Well, this week I again beat John Rentoul. He scored 6/10, I scored 7/10. The questions to which I did not know the answers were questions 1, 8, and 10.

True…(though Cummings was right about the stable of incompetents now posing as a government)…https://ianrobertmillard.org/2019/08/10/les-eminences-grises-of-dystopia/; https://ianrobertmillard.org/2020/01/03/dominic-cummings-a-government-of-dystopia-and-lunacy-posing-as-genius/.
As to Vietnam, the war could only have been won by the South (with American help) had there been a massive ground invasion of the North, with the attendant risk of superpower non-proxy conflict. There were Soviet fighter pilots actually on service in North Vietnam (I met one myself in 1996).
Whether that sort of ground invasion of North Vietnam would have succeeded long-term is of course doubtful (cf. Afghanistan and Iraq in the post-1989 era). In the end, war is a method of achieving political goals (in most cases). Peace is usually achieved via political consensus or victory.

This is pretty bad news for Labour, though unsurprising if you think, like me, that Labour now has no reason to exist except as a rather niche party, one for blacks, browns, and some of those who work in the public sector.
I am not yet ready to blog about Batley and Spen, the by-election for which is set down for 1 July 2021. If Labour loses, at it did at Hartlepool recently, Starmer is probably a “dead man walking”, politically.
At the moment, I incline to the view that Batley will be an uphill struggle for Labour, bearing in mind that George Galloway (under aegis of “Workers’ Party”), and the Yorkshire Party, are both standing. Galloway is rather a busted flush, but still has his supporters. The Yorkshire Party seems to have support as well. Those two together will probably get about 5%, which might make the difference between Labour holding on or not.
The Labour vote there has been declining since the rigged by-election of 2016 (in which Labour was not opposed by the other System parties).
The “right royal” circus
I find this all hilarious. Harry is now effectively a critic of the whole “right royal” circus, yet he himself is of course a major recipient and beneficiary of it. After all, take away the “royal prince” thing, and what is Harry? A youngish man (37 this September) who only became an Army officer because he was “helped”: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Harry,_Duke_of_Sussex#Education, and who would have had no chance of high rank based on merit (he held the rank of Captain at the end of his active service).
Indeed, without his birth privilege, Harry would probably have drifted into some line such as car salesman, Hooray Henry estate agency, or similar.
I doubt that Netflix etc would take any interest in him at all were he not supposedly “royal”…
Actually, thinking about Harry’s “help” in passing exams at Eton (he ended up with two “A” levels, a “B” in Art, and a “D” in Geography), I am reminded of a story I heard a long time ago (about 1981) about a similar “royal” educational straggler.
The young lady in question was a relative of the Queen who struggled academically. She needed intensive personal tuition in languages in order to gain entrance to an Oxford college. This was in the late 1970s, as I understand it. The college in question had bent over backwards to accommodate the Palace, but insisted on the young lady having the special private tuition if they were going to offer her a place.
In the end, she was accepted by that Oxford college, after having been worked on for weeks, perhaps months, by an elderly White Russian resident in London. All under cloak of secrecy, but of course there are no secrets, as such, just levels of secrecy.

“President Macron has just welcomed to the Elysée two YouTubers called Carlito and McFly, both of whom dressed down for the occasion with one appearing to have a tea cosy on his head. The pair are all the rage among that section of society who get their kicks on YouTube, although despite their adolescent antics Carlito and McFly are actually a couple of middle-class men in their mid-thirties.
What followed was excruciating, what one conservative commentator described as ’36 minutes of soft barbarism… [which] erodes the verticality of power and deconstructs the state’. All of which begs the question: what was Macron thinking in inviting Carlito and McFly into his palace?
To win the youth vote, perhaps? A poll last month suggested that the 25 to 34-year-old demographic is more inclined to vote for Marine Le Pen in next year’s presidential election than for Macron. But they would not have been won over by what they saw, a president ill-at-ease in his suit and tie, a fixed grin on his face as he exchanged wooden banter with two lowbrow clowns.
There is a feeling among the French I speak to that the country is nearing a tipping point and that voters, alone in the booth, might decide that with no dignified politicians left, they might as well give Le Pen a go.” [The Spectator]
My take from early 2019, examining Macron’s background in more detail than I have seen in most places: https://ianrobertmillard.org/2019/01/09/on-recent-events-in-france/

As in the example of Alison Chabloz. People should stop and think what kind of tyranny imprisons people for singing satirical songs, or for posting a few cartoons about Jews or others.
The System and its msm handmaidens may not have thought through what might happen down the line if the British people are denied any peaceful political expression. Even the Soviet tyranny was toppled in the end, even the Albanian tyranny was toppled in the end, even the Romanian tyranny was toppled in the end. Our Ceaucescus may look different, but they too exist.

Demographic disaster
Europe! Reflect on the disaster that is unfolding in front of your very eyes! Even those 2019 figures are well out of date; and those statistics do not include births to non-European mothers themselves born in Europe (esp. applies to UK).
Look at Switzerland! Austria! Germany! Sweden! This is a combination of madness, an ethno-cultural death wish (fostered by the “occupied” msm), and a transnational conspiracy.

I myself never use the outdated “Left”/”Right” terminology unless qualified or in jest, but Hitchens’ basic view is correct. The only thing he has left out is the ubiquitous and malign Jewish influence on our society and its culture.

Very welllsaid, Paul O Connor. Yes, Mr Hitchens is a very dangerous individual who should be locked-up for having spread continual dangerous blatantly unscientific rubbish about COVID-19 thus encouraging lawless yobs to contemptuously ignore and defy the restrictions and to therefore effectively murder vulnerable people.🤬😡☹️😞
This evil government arrests by means of its politicised Stazi henchmen and women (formerly decent police officers) people who make mild criticisms of their genocidal and fundamentally anti-British mass immigration policies yet wretches like Peter DO REAL HARM and won’t get the Gestapo treatment.
This country is SO SICK it isn’t even funny any longer!🙄😡😞😞🤬

It is time to get TOUGH at last with these exasperating, innately selfish yobs who are putting police officers in harm’s way and that of ordinary members of the public and teach them a lesson they will never forget.

Yes, the libertarian extremist (Thatcherite) Nigel Farage and his UKIP party did not REALLY believe in tough immigration and border controls since to enact such policies requires a government/party to believe in the inherent rightness of using the state as an instrument of government policy and power and to use maybe a high level of taxes (the are also against taxes in the main) to adequately fund the Border Agency and to employ enough immigration officers to staff it.
Libertarians believe in a ‘small state’ as an ideological fetish and the foundation of their entire political philosophy hence to use the state to control borders is a big no no and that is why Priti Evil and this despicable government preferred to not institute strict border controls during this pandemic from the very start of it with the inevitable result of thousands of vulnerable Brits going to an early grave.
PURE FUCKING EVIL doesn’t even begin to cover it and Priti Evil, Boris etc need to suffer a classic long drop British hanging as a punishment for this disgraceful CRIME.🤬😡
Priti, Boris etc need to dance the ’Tyburn Jig’ on the end of a British rope!

This weird libertarian fetish and ideological obsession with a ‘small state’ the fake CONServative Party has is also the reason the Tories have brutally sacked police officers by their thousands, closed police stations (including our rather fine dedicated 1930’s built one in Brentwood, Essex) in the last ten years of their misrule. They have added swinging cuts to our armed forces too on top of all of this.
After all, why should taxes be paid to maintain police officers in their jobs? REAL police officers ie not the PSCO ones get a fairly good wage nowadays and that all adds up to a big wage bill for the state and higher taxes for everyone but also for the wealthy that libertarians think should pay far less tax in particular.
The police as well are obviously one of the main arms of the state which in the libertarian CON Party viewpoint is an evil enemy to be radically reduced in size.🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
So, get rid of police officers! Who bloody well needs them?🙄🙄🙄🙄

I don’t know why they are even protesting yet for. Yes, the pandemic has been going on for what seems to be an eternity now but these normally once in a century historical events can last for up to TWO YEARS OR SO as the last one did from 1918-1920 so, I would suggest, it is only after that sort of time period has elapsed should people start to worry/complain whether the restrictions will be lifted.
Let us have some patience, some self-discipline and fortitude and we will come through it TOGETHER! After all, our grandparents etc had to live through FIVE YEARS of a war with bombs falling, V2 rockets, having to make sure their windows were blacked-out at night, restrictions on what food they could eat etc!

Alternatively, m’Lord of Essex, you might note that even during the months of the London Blitz, people carried on working, drinking, dancing etc. Normal life carried on. Now? We have a virus that is actually *not* very infectious and that has killed perhaps one in a thousand of the population (supposedly; in fact far fewer) and people are running around like scared and muzzled rabbits.
LikeLike
I’m afraid it IS very infectious and easily transmissible by community spread hence the mandatory use of facial masks in enclosed spaces like shops:
On every individual country page on Wikipedia about the Covid-19 pandemic it says so eg:

That was a wartime situation but it WAS NOT a worldwide viral pandemic hence no facial mask use etc but it was still a scary situation.
My dearly departed grandmother used to tell me how frightening the V2 rockets were when they flew overhead and then their engines cut out and people didn’t have any idea of where they would crash land and perhaps knock a house down and kill people.
Still, my Nan and many others (my grandfather was one of those people who would walk the streets at night telling people to keep their curtains closed ext) faced the situation with considerable patience and stoicism.
It is a shame that this pandemic didn’t happen in 1939/1940 as then perhaps even Adolf and Churchill would have called their silly war off!
LikeLike
M’Lord of Essex, you are referring to the V-1 rocket(s), not the V-2. The V-1 “doodlebug”, “buzz-bomb” or “flying bomb” was targeted in advance to cut out at a certain time (by cutting off fuel via a timing mechanism); the V-2 could not be heard approaching because too high and fast (it was the first real military rocket of the type we know today).

I didn’t watch the PM’s broadcast to the nation at the start of the pandemic so I am not aware if he did warn the country this situation could take a while to resolve but if he didn’t do so then he really should have done as then we may not have had some of these demonstrations. He should have used that previous pandemic of the ‘Spanish Flu’ in 1918-1920 to illustrate the point.

Indeed, Alpha Go II. Too many people who think of themselves as being on the ‘Right’ of politics are brainwashed by the likes of ‘The Scum’ newspaper into believing that only Islamist Asians are a problem in Britain and that Pro-Israel Jewish Zionist extremists/Jewish Supremacists are not.
Whilst Jews are mostly law abiding people and therefore don’t cause a problem for Gentiles in the same way as black muggers etc do that doesn’t mean that some elements of organised Jewry don’t use their power and influence to cause us problems in other more subtle ways like campaigning for anti free speech laws etc, trying to bend our foreign policy into a more pro-Israeli direction ext.
Sometimes, there are rational reasons for British gentiles and those of other gentile nations to be suspicious/wary of Jews and this doesn’t necessarily mean they are guilty of the most crude forms of what is referred to by the press as ‘anti-semitism’ which has a seemingly very wide and thus nonsensical definition.

They can take this SICK ideology back to the USA where it firmly belongs. It is quintessentially NOT British and not in any way in accordance with our national values so all those who want it here can bugger off and live in Yankee land where they belong and where they can cause American deaths (not that I wish that upon the US either since their adherence to this ideology has caused that country to have a similar death rate to the ‘pandemic of 1918-1920).

Ian, I have this information about Alison Chabloz’s case on impeccable authority:
‘The prosecution have asked for the appeal to be taken out of the list as their counsel’s previous trial has overrun. Alison, who is now out on licence, agrees to the proposed adjournment, as she wishes to visit her mother, who is ill, and consider her strategy generally, as well as recovering from prison.
It is therefore likely that the appeal will be adjourned, but watch this space.’
Please will you evaluate the purport of this mess? I hope the appeal hearing will at least be adjourned, but preferably, cancelled. What is the likelihood of either? Or is there some other likelihood? (Hang it! The appeal is/was listed for 3-4 June: in two days’ time!)
LikeLike
Sophie:
Thank you. I was unaware of the facts you mention.
I do not think that I am in a position to say much, and even less so in a public forum.
If the Prosecution have requested an adjournment, and Alison (appellant) and/or her Counsel have raised no objection, then it would be very surprising if the application to adjourn were to be refused.
The appeal hearing cannot be “cancelled” (and the appeal thereby abandoned) unless either the Crown decide not to contest the appeal (extremely unlikely), or unless Alison herself decides to abandon it.
I should imagine that the 3-4 June date(s) will now be vacated, and the matter taken out of the list. If the appeal continues at a later date, I would assume that that would not be for some weeks if not months, because of the pressure on Court time at present, and also because Alison is not now incarcerated.
I have no special or detailed information about the present backlog of cases etc, but it might well be that the matter will not now be heard until September (at an educated guess).

Thank you very much, Ian. You have clarified a great deal.
Alison is now recovering, having first experienced something that sounded like a euphoric state, tucking into the chocolates we had sent her in the very early stage of her imprisonment. She did not get them then, but, it seems, they were given to her on her release. And she was wildly delighted by the look of her garden after two months.
But on the following day, she was very quiet and low spirited, and not up to the celebratory lunch we had arranged. It is heart-breaking to hear her in this state, for depression is way out of character for her. That she was put through this prison ordeal is utterly disgraceful. The two DJs who brought it upon her deserve a flogging. And the CAA psychos have just earned a walloping great load of antisemitic anger.
Thank you for your kind and hyper-capable attention to her case while she was in prison. We knew, thanks to you, what was going on around her. That helped quell our anxiety, and to dispel our worst fears. You are very kind, and indeed, nothing short of a wonderful man.
