Regarding the horrendous bombardment of Dresden, the original report of the city’s police chief (made 48 hours after the attack) mentions around 104.000 bodies recovered and buried. The figure of 35.000 dead is, to put it politely, pure rubbish.
PS: Thousands of bodies were totally destroyed by the fire and hundreds of bodies were recovered many days later under the rubble. It is very possible that the actual number of dead reached the 120.000.
BTW, the horrendous bombing of Tokyo in May 1945 (when Japon was already defeated), of which nobody talks, murdered nearly 120.000 people. Lest we forget!

Claudius, that figure of 35,000 dead was the result a team of independent experts took a few years to try and estimate and it was appointed by the German government.
I’m not saying German governments are particularly patriotic but their governments are usually not so treasonous as ours are and were not before Merkel arrived.
We will probably never know the real figure. It is something that is difficult to estimate very accurately.

What a truely vile specimen, Grant Shapps is not that he doesn’t have plenty of competition in that regard from his colleagues in the fake Conservative Party.
Dresden was undeniably a very tragic event but I wouldn’t call it a war crime in that it was a legitimate military target in being a transportation hub for the Wehrmacht, a centre for optical gunsight production (the prestigious firm Zeiss had a base there) etc of a major world military power.
Also, one needs to remember that military technology then was very crude and basic unlike today.
Grant Schapps comparing what the RAF and US Air Force done to Dresden in 1945 with unsophisticated aircraft and not too well trained aircrews to the excellently trained aircrews of one of the world’s most technologically advanced military airforces when the target, unlike Dresden, is not an important transport hub/military production centre of a world power is a grotesque insult to the RAF and the US Air Force.
Frankly, with his suspect character I would expect nothing better.

Grant Shapps as you say was a member of a sinister and fanatical Jew-Zionist Pro Israel group in his youth so it should come as no surprise he backs that state 100% regardless of its increasingly inhumane and uncivilised actions.
Having him as a government minister would be deplorable at any time but is particularly so since he has been given the post of Defence Secretary and uses it to gratutiously insult the fine men and women of our RAF.
Just another of Sunak’s sleights to this country and please do not get me started on his latest shuffling of duds!.
