So far, we have seen the not very exciting Reform UK get recent opinion poll ratings of between 9% and 15%. Not enough to get any seats if spread out evenly across the country.
However, reading the latest reaction to the absurd “National Service” idea floated by Sunak (you can read my own thoughts about that on the blog for yesterday and the previous day), it occurs to me that Reform UK might, just, do better than the polls suggest.
We have seen, in the past, people too ashamed or embarrassed to say to polling staff that they support the Conservative Party; maybe that is true here too, and that a proportion of the “Don’t Know” responders (recently often a plurality of those responding) are really secret Reform UK supporters, or secret nationalist or semi-nationalist supporters, or just secretly angry people.
That may be completely wrong, and we shall only know on 5 July 2024, but I could imagine quite a few people, either on the 4th or, before that, when filling out postal voting forms, thinking, “so **** it!” and voting Reform UK out of anger, frustration, or a wish to hurt the Conservative Party clowns, or the System in general.

The penalties for offences of that sort (cruelty to animals) have to be revisited by Parliament, increased markedly, and the courts need to be firm in applying them.

“A serious government would have looked at Brexit and recognised the necessity for economic and social reform. The first lesson should have been that mass immigration cannot be a substitute for skills training, and that open borders is not a sustainable answer to labour shortages.

That is why the Tory party is dying. They were handed a massive majority and a mandate for change and they did precisely nothing with it. They wasted our votes and our time. They squandered every opportunity and walked away from every fight. Instead of taking the cue for radical change, they doubled down on all the worst aspects of centrist consensus politics on everything from immigration to energy, in lockstep with the EU as though we never voted to leave.
Immigration is now out of control, rents have skyrocketed, energy prices are insane, university degrees are next to worthless, and now they’re inflicting heat pumps and EVs on us when nobody can afford either, nobody even wants them, and we don’t have the electricity to power them.
Now we find ourselves with nobody worth voting for, and a decrepit opposition party set to inherit power by accident of numbers, and virtually nobody thinks it will be an improvement.

It would be a mistake to assume that all Jews, even all Israelis, are behind the continuing devastation in Gaza. My own guess is that most would have been satisfied by a week or so of targeted, albeit bloody, attacks in retaliation for the stunning surprise attack by Hamas forces in southern Israel in October.
There was a film, several years ago, interviewing former chiefs of Israeli intelligence and security; they were far less gung-ho than Netanyahu and his clique, or the malicious and unpleasant Jew-Zionists one sees or hears of in places such as London, Leeds, New York etc.
By the by, I keep wondering whether the Israeli Government, like F.D. Roosevelt before Pearl Harbor, knew of the October attack by Hamas before it happened, but let it go ahead in order to have to popular support —initially— for what is now happening in —in the Israeli case— Gaza, which amounts to an attempt to occupy Gaza and drive out its 2M inhabitants.
That may read like “conspiracy theory”, but so many of such theories turn out to be just true in the end. Why did it take Israeli forces several hours, in some cases 12 hours, to deploy to the site of the October attack? Israel is small. Tel Aviv is only 44 miles from the border of Gaza, and maybe 60 miles from the site of the Hamas attack in October.
When I was a practising barrister based in Exeter, in SW England (2002-2008), I lived in a country house about 4 miles north of Launceston (Cornwall) and almost exactly 45 miles west from my Exeter chambers. Same distance as Tel Aviv to Gaza. One day, I made the journey, door to door, in only 35 mins. I am sure that the supposedly elite Israeli forces can deploy in at least similar time (by road or helicopter), if they are so ordered. So why did they apparently take many hours in October?

I opposed HS2 from the beginning. Why? Because first of all, HS2 was misconceived. High-speed rail is OK for countries which are very elongated and/or very large; it suits or would suit countries such as Chile, Japan, Russia, China, Australia, the USA, Canada, and even France (which after all is 2.5x the size of the UK and has important cities in all four “corners”, so to speak; indeed, in all directions.
The UK is only elongated and long if you go from, say Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands, or at least London to the major cities of Scotland. London-Edinburgh is about 400 miles (compare that to London-Penzance: about 300 miles). London to Inverness is over 550 miles.
In other words, HS2 only makes any sense at all if it goes either to Cornwall or Scotland. However, neither of those routes are being proceeded with.
The route London-Leeds was also axed. Now, it seems that even the section Birmingham-Manchester may be abandoned. That would leave only London-Birmingham, which would take 52 minutes instead of 1 hour 21 minutes on the present fastest trains. In other words, a saving of only 29 minutes. Passengers will also, for a long time, have to go to Old Oak Common in NW London in order to catch the train.
I also opposed —and still oppose— HS2 on environmental grounds: destruction of ancient woodland etc.
A further reason to oppose HS2 is that the money expended could have been deployed to improving the existing rail network, or extending it.
Finally, I have a problem with (in effect) the whole country being taxed in order that a tiny minority can travel faster. I felt the same about Concorde, despite its technical achievements.

For once, I agree with Maugham. Yes, the “licence fee” is not called a tax, but it is a tax by any other name, and people can and do go to prison for non-payment (which is a disgrace). I think that that mixture of snobbery, reverse snobbery, chip-on-shoulder resentment, and hypocrisy comes out in her pronouncements at times, such as her notorious “white van man” and “St. George’s flag” comments.
Like many people, I want the Conservative Party to be annihilated, certainly electorally (it’s a start, anyway) but, in our rigged binary electoral system, that does mean a massive Labour landslide, an “elected” Starmer-Labour dictatorship that might make that of Blair-Brown look mild.

The idea, put about by well-publicized “enablers”, that a person can be fed on about £5 a week, is just nonsense. Even leaving aside the need for a balanced diet, with many vitamins and minerals, a pack of cheapest pasta is (I think) about £1, which might last someone a couple of days. The cheapest sauce would be at least £1, even if you made it last a week. That leaves £3 for everything else. Bread for a week must cost £1 if not £2. What else could you get? A jar of peanut butter? The “average joe” may “know” that there was “a” Russian Revolution, but what he [thinks he] “knows”, he knows only because somewhere in his mind is a misunderstood or part-understood conflation of biased and simplistic school lessons, and a general milieu in film and other msm output of to the effect that “the Tsars and aristocracy, living in luxury, burdened the workers and peasants, who then overthrew them and supported Lenin and the Bolsheviks“.

Few know that the “real” Russian Revolution, as such, was in February 1917 (March 1917 in the new calendar), and that that Revolution was itself overthrown in October (old calendar) 1917, by a coup d’etat or palace revolution planned by Lenin and the Bolsheviks, and carried out as a military operation; it was a putsch in one or two cities of a vast empire, not a popular uprising, as many now think, and as the Soviet system propagandized via the films of Eisenstein.

I was told, at second-hand, a story about Lenin in exile. The only thing that gives me pause is that many such online nuisances… trolls, wastes of space, whatever… make a big noise about “giving up the Twitter account”, then slink back a while later. Many trolls have done that in recent years.
In fact Twitter is a waste of time now. Most of the interesting accounts (such as mine, if I say so myself) are gone, in my case because a pack of Jews conspired together to make (as they do) malicious complaint about my tweets. That was in 2018, at which time I had about 3,000 Twitter followers (equivalent to maybe 6,000 today, had the account remained), whereas I see that “Slatfascists” still only has 2,358, three and a half years later. For those who did not read it earlier, the tweet said that “Slatfascists” was leaving Twitter temporarily or permanently because Twitter would not expel all the accounts he (daily) “reported”, who were, he alleged, all “Nazis”.
I always thought that “Slatfascists” had to be at least part-Jew. His obsessions, his behaviour etc…

Even on the lowest likely figure, that is at least 100,000 a year (and on the highest, maybe as many as 400,000), just from those crossing the Channel in an armada of rubber boats.
