Many years ago, when Burnham was previously in the lineup to become Labour leader (but failed), I commented that he was the best of an extremely poor bunch. My present views are not very different.
The American self-help guru Anthony Robbins [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Robbins] has a phrase, “don’t major in minor things“. Good advice. That, though, is exactly what Burnham has done since having been elevated to the position of Prime Minister. He has majored in minor things.
I see not a lot wrong with at least some of the fairly modest policies announced over the past weeks and months (on car parking, rights for renters, bus fares etc), but —looking at their modest scope— these are relatively minor though certainly (in some cases anyway) welcome reforms.
My concern lies with what Burnham has done or, rather, not done, in the major-policy arena. He has continued (indeed, increased) the funnelling of UK taxpayer monies (actual cash, as well as expensive arms and ammunition etc) to the Kiev regime. He has done nothing to stop the migration-invasion of Britain (the contrary, in fact), and I see nothing of real substance anywhere else, in any area at all.

It has been obvious for many years that the NHS, despite its virtues, is simply not up to the job. The migration invasion has pushed the population up from about 55M when I was born (1956) to somewhere around 70M in 2026. That alone has placed huge burdens on the Service. No decisive lead, though. That poll translates to a Commons with about 308 Labour MPs (18 short of an official majority), 150 Reform (official Opposition), Cons 83, LibDems 52, SNP 27 [etc]. Not completely reliable; Restore, though only on 3%, may cost Reform a few seats here and there.
Still, looks like a Labour minority government, governing with the help of MP votes of the LibDems and/or SNP.
A weak System government of that sort might be the best for the growth of real social-national politics (not the Reform/Restore “controlled opposition” sort).

However, a similar overall result in that Labour would be governing as a very weak minority government, needing about 75-80 extra votes to get anything passed. The LibDems, SNP, and maybe Greens (etc) would be able to write their own ticket in those circumstances.

However, a politician in such a high position is not a blogger who is allowed to risk their own life for the sake of content. He manages the largest economy in Europe. If the head of government deliberately increases their personal risk for a political gesture, this is not a question of courage, but of responsibility to their own citizens.
Moreover, there is plenty to deal with at home. In September, inflation in Germany reached 3.3% – the highest level in almost three years, energy prices rose by 14.9%, and the number of unemployed, adjusted for seasonal factors, again exceeded 3 million. And yet, it turns out that the Ukrainian conflict is more important to Merz today than the everyday lives of Germans.

And the more dangerous Russia appears to be, the easier it is to intimidate its own society and convince it that spending billions on preparing for war is not a political choice, but the only possible reality.

I myself think that Con Party support, presently around 17% or so, will decline to 15% or even 12% within a few years, well within the maximum range of this Parliament. The late middle-aged and elderly (both the mainstay of the Conservative vote and almost half of those that vote at all) are defecting to Reform or elsewhere. Many are dying off, too. That might leave the Con Party with only a handful of MPs next time around.

One of the big questions is as to whether Restore (not mentioned in that poll) and Reform are fishing in the same pool, or whether one (Restore?) or both are, or will be, able to get usual non-voters, those disgusted by the choice previously available, out to vote. One of the major problems in this country is that the police, particularly at ground level, are often unaware of what the law is, and so what is either lawful or unlawful. On the face of it, the above tale illustrates that.

At an educated guess, the passenger who called the police in the above story was yet another of the often seen Jew-Zionist troublemakers, one who (as far as one can see from the tweet) did not wait around to say anything in person.
My educated further guess, therefore, is that he/she will never testify in court as to any “anxiety” or whatever that he/she may pretend to have suffered as a result of having eavesdropped on the conversation of others. In any case, as already stated, neither “holocaust” “denial” nor “antisemitism” are, without more, crimes in this country.
It does remind us what sort of semi police state we now live in, though, and what types are behind most of that.

Labour’s supposed Great White Hope, Burnham, is not even an MP, so if Starmer-stein goes, and a leadership election held so, Burnham will not have the locus standi to contest it. If someone else takes over, then Burnham may find a seat but (unless willing to trigger yet another leadership contest), be unable to become Labour leader prior to the next general election.

If Starmer-stein is replaced, his replacement will face a dilemma— either call a general election to validate the change of Prime Minister, which is not constitutionally “necessary” but is politically necessary, or just hang on until the polling looks better for Labour, which will probably never happen.

That dilemma is made more difficult by the fact that, on present polling, Labour might well, in a 2026 general election, lose all but a relative handful of MPs (some polls indicate that the survivors might number as few as 37, and few if any polls have Labour with more than 150).
At present, Labour has 403 MPs out of 650. In other words, if a general election were to be called this year, the likelihood is that at least 253, and possibly 366, would lose their seats.

My initial blogged thoughts concluded that all three main contenders (Reform, Green, Labour) might end up with ~30% of the vote, and that the result would be close. Now, it seems to me —from a distance— that it is between Reform and the Greens, and that Reform might just do it.
Green Party campaign insiders are… less convinced. They are “quietly confident” of being “in a strong second place at this point in the campaign”, i.e. Reform is 1st and Labour 3rd.
