The real “net” figure is even higher at present, closer to 600,000. Another point is that those leaving are often white British people, meaning that the “net” figures often cited disguise the true level of demographic change. Neither do such figures make any reference to the numbers of non-whites born in the UK every year. White British people are declining in numbers constantly, not only in percentage terms but also in terms of absolute numbers.

The apparent popularity (with many) of Eddie Izzard has always puzzled me. I see nothing interesting in what he has to say, nothing worthwhile in his political positions (such as they are) and, from what I have seen of him on TV and in newspapers, the supposed “comedian” does not seem to be —in the slightest— funny.

Historical note
I was just reading something about the 18thC German mystic and writer, Novalis [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novalis], better known in Central Europe than in the UK.
I saw this on Wikipedia:
“While at Jena, he published his first poem and befriended the playwright and fellow poet Friedrich Schiller. In Leipzig, he then met Friedrich Schlegel, becoming lifetime friends. Novalis completed his law degree in 1794 at the age of 22. He then worked as a legal assistant in Tennstedt immediately after graduating. There, he met Sophie von Kühn. The following year Novalis and Sophie became secretly engaged. Sophie became severely ill soon after the engagement and died just after her 15th birthday. Sophie’s early death had a life-long impact on Novalis and his writing.”

The two met on 17 November 1794 when Novalis was twenty-two and Sophie was only twelve. They became engaged on Sophie’s thirteenth birthday 17 March 1795. I suppose that the average person today in the UK would be appalled at her young age when engaged, but the Wikipedia piece makes it fairly obvious that the relationship was kept on an idealized or romantic-spiritual level.

Paris was still a pretty decent, if rather quirky and odd city in 1971, when I spent three weeks there with a French couple (in the 5th Arrondisement; on the Left Bank). When I saw it again, in 1978, it was still OK. I did not see Paris again until 1990. Already its character had changed in many ways, mostly negatively. I was not there again, in the city itself, until about 2008. The rot had really set in…
They should be dealt with, if not by the State then by the people directly.
