Saturday quiz

Damn. This week I was, for once, beaten by political journalist John Rentoul, who scored 8/10; I scored 7/10, and did not know the answers to questions 3, 8, and 9 (in fact, I should also have got no. 9 right, but I had forgotten about his existence).

Most readers will know the facts of the case: Sam Melia sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 2 years, of which he will probably have to serve 8-12 months, while Laura Towler struggles with her child —soon, two children— everyday life, her house (she may have a mortgage, I do not know), and her small business. Therefore, a crowdfunder was set up to help her at such a time of crisis. That fund has now reached, at time of writing, £58,972, and still rising. Excellent.

The monies raised will go towards helping the couple survive the year ahead, and get them back on their feet after Melia is released. In addition, no doubt a small part of the money will be directed to helping him while he remains in prison.

To use that service, you need the prisoner’s name, his official prison number, and his date of birth. He said he would appreciate letters from people to help pass the time. Please don’t get too political or the letter won’t get through.

Also incidentally, I myself am due to be sentenced this week, in my case in the magistrates’ court, and for the political offence of having breached the Communications Act 2003, s.127 (recommended for repeal by the Law Commission but still at present on the Statute Book).

Incidentally, many imagine that I just hate Israel and anything to do with it. Not so, as such. I like some of the Israeli town planning, and the efforts made to green the cities and towns; also, I like some of the modern architecture, and some of the agricultural, horticultural and hydrological techniques and projects (irrigation, de-salinization etc).

By the same token, I have only limited respect for many of the Arabs of the wider region (I have been to Egypt, Qatar etc several times, and, in the past, had occasional dealings with Kuwaitis and other types, as well as a few visits to Tunisia).

However, the Jews should never have been allowed or encouraged to take over Palestine and turn it into the state of Israel, and their brutal repression of the Arab inhabitants (including mass killings, deportations, and other “ethnic cleansing”) has been, in effect, a 76+ year war crime.

I shall be sorry to see Paris destroyed, if it comes to that, even though it has become largely a poubelle (rubbish bin). France may have its force de frappe (independent nuclear deterrent), but if it ever uses it, Paris and all other major French cities will be annihilated.

The French discussions, though, do seem to give the lie to the outpourings of Grant Shapps and others. Macron is obviously not expecting a Kiev-regime advance in 2024; au contraire… he expects Russian advances upon Kiev and Odessa. So do I, though whether they will be in 2024 or 2025 (after the US and UK elections this year) is an open question.

Now that the late Queen fades from memory, it is time to move to a republic.

Also, people from poorer countries outside Europe can live off small amounts of food-money, because they are accustomed to making their money stretch. I have had to do it myself a few times in the past, but it seems to come naturally to those such as a Nigerian girl I met in the 1980s, when she was a tenant of someone I knew. She would go to the street market a mile or so away in Peckham (South London), buy rice or potato by the sack, cook it with some hot spices and sauce etc, maybe add some small amount of protein, or not even that, and bingo…dinner served.

In fact, I seem to recall the same was true of a West Indian girl, another tenant of the same landlord, and also in the 1980s. She had been sacked for theft by her employer, the wife of an MI5 officer (she denied that she had stolen anything, but was sacked anyway), and was another one with basically no, or very little, cash.

I myself am not naturally a thrifty person, but I have blogged in the past about how I have had a few (in the American word) “hardscrabble” times in my life. You adapt, one way or another…

The present “Conservative” Government has to be removed, and the Con Party stamped on, but Labour under Jewish-lobby puppet Starmer is going to impose an “elected” dictatorship. It will be all but impossible to change that path by the usual Parliamentary/electoral methods.

The SNP is led by a Pakistani Muslim. Scottish Labour is also led by a Pakistani Muslim. I favoured Brexit, but saw that it was (deliberately) mishandled from the start. A journalist in 2017 visited the civil service office that was meant to be planning for a smooth withdrawal, only to find it shut. That says it all.

“We are where we are”, in the commonly-heard phrase. For me, Britain’s main strategic move must be to withdraw from NATO before some lunatic starts a Third World War, and at the same time to pursue an independent course combined with a close friendship with the Russian Federation.

Russia can supply us with oil and gas at cheap rates, maybe even cost-price or below. It could save us.

Yet those mild anxious or protesting tweets have led to a flood of Twitter/X “woke” idiocy, as in the tweet below by one Andy Walsh:

Money, in vast amounts, wasted on the “Covid” panicdemic/scamdemic, on no-hope stuff such as “Ukraine” (the Kiev regime), money wasted on Israel and the UK Jewish lobby, huge sums expended on the upkeep and health of millions of migrant-invader parasites, money in even greater amounts wasted on a largely-useless State educational system. Further vast sums spent on pointless “Defence” hardware.

As Goodwin says, all spent without much real benefit to the majority of UK residents, especially the real British.

As said earlier and previously, I shall be sorry to see Paris turned into a wasteland of irradiated ash, even if in recent years it has become rather a poubelle…

Morning music

Twitter/X is now full of idiots saying that Lydon is “wrong“, “gammon“, a “hypocrite” (because his family was Irish—as if that is equivalent to being a Congolese or Afghan…) etc.

All one has to do is remember that active Twitter/X is a very small world (perhaps 1% of the British people, and very atypical, which is why its “woke” apparent majority always gets it wrong politically, from the result of the Brexit Referendum to Trump’s first Presidential election to (you name it).

Amazing that people are somehow surprised at all. The economy was deliberately (and for no good reason) largely shut down for two years, and by Government decree, during which time millions of people were paid to stay home watching TV, or drinking, or paid to work (at well below peak capacity) from home.

At the same time, and over recent years, half a million to a million useless parasites per year, from all over the world, have been imported to the UK as fake “students”, “high-skilled workers” (Indians who can work a computer), “family members”, fake fiances/fiancees etc, and/or allowed to stay having come here illegally on small boats. Most of them supported entirely from Government funds.

That is in addition to vast sums wasted otherwise during the panicdemic/scamdemic: “test and trace”, “PPE” etc.

Britain continues to go down, both economically and socially. Look at the cities: people sleeping in the streets, which are overrun anyway with unwanted migrant hordes from all over the world. In the countryside, the roads are like those I recall from driving in Bulgaria and Greece etc 20-25 years ago; potholed, poorly-surfaced and, unlike those of Bulgaria or Turkey decades ago, overcrowded.

Then look at the UK’s police (who prefer to snoop on bloggers and Twitter/X accounts rather than do their proper job), or the NHS (which is almost a skeleton service).

Oh, and the Jew Shapps was in Kiev on Thursday, throwing more British taxpayer monies at Zelensky’s brutal, corrupt, and shambolic dictatorship, which is about to be flattened by a Russian steamroller.

It also occurs to me that almost all the Ukrainians, of all social/educational levels, I have met (admittedly not a huge number) have been very full of their own importance; that was certainly the case with Komissarenko.

The Jew Shapps is both mendacious and, at the same time, a total clown. Ukraine (Kiev regime) in fact cannot “win” against Russia, even to the extent of “taking back” Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts. If there were even a possibility of it, Russia could and probably would flatten all major Ukrainian cities.

Shapps is, of course, also lying when he calls Ukraine “a democracy“. Brutal, shambolic, corrupt; a country where press-gangs kidnap men off the streets for use as army cannon-fodder, and where young girls who are caught stealing lipsticks etc are almost “tarred and feathered”, tied to lamp-posts while people assault and insult them. A country where elections are now banned, as are trade unions and all free speech.

I also tend to think that someone who can damage a valuable and historically-significant painting is probably capable of doing a great deal worse.

One Man’s “Extremism” is Another Man’s Struggle for Liberty and Justice

Well, that pretty much puts the cap on the expected “Conservative” Party debacle at the upcoming General Election.

The Con Party is presently running at between 19% and 27% in various opinion polls, with most closer to the lower level. Call it 23%. Of those 23 points, about 20 points consist of the votes of persons over 65. If that demographic were all to vote elsewhere or abstain, the Con Party would be looking at a vote of about 3%, the same sort of level as that typically achieved nationwide by the Greens (2.7% in 2019).

Of course, that will not happen. Many middle-aged and elderly people are people of habit. Many have habitually voted Con for decades. Many say “so if I don’t vote Conservative, for what can I vote?” Brainwashed by the “two main parties” scam.

Having said that, I now think that many people even of advanced years are now angry enough to either abstain or vote elsewhere as a protest.

I do not think it totally impossible now for the Conservative Party to go one or two points below 20% at GE 2024. That would mean only a few Conservative Party MPs left— between 20 and 50, depending on all the other factors in play.

I see that their crowdfunder is now at (as of time of writing) £56,350, a magnificent sum, and still increasing, though more slowly than in the days since Melia’s sentencing hearing (last Friday, 1 March 2024; he was sent down for 2 years, meaning that he will probably not emerge for 12 months, maybe 8 months).

The money will support Laura Towler (who has a young child, with another expected within weeks), will make Melia’s time in prison more tolerable, and will support the couple and their socio-political struggle in 2025 and thereafter.

Now Rachel Reeves is intending to increase the existing harassment and bullying of the sick and disabled, and unemployed, in the UK, a theme she has supported previously.

The present Government has to be removed, but anyone who imagines that “the party formerly known as Labour” will be better is deluding himself.

Labour’s main problem in getting to its GE 2024 “victory by default” is its own MPs, and especially its own front bench. Every time they open their mouths, they seem less pleasant, and indeed less competent. I suppose that is why Starmer keeps them gagged whenever possible.

A rather odd film, which (as has often happened with me when I encounter experimental-style films, like those of Tarkovsky) grew on me when I saw it for the second and third time (on video).

I first saw Alice in the Cities in the early 1980s, at some art-house cinema, as the Americans say, in Hampstead. I was rather reluctantly dragged there by someone I knew, “Major Tillman” (a nom de guerre), and his French girlfriend. His girlfriend apparently later complained that I had “fidgeted...like a little child“. Probably. I do not have a lot of patience with films. I believe that I heard that they eventually married, and now live in Paris.

In fact, that person’s opinion is legally incorrect.

It is a long time since I practised at the Bar (2008) and even longer (nearly 30 years, early/mid 1990s) since I did any ordinary criminal law, but my clear recollection is that someone can be convicted of shoplifting (theft) without having left the store. That is because the immediately-relevant component of the offence is that the person has “appropriated the rights of the owner” to the goods taken (with a dishonest intent) and with the intent of permanently depriving the owner.

Assuming that the foodbank basket is (as the one in Waitrose is, and I think at Tesco etc) under the name and control of [name]-Foodbank, then anyone taking food from the shelves, with the appropriate intent, and then “giving” that food to the foodbank by placing it in the foodbank basket or bin has committed the offence, even if the shoplifter does not get any (material) benefit.

In fact, I doubt whether it would be any different even were the foodbank basket or bin to be labelled with the name of the supermarket, because the shoplifter has still “appropriated the rights of the owner” to the goods, and intending to permanently deprive. I have no idea whether that exact situation has ever been tested in court, or in appellate court, though.

The same is true of a shoplifter who places items in a shopping bag or pocket (assuming that the “mental element” of dishonesty is present). It is not necessary, to ground the offence, for the shoplifter to have left the store with the goods taken. This is a common misconception.

It is true that store detectives and the like usually do wait until the suspected shoplifter has exited the building before stopping the suspect. That is because the shoplifter can hardly then claim to have intended to pay (as he or she might be able to say if stopped somewhere inside the store); there have, though, been appeal cases reported (often in the 1970s, the Theft Act 1968 still then being quite new) where convictions were upheld under such circumstances.

It is just easier for store detectives to stop suspects outside.

Melia’s wife, the brave Laura Towler, has been left to struggle with her home and small business, with one small child, as well as being about to give birth to a second child.

I am glad to see that their crowdfunder, established to help Laura Towler (expected to give birth to their second child soon) and Melia both survive and thrive, and to maintain political struggle both during the coming year and thereafter, has gathered in, as of time and date of writing, some £54,000, and is still increasing rapidly. Regular readers of the blog will be aware that I have blogged in recent days about the very unjust prosecution, conviction, and sentence visited upon Sam Melia and, consequently, upon his wife, Laura Towler, and their children (one very young, the other expected to be born sometime in the next few weeks).

I am not a member of Patriotic Alternative, and am personally unacquainted with the couple, but this is a disgraceful persecution, not merely an unjust prosecution.

Many readers will be aware that Sam Melia of Patriotic Alternative was imprisoned on Friday for 2 years, which means that he will be incarcerated for a period somewhere between 6-12 months.

Melia’s wife, Laura Towler, is looking after their small child while Melia himself sits in prison; another child is expected within the next 2 months.

While I am unacquainted personally with Melia and Laura Towler, and while I do not belong to or (as such) “support” Patriotic Alternative, it is our duty to help those in trouble, especially those on our side of the overall societal argument. Even the New Testament says that.

I agree with Kurten, and the same is true of my “case” (I am going to be sentenced in a couple of weeks, in effect for having written the truth as I see it).

I wonder whether Melia will appeal, at least on sentence. It can be risky, but might work out for him on the facts as I have read of them. Hard to call. At present, it seems that he may be able to get out before the full year (out of two years) is up, but I only know what I have read here and there about his case.

Rochdale by-election

The latest from the bookmakers is that George Galloway (Workers Party) is odds-on to win, followed by (around 6/4) Azhar Ali, the former Labour candidate disowned by Starmer, Azhar Ali therefore being an independent candidate in reality, though “Labour” on the ballot paper. The next in line is the LibDem, trailing the frontrunners at about 65/1. Reform UK (Simon Danczuk) is at 100/1. The rest of the field of 11— 1,000/1.

This is now between Galloway and “Labour” Azhar Ali. Former Labour MP Danczuk only got 1.8% (as Independent) in 2017, after having been sacked. The LibDem may do better than expected, being a white man and alternative to Ali and also to Scotsman George Galloway, whose campaign has been all about Gaza, and whose voters are (90%+) Muslims. Still, if I had to bet, I would probably go with the perceived favourite, Galloway.

The by-election is between two candidates trying to capture the Pakistani Muslim vote. Where do the English voters go? They are still the majority in the constituency, numerically, yet have been frozen out.

Symptomatic of System politics in the UK?

I have no sympathy for Danczuk, and little for Reform UK, but will be interested to see how they go. Had Reform UK put up a better candidate, it might have gone close. As it is, I daresay that the white (English) vote will be split several ways.

I suppose that the Israelis thought that they owed Pollard something. After all, when he desperately appealed to the Israeli Embassy in Washington —when the FBI was on his tail— the Israeli Embassy guards were ordered to shut the gates and not let him back in. He was then immediately arrested by the FBI. He did 30 years in Federal custody, altogether (inc. 2 years of pre-trial detention).

“[Canadian] Justice Minister Arif Virani has defended a new power in the online harms bill to impose house arrest on someone who is feared to commit a hate crime in the future – even if they have not yet done so already.

The person could be made to wear an electronic tag, if the attorney-general requests it, or ordered by a judge to remain at home, the bill says.

Bill C-63 is designed to curb the proliferation of hate online, but it also establishes a new hate-crime offence, which would carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

Mr. Virani said the hate-crime offence would only be applied if coupled with another crime and the life sentence would only apply in the most serious of cases – not, for example, for mischief to a garage door.

Mr. Virani said the current bill followed studies of the experiences of other countries, including Britain, France and Germany, which have produced similar legislation. Some have had to reverse course after challenges and criticism.

Since it was published on Monday, some lawyers and constitutional experts have raised fears that Bill C-63 could chill free speech.

But experts including internet law professor Michael Geist have said even a threat of a civil complaint – with a lower burden of proof than a court of law – and a fine could have a chilling effect on freedom of expression.“

Look at what has happened in the UK. Material (comments, cartoons) are supposed to fall into unlawfulness only if “grossly” offensive. In theory, remarks, cartoons merely “offensive” are not unlawful, but in practice one finds (as in my own case last November) that once the police, CPS and courts think that XYZ is “offensive”, then XYZ becomes, almost automatically, “grossly offensive“, and the maker is then convicted accordingly (as I was).

Free speech has then been further chilled, or killed…

I had not previously heard of this person or of his crimes. It does beg the questions around Nature v. Nurture, in that the subject had been brutalized from an early age, firstly by his own parents, then by the juvenile “reform” system, then by other experiences, and finally by the state and Federal adult prison systems.

In other words, someone evidently monstrous, but at the same time someone made monstrous, arguably. It would be interesting to compare the life-stories of his several siblings.

I have a shrewd idea (or maybe not so shrewd— we shall see…) that “30p Lee” Anderson may have jettisoned the Conservative Party rather than the other way around. After all, the Con Party is staring down the barrel of an electoral meltdown which may finish off arguably the longest-surviving political party in the world.

The Conservative Party was looking at quite likely defeat in Anderson’s constituency, but now maybe not (if Anderson is reinstated). If Anderson is not reinstated, he may well be able to stay on as MP either as an Independent or, more likely, after having stood as Reform Party candidate. He now has real national profile.

The maverick MP has been suspended from being under the Conservative Party whip.

Naturally, I do not agree with his statement that London is “run by Muslims”. Sadiq Khan is from a Muslim background, but has been pretty much in the Jew-Zionist pocket for many years.

It would be more accurate to characterize Sadiq Khan as “anti-white”.

As to Anderson himself, I suggest that he is trying to bolster his position vis a vis the General Election expected later this year.

Until 2019, Ashfield had always been won by Labour since its inception in 1955, with one closely-run by-electoral exception in 1977. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashfield_(UK_Parliament_constituency)#Elections_in_the_2020s. “New Labour” and Gloria de Piero changed all that.

David Marquand, a former MP for Ashfield (1966-1977; he is still alive, at 89): “Originally a tentative supporter of Blair’s New Labour, he has since become a trenchant critic, arguing that “New Labour has ‘modernised’ the social-democratic tradition out of all recognition”, even while retaining the over-centralisation and disdain for the radical intelligentsia of the old “Labourite” tradition.” [Wikipedia]. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Marquand.

Marquand defected to the SDP and then was honourable enough to step down as MP, not contesting the by-election.

In fact, Marquand was himself rather intellectual:

He argued that this decline was caused by Britain’s failure to become a developmental state like France, Germany and Japan. In those countries state intervention had encouraged industrial development and had facilitated the necessary adjustments to competition. In fact, Ashfield is not quite as “safe Labour” as the history might suggest superficially. Gloria de Piero won in 2010 by a majority of under half a point (0.4%, 192 votes) from a LibDem.

While de Piero’s majority increased in 2015 (as the LibDems imploded), in 2017 she beat the Conservative candidate by less than one point (0.9%, 441 votes). An Ashfield Independent came third with over 9% of the vote.

In 2019, Lee Anderson won convincingly: 39.3% of the vote, followed in second (27.6%) by another “Ashfield Independent”, Jason Zadrozny [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Zadrozny], who has had a chequered political and personal history. In third place came Labour, with only 24.4%.

Zadrozny is going to contest the seat at GE 2024.

So far, apart from Anderson (who may or may not be standing as Conservative Party candidate, depending on whether he gets back the Conservative whip), only the Ashfield Independent and Reform UK are presently known to be likely to stand at GE 2024, but a full field is almost guaranteed. There may be a dozen or more candidates.

At first, I thought that Anderson could probably be written off as post-GE 2024 MP, but now am not so sure. He has now (whether by design or not) distanced himself from the unpopular Conservative leadership —and possibly from the equally-unpopular Conservative Party— is anti-EU, anti-migration invasion etc, and is now known nationwide. He must have at least a chance of retaining his seat. If he does, and if he also retains it as a “Conservative” MP, he might be one of 100 or even as few as 50 such MPs. Who knows what might then happen?“

It may be that Anderson would be better off electorally standing either for Reform UK or as Independent than he would be as a Conservative Party candidate. Voters like “celebrity”; look at how Caroline Lucas has built up her constituency vote at Brighton Pavilion over the years, and that despite Green Party candidates elsewhere generally losing their deposits with votes under 5%.

I happened to see the communique below from Laura Towler of Patriotic Alternative:

“Morning all. Bit of an update about Sam as he’s still under direction not to talk about his trial on social media.

He is being sentenced on Friday. There is a chance he will get a custodial sentence, but there is also the possibility he won’t. We are preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. It’s a weird feeling right now because we don’t know whether this will be our last week together for a while, but despite this Sam is in a good place. When you can hold your head up high and honestly say your intentions were good, and when you have the truth on your side, you can take whatever is thrown at you.

Sam has recorded a video that will be uploaded after Friday, sharing his thoughts and a message for you all. If he gets a custodial sentence, that will be how he speaks. If he walks away a free man, he will be able to post again.
