[Clare Bridge, Cambridge]

A thought from England’s past

O, TO be in England
Now that April ‘s there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England—now!

[Robert Browning, Home Thoughts, from Abroad]

Saturday quiz

I agree with the implied statement of political journalist John Rentoul: this week was a touch more difficult than usual. He scored only 2/10; I trumped that with 4/10. Still not very good. I did not know the answers to questions 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10.

I suppose that events such as the Hay Festival are planned months ahead. The promotional literature is printed, contracts are offered etc. The mass of the msm and public have only begun to wake up to the fakery and lies around “Jack Monroe” since late last year.

All the same, it does not say much for the Hay Festival organizers’ nous.

Does the above mean that “Jack Monroe” is getting thousands of pounds to appear? I do not know.

I know Hay-on-Wye very well, and have been there many times, starting in the 1970s, but have never been there when the Festival (I always call it the Hay Literary Festival; maybe it has changed its name) has been on.

Yet the hard core of 460 utter mugs is still there, sending “Jack Monroe” thousands of pounds monthly via Patreon, despite all the evidence that she is a fraud, or near-fraud etc.

Peak “woke”? A UK-resident Nigerian “grifter” travels to New York City in order to have a photo taken of himself trying to insult a building. Meanwhile, New York yawns and moves on; in fact, does not even notice “Femi”.

I remember well my days in New York (intermittently from 1989-1993). You have to be a lot more mad (in either sense) than “Femi” even to be momentarily noticed. Look at the passers-by in that photo. Not even bothering to look round at him.

Still, it enables “Femi” to keep pretending that he is some sort of political and social commentator, rather than an unemployed and possibly unemployable “grifter”, without any influence whatever.

As I have been blogging for months.

From the newspapers

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11964115/Is-Ukraine-winning-leak-exposed-difficult-choices-facing-Kyiv-ahead-spring-offensive.html.

Now, a leaked trove of US intelligence documents has given us the clearest answer to date. It is not good news for Kyiv, and it could be about to get a whole lot worse.

Overall, Russia has lost more men and more firepower than the Ukrainians, the documents show, but its losses are nowhere near as devastating as many in the West had been led to believe – with less than two Russian casualties for every one Ukrainian.

ammunition for Ukraine’s Soviet-era air defences, which make up 90 per cent of its anti-air defences when you take low-altitude weapons like Stingers out of the equation, is perilously low.

Rockets for its BUK launchers were due to run out on March 31, while its S-300 systems only had enough to last until early May.

If those rockets do run out, the documents warn Ukraine will not only struggle to protect its cities but also its troops as it masses them for the expected counter-attack.

With Western stocks of ammunition and armour all-but exhausted, it is unlikely Ukraine’s allies will be able to build another army any time soon – added to which, the death toll may mean President Zelensky is running low on troops.

From what I can see (on the msm but also online, social media etc), the Kiev regime is running out of troops, recruits, and maybe —despite frenzied NWO resupply— arms and ammunition.

Everyone should watch that, and get at least two others to watch it.

It is actually pathetically sad that many “educated” Africans and blacks generally really want to believe rubbish like that.

In principle, the NHS, like the police, is a great idea. In practice, neither are really working, much of the time, in the UK. Hit and miss.

Interesting and well worth reading. I myself am, however, more concerned about the still-increasing Jew-Zionist power and influence in the UK, which includes the corruption and suborning of officials of the police and Crown Prosecution Service [CPS], of MPs and ministers etc, as well as their takeover of the mass media.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/apr/13/essex-police-investigating-golliwog-pub-display-examine-landlord-lynching-post

Police investigating an alleged hate crime over the display of golliwogs in an Essex pub are to examine online messages by the pub’s landlord in which he apparently joked about Mississippi lynchings alongside an image of the racist dolls.

Essex police confiscated the golliwogs last week after receiving a complaint about an alleged crime.

The force has now confirmed that detectives conducting the investigation are aware of Ryley’s Facebook posts. It is understood the posts are being reviewed as part of the investigation.

Earlier this week, a source close to Suella Braverman suggested Essex police had been reprimanded by the home secretary. The police force denied this.

Sunder Katwala, the director of the integration thinktank British Future, said: “It is important that police can do their job. These Facebook posts are important…”

[Guardian]

Are there actually any British people in or around this absurd misgovernment of Indian money-juggler Rishi Sunak?

Apart from that aspect, it must be comforting to the people of Essex that the Essex Police have time to waste on “investigations” about golliwogs, arising from complaints by troublemaking organizations. After all, it is not as if Essex has any real crime occurring within its boundaries…

The overarching problem today, as compared to the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and up to the 1980s, is that there are few real journalists. Instead, there are, to use the Japanese word, “salarymen”, pushing a System agenda. Most of them are, also, extremely poorly-educated (despite their paper “qualifications”), and some near-illiterate (as can be seen in the online newspapers, especially the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, and Sun, and even the Times.

The whole Western finance-capital model, as it has existed since the late 1980s, is a house of cards ready to collapse.

I would love to see warmongering one-time soldier Ellwood [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobias_Ellwood] removed from Parliament. An unpleasant character altogether, and one who not only seems to want war between the UK and both Russia and China but also has a Reserve role in the notorious online propaganda outfit, the 77th Brigade, in the rank of Colonel or at least Lt.Col., rather higher than the rank he held as a Regular officer (Captain). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/77th_Brigade_(United_Kingdom).

His parents’ origins and work overseas seem to be slightly mysterious; he himself was born in New York City, and was educated in both Bonn and Vienna, at the time (1970s/1980s) both major centres for Cold War intelligence and espionage activity.

See also: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11007353/Village-fury-Tory-MP-Tobias-Ellwood-runs-1-000-cat-drives-away.html. If the Bournemouth East seat were to be lost to Labour, that would be for the first time since its creation in 1974: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bournemouth_East_(UK_Parliament_constituency)#Elections.

If Bournemouth East is now in the frame as a possible Labour gain, the Conservative Party is in real trouble despite the apparently narrowing polls.

Looks as if that “grifter”, Amanda Solloway, may have to return to working in Sainsbury’s or somewhere. Incredible that someone like that could even be an MP; she even made it briefly —for a couple of months— onto the lowest rung of the Government ladder as a PUS [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanda_Solloway] under that clown, “Boris” Johnson.

Amanda Solloway’s Wikipedia entry has been heavily massaged over the years to delete damaging material. I see that any mention of her “controversial” husband (maybe now ex-husband or “partner”…I forget) has been expunged. Other material about Amanda Solloway herself has been removed.

Derby North was the seat (2010-2015 and 2017-2019) of the Corbyn loyalist, Chris Williamson, who was expelled from the Labour Party in 2019: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Williamson_(politician).

So both Truss and Woollyhead Trussbanger (Kwarteng) seem likely to stay on as MPs. There really is no justice in this world.

In practice, the Worker Protection Bill is a sinister threat to our freedom of speech. It will impose on employers a responsibility to take ‘all reasonable steps’ to prevent their staff being offended.

That can only lead to bosses trying to impose pre-emptive forms of censorship to avoid being dragged to a tribunal. Do we want to see our lively pubs reduced to a state of silent sterility, as if they were public libraries rather than public houses?

[Daily Mail]

That is exactly what the “woke” activists want…

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11935369/The-total-collapse-break-Putins-Russia-begun-Zelensky-official-predicts.html

The total collapse and break-up of Vladimir Putin‘s Russia has begun and the West must be prepared to deal with the potentially catastrophic aftermath, a top official in Volodymyr Zelensky’s Government has warned.

Oleksiy Danilov, the secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said the West must be on high alert, having in the past failed to be ready for the collapse of the Soviet Union.

He said Kyiv [Kiev] believed Russia was about to fall apart in ‘spectacular’ fashion within the next few years.

But he warned that China currently holds the upper hand over the Kremlin’s imminent capitulation. He said if the West allowed China to take territory in Russia, a new grave problem would be created.

[Daily Mail]

Normally, I would discount anything said by members of the corrupt and dictatorial Jew-Zionist regime in Kiev, but in this case the prediction may be accurate, at least in part.

Russia today has no ideology beyond pro forma Great-Russian shadow nationalism and chauvinism, mixed with a pathetic 1930s/1940s pseudo “anti-Nazi” propaganda campaign (re. Ukraine), which campaign fell flat as soon as it was introduced a year or two ago.

In the past (pre-Russian Civil War, and pre-1917/18), there was Tsarism and the Russian Orthodox Church; in the formulation of Pobedonostsev, “Autocracy, Orthodoxy, Nationality” (Правосла́вие, самодержа́вие, наро́дность).

Later, there was Marxism-Leninism-Stalinism, which from the early 1940s mixed elements of the previous “Holy Russia” into the mix. Post-Bolshevik messianism mixed with geopolitical expansionism and the other bits and pieces.

After 1989, Russia and many of its people signed up to Western materialism and the largely but not entirely (of course) fake “liberal democracy” Schauspiel. That, in its very active phase, lasted for only about a decade. The Russian people soon discovered, like the cat in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, that the “freedom” promised by the semi-Americanism under Yeltsin included some unwelcome “freedoms”, such as the “freedom” to be homeless, jobless, cold, and hungry (though, to be sure, Sovietism itself had produced plenty of most of those, especially before the 1960s).

This lack of overarching ideology is Russia’s primary problem, the one which underpins all the others (e.g. the poor morale of the Russian Army and intelligence services).

Russia has to find an ideology which is both intellectually coherent, and able to inspire the Russian masses emotionally.

Looking at the situation now, Russia has only one indisputable trump card— its strategic nuclear arsenal. In all other respects, Russia has few if any cards to play. So far, its military machine has proven so poor that it has had to be stiffened by the mercenary Wagner Group. As for the SVR and GRU, Stalin would have shot half of them by now. The same goes for much of the senior officer corps.

Russia does seem to be reprising its historical role of the “colossus on legs of straw“. Judging from the outside (I have not been there since 2007, and now have no connection with Russian laws, business, or people), it seems to me to have only limited internal stability, though at the same time little significant political opposition to the present Putin government.

I doubt that there will be a split into separate countries, if only because Russians remain one people (albeit with hundreds of minor nationalities alongside), with one language (ditto), and a shared history. What might happen, and has happened since 1991, is increasing autonomy of various far-flung territories.

Ukraine was always almost one country with Russia. The present war is almost a civil war, which may explain its bitterness, and its sometimes barbaric standards.

In the end, Ukraine will probably be devastated and then repopulated with Russian settlers, at least east of the Dnieper. We shall see.

One thing is for sure: if Putin does not do something to break the static situation that now exists in eastern Ukraine, he will follow the Soviet Union and DDR, and Nikolai II, into history, and sooner than he ever imagined.

I happened to see the YouTube video below: DDR (East Germany) in 1988. I was there in the summer of that year, though in the south of the country, and only for a couple of days. I have blogged before how, though there was no sign of imminent collapse, yet the DDR seemed to be a kind of stage-set of a state rather than a real one. Just impressions here and there.

About 14 months later, in 1989, the whole system collapsed and, in a final irony, the President, Honecker, sought political asylum in Chile, the government of which the DDR had for years called “fascist” etc. I recall having been very amused by that.

Anyone watching such a parade in 1988 would have thought that the display exuded statist stability and permanence. So much for that.

Does our own system in 2023 present even the appearance of stability? I think not. Perhaps the difference is that, in 1988 and 1989, the East German population could look to the West, to —immediately— the wealth and relative freedom of the Bundesrepublik and then, beyond German borders, to the rest of the EC (as the EU then was), and to the Americas.

To what, to where, can our people look for a potentially better life? Nowhere.

Incidentally, here is another DDR ceremony, this one in 1979, utilizing marches that include old German ones and at least one from 1920s Bolshevism (slightly pre-Soviet Union):

The marching steps could also have been seen in both the Second and Third Reich.

“Jack Monroe” never did sue MP Lee Anderson. Neither has she refunded any of the monies donated (needless to say)…

I looked today at Amazon. The “Jack Monroe” book Thrifty Kitchen, which bombed on release a couple of months ago, is now no. 26,957 from the top of the bestseller list. This indicates sales of about 160 copies per month at its new reduced price of £8.50 (original price was nearly £20, but that was immediately reduced to £9.99), out of which “Jack Monroe” may be getting between 50p and £1 per copy. New or near-new copies can be had on Amazon for as little as £5.

No wonder that she wants to keep going the Patreon scam, which must still be providing several thousand pounds each month, presumably taxfree as well.

Another (Chinese?) social control measure. How long before that sort of control arrives in the UK? The police of today, often politically-correct/”woke” automatons, would enforce it— we saw that during the “Covid” “panicdemic” and “scamdemic”.

If only that could be a matter of selection, affecting only certain groups.

North America is prey to every kind of craziness now, even when compared to the UK, Sweden etc.

Stray thought

Most of what one does, in any given occupation, is a waste of time from the point of view of the individual’s own utility or satisfaction.

For example, it is hardly a new idea that, in many ordinary, modest, occupations, one almost works in order to pay out to be able to work.

Leave aside highly-paid professional or other activity and focus on modestly-paid work (let alone minimum-wage activity). The employee, say an office bod, needs to spend out in order to get clothing for the office, say a few suits.

He (or she) needs to pay out for daily travel (which can be very considerable in cost), for luncheon food (even if only a roll and coffee, which might amount to £10 a day in Central London), and for various other things as well.

All so that the employee can work at all. Then there might be occasional or regular socializing, in which said office bod is more or less expected to participate. The resulting remuneration, after tax and “National Insurance” (more tax), is scarcely enough to do more than pay for the costs of having a job, plus food and basic shelter. Maybe not even that.

Likewise, look at someone who wins on a lottery, say £50,000. People say “like a year’s (or two years) pay” within the usual range in the UK. Not so, though. In terms of real pay, even a relatively modest sum such as £50,000 is huge, because most people, after all their taxes, costs, and expenses, have almost nothing left at the end of a month, or even year.

Quite. One of those who persistently tweets the rubbish about how “freedom of expression does not mean freedom from consequences” is the part-Jew academic (incredibly, a professor of laws in East Anglia), Paul Bernal.

Presumably part of the mass media barrage of support for the Kiev regime.

Hard to know what to make of Bear Grylls. I have only seen one episode of one TV show he did. I disliked it, and his attitude. Very full of himself. Also, he killed a small and harmless animal entirely unnecessarily.

As I say, I do not have a developed view about him. One hears about him having been selected for the TA SAS thirty years or so ago (at age 20, younger than f/t SAS personnel), though that was the (then) part-time TA version (now called The Reserves), and he was in it for only 2 years actively (3 officially).

Obviously more than a bit of a “tough guy”, looking at his Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_Grylls, though I (perhaps unfairly) tend to think a little sceptically when I see someone with dozens of supposed qualifications in their skill-set. cf. Rory Stewart: https://ianrobertmillard.org/2019/05/03/will-rory-stewart-mp-be-prime-minister/.

Plainly not a “fake”, but whether (as with Rory Stewart) the sum of the parts seems to add up to more than the whole, hard to judge. The TV image may or may not fully reflect reality.

Perceptive, from someone as young as that.

On the other hand, do not forget that there is also good in this world, and that, in the Russian proverb, “the world is not without kind people“.

Ha ha! “I’m lovin’ it!

The whole thing, the “trans nonsense”, has mushroomed from being a situation, or problem, affecting a tiny handful of people, to now being an absurd fad supposedly affecting millions and, also, a way in which the transnational conspiracy can close down free speech in a specific area and generally.

It has become a building block of the “New World Order” [NWO], as can be seen by the way in which trans nonsense propaganda has been used against, inter alia, Russia and Putin.

As for Eddie Izzard, another very negative factor in British society.

All very good, but most people in the UK have nowhere in which to grow their own food, not even a small garden. A half-acre garden is a relative rarity. Still, a worthwhile enquiry.

That “Boris” Johnson could become an MP was ridiculous, that he could become a Cabinet minister was almost unbelievable, and that he could become Prime Minister was a disgrace. The whole present Parliamentary system is a bad joke.

As for Nadine Dorries, what can one say? A stupid “ho” with a brain the size of a pea, but not so stupid that she could not tear the **** out of her Parliamentary expenses; she even gave her daughters non-jobs using her expenses: £60,000 a year for one of them alone.

The more I look at the way the “West” is going, that is in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, UK etc, the more it seems to me that, somewhere not far down the line, a kind of civil war, a kind of culture war, a kind of race war, a kind of (new-style) class war, all mixed together, is almost inevitable.

The only reason why the UK and France are not living under complete Jewish/Zionist tyranny is because the actual numbers of Jews and part-Jews, in proportion to the non-Jews, is small— in the UK, less than half of one percent.

The people, without a leader, without a vanguard party, are disorganized and, therefore, helpless.

In the UK, there is no such vanguard party, not even a germinal one.

We tend to think, at least many people tend to think, that civilization and culture are best-described as a smooth upward spiral or curve, whereas a staggered spiral is more accurate: a period of growth and improvement often followed by a decline, or even a catastrophic fall, before positive evolution can continue.

Two steps forward, one step back“, if you like.

Incredible. See my blog from yesterday for more.

A reference to the Grenfell Tower fire some years ago, after which “Jack Monroe” wrote a pack of lies saying that she went to the scene (60 miles from her home in Essex; she does not drive, either, which in view of her alleged and partly-admitted booze/drug consumption is just as well), and was “waved through” the security cordon by police (who must have known what a huge “celebrity” she was, with her reconstituted tinned pasta —mixed with sardines and curry powder— “food”…), after which she used the plans of the building (how? from where?) to somehow “organize” the scene.

Does any thinking person really believe that any of that was true?

“Jack Monroe” keywords: “fraud”, “conwoman”, “grifter”, “fake”. Among others.

What astounds me, and others, is firstly the sheer relentless and wicked gall of “Jack Monroe”, but then also, maybe more, the wilful gullibility of quite many people who —perhaps desperately— want to believe in something or someone, anything, anyone.

482 utter mugs are still (as of today) sending money to “Jack Monroe” via Patreon, several thousand pounds in total every month.

See my blog from yesterday about that.

I have to admit that, until yesterday, I had never heard of the Greenbelt Festival. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenbelt_Festival. It has, apparently, been happening annually since 1974.

The Wikipedia entry is rather out of date. It speaks of Anita Roddick [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anita_Roddick], the superficially principled “entrepreneuse” (serving “both God and Mammon“?) who died about 16 years ago, in 2007, as if still alive.

More or less true, but to complain about unfairness like that sits badly with me. There is something pathetic about it. Take charge, take power, and order the world the right way…

They never built a civilization, or any culture worthy of the name, and they are unable to maintain the culture and civilization white Europeans have built or, in most cases, even to live in it without being a danger, nuisance or, at the very least, a backward drag.

Black women become fat because white women (and men) are ‘racist’“…

Because “Dr.” Louise Raw has little else in her life except trying to “deplatform” those with social-national (or even conservative-national) views. In socio-political terms, a near-loony.

Maybe, if the USA is stupid enough to launch or provoke a war with Russia, that will be the way to rebuild North America, eliminating unwanted elements at the same time.

Good to know that cultural institutions are being maintained and rebuilt.

Interesting. I have blogged a few times about the day in 1994 or 1995 (I think 1995) when I visited the partly-privatized but still heavily-guarded Porton Down biolab campus in Wiltshire, UK, with the then Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK, a trained scientist who was later both a Presidential candidate and director of a biochemistry and biosecurity institute in Ukraine [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serhiy_Komisarenko].

Well, OK, but that old woman can express her views freely on the streets of (?) Moscow, and have them broadcast without repercussions. If she had been in Kiev, and had opposed the regime of the corrupt Jew Zelensky, she would probably, almost certainly, have been arrested; the interview would certainly not be broadcast or allowed to be put on social media. Everyone involved would be arrested.

So who is “brainwashed“? The Western msm is more or less brainwashing people in the UK, USA etc, though many are “thinking for themselves” and not supporting the war or the Kiev regime.

The Twitterati were all so shocked to find that there was a majority in favour of Brexit (meaning, mainly, in favour of stopping immigration), and that America voted Trump in 2016.

As I blogged yesterday, Jeremy Hunt seems to have a political cloth ear.

Goodwin’s tweet about “1950s” is not quite right though. “1940s” would be better. It is a linguistic point. The 1950s were when Britain began to exit from the terrible privation of the unnecessary war against the German Reich. The poverty of Britain was actually worse in the decade (and especially the 5 years) after the end of the war than it had been during that misconceived war. The decline in living standards during the war itself lurched lower in 1946, 1947 and did not improve, substantially, until about 1954 or 1955. The last remnants of WW2 rationing ended in 1955.

Incidentally, it is interesting to note that many poorer Brits actually had a better diet during WW2 rationing than they had had in the prewar 1930s.

Some of the (pro-immigration) replies to Goodwin’s tweet are unintentionally hilarious: idiots saying that the UK “needs” immigrants, that the UK is not “full” (despite housing covering more of our green fields daily), and one pro-invasion tweeter (one of the most vituperative) who lives on the Costa Tropical in Spain!

According to some tweets I saw, the decision was made by some black woman, by name Lorna Clarke: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/lorna-clarke-3a19b415. She, it seems, is actually the “BBC Director, Music” and formerly “Head of Rock and Pop“.

Education: Copenhagen Business School“…How odd.

That black woman who, on the face of it, knows little or nothing about serious music, made the decision. Even the Guardian has printed criticism of it: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/mar/14/classical-music-bbc-orchestras-singers.

How has this been allowed to happen? Early last year, the BBC’s music review recommended an extraordinary restructure. Alan Davey, the recently departed controller of BBC Radio 3 and the Proms, ceased to have direct responsibility for the classical ensembles that are now under the control of former head of rock and pop Lorna Clarke, while [Simon] Webb, the former director of the BBC Philharmonic, is the new head of orchestras and choirs in England.

The BBC’s timing is as calculated as its strategy is callous: ensembles struggling to recover from the pandemic, exhausted from keeping the show on the road throughout, three of the ensembles without a permanent director and all contractually gagged. There is not one single champion for classical music left at the BBC in any position of power or influence. Herod has been left minding the creche.

I no longer know if the BBC is a public service broadcaster; I don’t recognise it any more, or its values. If it no longer exists to do that which others cannot or will not, then what is it for? After 23 years of constant change, the ensembles of the BBC have never been more agile, flexible or willing to adapt, and they represent tremendous value for money in the grand scheme of the BBC’s budget and our licence-fee payment.

The role of cultural patron is not optional, and the responsibilities as custodian of music ensembles do not give the BBC permission to dispose of and dismantle them without serious public discussion, not to mention honest, transparent internal debate. The values and behaviour of what we are told repeatedly is “our BBC” must matter to all of us as much as the content.”

[Paul Hughes, in the Guardian]

Apart from the actual absurdity of having blacks and merely business-trained persons in positions of power in the cultural sphere, this damage goes right back to the 1990s, to John Birt [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Birt,_Baron_Birt] and Greg Dyke [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Dyke]. Those two, who knew and worked with each other, both had poor educational and —initial— work backgrounds, yet were allowed to take leading positions in British television and radio.

Repin “reclassified” as “Ukrainian”!

Thankfully, Wikipedia still has him, as of today, as the Russian he was: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilya_Repin.

Ilya Yefimovich Repin (Russian: (pre-1918: Илья Ефимовичъ Рѣпинъ) Илья Ефимович Репин, pronounced [ˈrʲepʲɪn];[a] 5 August [O.S. 24 July] 1844 – 29 September 1930) was a Russian painter.[1][3][4][5][b] He became one of the most renowned artists in Russia in the 19th century.

Repin was born on 24 July 1844 in the town of Chuguev, in the Kharkov Governorate of the Russian Empire, in the heart of the historical region of Sloboda Ukraine.[10][11][12] His father, Yefim Vasilyevich Repin (1804—1894) served in an Uhlan Regiment of the Imperial Russian Army. He fought in the Russo-Persian War (1826–1828), the Russo-Turkish War (1828–29) and the Hungarian campaign (1849).

Poland reprising its 1939 performance? Madness.

If Poland fights against Russia in 2023, that would trigger a Russian response which might mean that there will be no Poland, and certainly no Warsaw, by 2024. In fact, Poland being now a member of NATO, it might just trigger WW3.

The SNP may have had its day in the sun, but it could reinvent itself if it became more social-national, opposed mass immigration and migration-invasion, binned non-whites/non-Brits such as Humza Yousaf as candidates and office-holders, and announced a policy of leaving NATO and closing down all RAF/USAF bases, as well as submarine bases, while asking Russia for closer relations. None of that will happen, of course.

The idiotic woman even wears a rainbow scarf. Like a red flag, a warning signal. Just looked her up on Wikipedia; she is actually Canadian! How mad is that? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorna_Slater.

All this stuff, dozens of things included, is part of the gradual approach of something which will go well beyond the traditional “police state”.

Oh yes. I recall once running late at Gatwick, only to be told by some simpleton in uniform to remove my shoes! I only caught my plane because it was delayed by engine trouble.

Even worse are the self-important armed police, strutting around with their Heckler & Koch MP5s or other weapons. So, if there are suspected terrorists, will they just open up with automatic weapons in a crowded terminal? I hope not. They are basically there “for show”.

Saturday quiz

Only just beat political journalist John Rentoul this week. He scored “5 and a half“, he says, while I managed 6/10. I did not know the answers to questions 3, 4, 7, and 10. In fact, I had read about no.7 a while ago but forgot about it, and also should really have guessed no.10.

The destruction of beauty, and the creeping growth of housing

Earlier this week, I blogged about the horrible destruction of trees in Armada Way, Plymouth by a corrupt local council. Now, while reading a report about the recent suicide of a headmistress of a school attended by me 60 years ago, I saw something equally unpleasant about Emmer Green, just north of Reading.

Northwest and north of Reading, across the Thames, there are two basically suburban areas abutting the open woods and fields of Oxfordshire: Caversham Heights (where I lived at times as a child) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caversham_Heights], and Emmer Green [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmer_Green]. About two or three miles of more or less open country separates the two. Within that couple of miles there was, inter alia, a golf course, Reading Golf Club, which in the 1960s and 1970s was the only golf course on that side of the Thames and that close to Reading.

I myself was a junior member of Reading Golf Club for a year or so around 1972, when I was 15-16. My golfing equipment was old and rudimentary, given to me by family friends, I think: one or two woods (drivers), an oddly-short no.3 iron, an ancient and wood-shafted mashie niblick (no.7 iron)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsolete_golf_clubs#20th_century_wood-shafted_irons], and a putter (also wood-shafted). Out of date even then.

That golf course was rather beautiful, I thought, with plenty of majestic trees framing the fairways of the 18 holes, and even a very small valley, from which one drove from the tee on one side to the hole on the other. A very unusual par as well— 2 par, if I recall aright.

That hole must have been some kind of anomaly, because 3-par is the lowest par usually designated: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Par_(score). Maybe I just remembered wrongly, and it was 3-par; no matter.

I managed (by luck, really) to get a hole-in-one on that, though it hardly counts, arguably, not being a more typical sort of hole.

Be that as it may, I was discomfited to read yesterday that not only has that golf course now closed (and been subsumed, as a club, into a new golf club with a course a few miles away) but the area of the old course has been designated for housing— 223 new houses. There is strong local opposition from nearby residents calling their protest group Keep Emmer Green: https://www.keepemmergreen.org/.

[the old Reading Golf Club, Emmer Green, more or less as I remember it]

We see this all the time now, especially in southern England: “infilling” of green areas around or in towns and cities, usually so that housing can be built for profit. Mass immigration, births to existing UK residents, the collapse of the traditional family. Overall result— pressure to build more housing.

In the end, will there actually be an England worth saving or defending? A question members of the armed forces, and the intelligence and security services, might pose to themselves in a lucid moment.

Incidentally, since the early 1970s, I have rarely played golf, and own no golf clubs (both my younger brothers are keen players, though).

Whatever the logical reasons behind the policy, Jeremy Hunt must have a political cloth ear to introduce such a measure at such a time.

“Covid” “panicdemic” nonsense, migration-invasion nonsense (fake “refugees” put up in hotels etc), general “Ukraine” nonsense (arms, ammunition, medical supplies, and hard cash, all being funnelled to the corrupt and dictatorial regime of the Jew Zelensky). Etc.

Prediction of the result of a general election not due to be held for possibly 20 months is a fool’s game, of course, but at present it certainly looks like a shoo-in for Labour, and most policy announced by the “Conservatives” seems to play into Labour’s hands despite Labour itself being so lacklustre.

Seems to be useful public health advice. I myself have no liver problem, but am posting those tweets as a general warning to anyone who, or who knows someone who, is in that situation.

Better pay than being “His Excellency” the Ambassador to [somewhere]. While a few British ambassadors get nearly £150,000, most are below £100,000, and some receive as little as £60,000, though they do get reasonably-nice, sometimes very nice, ambassadorial residences, and there are a number of perks. Also, diplomatic immunity. I should have appreciated that a few times myself, when working overseas. Very convenient.

I believe that Murray was appointed to Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in 2002.

Murray seems to be someone highly principled (according to his own lights), and a bit awkward, like one or two Quakers I encountered several decades ago. The Diplomatic Service was almost certainly the wrong career for him.

See also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Murray

In fact, if Wikipedia is accurate, Murray is not wholly reliant on his online donors, but also has a number of business activities: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Murray#Entrepreneurial_activities.

God… and most of those people have so little anyway, and amid such wealth. The USA in some ways isthe Great Satan“, as the Islamic crazies sometimes claim. Not in every way, but in some. I myself have experienced a little of both the more comfortable and less comfortable sides of American life. The USA needs radical reform.

So much for “Biden the great humanitarian”. Not that he has invented such hypocrisy— Clinton was there first.

Incidentally, the (typically labyrinthine) American bureaucracy pays out to people in need (those that can get it at all), a very modest amount, in many cases just a few hundred dollars a month: see https://en.as.com/en/2022/01/22/latest_news/1642820139_262174.html.

(that’s cash; other programmes exist in parallel, such as Medicare, Medicaid etc).

Of course, tweeting (or blogging, or vlogging, or writing articles, or even launching doomed public law claims) does not frighten MPs. What does? Well, I am not going to say anything, but think back over the past decade…

Ukraine situation

True. Brutal. However, it seems that some fighters on both sides might be termed “cannon-fodder“. In fact, we in the West, subjected to the usual msm lies and spin, are not getting the true measure of the Ukrainian/Kiev-regime losses. Massive.

A maverick officer, too honest for his notional superiors. Every army has a few. General Lebed, a Soviet and, later, Russian Army commander, was like that. He would have made a good President of the Russian Federation but, like others before him and since, he died in an apparent “accident” (in his case, a helicopter crash). Maybe it was an accident. Maybe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Lebed; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Lebed#Political_views.

Of course, over the years quite a few Jews have actually been exposed and/or arrested for attacking Jewish graveyards, with the aim of inciting other Jews (via newspaper reports) to get excited about “antisemitism”, as well as the aim of goading the authorities to crack down on so-called “far right” (social-national) people or parties and groups, as well as repressing freedom of expression.

I have never understood why any social-national people would attack Jewish or any other graveyards. What is the aim? To kill dead Jews? Very strange.

Obviously, I agree with the 95%…

If only the UK could have that level of economic and social development.
