Seems that eccentricity is not confined to the English.

Now that I think of it, I believe I read that the same is true of some Jewish schools in the UK, that the plus sign is banned.

Even at my free speech trial in late 2023, the rather pitiful outside Counsel instructed by the “Clown” Prosecution Service made mention of the Coudenhove-Kalergi Plan as a “conspiracy theory”. I had to put him straight on the spot, and I recall remarking that all he had to do was look around him (e.g. in Southampton, where the trial took place).
