Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Cressida Dick, interviewed on the Today Programme. Fairly poor. Did not seem to understand when the interviewer asked whether the “increase in cases” of “the virus” was by reason of those breaking the law, or simply because there were more people legally out and about (compared to early 2020). Cressida Dick simply ploughed on about illegality. Wooden. Woodentopped.
No sign of very high intelligence. Much “communitarian” noise.
The interviewer did not ask about whether the huge increase in testing has simply resulted in a corresponding increase in “cases” (many completely asymptomatic). Fascinating to see how much safer life is in England and Wales now compared to the 1840s, since which time there has been a fairly steady decline in the death rate. Even shocks such as the 1918-1920 influenza pandemic have not much impacted the overall picture.
At peak, in the 1840s and then again in the 1890s, about 4% of the population died in a year. Now, the figure is about 1% to 2%. Two to four times better.

I thought that at least the higher courts were better than they now have been proven to be. That leaves yet another part of UK society running on empty, together with journalism, the Bar, the NHS, the Westminster and local political system, the schools and universities and (a fortiori), the police.
I agree with the above, within reason. There must be limits to such loyalty, but the drift towards a sub-Stalinist society of snooping and denunciation must be resisted.

Exactly. I have been blogging and (before the “CAA”-connected Jews instigated my expulsion from Twitter) tweeting about how a fairly small number of online organizations, huge transnational enterprises, constitute quasi-monopolies and are shutting down freedom of expression.
Now everyone is noticing, but many fools who think that they are terribly clever are still bleating about how “private companies” (including in fact “public” ones) such as Amazon, ebay, Facebook, Twitter etc are simply commercial enterprises, and can exclude anyone at will for “violation” of Mickey Mouse “Terms and Conditions of Service” etc.
Some of the worst of such bleaters are those who think of themselves as “socialist” or pro-“human rights” and so on.

3 metres is 9.85 feet. In old money, ten feet. How does that work in, say, a supermarket, let alone the village shop or urban convenience store? It does not. It cannot.

As for his children crying, well that is unfortunate but unless he has a good medical reason to not wear a mask he willingly CHOSE to put his own children into a situation whereby they might have become upset like that. He obviously doesn’t care for them much then!
I am thinking of the countless children who have more reason to cry and for years maybe due to too many ignoring the restrictions they have suffered the loss of their much loved mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandmothers, grandfathers etc who died from Covid-19.
I back the police 100% in this matter. ALL they are trying to do with the limited amount of manpower they have at their disposal due to the so-called ‘party of law and order’ sacking thousands of them is to uphold some fairly mild laws involving public health restrictions.

These LAWS are not unjust so there is no good reason why they should not be obeyed unlike the laws we have restricting free speech.
Therefore, people SHOULD obey them and quit moaning at the police for trying to uphold them.
In this matter at least the police are in the right so people should obey the law and ‘back the blue’.
Why does Britain have such a problem with lawless scum not obeying public health laws unlike the peoples of Asian countries such as Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and other countries not in that part of the world? Discuss!
This crisis has revealed we have a real problem with lawlessness and a lack of self-discipline in our society that needs to be rectified with determination.

The main problem that the UK has is that its Government and other administration is incompetent. It is now estimated that as many as 50% of the people of the UK either have “the virus” (often without knowing it) or have had it. Herd immunity may be near. Facemasks etc are a waste of effort. Lockdowns likewise, unless you make everyone stay under house arrest indefinitely (leading to total societal and economic collapse).
BTW, I heard that my niece, an Australian aged 25 and living in London at present, has been tested and has “the virus”. No need for medical treatment. Has been told to stay at home, drink plenty of fluid, and take a paracetomol. Will probably be fine within days. Is that (on the large scale) a reason to shut down the economy and society for months, and make people wear silly masks, stop people visiting lakes and beaches etc? I say not.

Herd immunity is NOWHERE nowhere near being achieved in this country! It has not come about even in Sweden hence their rising death toll and case rate!
This herd immunity ‘strategy’ is discredited and palpable scientific nonsense as Sweden has demonstrated conclusively and that is why morons like Hitchens has, all of a sudden, stopped mentioning that failed country. I don’t blame him as even the Swedish King has recently broken his usual reticence to talk about political matters and severely criticised the idiots of the Swedish government for casing wholly unnecessary deaths.
Herd immunity is NOT a viable strategy and never will be for the simple reason sufficient herd immunity takes far too long to build up in a population.

The mandatory wearing of facial masks is a PROVEN way of reducing the community transmission of a highly infectious virus as countries like the exceptionally well run though authoritarian (big deal!🙄) Singapore demonstrate so well. Why is it that the excellent informative publication of the Straits Times had an article on this a few months ago which is still available on the web whilst Britain endured article after article decrying such proven measures in its irresponsible gormless, worthless rags like The Daily Tory Moron, The Scum, The Daily ‘we think the sun shines out of Nigel Farage’s arse’ Express etc?

Well, she is lucky then but too many others haven’t been and there is no surefire way of knowing, in advance, of how someone will react to the virus should they catch it even people as young as your niece.
People don’t NEED to visit ANY BEACHES or lakes during a worldwide viral pandemic!

As you say, some of the rules are ridiculous. Far from being too tough some of them are too lax and need to be toughened-up like that absurd ‘rule of six’ which should be a ‘rule of four’ or even lower as it has been in Germany ext.
