Regarding the Constance Marten woman, a few thoughts:

The decadence of the old British ruling class began in the 19th century when many of its members married the daughters of famous Jewish bankers like Rothschild and Sassoon. Not only that, but driven by their hateful snobbery and arrogance, they looked down on the British people, particularly the working class, to whom they owed their wealth.

It is a real shame what has happened to the Foreign Office with its lowering standards. At one time, even in the not distant past ie the 1980’s, it was a very prestigious government department. In the 1930’s you had people of the calibre of Lord Halifax, in the 1940’s Anthony Eden, in the 1970’s David Owen, in the 1980’s Lord Carrington, even in the 2000,S, people like Robin Cook.
Now, PMs stuff the place with any old buffoon and idiot of the streets such as James Cleverly (Thickerly) and David Lammy.

I myself had the idea of joining the Foreign Office, when I was doing my law degree in the mid-1980s. I took the Civil Service “fast track” exam. Each year, the bar was set at a level determined by how many people were going to be selected to go on for interview for the various ministries etc, eg Foreign Office, Home Office, Treasury. I scored fairly high, I forget exactly how high but about 85%; that proved inadequate, because the year I took the exam (held in a building near Regent’s Park), the standard was apparently very high, many people scored high, and I fell short by about 2 points. I was therefore never interviewed, and so never became “Our Man in Havana”. Life is full of little events like that, each of which can change one’s life course.
