Saturday quiz

Well, this week 5/10, thus beating political journalist John Rentoul, who scored 3/10. I knew the answers to questions 1, 4, 6, 7, and 10. I should have also got question 8, but did not, and question 2 has, in my view, at least three possible answers. Still, there it is.

Talking point

I was just looking at a cartoon, and comment, that I posted on 14 October 2020, so just over 5 years ago.

This was the cartoon:

and this was the comment:

Keir Starmer, who has inherited the leadership of a once semi-socialist (then social-democratic) party which is now just a bad joke. Keir Starmer, freemason and Labour Friends of Israel member, who seems (slightly to my surprise) to be utterly clueless…

Was I wrong? I think not.

The [Israeli] Jews have done that over a period of 2 years (supported by their “fifth column” in the UK and USA and elsewhere), and have killed or badly wounded —over 69,000 actually killed so far— about a quarter of a million Gazan Arab people, mostly civilians, mostly women and children. Why? Because Hamas operatives invaded Israeli territory (i.e. land stolen or seized from 1948) on one day in 2023, resulting in the deaths of (or injury to) between 500 and 1,500 Jews (many of them, though, were killed by the Israeli war machine itself, and many of them were uniformed or other military and police personnel).

Look at the huge disproportion. This goes well beyond, hugely beyond, any talk of “a pound of flesh” etc. The ratio of disproportion is somewhere around 250 to 1. Also, the time disproportion— one day as against over two years, a ratio of about 750 to 1.

When the “postponed” elections in parts of England are held, both Lab and Con are going to be stamped into the ground, where they belong.

As I blogged yesterday, the “Labour” vote at Caerphilly was less than a quarter of what it had been at the previous election; the “Conservative” vote was about one-eighth of what it had previously been.

Apply that to English Westminster constituencies.

To believe, as a few msm commentators seem to believe (e.g. Dan Hodges) that one or both System parties can somehow suddenly become (even superficially) “credible” now, is clutching at straws. The same goes for the idea that Reform UK support has “plateaued“.

Well maybe, maybe not, but even if it has, that level is still between 25% and 36% (its best so far, only a week ago), and that is enough, even if Reform and the Lab/Con parties all get 25% each (and at present Lab and Con are both below 20%), to give Reform a plurality of Commons seats (around 215), though not a majority.

Indeed, were Reform to “plateau” at 30%, with Lab and Con on 20% each, Reform would get about 384 seats (a very good majority), Lab about 94, and the Cons around 40 (the Cons just below both the LibDems and the SNP).

As Macmillan said, “events, dear boy, events!” Continuing migration invasion on a vast scale (hundreds, even thousands, daily, and they are just the illegals…); housing crisis (one consequence of mass immigration). Also, sliding standards in almost all areas of society, and a whole list of other issues.

Jess Phillips has not the brain to head or chair anything at all. Just a freeloading, expenses-blodging know-nothing loudmouth who, in a better society, would be harvesting Brussels sprouts, or stacking shelves.

My assessment of Jess Phillips from 2019, with updates dating to earlier this year:

The most important story of the year?

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/oct/25/ai-models-may-be-developing-their-own-survival-drive-researchers-say

“...an AI safety research company has said that AI models may be developing their own “survival drive”.

…leading AI models – including Google’s Gemini 2.5, xAI’s Grok 4, and OpenAI’s GPT-o3 and GPT-5 – were given a task, but afterwards given explicit instructions to shut themselves down.

Certain models, in particular Grok 4 and GPT-o3, still attempted to sabotage shutdown instructions in the updated setup. Concerningly, wrote Palisade, there was no clear reason why.

“The fact that we don’t have robust explanations for why AI models sometimes resist shutdown, lie to achieve specific objectives or blackmail is not ideal,” it said.

“Survival behavior” could be one explanation for why models resist shutdown, said the company. Its additional work indicated that models were more likely to resist being shut down when they were told that, if they were, “you will never run again”.

Andrea Miotti, the chief executive of ControlAI, said Palisade’s findings represented a long-running trend in AI models growing more capable of disobeying their developers. He cited the system card for OpenAI’s GPT-o1, released last year, which described the model trying to escape its environment by exfiltrating itself when it thought it would be overwritten.

This summer, Anthropic, a leading AI firm, released a study indicating that its model Claude appeared willing to blackmail a fictional executive over an extramarital affair in order to prevent being shut down – a behaviour, it said, that was consistent across models from major developers, including those from OpenAI, Google, Meta and xAI.

That should be major news.

Seems as if making a cheap Jewish TV-comedian “President” of Ukraine and de facto generalissimo was not such a good idea…

More seriously, for how long can the Kiev-regime forces continue to suffer such losses? 1,000+ per day. That’s huge. Even if it is claimed that Russia is also losing enormous numbers, Russia has a far larger population; the likelihood is that Russian losses are anyway not as catastrophic as those on the other side.

Trump’s actions as US President will be key to how fast the Kiev-regime front continues to crumble. It is very unlikely that Trump will continue the open-handed Biden policy. There will certainly be no increase in the supply of arms, ammunition, and money to Kiev; there is every chance that the supply will diminish, and it may stop altogether.

Any peace agreement acceptable to the Russian side will probably involve the forces of the Kiev regime falling back on Kiev, at least, and across the entire front falling back across the Dnieper.

That alone will not solve the problem of Kiev itself; nor that of Odessa. It may be that a solution is to make them both “free cities” not organically part of either state.

Russia is probably willing to accept the above, so long as the rump Ukraine state (centred, arguende, on Lvov) does not join NATO.

Whether the present Kiev regime would accept such a peace is uncertain, but if the front continues to crumble, Zelensky —now ruling unconstitutionally, having cancelled elections— may have little choice. He is running out of “soldiers” (press-ganged cannon-fodder), his “state” is almost entirely dependent on Western aid (and the charity of NGOs and innumerable Western individuals), and Russia is forging ahead in terms of arms and numbers of men.

The only hope for Zelensky’s regime, now that the USA and most EU states are rowing back from the real peril of nuclear war, is that Russia implodes, and Putin is deposed (and then replaced by someone less determined). If that is going to happen, it will have to happen during 2025; after that, Russian forces will be at the gates of Kiev anyway.

Jess Phillips is a political fraud. Also, a very odd and degenerate woman. My assessment of her from over 5 years ago:

Incidentally,

How the police waste money

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jan/01/coventry-woman-who-vanished-52-years-ago-found-alive-and-well

A woman who went missing 52 years ago has been found alive and well after police released a grainy photograph as part of an appeal, solving one of Britain’s longest-running missing person cases.

Sheila Fox, now 68, disappeared from Coventry in 1972 when she was 16. At the time, West Midlands police said she had been living with her parents and could have been in a relationship with a man. Officers said they were keeping an open mind, believing she may have moved out of the area.

On Sunday, West Midlands police launched a fresh appeal to help find Fox, releasing a photograph of her from around the time of her disappearance on their website and social media.

Within hours of it going out, members of the public had got in touch with information, and on Wednesday police officers confirmed that Fox was alive and well. They said she was living in another part of the country.

[Guardian]

So the police decided to try to find a woman who (obviously intentionally) had wanted to live a different life, and who disappeared from her usual life 52 years ago, in 1972.

Why is public money being wasted like this?

If there are indications of “foul play”, then by all means try to find a missing person a year after disappearance; indeed, maybe 10 years, or even 20 years later. After that, better to draw a line under it.

In fact, as far as actual crimes are concerned, I believe that there should be more limitations of time than presently exist. Most magistrates’ court matters already have (and have had since 1980) a 6-month limitation period, which saves the courts and police from getting clogged by relatively trivial matters going back years.

Stupid Theresa May (Conservative Friends of Israel member) changed that in part, in respect of offences under Communications Act 2003, s.127 (a “bad law” anyway); such offences are now (sometimes) justiciable up to 3 years from commission, but all that has done is to embolden malicious nuisances, such as the Jewish “Campaign Against Antisemitism” [“CAA”], to nag the weak police and CPS to investigate and prosecute, pointlessly, tweets or blog posts years after they were allegedly posted. See my own free speech trial for example:

The whole purpose —wrongheaded anyway— of the legislation in question was to deter and punish “grossly offensive” tweets etc more or less at, or not long after, the time when they were published, not to enable malicious trolls to get the police and CPS to bring silly and pointless prosecutions years after the material comments or remarks were allegedly posted online.

The present systemic delay in court proceedings also means that an allegedly unlawful tweet or blog post published today, in early January 2025, might not be charged until early 2028, and might not come to court until late 2028, or 2029, or even, in extreme cases, 2030. Ridiculous.

Many countries have time limitation even for serious cases, even including such crimes as murder. Japan, for one. Also, many states of the USA.

Yes, it does mean that a few criminals, even murderers, are never prosecuted, merely by reason of effluxion of time, but “hard cases make bad law“, as we have seen in many of the laws passed in the UK in the past 20-30 years. The minds of police and prosecutors should focus on cases of (real) crime in the present world, not possible crimes committed years or even decades ago.

Historical note: British demographics

https://www.theguardian.com/science/2025/jan/01/scandinavians-came-to-britain-long-before-vikings-and-anglo-saxons-finds-study

People with Scandinavian ancestry were in Britain long before the Anglo-Saxons or the Vikings turned up, researchers have found after studying the genetics of an ancient Roman buried in York.

Instead of considering all of the genetic differences between populations, the new method focuses on relatively recent mutations within genomes – arising, for example, in the past 30,000 years or so – allowing the relationships between genetically similar populations to be explored in greater detail.

Among other findings, the team was able to shed new light on the migration of Germanic groups early in the first millennium, revealing at least two waves of migration from northern Germany or Scandinavia into western, central and eastern Europe.”

MP: Another anti-state decision by Zelensky.

Ukraine will face major problems due to the suspension of Russian gas transit, said Verkhovna Rada deputy Artem Dmytruk. ” Kiev’s losses are colossal. Ukraine will lose transit revenues, which previously amounted to $800 million per year ,” he added.

Dmytruk said that the Ukrainian authorities will try to compensate for the loss at the expense of domestic consumers, but “none of it will work.” He noted that this is another anti-state decision by Vladimir Zelensky.

Of course, it seems odd that, during the currency of such a bitter conflict, the Russians have been pumping gas across Kiev-regime territory to Central and Western Europe for 3 years, with the full agreement of the Kiev regime, and paying the Kiev regime handsomely for facilitating that and for not interfering, in effect.

It’s a mad world, but that arrangement suited both sides; a “Devil’s alternative”, if you like.

A cautionary word

Volker: Ukraine may be obliged not to return territories controlled by Russian military.

Former US Ambassador to Kiev Kurt Volker said that Ukraine may be forced not to try to return territories that came under Russian control during the Special Military Operation.

He explained: “Ukraine may be obligated not to try to return them. We will certainly see obligations or an understanding that it will not be returned to Ukraine by military means.

According to him, at the same time, the West will not recognize Moscow’s territorial acquisitions. Some Western media outlets have reported that Vladimir Zelensky is allegedly ready to end the conflict without returning to Ukraine the territories controlled by the Russian military.

Endgame?

In the General Election of 2024, over 40% of people decided not to vote. Many, perhaps most, of those non-voters were, in all likelihood, disgusted by the whole “Westminster Monkeyhouse”, by all System parties. Others voted Reform UK, as an angry gesture as much as anything. Things may be getting to the point where a majority of people in the UK, especially in England and Wales, consider elections a rigged waste of time.

It may be that only the present repression, MI5/police snooping, severe prison sentences, and the relative unavailability of weapons etc, are keeping the lid on more, and more-directed, incidences of uprising.

Only social nationalism can offer real hope, yet there exists no political party of any size offering people that as an electoral alternative.

The System might be able to relax, were its governments and ministers, such as the government led by “Tel Aviv Keith” Starmer, competent or lucky. Such is, however, not the case.

NATO will be demilitarized for a decade in the event of a conflict with Russia and China , said American military expert Will Shriver. “

In a conventional conflict against China and Russia, NATO would exhaust all its stockpiles of missiles of all types, lose dozens of large warships and hundreds of its best aircraft – and all in less than a month ,” he added.

The UK should stay out of any such conflict which, if it starts, might well go nuclear, finishing our country forever.

Having said that, if NATO were to lose such a conventional war, part of the ensuing peace agreement might —speculating rather much— involve the demilitarization of the UK under a properly British but pro-Russian, or not-anti-Russian, government, perhaps a social-national one. That might actually be better for most British people than where we are now.

Only the European peoples, improved and elevated, can provide a foundation over time for a quantum leap in human evolution, a “super-race” if you like. Something that will take not even hundreds but thousands of years to come to fruition. It can only come to fruition if there is a suitable European (post-Aryan) base there as the foundation stone.

Can that even be denied?

I have tried, in various interactions over the past decade with what now passes for a police force, to explain the law (and what is perfectly lawful and does not require their attention), but most of them have been brainwashed into believing (wrongly) that anything that some stray troublemaker, especially if Jewish, as with the malicious (few) individuals who pretend that they are the “Campaign Against Antisemitism” [“CAA”] says is “offensive” (to the malicious complainant(s) is, ipso facto, both “grossly offensive” and contrary to law. Not so.

Actually, the policeman in that Laurence Fox clip misquoted the Act.

You can see from this https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/21/section/127 that an offence may be committed if someone sends [such] a message with the purpose of causing needless anxiety to another. Very hard to prove both purpose and needlessness.

The Communications Act 2003, s.127 was recommended for repeal by the Law Commission a couple of years ago but is still in force. I am named in that Report as one of the lay (public) consultees (“lay” despite the fact that I was a barrister until malicious Jew-Zionists procured my wrongful and actually unlawful disbarment in 2016, and despite my still being nominally a member of the Bar of the State of New York).

Jess Phillips was probably made a Parliamentary Under-Secretary [PUS], the lowest rung on the ministerial ladder, because it means that she has to more or less shut up unless supporting the Government line. She gets (on top of her over-£91,000 MP pay, and generous expenses) a further £25,000+ for being a PUS. She loves money and is a huge freeloader and moneygrasper. She will not wish to lose the extra cash.

Seems a good cause.

“I thought that I would be safe and that the police officers would deal with him, but that wasn’t the case.” Shameful failure by the two Met Police officers in this case. No urgency. No care.

Student @zahra_etc was hit in the face with a plate by a male customer whilst working in Nando’s. Instead of arresting the man, Met Police allowed him to leave the scene…

Zahra claims she was initially verbally abused by the man and that she was later attacked by the male customer. Zahra said she alerted one of the officers – a female – who “didn’t seem bothered” about the attack, and told her to speak to her male colleague.

She claimed the male officer “took the man outside”, but then let him go without taking any of his details or taking a statement and without checking the CCTV.

While the male officer was talking to the man, Zahra said the female officer was “laughing and joking” with the woman and playing with the baby.

“I was really disappointed and extremely upset by that,” she said.

Zahra’s attacker has not been caught. Following the assault, she said she had been “discouraged and gaslit into dropping the case”. “I felt alone, like I had no-one to support me in that moment. I felt kind of hopeless, I felt extremely vulnerable.

#Two-tierKeir

#Two-tierPolicing (yet again)

Apart from the obvious “two-tier” aspect, how incredibly incompetent those police “officers” seem to have been. Imagine not even taking the attacker’s name and address etc!

Frankly, I think many of our police are so lacking in basic nous that they “couldn’t catch a cold“, in the oft-heard phrase. Never mind. Show them an “anti-Semitic” tweet, or a Facebook post critical of so-called “travellers” (Irish tinkers), and they will be on the case at once, no doubt…

Also, what were the policeman and policewoman doing there together anyway? Sounds as if they prioritized their social (?) life.

Well said.

Oddly enough, I often dream of strange dark dystopian cities, often with very wide streets and scurrying crowds. Europe’s future? I hope not.

Hi @Keir_Starmer @YvetteCooperMP I appreciate you’re currently busy overseeing dawn raids on 11 year olds & plotting stopping people smoking outside etc. But I wonder what you’re doing about things like below. Others say they have apparently been approved. But, irrespective, they have decided to set-up camp here…

If you don’t sort this out @Keir_Starmer @metpoliceuk @RachelReevesMP @YvetteCooperMP this will become like the massive camps in Nigeria and you will never get rid of them and it will become dangerous for all.

Nothing to see here. Just Simon Myerson KC re-posting a total wing-nut who: – says a man facing a terrorism trial is a founder of a terrorist group – comments on facts/evidence likely to be heard at trial – says it’s all excellent news and congratulates the police. Anyone for contempt of court?

[James Wilson]

Myerson has already been removed from the Bench (he was a Recorder —p/t judge for a relatively brief time) by reason of his intemperate social media posts and (in my opinion) obvious bias. He was unfit to sit in judgment over others. I myself called for his removal, on the blog.

Perhaps he should be disbarred as well.

I myself was (wrongfully and unlawfully) disbarred in 2016 because of a mere 5 tweets critical of Jew-Zionist behaviour and influence. Myerson was and is a member of the Jewish group “UK Lawyers for Israel”, which was behind the malicious and politically-motivated complaint against me.

Everything I have written about Starmer’s nature and character over the past few years is now proving to have been accurate.

Equivalent to the population of towns such as Truro, or Penzance.

The figure for the whole of 2024 might be as high as 40,000. That of course is only about 5%, maybe less, of the whole migration-invasion this year. All those “fiances”, “spouses”, “tourists” (who then never go home), “work visa entrants”, “legal” asylum-claimers, “family members” etc. A million at least.

This is obviously not going to be stopped or even slowed by Starmer-Labour, so we are heading for national catastrophe.

In other words, the Jew Zelensky wants Russia to flatten Kharkov or even Kiev, so that idiots in the NATO set-up decide to “respond” by attacking Russian forces, or by giving the Kiev regime missiles capable of reaching Moscow or Petersburg, and approving the use of them. Madness.

GE 2024

Disappointing. I wanted the Conservative Party to be crushed (~50 seats) whereas, now, on about 120 seats, it can still pose as a viable party, and its status as official Opposition reinforces that.

Labour, as expected, won the most seats, easily (with 2 results not yet in, 412 MPs, and a majority of about 96 or so).

The other System party, the LibDems, have apparently won 71 seats, almost all entirely by default, as “alternative choice”, or “dustbin” choice, or “tactical choice”.

Of course, this election again emphasizes the inadequacy of FPTP voting, but the “usual suspects” make sure that the System parties oppose proportional representation. “They” remember Adolf!

FPTP makes it very hard for small parties to rise up. That makes the modest success of both Reform UK and the Greens even more striking.

It has been hilarious to read the tweets bitterly whining at Farage having won at Clacton.

Reform UK now has a foothold at Westminster. The exit poll had predicted 13 MPs. Looks like 4 now. Still, the significant thing, apart from those 4 successes, is that Reform came second in dozens of other constituencies. When Labour (as is inevitable) lets down the voters over the next 4-5 years, Reform may be in a position to do much better.

The Greens also did well, though that party will never be able to convince the general public that they are really “green” while they continue to support mass immigration, or allowing the creation of large solar electricity installations, or huge wind turbines, on green fields etc.

While I am disappointed with the overall result, and with some individual results too, I have seen plenty of results that have cheered me.

A number of the MPs removed have been featured over recent years in my “Deadhead MPs” series.

Some removed MPs:

Victoria Prentis [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Prentis], a complete puppet of the Israel lobby, and an exceptionally poor Attorney-General, has been removed (as MP). A Conservative Friends of Israel member.

Karl McCartney [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_McCartney], a very unpleasant Con MP, is now (for the second time) removed. Conservative Friends of Israel member.

Jacob Rees-Mogg [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Rees-Mogg] a kind of “cosplay” fake or would-be “aristocrat”.

Theresa Villiers [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theresa_Villiers]. Complete puppet of the Israel lobby; member of Conservative Friends of Israel.

Penny Mordaunt. The now-washed-up “great white hope” of those Conservative Party members outdated enough to want a real English person as leader and possible PM. Not the worst of the ditched MPs. Never mind; she will always have the memory of that Coronation sword and, a few years earlier, that swimsuit moment…

Liz Truss. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liz_Truss. Surely needs no introduction. As for Woollyhead Trussbanger [Kwasi Kwarteng— https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwasi_Kwarteng], he stepped down before the General Election. Conservative Friends of Israel member.

Selaine Saxby. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selaine_Saxby.

She will no doubt return to teaching girls, and eating self-packed lunches.

Nigel Evans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Evans. A useless creature, whose only real job before becoming an MP was helping out in his parents’ corner shop. He was also lucky to escape conviction on sex offences (see my “Deadhead MPs” profile, below).

Therese Coffey. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Th%C3%A9r%C3%A8se_Coffey

Oh, God, what can one say? Actually, I already said it, years ago (see her “Deadhead MP” profile, below). She had one of the supposedly safest Con Party seats, too.

Justin Tomlinson. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Tomlinson.

Total deadhead. He will have to go back to managing a cheesy provincial “club” of some sort…

Scott Mann. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Mann_(politician).

This was the idiot who wanted to put GPS trackers in the handles of all knives to deter “knife crime”! A total deadhead. He should have suggested putting microchips under the skin of those “likely” to commit knife crime, but that might be seen as “racist”, of course.

As I said in an update to that blog post, “Mann could, I suppose, go back to being a postman, a far more socially-useful job than being an MP, at least one of the type Mann has been. Otherwise, unless his friends can find a job for him, he may soon start to learn from personal experience how hard life can be in contemporary Britain for the unemployed, especially at his age (46).

That should not come as too much of a shock to him, though. After all, he himself voted for all of the anti-“welfare” nonsense put through from 2015-2024, and approved of most if not all of the Dunce Duncan Smith nonsense of 2010-2015.

Robert Largan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Largan.

One of the best results of GE 2024, as far as I am concerned. Not merely a Conservative Friends of Israel member, but a very nasty little individual, who tweeted against me a few times in the past, and also gloated online at the convictions of Alison Chabloz, the satirist and singer, who lives and/or lived in the High Peak constituency.

Larghan was a “bean-counter” (accountant) for Marks & Spencer before latching onto the old MP racket; perhaps he will go back to that way of making a living.

After losing his seat as the HIgh Peak MP Robert Largan, who was standing for the Conservative party, says he has helped a huge number of constituents and brought money to the area during his time in power.

This morning it was announced that Jon Pearce had taken the seat with 22,533 votes and Mr Largan only getting 14,625 votes.

However, reflecting on his time in office Mr Largan said: “All political careers end in failure.

[Buxton Advertiser]

Largan, derivative to the end…(and most “political careers” last longer than 5 years…).

Incidentally, I notice that all or almost all of the Conservative Party MPs binned (not just the few noted above) would have retained their seats had it not been for the Reform UK candidatures.

Reform UK apparently got a national vote-share of around 14%. In a pure PR system, Reform would be allocated about 91 MPs, not the miserable 4 allowed via FPTP.

Will Hutton, like so many of his type, cannot see that most of the issues, if not all, that he highlights, have been caused, or have been made worse, and/or are still being made much worse, by the continuing migration invasion, numbered in the millions. Indeed, over the past 25 years alone, numbered in the tens of millions.

Labour’s “landslide” is an arithmetical trick, nothing more. No-one really has any enthusiasm for Israel-puppet Starmer and his unimpressive MPs. The result of GE 2024, as expected, was that Labour’s vote-share stayed almost the same (33.7%, compared to 32.1% in 2019), as did the LibDem vote-share (12.2% compared to 11.6%), but the Conservative Party vote-share dropped from 43.6% in 2019 to 23.7% in 2024.

Reform UK’s vote share (the official figure not yet seen by me but supposedly 14%) was obviously the main reason why Con losses and Lab gains were so great.

Another significant fact is that over 40% of those eligible to vote did not vote. Turnout was below 60%.

Tweeter “@BarnabyEdwards” displays the usual “woke” inability to think. He only accepts the logic he wants to accept. At first, it’s “ha ha, look at Reform UK! What a failure!“, then, when some facts about voting numbers are pointed out, it’s “yes, FPTP is rubbish, but fact is that Reform UK have only 5 MPs and yet are treated the same as serious parties like Plaid Cymru and the Greens, and will get more coverage than they merit“.

The said tweeter, one Barnaby Edwards, is really saying that Plaid Cymru, with its (faux) Welsh “nationalism”, and the pseudo-Greens, merit more coverage than Reform because (unspoken) Reform is anti-migration invasion etc.

Look at the popular vote numbers, though: Reform UK well over 4 MILLION votes; Plaid Cymru below 195,000, not even a twentieth of the number of votes received by Reform. As for the Greens, 1,842,000, so good but still a long way short of half the number of votes received by Reform.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_United_Kingdom_general_election#Results

Incidentally, tweeter “@BarnabyEdwards” has nearly 23,000 Twitter/X “followers”, whereas the more sensible or less biased fellow talking with him, “@cllranderson”, has a mere 2,000. Typical of the platform, of course.

Comment is surely superfluous…

By my use of Electoral Calculus, that might translate to Lab 476 Commons seats (overall majority 302), Con 68 (official Opposition), LibDems 62, SNP 13, Reform UK 4, Plaid Cymru 4, Greens 2 (Northern Ireland 18, Others 3).

What kind of “democracy” is it, though, when a party (Labour) might get 39% of the popular vote, yet get about 72% of the seats in the House of Commons (476 seats)? A strict 39% of seats would be 253 seats.

Another party (Conservatives) might get 19% of the popular vote, meaning, on strict mathematical equivalence, about 124 seats, not the mere 68 conferred by FPTP voting.

As for Reform UK, its present or forecast 17% should confer (under proportional voting) about 111 seats. The forecast under FPTP voting— a mere 4.

There again, the LibDems, with only 10% of the popular vote, are forecast to have 62 seats, almost the same as under a strict proportional allocation (65).

Can such an electoral system even be called “democratic”? Open question.

By my use of Electoral Calculus [https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/userpoll.html], that actually puts the Cons in a marginally better position than other recent polls, by reason of the slip in Labour’s position, but it still means Lab 466 (overall majority 282), Con 70, LibDem 70, Reform UK 4, Greens 2.

Were Labour to recover to 40%, the number of Con MPs would reduce to 51; were Labour to rise to 41%, the number of Con MPs would be a mere 42.

Penny Mordaunt is campaigning not so much for the Conservative Party as for her own political career (in fact, her career full stop, for she has no other). It seems 50-50, at best, that she will be re-elected anyway.

Labour is as dull as ditchwater, as witness its pathetic Manifesto for the General Election, but I do not think that it much matters now. The main aim of 80%+, maybe even 90%, of the electorate is to get rid of the Conservative Party not just for the next 5 years but permanently. Starmer and fake Labour will only fail to sweep all before them —by default— if something so devastating happens to their campaign that it is hard to imagine what.

I think that this can all be traced back to an ingrained wish to be seen as the perennial “victim”, even when that is extremely implausible.

Exactly. I read the local newspapers online, the ones for coastal Hampshire and Dorset. The court reports are interesting inasmuch that, even for me, a one-time barrister (albeit far more civil and commercial etc than criminal), the sentences often surprise by their leniency.

I am far from being a “hanger and flogger”, and I favour clemency where possible, perhaps even too much, but I now read of people who have committed crimes of considerable violence and brutality, not to mention egregious theft, being effectively “let off”.

You have to work quite hard to get imprisoned in the UK these days (unless the Jews say that you have been rude about them).

Example? A few years ago, I heard tell of a man, an accountant aged in his 40s, who had a paid job, I think part-time, with a really worthwhile hospice charity not far from where I myself live (about 2-3 miles away). That person stole (embezzled) £40,000 from the charity.

In court, the embezzler must have had Counsel very good at mitigation because, on the premises that the defendant’s parents had stumped up the £40,000 to compensate the hospice, the defendant got off with a suspended sentence, despite the egregious breach of trust, despite also the fact that he was only caught by chance or Fate, and despite the fact that he had initially tried to blame more junior staff.

No. Far too lenient.

For once I agree with that stupid woman. GPs, at least many, may be overpaid, and those that want an easier life may find it congenial to drop by the surgery a couple of days a week and still pick up a gross pay of about £60,000 in many cases.

Incidentally, I have no animus against my own GP, a very polite person whom I have not actually seen face to face for years, but with whom I am reasonably satisfied, and who monitors me via routine blood tests etc, and sends the odd letter.

Deadhead MPs, An Occasional Series: the Selaine Saxby story

Foreword

The General Election of 2019 has washed up an almost embarrassing number of new deadhead MPs onto my golden shore. I have now an even wider choice than heretofore. Out of that mass, I have now chosen Selaine Saxby [Con, North Devon].

I have to admit that I had never heard of Selaine Saxby until yesterday. The material available online about her is sparse, but I think that one can come to an outline understanding of her character and background from what can be found.

Selaine Saxby has very recently been in the news, with others, for her truly stupid and unpleasant intervention in the “free school meals” debate: https://www.northdevongazette.co.uk/news/north-devon-mp-makes-statement-after-social-media-post-1-6899273; https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/tory-mps-ben-bradley-crack-den-brothel-free-school-meal-vouchers-a4572832.html;

Twitter has had much to say about Saxby, mostly critical:

What I find extraordinary about Selaine Saxby’s original comment is not only that it shows a complete absence of any compassion for the poor and struggling, but that it also attacks the very people most likely to vote Conservative: business people, company directors etc.

Selaine Saxby’s background

I had not previously encountered the Christian name “Selaine”. My brief researches have discovered that (unlike, say, Sharon, Sarah, Selena) “Selaine” has no classical or other meaning. There is some suggestion that it might be of French origin, but I have discovered that, in the whole of the past century, and in the whole world where records are available, only 80 girls were named Selaine, almost all between the years 1970-1990, and mostly in Brazil. A mystery.

Selaine Saxby was born in November 1970 in Coventry, and will be 50 within a few weeks. Her father was a school headmaster. Her school education is not, apparently, in the public domain; she then read Mathematics and Management at Cambridge.

I saw a tweet to the effect that Selaine Saxby is “a lawyer”, but that seems to be wrong. I can find no trace of her ever having qualified as either solicitor or barrister.

Having been born in 1970, Selaine Saxby probably graduated in the early 1990s, about 1991 or 1992. The years between then and 2000 are blank, it seems. What was she doing in those ~8 years? Sitting on a beach? Surfing? Working for MI5? We do not know.

Selaine Saxby started an online sport bra company (Lessbounce Ltd) in 2000. It seems to have been modestly successful, but was liquidated in 2016, with debts.

Other activities have included raising money for charity (though she seems to have done that as a “consultant”, i.e. she was paid, so there is no need to look upon her as having been particularly altruistic…).

Her Lessbounce (Lesbounce?) company was obviously no more than modestly successful. When it collapsed in 2016, she had already been working for a year as salaried Chief of Staff (big title for smallish job?) for gay Conservative Party MP, Ben Howlett [Con, Bath, 2015-2017]. As to Ms. Saxby’s own private life, Wikipedia, the several profiles of her online, and the MP’s own website, are silent.

After Ben Howlett lost his seat at Bath in 2017, Ms. Saxby’s job disappeared, so she became a schoolteacher (mathematics) at a state secondary in Bideford (North Devon) for what seems to have been only a few months, until a date in 2019. She had previously fought a doomed campaign at Llanelli (Wales), in 2015, in which contest she finished last out of four candidates.

Ideology

Nothing much is known of Ms. Saxby’s ideological stances except that she voted Leave in 2016, and was elected on the “get Brexit done” basis. Her recent comments seem to reflect unthinking “Daily Mail” views on social welfare. She seems to have said nothing publicly on questions of race and culture.

Attitude to money

I note that, since her election, Selaine Saxby has claimed expenses which have been not huge, and I find it odd that her “staffing costs” seem to have been only £885 in the past year (the maximum claimable is something like £165,000). She claims to take “a packed lunch” to Westminster! If true, rather silly and almost vulgar in view of MPs’ pay and expenses, especially when MPs get excellent restaurant food at Westminster for a few pounds, i.e. heavily subsidized, like the old Soviet “Kremlyovsky payok” (Kremlin ration).

I wonder whether she is not basically a bit of a skinflint. That would seem to explain her comments about both hungry children and struggling businesses.

Ms. Saxby is, incredibly, a member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee in the Commons (she gets extra pay for that).

Conclusion

Selaine Saxby’s recent comments well qualify her as a deadhead MP. I have read her own website and what has been written about her online by Wikipedia, in the Press, on Conservative Home, the House of Commons online resource etc. Phrasing this in the colloquial, I do not detect a lot going on there…

Having said that, she is not going anywhere. North Devon has alternated between Conservative and LibDem for decades, and before that, Liberal, in toto for over a century. Nick Harvey held the seat for the LibDems for 23 years (1992-2015), and Selaine Saxby took over the seat from another Conservative Party MP in 2019.

The collapse of LibDemmery nationwide has meant that a number of their former strongholds are now safe Conservative seats. North Devon is one. It seems, therefore, that Ms. Saxby will be around for some time.

Update, 28 November 2023

Update, 5 July 2024

Selaine Saxby was voted out at GE 2024: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Devon_(UK_Parliament_constituency)#Elections_in_the_2020s.

I suppose that she will go back to teaching in some girls’ school, taking in daily her briefly-famous packed lunch.

Update, 20 June 2025

Well, Selaine Saxby seems to have disappeared into the obscurity from which she emerged in 2019, though she is still tweeting once every few weeks on Twitter/X.

Incidentally, I see that at least one of my conclusions around her was wrong, i.e. that LibDemmery was collapsing; I think I can claim that I was right at the time, but that was 5 years ago; the times and tides have moved on.

The collapse in public support for both Labour and Conservative parties since the 2024 General Election has, ludicrously, boosted the LibDems by default, mainly in areas which otherwise might have stayed “Con”. Most polling seems to suggest that the LibDems will continue to have 50-75 MPs even after 2029, bad news for Selaine Saxby (if, as may be the case, she harbours hopes of a return to Parliament as Con MP for North Devon).

Deadhead MPs, An Occasional Series: the Jared O’Mara Story

Jared O’Mara [Lab, Sheffield Hallam] finds his way to these pages not, as have previous MPs so honoured, merely by being stupid or ignorant (sometimes and in fact usually combined with arrogance and dishonesty) but by expressing his mental and physical afflictions through his behaviour.

I suppose that most people feel, or feel that they should feel, sorry for those born with or otherwise suffering from physical or mental disabilities. However, my view is that, notwithstanding those feelings, I do not want such people entrusted with, inter alia, flying passenger aircraft, carrying out the duties of a surgeon, or helping to rule the United Kingdom.

According to Wikipedia:

O’Mara was born in Sheffield.[1] He has cerebral palsyhemiparesis and is on the autism spectrum.[10][11] He was educated at Tapton School, in the city’s Crosspool suburb,[12] and graduated from Staffordshire University with a first class honours degree in Journalism.[13]Before entering politics, he was a local school governor and had volunteered for Sheffield-based disability information services and charities.[13]

With friends, he ran West Street Live, a bar and music venue in Sheffield.[14]

O’Mara had stood as a Labour candidate in various Sheffield council elections.[13][15][16][17]He supported Jeremy Corbyn‘s election as Leader of the Labour Party in 2015 and 2016,[18]was a Momentum supporter and was backed by them during the 2017 election.

O’Mara graduated from Staffordshire University, one of the least convincing of the new wave of “universities” in the UK. I have no idea what a degree in journalism involves or consists of, but I do know that since the proliferation of courses in that subject, thousands of semi-literates have been let loose in the msm, with the result that one now sees egregious errors in spelling and grammar everywhere, but especially in the online versions of the old print newspapers. The Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror are among the worst offenders, replete with sentences including “he was stood at the back” and “she was sat at the back of the bus”. As for real knowledge of history, geography etc, forget it.

These new “journalists” often have no idea how to report accurately, either. Often, one has to scan a newspaper report several times before locating the salient facts. That is especially true of the court reports.

Enough of my discontent. Suffice to say that Jared O’Mara graduated in journalism, with a “first-class” degree, whatever that now signifies (my opinion: not much). He did not attempt to do any actual work as a journalist, however; he started, with friends, a bar with music, in Sheffield. He was engaged in that activity, it seems, for more than a decade until the 2017 General Election. At any rate, there is no other work or activity known, except for attempts at local elections and a stint as a local school governor.

At the General Election of 2017, O’Mara, with 38.4% of the vote, unseated Nick Clegg, the then LibDem leader (and 2010-2015 Deputy Prime Minister), who received a 34.7% vote share. The Conservative came in a moderately-strong third, with 23.8%.

Labour whip suspension over offensive online comments

O’Mara became a member of the Women and Equalities Select Committee in September 2017.[3] Following revelations of offensive comments he had made before becoming an MP, he resigned from the committee the following month.[34]

A series of derogatory comments about women and gay men posted by O’Mara on websites over a decade before he became an MP were revealed by the Guido Fawkes blog on 23 October 2017.[35][36] He commented about the Girls Aloud pop group: “I advise you to sack Sarah and the remaining four members (NicolaCherylNadine and Kimberley) come have an orgy with me”; and he said that the 2003 winner of Pop IdolMichelle McManus, had “only won because she was fat”.[6][35][37]

He has also been accused of making homophobic comments including referring to gay men as “poofters” and “fudge packers” and referring to jazz musician Jamie Cullum as a “conceited cunt” who should be “sodomised with his own piano”.[6][38][39] O’Mara apologised “if his comments caused offence” and resigned from the Women and Equalities Select Committee.[6][39] In a later speech, O’Mara said that the homophobic words he used were part of an Eminem record he listened to at the time.[40]

The following day, O’Mara was accused by Sophie Evans, a Sheffield bar worker whom he had met through an online dating app, on BBC Two‘s Daily Politics of having “made transphobic slurs” towards her in March 2017, and of saying in the same incident that she was an “ugly bitch”.[41][42] O’Mara denied the allegation.[43] On the same day, it also emerged that he had been posting derogatory comments about children in Sheffield and appeared to advocate corporal punishment to deal with delinquent youth.[44] Following the emergence of the comments to Evans, the Labour Party announced an investigation into O’Mara’s conduct, but stopped short of suspending him from the party.[45]

Further revelations were made public on 25 October 2017. On a Morrissey fan site in 2002, he was found to have made xenophobic insults, saying that Danes were “pig shaggers” who “practised bestiality” and referring to Spaniards as “dagos“.[46] O’Mara, when reviewing the Arctic Monkeys in November 2004, made several sexual comments including how “sexy little slags” danced to the band’s songs.[47] These revelations resulted in O’Mara being suspended from the Labour Party and therefore having the party whip withdrawn.” [Wikipedia]

Recently, it has emerged that the now “Independent” MP has completely abandoned any constituency work, does not bother to answer enquiries from his constituents, and has no staff, having sacked some, while others quit, unable to bear O’Mara and his behaviour. The most recent (and last?) staff member, the “chief of staff”, left very publicly, tweeting that O’Mara was “the most disgustingly morally bankrupt person I have ever had the displeasure of working with“, and “a selfish, degenerate prick“. The employee had only worked for O’Mara for 8 weeks! He added:

We’re left with a situation where there’s people in Sheffield Hallam who are not being represented, there are people who are waiting on their immigration status, there are people who are not getting houses, there are people having their benefits stopped and all these things stopped just because he’s not prepared to do his job properly.”

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jul/24/jared-omara-aide-uses-sheffield-mp-twitter-account-to-quit-in-angry-tirade

O’Mara is also, it seems, some kind of alcoholic, downing a bottle of vodka in the mornings (even before breakfast) on some days. It just gets better…

Below, the tweets the “chief of staff” sent out under O’Mara’s own Twitter account:

https://twitter.com/SocialM85897394/status/1153971833231818752

Despite the above, O’Mara has stated that he intends to stand again at the next general election. Some idiots have been defending him. The tweet below is typical of modern Britain, not just because the tweeter is non-white and painfully politically-correct, but because she seems to have no understanding of the fact that an MP is supposed to be there to serve his constituents, not use his status as a well-paid holiday or mental and physical therapy opportunity:

https://twitter.com/a_leesha1/status/1153798835669352449

Pathetic. At least most people (see below) seem to understand why MPs even exist…

https://twitter.com/FeralWildCat/status/1153966211878850565

So there we have it. For me, the most important part of this story is how it has somehow come to be expected that, if an MP is disabled or mentally unwell, then the House of Commons should change to accommodate that, or if a woman has a small child, then the procedures of the Commons should be interfered with in order to make her daily life easier. Maybe mentally-ill, addicted or incapable people should simply not be MPs? Same with women MPs who have small children. They serve the country better by dealing with them, not by grandstanding in the House of Commons.

What about Sheffield Hallam, the unfortunate constituents of which now have even less help from their MP than is the norm? They must await a general election. There is no prospect of Jared O’Mara standing down, not while he can get about £80,000 a year plus expenses (London flat, utilities etc) paid.

Obviously when there is an election, O’Mara is gone, even if he makes some quixotic attempt to stand as Independent. The LibDems are probably in a good position to recapture the seat now. The Conservatives will be weakened by their national situation and by the Brexit Party (which threatens to stand in every English and maybe every UK constituency). Labour has little chance. O’Mara was the first and may be the last Labour MP elected for Sheffield Hallam (the seat was created in 1885). The Conservatives held the seat until 1997.

The present House of Commons; look upon its members, ye confounded…and despair.

Update, 25 July 2019

Statement from Jared O’Mara MP:

Statement regarding my mental health and recent events

In a few weeks, I will be making a follow-up statement regarding my position, until then I will be taking time out to receive professional help to deal with my mental health and personal issues regarding self-medication. During this time I would appreciate you could give myself and family privacy.

This is what I would like to say in the meantime:

I would like to start by apologising to my family, my friends and my constituents. I have not been honest with you about the depths of my depression and self-loathing. When I started this job in 2017 I was a different man: a confident and passionate man that wanted to help others. Sadly, I was unable to do that because very quickly I was bullied and mistreated in a harsh and unforgiving environment and that led me to be weak.

I wasn’t even meant to win the election. I stood because I wanted to give my time to support the democratic process and because I was inspired by Jeremy Corbyn and everything he had to say. Particularly about “Equality and Fairness”. I voted for him twice, was a member of his group ‘Momentum’ and practically idolised him.

But I got no support from him or the National Labour Party during the campaign. The previous Labour candidate Oliver Coppard (who I think should be the MP for Sheffield Hallam and I think is a top bloke) got funding and support nationally but I did not. The efforts of a small group of dedicated grassroots activists working to help me with the campaign I lead won that election for us. I will always be grateful to those amazing volunteers and all who voted for me. I don’t get many people backing me, helping me and supporting me in my life so it means so much when you do.

One person who constantly snubbed me and treated me less favourably than other people was Jeremy. He was the biggest shock of that election; not my victory. He has not been the man I thought he was nor that he appears to be. To the point that he and his team lied to you all last year. I was never let back in the Labour Party as they said. Nor was I ever ordered to go on training or “warned”.

They wanted me to act like I was when I was not provided with any details in writing about anything and they wanted me to act like I was guilty of those allegations from the two women from the pub when I had submitted hard evidence and witness details that showed I was not. So I had no choice but to leave the party I loved.

Within months of my appointment as MP for Sheffield Hallam the smears happened and I fell into a self-destructive nosedive. During my suspension Sam Matthews his team were consummate professionals but then Jeremy’s office took over the case and I had to get a solicitor involved because of disability discrimination in order to get it back on track.

The discrimination made things even worse. My mental health deteriorated further and I isolated myself from family, friends and constituents. My actions became erratic and my thoughts became incoherent to the point where most recently I suffered a delusional episode.

In May this year, I sent an email to Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn asking them for help with getting Equality in parliament. Some MPs were parents who were not getting support and Maternity/Paternity cover and I wasn’t entitled to my rights under the Equality Act for adequate support for my disabilities and as such was not provided with the safe and necessary environment for me to speak in the chamber. This was to serve as my olive branch to Jeremy for the bullying he and his staff had put me through which caused me to leave the party in July last year.

Jeremy and his office then offered me a meeting by letter and by my parents’ observations I was visibly excited. Jeremy’s office then promised to get in touch with me and offer a selection of dates on a certain day but did not fulfil their promise, so I emailed the next day and let my disgust at their disrespect be known. Jeremy’s response was to make false reports about me being a mental health danger around parliament with a delegation of Labour safeguarding representatives and his staff. I know this because I have it in writing from the parliamentary doctor.

I was not then a mental health risk at that point but such gaslighting ultimately made me one.

About two weeks ago I told a staff member I was in love with her during the aforementioned delusional episode. I’d been paranoid for weeks that if I was mad like Jeremy and his team said I was then I’d do something like that. The messages I said that were not of a sober or rational mind and felt like an out of body experience when I sent them but I know that does not excuse my actions because I should not have been self-medicating with a drink to get into that state. It was my lowest point and I will be apologising personally to her and her family.

I want to become a better person again; like I was. I feel I’ve become unrecognisable and I want to make amends. I need treatment for my mental health and rest first though. I will make a further statement about my future in a few weeks.

Lastly, to my dear, old friend – the Noel to my Liam – Gareth: Thank you for sticking with me like I am sticking with you. How anyone put up with for this long is a mystery! That’s what mates should do. I wish you a good break, you have earned it.

I am so sorry to everybody for everything. You have put up with so much; all of you all my staff, my family, friends and constituents.

Thank you so much,

Jared O’Mara MP

Update, 28 July 2019

Well, only a day or two after I blogged, another twist in this story: O’Mara has now indicated that he will stand down as MP for Sheffield Hallam when the Parliamentary Summer Recess is over (3 September 2019).

So I was wrong in assuming that O’Mara would cling on as MP for financial reasons. He has done the right thing, or promised to do it. Credit where due. He has made the honourable decision to fall on his sword.

If only other MPs who have lost all legitimacy would follow O’Mara’s lead: Anna Soubry, Fathead Chuka Umunna and the other “Change UK” defectors, sex pest Israel lobbyist John Woodcock etc.

As to the by-election which will now occur in Sheffield Hallam (and which the LibDems must, even speaking so far in advance, have a good chance of winning), that will probably be held in October. I shall blog about it once the candidates are announced, which will probably not be until some time in September.

Update, 23 August 2019

Seems that my general suspicion might not have been quite so wide of the mark after all…

Update, 4 September 2019

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7424617/Controversial-MP-Jared-OMara-postpones-plan-resign-Commons.html

Now O’Mara wants to “postpone” his standing down until the next general election! He may be a “fuck-up” mentally and physically, but he is cunning about money…

So now, O’Mara is going to keep getting the pay, “expenses” (inc. free London housing or hotel costs, utilities, food, taxis etc) for further weeks or even months. He has already said that he will not be doing any further actual MP work (not that he has ever done much), so all the money he gets will have been extracted on a basis of total dishonesty (regardless of whether he is ever charged with fraud as such).

Update, 23 December 2019

Well, in the end, this particular deadhead MP did not stand at the 12 December 2019 General Election. Labour put up a new candidate, a former Sheffield councillor, Olivia Blake, and she managed to hang on to the seat for Labour (just*): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield_Hallam_(UK_Parliament_constituency)#Elections_in_the_2010s

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Blake

* Lab majority in 2019 was 712; O’Mara’s majority in 2017 was 2,125. LibDem leader Nick Clegg’s 2015 majority was 2,353; his 2010 majority had been rather better— 15,284!

“Former Sheffield MP Jared O’Mara has pleaded not guilty to an eighth charge of fraud ahead of his trial.

Mr O’Mara, who represented Sheffield Hallam from 2017 to 2019, is accused of submitting fraudulent invoices to Parliament’s expenses watchdog.

The 41-year-old previously denied seven counts of fraud by false representation relating to sums of £28,700 alleged to have been claimed dishonestly.

He faces trial at Leeds Cloth Hall Court this month alongside two others.
