I have not had the vaccine(s), and have no intention of having any. Not necessarily because of any sinister aspects attaching to the vaccine(s); those claims may or may not be accurate. The fact is that the vaccines probably ward off the dreaded virus only somewhat anyway, as the virus mutates.
In any case, in the part of southern coastal England where I live, only 8 persons have died in the past month “within 28 days of a positive test”. Most of the 8, if not all, will have died from other causes (even car crashes!); it is very doubtful whether even 1 died “from” or even “with” Covid-19. That is in an area of 291 square miles, with a population of 180,000.
In other words, in the past month, in my part of England, 1 person has died “within 28 days of a positive test” (n.b. not “of” or even “with” Covid-19) out of every 22,500 inhabitants.
The whole “panicdemic” thing has become absolutely ridiculous in the UK, not least the facemask nonsense.
Meanwhile, people’s lives and health are trashed.

The slow collapse of Ulster Unionism. Ironic. The Official IRA, and then the Provos, tried to storm into the future with their Armalite and other weapons, only to be defeated, tactically, in the field, but all the time, the Irish Republican community’s women, pushing out more babies on average than those of their Loyalist counterparts, were shifting the boundaries strategically, as the general Republican community’s numbers increased vis a vis those of the Loyalist community. Looks as though the tipping point is near.
There we have it— the Westminster Bubble. John Rentoul just cannot see that the BBC has, in the colloquial, “blown it” with the bulk of the British public, just as has the Labour Party. The BBC was both generally trusted and generally at least not disliked, but that was 20-30 years ago, Mr. Rentoul…
Unusually, John Rentoul beat me in this week’s quiz, scoring 7/10; I scored only 6/10. I did not know the answers to questions 3, 4, 5, and 9.

Libertarianism is simply a more virulent form of classical liberalism. Its supporters belong in the Liberal Democrats NOT the Conservative Party which is supposed to advocate conservative values not liberal ones.
NO genuine Tory should ever be afraid of a bit of authoritarianism especially if it used to save people’s lives eg Tory governments in the 1950’s were not averse to the use of the hangman’s rope to save innocent lives by deterring potential murderers.🙄🙄🙄 The potential saving of innocent lives by what was thought to be a strong deterrent to murder was the prime reason Tory ministers gave in that era to retain the ‘ultimate penalty’.
There are so many politically ignorant and just plain daft women involved in British politics I’ve lost count and, sadly, many are within the ranks of the Conservative Party.

There is nothing inherently wrong with the idea of vaccine passports. Why should people who have co-operated fully with the authorities by following the restrictions faithfully and having the vaccine have to bear continuing restrictions when other very often completely selfish people haven’t been doing their bit and pulling together with others in society in order to overcome a NATIONAL health crisis?
Be selfish and un-cooperative and YOU should pay the price rather than decent and co-operative people!
There has to be an incentive created for the selfish, un-cooperative ones and a reward for the virtuous I’m afraid!🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

As for that Daily Mail report, the ex-spy says that his life might still be in danger. From whom? The actual bomber is in prison indefinitely, and there *is* no “neo-Nazi” paramilitary organization in the UK. At least, if there is, I am unaware of it. Despite regular newspaper reports, or nonsense from “antifascist” groups, there is in fact effectively no such activity (I do not count young men shooting their mouths off in pubs as “activity”).
As for infiltrators, spies etc, well… a John le Carre character says “Jesus Christ had [only] 12 agents and one of them was a double”…

What is so wrong with ‘fascism’ anyway, you daft cow? I remember going on holiday to the Italian Lake District in 2007 and being quite shocked to see numerous tea towels and other memorabilia that celebrated the rule of Benito Mussolini. Apparently, this isn’t that unusual in Italy where ‘Il Duce’ is remembered with quite a lot of affection. A surprisingly large number of Italians think Mussolini did a lot of good for Italy and that his only real mistake was to join in with Hitler in WW2.
Well, he did get Italian trains to run on time for the first time ever😂😂😂😂 and made quite a few social improvements!
This Tory woman should know but probably doesn’t that even Winston Churchill said once that if our country was in as bad a way as Germany was before Hitler’s rise to power he would want to see someone similar to rule us and put us back on course as a nation.
I thought Winston was a Tory hero even though at the time most of his party hated his guts and far preferred Neville Chamberlain and the Foreign Secretary, Lord Halifax 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Yes, I was. Lake Garda is a lovely area. I got a few smiles and a couple of compliments on my attempts to speak Italian from the staff at the hotel I was staying at. 😂😎My French and German language abilities are far better. Italian is not an easy language for a Briton to speak, It must be one of Western Europe’s most difficult to learn but then there are British languages like Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and then there is Dutch!😀

Strange, m’Lord of Essex. I have always heard that Italian is one of the easier European languages (I admit that I have never tried).
I once met someone (director of a language laboratory near Elephant and Castle) who could speak *8* languages fluently! What is more, they included Finnish and Hungarian (both of course Finno-Ungric), which are said, with Basque, to be the most difficult.

It is funny that the abiding Tory love for libertarianism never extends to one of the very few areas of governance where it has any moral value or where it can be put to genuine good use ie freedom of speech/freedom of thought especially on, ahem , ‘controversial’ issues!

I am not sure whether you are correct to say that the ‘tipping point’ is near due to a higher Catholic birth rate. I have seen evidence to suggest that the Roman Catholics had reduced their birth rate and that it is more like that of the Unionist community.
At any rate, not all Catholics would, when push comes to shove, would vote for a ‘United Ireland’ since one thing they do like about the UK is that our NHS is free whereas in the Republic you have to pay to see a doctor.
Emotionally, many would prefer to live in a united Republic but when using their heads they would have second thoughts.
The Republic would find it difficult to finance ‘Irish Unity’ and must know that having over one million Protestants within their state would change its essential character fundamentally and those new residents would be resentful so this idea of unity is pretty fanciful and still quite a distant prospect.

As that poll indicates the Unionist vote is more fractured than the nationalist vote is. The Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) party is the most hardline and may overtake the DUP soon.
I think the Unionists/Loyalists would have greater support on the mainland if they didn’t support Israel quite as fervently as they do. I understand why they do it ie to annoy Republicans who tend to support the Palestinians but it isn’t a particularly good look if they want sympathy in the wider UK.
They should know that Israel pretty much distrusts/dislikes most gentile nations around the world with the only real exception being the USA and that Israel was built upon anti-British terrorism just like the Republic was.

The Unionists/Loyalists are politically-speaking quite naive in that they believe it is viable to be a Unionist/Loyalist and still have entirely separate unionist parties from the mainland. Their cause would have done better if the UUP had never separated from the Conservative Party etc. I can’t see the intellectual credibility in having unionist parties that only stand in ONE part of the UK instead of ALL parts of it. The SNP being separatists only stand in Scotland but unionist parties should stand, as a point of political principle, throughout the UK.
There was some talk of the DUP a few years ago standing candidates in Liverpool but nothing became of it.

The Conservative Party, much to its credit, stands candidates in NI though they get few votes. The Labour Party, despite supposedly being a British unionist party, doesn’t. This is deplorable and should be rectified not least because when Labour does form a government in Westminster NI’s people are being governed by it on important political issues such as defence/foreign affairs so where is the political accountability for NI’s voters?
