As I often reiterate (because many people assume, wrongly, that I believe in judicial harshness), I am generally not a “hanger and flogger”, but here we have an example of how things have slid into near-lawlessness.
When I was initially at the English Bar (early 1990s), it was a given that “breach of trust” cases of embezzlement, especially where the sums were substantial, would normally result in incarceration, yet here we have a case involving over half a million pounds, continuing for quite a while (2+ years), and the defrauding of a medical practice but also 8 actual doctors, and the defendant gets a “suspended”…

The only aspect more severe is that that embezzler woman will have to pick up litter or do similar work for a few weeks, whereas I was excused any unpaid slave-labour.
My own sentence in 2024 (for telling the truth) was 15 “rehabilitation” “days” (in fact, each “day” was between 20 and 120 minutes, the average being about 30 minutes or so) with a young lady from the Probation Service, and a financial penalty of over £700 (about a third was crowdfunded).

It is true that there is a slide into lawlessness. I just had a look at the local newspaper here (coastal Hampshire/Dorset). A nursing employee who stole the bank card of a care home resident and used it— “avoided jail“; ex-“firefighter” who (online) intimidated a woman whom his son had raped, who also then assaulted paramedics etc and issued threats to kill the same woman, later excusing himself by reason of having been drunk— “suspended sentence“; etc etc.
Incidentally, it interests me that it (seems that it) was only after two policemen were killed that the local police got really active and started to arrest members of the local “chavscum” crime groups.

What the liars and perjurers of the “CAA” do not say in their tweet is that the defendant there is a lady of 78, with no previous convictions; they also omit the facts that, since February 2024 when she was arrested, the defendant developed dementia, as a result of which she was found unfit to stand trial.
The prosecutor (I presume from the Clown Prosecution Service, though it may have been one of the CAA’s abusive private prosecutions), however continued with “a trial of the facts” (I presume in the absence of the defendant), and a jury (half-witted, it seems), brought in a meaningless verdict of Guilty, after which the judge handed down an equally meaningless sentence— an absolute discharge!

A lady in her late seventies actually arrested for those rather mild tweets (probably about the sadistic slaughter being carried out by Israeli Jews in Gaza), but the trial only taking place 2.5 years later, a trial which was entirely meaningless, and served only to allow the “CAA” —proven liars whose sworn testimony has, on occasion, not been believed— to tweet as seen above.

Incidentally, I myself was on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 2001, en route from the UK to southern Turkey by car. It is a completely peaceful peninsula now. My wife and I stayed for a few days at Canakkale, on the other side of the Dardanelles Strait. You had to cross by a small ferry in those days; there is a large bridge now, a few miles away, and the empty dusty roads on the European side, with vast sunflower fields all around, once you leave the peninsula and are in Thrace proper, have been partly supplanted by a motorway or major highway.

Interesting to see how friendly the ordinary people are to the vloggers, and also to see all the young women strolling relaxedly around in twos and threes, or with family, many not wearing veils, or even headscarfs.

In late 1971, I was just 15, and had returned from a 3-week stay with a French couple who lived in the Rue de l’Arbalete in the 5th arrondisement of Paris, a Paris which, I think, does not exist any more.
I loved Crime of Passion, which I thought at the time might be an Anglo-French production. In fact, not. It was the kind of literate, not-boring, well-made drama never seen today, and of course had no performative blacks/gays/lesbians (etc), nor any virtue-signalling nonsense in the script.
Crime of Passion was an ATV production, and was based on actual cases in the French courts, in which, until 1976, a plea of crime passionel was an excuse legale in relation to a prosecution for homicide in circumstances where a husband had caught his wife in flagrante with a lover. A successful plea of crime passionel reduced the sentence very considerably (from death or life imprisonment in most cases, to a couple of years in prison or even complete acquittal, though the latter was rare.
The change of law in 1976 was part of a general updating of laws previously based on the Code Napoleon.
Hard to believe that the surviving 29 episodes (3 others having been wiped) of that series have never been put on VHS or DVD, or revived on one of the “nostalgia” TV channels.

Not an issue that affects me personally now, though it would do were I still living in the large country house of which I had a lease in the 2002-2004 period. That house had an oil central heating system so complicated that two engineers had to come from the Midlands, maybe Derby, to tell us how to set the controls on the control panel (in the cellars), a panel that looked like something out of an old sci-fi film, or Stingray.
The oil was delivered by road tanker once a month, and they pumped enough to fill the tanks, so the price varied depending on usage, i.e. on the season.
As to the cost (and bear in mind this was well over 20 years ago), one cold January I got a bill for oil, for the month, of not much less than £700. For today’s value, I suppose you would have to add on the cost of coal and logs for the open fires (another £100 at least), then more than double it. Make it £1,600. For one month. That did not even cover heating the whole house, just some bedrooms, drawing room. library, kitchen/morning room area, Victorian conservatory, and the inner hall. We closed off many sections, including the ballroom.
God knows what the actual cost today, and/or soon, might be.

The abuse of Newbon’s widow (abusive Newbon having killed himself rather than face the music) would not have troubled Lewis, of course. He was mentally and physically abusive to both his first wife and his second wife (that latter was one-time “Z-list” “celebrity” Caroline Feraday who, briefly, read the news on TV and local radio in the UK (about 25 years or more ago). His second marriage lasted only one year.
I cannot comment on Lewis’s third marriage, to Israel fanatic Mandy Blumenthal. Of course, Lewis is a physical wreck now anyway.
The SRA has been censured for: ignoring warning signs, failing to identify risks, relying on info from solicitors under investigation, inadequate protection of vulnerable clients, poor decisions, etc.

The old East Prussia, and the old or former Konigsberg (now Kaliningrad) no longer exists.
