Diary Blog, 7 August 2022, with thoughts about drought and water supply

Drought, and water supply

Where is the strategic direction from government? It is hard to think of a more basic function of government in the modern era than the supply of plentiful and clean water. Of all necessities, water supply is the most basic.

Measures that should be taken in the UK (southern England, really) include water-retention projects in upland areas, new dams and reservoirs, and construction of desalination plants for emergency use (Israel has some of the best technology for that; worth looking at).

Other measures would include those to minimize leaks. London may be losing a quarter of the water available and piped by reason of leaks.

Also, the UK population has increased by many millions in the past half-century. Stop importing unwanted people.

Cape Town nearly ran out of water 2015-2018, partly by reason of low rainfall, but also because (quelle surprise) African government has proven incapable of planning ahead: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Town_water_crisis.

Cape Town was saved partly by severe restrictions on use, but mainly because the rains started to arrive again from 2018. Los Angeles was in difficulties too over the past decade, but again was saved mainly by renewed rainfall.

In principle, I think that water, at least for domestic users, should be free or very inexpensive, but the reality is that there is a cost attached to the storage and supply of water (and also to the disposal of waste water). There is a debate to be had as to how to manage those costs.

In Ireland, until fairly recently, water was supplied free of charge to domestic users, and the cost covered out of taxation, mainly rates (taxation) on domestic and commercial property: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_supply_and_sanitation_in_the_Republic_of_Ireland#Tariffs.

Factors: abundant surface water, and a relatively small population, which until recent decades was mostly poor. Incidentally, it was not so long ago that most of the Irish population did not pay income tax.

I oppose meters for water, and I oppose the profiteering by the present privatized water companies in the UK. There should be a national water authority and, if water is to be charged for at all, a set amount —the same amount— paid for water (either per person or per household) over a determined period.

Water pressure can be reduced to save water in times of drought, though that is easier in some countries than in others. I recall a friend in New Jersey telling me in about 1991 that he had seen a special episode of This Old House [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Old_House] from London, which included the information that water pressure was 18 pounds per square inch.

My friend said that “to us, that’s a trickle!“. I think that water pressure in the NY/NJ region is nearer to 80 pounds per square inch, so 4x higher than in London, thinking back to that conversation.

Incidentally, water pressure in the UK is now expressed in “bars”, a metric measurement: see https://www.plumbnation.co.uk/blog/the-complete-guide-to-water-pressure/.

Large-scale users of water are commercial enterprises, including farms. These may have to be squeezed further on cost.

Mostly right, though not mentioning the huge —and possibly irreparable— damage done to the UK economy by the ridiculous “panicdemic” measures of 2020-2022, particularly the “lockdown” shutdown(s).

How low has the UK sunk, that it could even contemplate having a Indian as its Prime Minister?

This is the sort of thing, or one type of thing, that happens when you mix up capitalist enterprise (economic zone or sphere) with the zone or sphere of social rights, politics etc. In the Threefold Social Order proposed by Rudolf Steiner, those zones or spheres (and the spiritual/cultural/etc zone or sphere) should not be confused. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_threefolding.

Bulb Energy was originally a mixture of economic enterprise and social do-gooding to do with “reducing emissions” and similar nonsense.

Other examples of “social entrepreneurship” have abounded in the Britain of the past 20 years. A swamp of fraud, chicanery and chaotic mismanagement. One of the worst types of the phenomenon has been the “social entrepreneur” company that presents itself as quasi-charitable but makes millions for its major shareholders out of public funds.

The maladministration and incompetence of Iain Dunce Duncan Smith at the DWP from 2010-2015 allowed dozens if not hundreds of such organizations to flourish. There were and maybe still are many examples, funded by not only the DWP but also other parts of government. I am not even sure that “Kids’ Company” was the worst: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kids_Company.

[Camila Batmanghelidjh, founder and Chief Executive of Kids’ Company]

Another one, the name of which escapes me for the moment, made millions for its controllers out of DWP funds; one of those ridiculous outsourcing companies finding “make-work” non-jobs for the unemployed and disabled.

The fat young woman who owned it with her husband (fortunately for them, their names also escape me right now) was on BBC Daily Politics and other TV shows between 2010-2015, talking about how good it all was. Only Andrew Neil was sharp enough to (obliquely) question the amount said woman was making (out of the taxpayers). She and her husband bought a large country house in Derbyshire before that particular house of cards collapsed. They made millions upon millions, were never prosecuted for what I consider an outright fraud, not to mention exploitation of desperate people, and still live in luxury today, I believe.

There will soon be no need for the Chinese to invade Eastern Siberia (former Soviet Far East), sovereignty over which China has long disputed with Russia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Nerchinsk.

The Chinese are already infiltrating by mercantile activity, farming etc. Soon Chinese will replace Russians unless Moscow starts to actually do something to stop that. Siberia generally is almost empty, and that is particularly so the further east and north we look. An open door.

[“Russia has no borders; it is wherever there are Russians”]

Must try that at some future time, maybe c.2040, with the British police: “I’ll have almost-burnt rye toast, butter, red caviar, with dill and sliced non-vinegar pickled cucumber on the side, and some iced Moskovskaya vodka, served in very small glasses, please“. Well, might be worth a try…

The madness continues… https://ianrobertmillard.org/2018/11/15/when-reality-becomes-subjective/.

It would be a mistake to imagine that the above and other madness (inc. “Black Lives Matter” nonsense, “Black History Month” the Greta Nut and other climate-related nonsense, the general repression of free speech, the “everyone can go to a ‘university’ and get a firstclass degree” etc) is happening by some kind of accident or co-incidence. No. There are secret groups pushing it all. They riddle our society like termites, and will only be removed by the methods appropriate to such infestation.

For the “refugees welcome” cretins, the answer is simple— “build more houses!” (so that endless more waves of invaders can be accommodated, so that England loses yet more open country and decent suburbia, and so that the UK becomes non-white quicker). Needless to say, most of these “refugees” will be entirely useless parasites, and their offspring as bad or worse.

All designed to “prove” a lie, i.e. that the UK, or at least London, was “multicultural” since the Middle Ages. It’s rubbish.

More from the new Australian multikulti, (((infested))), biosecurity police state. Victoria seems to be the harshest, but NSW is not far behind.

I dissent, not that it now matters directly, from the crazy policies of Churchill, but the man was still a titan overall, when compared to “Boris”, the part-Jew, part-Levantine chancer who now tries, pathetically, to imitate him. Marx was right: history is tragedy the first time, before being repeated as farce.

The whole Western world needs a thoroughgoing cultural purge. The infestation is rooted in one particular group, and it is not that of the blacks, as such…

Impressive.

An idea for the Westminster monkeyhouse? Would look funny at PMQs…

Right-wing anti-Palestinian protesters“? Seems that Skwawkbox is casting around, trying to find the right words…how about “fanatical Zionist Jews“?

The “open letter” tweet relates to an Irish writer of whom I had not heard previously. I suppose that she could have permitted the translation (into Hebrew), but given all her royalties to poor Palestinians in Gaza; though that would have broken the BDS code in principle, it would also have helped individuals, as well as providing amusement (Zionists paying money out to Gazans). One can get into arguments akin to the mediaeval “how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?“.

For myself I can only say, in the words of the “Mad Mahdi”, that “ten thousand angels shall precede me into battle“:

Bob Moran

The cartoonist, Bob Moran, who has been one of few prominent voices of sanity in the past 20 for so months, has now been sacked by the Daily Telegraph (which always pretends to stand for free speech) at the behest of a mob of Twitter-twits.

I hope that some other journal will publish his cartoons, but in this age of “me too” political neo-orthodoxy, I am not hopeful. Even Private Eye is now one more msm mouthpiece for “me too” wokeness (in fact, and in my view, it always was, but it had the grace to conceal that in the 1970s and 1980s).

Bob Moran has tweeted the following, no doubt after some threat of legal or other action:

The public is slowly waking up to the fact that “the virus” has been weaponized by the System in the UK not only as an excuse for the arrogation of quasi-dictatorial laws and power, but also as an excuse for why the NHS is now ebbing away to being a kind of skeleton service. “Sorry, we cannot [fill in action not done] because of Covid”…

Diary Blog, 25 August 2021, with more about Extinction Rebellion

Extinction Rebellion

Happened to see a tweet about the most recent Extinction Rebellion demonstrations (or should that be “tantrums”?):

I would not in general be much on the same page as Frank Furedi, or indeed radio loudmouth Julia Hartley-Brewer, whom I had to set straight once or twice when I had a Twitter account (a few malicious Jews managed to have me expelled in 2018), but “there is no religion higher than truth”, as they say…

I have blogged a few times about Extinction Rebellion in the past: https://ianrobertmillard.org/2019/08/16/the-extinction-rebellion-levellers/; and https://ianrobertmillard.org/2019/10/09/extinction-rebellion-greta-thunberg-cressida-dick-and-the-madness-of-protesting-crowds/; and https://ianrobertmillard.org/2020/09/08/diary-blog-8-september-2020-including-further-assessment-of-extinction-rebellion-as-well-as-of-tim-crosland-and-plan-b-etc/.

I have in the past also blogged about the connected lunacy of the “Greta Nut” hullabaloo: see https://ianrobertmillard.org/2019/09/29/greta-thunberg-system-approved-wunderkind/.

Meanwhile…

Socio-political hypocrisy: there’s a lot of it about. Not that the phenomenon is new. For decades, there have been the pro-immigration and “refugees welcome” idiots and virtue-signallers; more often than not they live in leafy suburban areas where the effects of the UK migration-invasion have been muted, at least on the surface.

I myself recall a girlfriend of the 1980s who once said to me (we were certainly not ideologically completely compatible!) that the British people who did not want mass immigration were mostly those who did not like to see council houses going to immigrants instead of to them! A neat British way of bringing social snobbery into the discussion (something that we saw also in recent years in relation to Brexit: the Remainer mythus that pro-Brexit people were little more than British hillbillies).

Easy for a woman whose father, upon her return from living in a foreign capital, simply bought her a London house outright as a present, who got paid far more for occasional or part-time work than most people did for working full-time, and who also had considerable inheritance expectations, to express scarcely-veiled contempt for the poorer section of the British population.

She simply did not see that many poorer British people were and are angered by the way alien imports take British social housing. Not everyone can be housed just by asking their father to buy them a house!

Just yesterday it came to light that central government is helping local councils buy “large houses” so that Afghan families with 10 or 12 members can live in them. Most of those large houses will be in the more expensive neighbourhoods as well, so British people are going to be doubly cheated.

The British people will also end up working, and being taxed, so that the Afghans (and the rest) can live parasitically upon the Brits. The Afghans will mostly not even speak English, will mostly have no skills or qualifications, but will have (according to studies) a far lower average I.Q. than the British, and so will be just a drag or a millstone round the necks of the people of this country.

How to characterize the Extinction Rebellion nonsense and demonstrations? “Woodstock with worry”?

The resistance movemet against the “panicdemic” is mutating into a resistance against other moves made by the international conspiracy.

In the recent Alison Chabloz appeal, the Crown Prosecution Service applied for an absurdly badly-drafted (well, is it a surprise? “Pay peanuts, get monkeys”) Criminal Behaviour Order against Alison. The judge apparently treated that with the contempt it deserved, and refused to make such an order. No doubt the application was suggested in some way by the malicious Jew-Zionists who are behind the whole persecution (and prosecutions) of Alison Chabloz.
