Another nail in the coffin of free speech in the UK. The nail may have been hammered in by the police and Crown Prosecution Service, but behind them stood, as so often, (((the usual suspects))).
I never listened to the podcast in question, mainly because I have no patience with long discussions which (arguably) lead nowhere, but whatever he and his guests said, there was no real reason to censor him, let alone to imprison him. Now, unless there is any successful appeal on conviction or sentence, he will be actually incarcerated for well over a year.
The case of “Sven Longshanks” does not stand alone. It is part of a whole campaign being waged —mainly— by the Jewish/Zionist lobby in the UK.
“Lawfare”.
Internet “radio” podcasts seem to be a major, perhaps the major, target. There have been a number of podcasters prosecuted and even imprisoned over the past couple of years.
Strange to think that Britain used to be known as almost the home and centre of freedom of expression in the world, along with the USA and the British white dominions.
I hope that “Sven Longshanks” has friends or comrades who will assist him while he is incarcerated, send him money via the official mechanism, and keep in communication with him. We should always support “the men behind the wire”.
Funny. The old woman is a nuisance on the one hand, but on the other hand someone who is keeping her immediate neighbourhood safe, rather like the volunteers in parts of the socialist world before 1989 (and, indeed, in National Socialist Germany in the 1930s and early 1940s).
[badge of a “Druzhinnik”, a Soviet local law-and-order volunteer]
As a matter of fact, if that old woman lived near me, I might have avoided having one wheel (yes, I too am puzzled) stolen from my car in the middle of the night not so long ago, a theft which the police not only failed to prevent or “detect” (despite evidential material existing) but also in which they had very little interest at all. In a word, useless.
That video clip reminds me of a personal reminiscence, from a time when the police were possibly more numerous and certainly more effective.
In the early 1980s, my then girlfriend drove (with me as passenger) from London to Reigate, Surrey, where my parents lived. Her vehicle was an ex-Post Office van, a Ford Transit with side windows, which she intended (never happened) to turn into a camper van for herself and her small children. It was part-yellow, part-red-brown, having been half-painted over by the previous owner. It looked rather scruffy, to be honest.
While the van was parked outside my parents’ house, on a driveway visible from the local road, there was a ring at the door. My mother went to the door. A polite, smart-looking young policeman was there, uniformed and wearing a cap. Incidentally, no beard or visible tattoos, unlike some of the scruffy police you see today. His police car was outside in the road.
My girlfriend cowered behind a pillar (thinking that she had probably done something wrong with the van) as the policeman explained to my mother that the reason why he was inquiring was “because that vehicle does not seem to fit the neighbourhood“! By today’s standards, incredible. I doubt that it would happen these days, anywhere in the UK. Surrey Police, then, was a very efficient force. Almost a Swiss level of efficiency (and curiosity).
Not only fear, but people are imperfect— that is where law, or prevention, comes in.

(((Simons))) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paula_Simons]. However, it seems that, perhaps contrary to the second tweet, she opposes criminalization of so-called “holocaust” “denial” (historical examination and revision).
“After reading Anne Frank’s diaries as a young girl, Sen. Simons feared that one day the SS would invade her house and take her away. In a Jew-ish family that escaped Nazi Germany, the Holocaust was something close to Sen. Simons’ heart. Yet despite her family’s trauma, Sen. Simons argues that Holocaust denial should not be criminalized, especially not through the Budget Implementation Act (C-19). Instead, she believes that the government should focus more on pressing the platforms that spread this hate speech to be held accountable”
[YouTube]
Note the early-ingrained hysteria— that the SS would “invade her house and take her away“, rather unlikely in Canada, and in the late 1960s or early 1970s, about 25 years or more after the end of the Second World War. Did she really fear that? I doubt it; either she was a very stupid child or she is not quite telling the truth now.
So anyway, in fact she —apparently— does not want criminal sanction, but wants to censor and repress historical study and revision another way, via backstairs manipulation and pressuring of online fora and platforms.
Incidentally, contrary to what the YouTube blurb says, her family (grandparents) did not “escape” National Socialist Germany, but left Russia for Canada, probably before the First World War. She is now 58, born 1964, so her grandparents were born, presumably, in the early 20thC, and in Russia:
“Simons was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, one of two children born to Norman Wolfe and Oli (née Dyck) Simons.[1] Her father, a lawyer, was of Jewish descent; her paternal grandparents had immigrated from Russia and settled in Round Hill, Alberta where he was raised.“
[Wikipedia].
Do “they” ever tell the truth?
Strange that she uses her mother’s surname.
Her occupation is noted not as “politician” but “journalist“. I see that, as in the UK with the House of Lords, senators in Canada are appointed, not elected. NWO/ZOG puppet Trudeau appointed Paula Simons in 2018.
Housing now regarded as a “resource”, to be parcelled out by the State and/or local government bureaucrats according to some kind of “woke” tick-box exercise. Older people, English people, childless people, single people— all “bad”, but migrant-invaders, blacks, browns, “young people” (most of whom will soon be —or already are— non-white), especially any non-English with half a dozen children— all “good”.
Already compulsory in Netherlands for any renovations. It's a very slippery slope, and we're just starting to slide.
The Jews (eg on Twitter), meaning the Jew-Zionist lobby, are now screaming that this woman of 97, and who, during the early 1940s was a teenager, and secretary to the commander of a German camp, should be imprisoned, executed, tortured etc.
As to the Jews, the facade falls away very quickly once they start calling for blood against someone perceived as a race-enemy. They, after all, still celebrate the downfall and death of some of their enemies thousands of years after the events in question occurred. Most of their religious holidays are of such a nature. Google them.
Will those who were secretaries aged 18 and who worked at, say, Los Alamos, or at US and UK air bases, be tried because of what happened at Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Tokyo, or for that matter during the Allied air bombing campaign against Germany, in which possibly 800,000 people, mostly civilians, were killed?
I doubt it.
A care worker in England is paid on average £8,000 a year less than NHS staff with the same skills. Yet pay pressures facing social care are untenable. Fundamentally the system of social care is broken. https://t.co/9GRUnKhS2Q
It is clear that the NHS and the social care system need to be one system, seamlessly operating. What stands in the way of that? Funding, yes, but also the vested interests in the NHS. This is a problem that grew out of the way in which the NHS was set up; also, the ageing population.

All the same, as of today, 643 mugs continue to send “Bootstrap Cook” between £3.50 and £44 each month. Do the maths…
I can only conclude that either the 643 mugs are living in cloistered conditions, where they are sheltered from the news, or that they are masochistic, and enjoy being taken advantage of. The same sort of people probably support the migration-invasion, and will vote (fake) “Labour” even if its policies are a carbon copy of those of the equally-fake “Conservatives”.
Oh dear Jack Monroe's been caught out again. Another outburst of lies while the tipjar remains conveniently open. Perhaps some more mugs can sling her a tenner out their PIP again. https://t.co/brvfgjJ1tT
Oh look. Here's Jack Monroe's house valuation. "Today's price = £686,000". What's the market rent on that? Average yield about 4.2% = £2,401pcm. But she's bitching about £1,650pcm. https://t.co/sA64jA91sSpic.twitter.com/DMd02XfBpy
I may be wrong, but my opinion is that the msm has all but “cancelled” the “Bootstrap Cook” now. She has just become too obviously “dodgy”. I would hazard a guess that she will not be much if at all on TV or in the Press in the future.
Having said that, in her shoes I would be not too dissatisfied that 643 mugs are still sending me a total of between £2,500 and £30,000 a month. In the well-worn phrase, I wish! Also, it seems from tweets read that she has inheritance expectations, possibly in the millions, down the line.

🔴 Fears of new invasion as Putin and Lukashenko to form joint task force on Ukraine border
Comments by Russia’s staunchest ally is closest indication yet that Belarus will deploy troops against their neighbour
Alexander Lukashenko told a security meeting he and the Russian president last weekend agreed to bring their troops together “due to tensions on the western border" of Belarushttps://t.co/pDQXZMEcsIpic.twitter.com/NkPrQEjbHs
My view has been that the Russians fluffed what could and should have been a swift and unstoppable coup de main in February 2022. The Russian General Staff, GRU, and large parts of the Russian Army were shown to be incompetent, while their allies (Chechens mainly) were again proven to be brutal and out of control.
Also, the Russian side was unable to win or even seriously compete in the information and propaganda war. The “Ukrainian” (Jew-Zionist, mainly) side have had 8 months of uncritical support from the “Western” msm, even down to the extent that Kiev is no longer referred to as “Kiev” on “Western” TV or radio, but (e.g. on the BBC) as “Keev” (written version being “Kyiv“).
I had assumed that the Russian plan, once their absurdly half-hearted initial “invasion” stalled, would be to seize the Black Sea and Sea of Azov littoral as far inland as possible (which they have largely done, though stopping far short of the Odessa region), and to press up the eastern side of the Dnieper to some point southeast of Kiev, while also expanding west from Kharkov and advancing north from the Donbass, all three advances meeting southeast of Kiev, and so not only occupying most of eastern Ukraine but also laying the ground for a serious advance on Kiev from south, east and north.
If the above was the Russian plan, it now lies in tatters. The Kiev regime side, pumped up with Western weaponry and money, has advanced, and the Russian side withdrawn. The forces of the Kiev regime, having taken towns occupied previously by Russian forces, have executed civilians known to be pro-Russia and/or anti-war.
The recent attacks on the Nordstream2 pipeline and the Kerch Bridge (and an airfield in Kaluga region) betoken a serious escalation by the Western/NATO/NWO/Kiev side.
In the contemporary phrase, though, “we are where we are”. So where now?
We have just now seen Russian attacks mainly directed at electrical-generation and heating plants. These mark a change in strategy.
It seems that the Russian strategy as it now stands is to weaken the morale of the —so far largely untouched— populations in the large Ukrainian cities under control of the Kiev regime— Lvov, Odessa, Kharkov, and Kiev itself, among others.
I think that Putin was holding back from a really large-scale targeting of the Ukrainian population in order to leave the door open for negotiation, but the Jew Zelensky has recently made it clear that no negotiation will happen while Putin remains in place; also, that sovereignty over the Donbass, Crimea etc is non-negotiable. An “ultra” position, if you like.
That leaves only continuing war as a likelihood.
Winter is coming. Without heating or electricity, the living conditions of the Ukrainian civilian population may become dire. War is cruel, especially this type of attritional war.
The Zelensky regime continues to exist only by reason of the tens or hundreds of billions of US dollars (and devalued UK pounds) being funnelled to Zelensky’s apparat, together with advanced weaponry.
The Russian strategy is not so much one of weakening Ukraine economically. The Ukrainian economy is dead or dormant anyway. It is a question of sapping the civilian (and so also the military) morale until the moment is ripe to launch a killer blow, meaning either a larger-scale invasion directed mainly at Kiev, or the use of tactical nuclear weapons to literally blow Zelensky off his perch.
Positionally, the Belarus situation is interesting. Kiev is little more than 60 miles from the border with Belarus.
If the Russian forces can take Kiev at some point, the war will have reached a tipping-point both strategically and in terms of morale etc. The Zelensky regime will have been decapitated in terms of geography, and the Kiev-regime forces in eastern Ukraine cut off.

Even for someone as cynical as I am about the UK’s totally broken pseudo-democratic system, the idea that the people of Britain can be put through such pain because a stupid woman who only became an MP in the first place on her back is “Prime Minister”, is unbelievable. Especially since said “ho” is only Prime Minister (in name) because 80,000 mostly elderly and comfortably-off Conservative Party members voted for her; even so, the vote was close. If Indian “clever boy” Sunak had not cheated the pensioners last year by suspending the “triple lock” on State Pensions, he would have clinched it.
As for Old Etonian woolly-head, Kwarteng, he takes the price of so-called “diversity” to a whole new level.
Short of a “grassy knoll” situation, how can this crazed dim woman and her cronies be removed?
I read that there are moves afoot to change the rules for removal of a Conservative Party leader, to shorten the 12-month time limit. That will take months, if it happens at all.
Alternatively, if Con Party MPs refuse to vote for Government measures, Truss might have to resign, but “have to” is not quite what it seems. She might simply dig in. I read her as the type of careerist, self-publicizing woman who will hang on as long as possible to the office, the pay, the perks, and the fact of being simply being the number one figure, even if powerless and widely despised.
One thing is for sure, the Conservative Party is toast from now on, unless it can find a semi-presentable leader by —at latest— Christmas 2023.
I think that abstention or protest voting will be more likely than a huge move by people to Labour. The huge opinion poll leads now being seen may persist, in our rigged binary system.
The UKIP debacle of 2015 (12% of votes but no seats) has put off many dissident conservative-“nationalist” voters, and the treachery of Farage in 2019 re. his Brexit Party has surely finished off that “Conservative Plus Plus” populism, at least in any significant way.
As we know, what matters, usually, is what happens in a few dozen very marginal seats. That is where the Conservative Party’s main weakness lies. Seats such as those former “Red Wall” constituencies “up North”.
I am sure that the old “Red Wall” can never be put back together, by reason of societal changes. Instead of the “proletariat”— miners, dockers, railway workers, steelworkers— you have call centre workers, retail workers etc, the “precariat”. Volatile voters, who might vote Labour one year, Conservative the next, and (?) UKIP, Brexit Party (or whatever) the year after that.
Still, the former “Red Wall”, which voted Con in 2019, will probably swing back to Labour, if only in the short term, meaning in 2023/2024. That alone is enough to cook the Conservative goose.
If the Conservative Party continues at 20%-25% in the polls, then it will not win any marginal seats, and will almost certainly lose seats not usually marginal.
Much depends on what happens to people’s lifestyles between now and the end of 2024, the last time when a general election can be held. If the Conservative MPs cannot hold the Truss feet to the fire in a major way, Conservative Party support may “trickle down” the drain even further…
Sadly, there is no social national party to engage with the people. The little joke-parties, such as For Britain and Britain First, have disappeared from view, and recent by-elections have been embarrassing for the few sort-of social-national candidates (eg Jayda Fransen) who have tried to put themselves forward. Indeed, the mere fact that I have even bothered to mention Jayda Fransen etc shows how empty the social-national space is in the UK.
That is my view too. If the Scottish people want to be nominally “independent” (if that means anything when Scotland would still be part of NATO, a reconnected EU, and the international banking system), then fine, just go (and with my genuine blessings), but in that event Scotland will almost certainly have to accept far lower living standards. Fact.
In fact, it seems to be that many Scots want, not “independence” but simply greater autonomy, meaning freedom from Westminster. See, below, the latest YouGov poll re. retaining the Monarchy:
Would Scots want to keep the monarchy in an independent Scotland?
Evenly divided. In a sense, that poll surprises me; I should have expected at least a small majority to be hostile to the idea of retaining the Monarchy.
Of course it is deliberate. That WEF video a couple of years back told us what they were going to do. The puppet show at Westminster is only a distraction for the ignorant masses.
The pharmaceutical deep state and their complicit medical operatives have lost the confidence of an entire population, Wittingly or not. Another win for the well poisoners.
I remember when I was waiting for a prescription in the chemist next to the hospital. There were 6 of us waiting. I was the only English speaking person. I was also the only person who paid for their prescription.
The destruction of the West by any means features heavily in their handbook. Usury, biological warfare, starvation all tried and tested within isolated scenarios. Now the cabal have gone global.
Piers Morgan might be called just an idiot (after all, he is an uneducated and uncultured man— https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piers_Morgan), but at the same time he is a chosen —or should that be “chosen by the (((chosen)))”— System mouthpiece on the msm.
People such as Morgan are pushing the idea that “Ukraine” (Kiev regime) can “win” this war. How? By NATO etc giving Zelensky long-range weapons with which to hit Moscow and Petersburg? Does Morgan himself really believe that Russia will just sit still if Kiev-regime forces capture all of the Donbass (and also Crimea, where 95% of the population is Russian)? The slaughter and terror likely to be inflicted on the Russian and also pro-Russian Ukrainian populations by the Kiev regime would be terrible.
Strange, I did not see or hear Morgan oppose the large-scale bombings (and huge civilian casualties) in Afghanistan and Iraq by American and UK forces. Maybe not so strange— Morgan’s brother is or was an Army officer of field rank, who served in at least one of those theatres; possibly both.
Reverting to the idea that Ukraine can “win”, what would that look like?
Let us say that Russia withdraws all forces from Crimea (Russian territory since the time of Peter the Great —and before then Tatar/Turkic— with the exception of the decades since 1953);
Let us say that Russia withdraws from the Donbass etc. What then?
Then Ukraine (Kiev regime) would be built up by NATO with huge new weapons influxes, possibly even tactical nuclear. Russia would be forced to agree “reparations” with Kiev (with NATO standing behind) and, down the line, Russia would be forced into a position of subservience to (((Western))) interests even worse than happened under Yeltsin in the 1990s. Russia was on its knees then. I saw it myself.
The more I look at it, the more I think it quite likely that Russia and the Western powers (NWO) will eventually end up in a strategic nuclear exchange that will change all of our lives irretrievably. If so, a large part of the blame and guilt will rest with a warmongering Western msm; people such as Piers Morgan. He may eventually reflect on that, if it happens and if he survives.
I see from his Wikipedia entry that Morgan has his main base not in the UK but in Los Angeles, though he has properties in both London and Sussex as well; maybe elsewhere too.
Sadly for Rachel “@frangrantfeline”, the person with whom she wanted to speak (@BRLMatter) seems to have been removed from Twitter. Another example of System/ZOG censorship and repression?
This criminal government plans to change regulations to make untested #vaccines for Coronavirus compulsory, and more. They're hoping people will really notice this 'consultation' so they can say "you were asked & no-one objected. Well, we do!https://t.co/KSoj0LapF1
I think so too, but it is a long time since I practised at the Bar, and I was certainly never a specialist in the construction of statute law, or in the validity of “advice” or regulations purportedly made under secondary law and/or primary law.
Thanks @AllisonPearson. The key part of the interview is also transcribed on the’Lockdown Sceptics’ site. It is very powerful. I hope the Courts listen to@this acute legal mind. https://t.co/dYObpQfO3U
Indeed, the muzzles are starting to carpet the cityscape, and will soon be annoying whales, dolphins etc, already struggling to cope with the vast quantities of hand sanitiser now dribbling into the oceans. https://t.co/hMCv6igNfC
I have no difficulty with those who choose to wear these things. Believe what you like @_f_a_l_s_a_f_a_ .My complaint is against those who would force me and others to do so. Why is this simple point, that it is about *compulsion*, so hard to get across? https://t.co/P0ywl37F2n
Peter Hitchens on the ridiculous doubling down. But they *could* have claimed a victory in the summer, and the gullible would have let them. This feels now more like a blinkered, bunker mentality, an obsession. Like abandoned japanese soldiers, they can’t bear the war being over. pic.twitter.com/litHw2FpNe
Al 'Boris' Johnson is like a schoolboy trapped in a lie whose consequences grow worse and worse – and it is harder and harder for him to admit it. https://t.co/Uj5uGx6lNP
Quite. Also, while we are on the subject of American (government) behaviour, I have been struck by the hypocrisy of “the West” over the events in Belarus.
AsI have blogged previously, Belarus is, in effect, a dictatorship, though a far better one than many which the West supports with words and arms (inter alia, Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar), not to mention China.
I daresay that there is discontent in Belarus, arising mainly from economic conditions, as well as those factors arising from relative lack of political freedom.
Having said that, the Western msm has been overplaying the “brutal tyranny” stuff. I hear on radio, see on TV, read about the repression of the discontent. Some people obviously have been badly treated, beaten etc. However, I also heard that some of those detained, and some who were ill-treated, were in fact released within hours, in some case a day or so, of having been detained.
In addition, some of the protesters themselves have admitted that the Belarus KGB and police were unwilling, generally speaking, to hit or brutalize women and old people. They obviously have some moral or ethical principles. European standards.
Compare that to how the USA often treats those whom it detains or abducts: “waterboarding”, i.e. cruel torture (in one case done dozens of times a day to a prominent prisoner, for reasons of sadism); hooding for hours, days, even weeks; cruel restraint techniques; use of attack dogs etc.
The names of the American “facilities” or concentration camps (those not still secret) are notorious: Guantanamo, Bagram, Abu Ghraib. Things were and perhaps are done there that have not been claimed even of the Soviet GULAG system, or during the German rule over Eastern Europe in the early 1940s.

Actually @snarkydebastard , @johnnymercuk is in the right party – a Blairite rabble who don't even understand the left-wing policies they were browbeaten into adopting by Blair and the BBC. https://t.co/QWYl9ntuYF
Most ex-professional soldiers (in peacetime) who become MPs turn out to be useless.
Unsurprising you have no idea who Peter Hitchens is. He is socially conservative which you lot abandoned at some point between Maggie and letting the police take a knee.
The medical claims for masks are weak and not backed by RCTs. The U.K. govt itself admits this. The analogy is about *compulsion*Mask opponents regard them as a forced affirmation of support for a policy they oppose. Grasp that and you’ll get it. https://t.co/zHFh0khuE2
To me, who was in Australia (Mosman/Cremorne, Sydney, NSW) for 2-3 years as a child of 10-13 (1967-69), it is incredible to see what a police state Australia has become. When I was there, the whole country had only 12 million people (it’s 25 million now). It was a white European-origined population, mostly of British ancestry. Now, very mixed. Result? You see it…
It occurs to me that Australia is being used as a laboratory, and its people as lab rats. Mixed population now (they have even imported Africans!); then made to fear “the virus”, with strict “lockdowns” and facemask police state-ism and all that nonsense.
Meanwhile, Australia has entered its first economic recession for about 35 years…
Actually deaths peaked on 8th April, @parsot , too soon for measures which were announced on the evening of March 23 to be the cause. https://t.co/4Ul2zELihb
Are you sure, @sirMustard? Most Tory social, educational and family policy is basically Eurocommunist, and indistinguishable from its Blairite original.Tory MPs these days are politically illiterate lobby fodder, clueless about their own party’s aims. https://t.co/isbnoxdJdo
My appearance on BBC Radio 4's 'Broadcasting House' to discuss the Covid issue with Professor Linda Bauld and Paddy O'Connell : https://t.co/20pxegV3I6
Here is a very useful site for those who think that the Covid-19 outbreak has been exceptional in modern times. Full of corrective facts. What us exceptional is the excessive government response.https://t.co/fdusp3eULW
Why? Because the msm is basically controlled or very strongly influenced by the NWO, ZOG, and the associated Jewish lobby. That’s why…
“The Government has no legal right to impose the severe and miserable restrictions on our lives with which it has wrecked the economy, brought needless grief to the bereaved and the lonely and destroyed our personal liberty.“
“This is the verdict of one of the most distinguished lawyers in the country, the retired Supreme Court Judge Lord Sumption.
He said last week in a podcast interview: ‘I don’t myself believe that the Act confers on the Government the powers that it has purported to exercise.’”
“He was referring to the Public Health Act of 1984, the basis for almost all the sheaves of increasingly hysterical decrees against normal life which the Health Secretary Matt Hancock has issued since March. I promise you that it is not usual for a retired senior judge to use such language in public.
This 1984 Act was drawn up mainly to give local magistrates the power to quarantine the sick.
Nothing in it remotely justifies these astonishing moves – house arrest, travel restrictions, harsh limits on visiting family members, interference with funerals and weddings, closure of churches, compulsory muzzles, bans on assembly and protest.
English law just does not allow an Act of Parliament to be stretched so far.” [Peter Hitchens, quoting Lord Sumption, Daily Mail].
…and just in case you still imagine that you live in a “free country”, the Daily Mail has tipped the wink to its readers: “Sorry we are not currently accepting comments on this article.” Quite. That would be going too far, would it not? After all, some of the comments would be about ZOG and NWO, and even “the Great Reset” etc…

I have always found the SNP idea of Scottish “independence” odd. Free Scotland from Westminster and England, but not from supranational bodies such as the EU, NATO (probably), the international banking matrix, or the UN.
Also, what kind of nationalism is it that says that a Pakistani born or even simply living in, say, Glasgow, is more “Scottish” than a white European, say English but with Scottish or part-Scottish ancestry, and who may be living in England, maybe only on the border at Berwick on Tweed?
If Scotland departs, then it will be considerably poorer than it now is. Money is not everything, true, but the only benefit I can see to Independence is the right to stop mass immigration etc, and the SNP policies indicate that their intention is the opposite.
Having said that, if the majority of Scots want to pull away from the Union, then I say go with good wishes, so long as you do not become an enemy state.
Thoughts about the public mood in the UK as a government of clowns tries to act like a conclave of petty tyrants (forget “statesmen”)
We have seen the government of clowns first frighten the public out of its skin, then beg members of that public to return to work (muzzled on trains and buses), and we have seen all the other contradictory policies of a government that obviously has no idea of what it is doing; abetted by a non-Opposition that really just echoes the Government.
We also see much about how many people have got used to not going to work because paid as much or nearly as much (and in net terms, maybe more) to stay home and work online, or furloughed (paid by State benefit). Now we see others than Peter Hitchens telling people off for staying home etc, when the real culprits are the Cabinet of Boris-idiot, the ludicrously-misnamed “SAGE” committee, most MPs, and the compliant msm.
The fact is that the economy is crashing to a halt or at least a low point, all so that a virus which is not killing people now, can be confronted (and so that the Government is not exposed as totally incompetent).
Today, msm reports are that 3,300 people tested positive for “the virus”, and the number that died from it was…5. Not 500, not 50, but 5.
Can we get some daily stats for those dying of cancer each day? Or heart disease? Or the daily economic impact of each sector remaining closed because of COVID? Not a COVID nanny state please. #perspective#economicrecovery
Is there any point at which people will say “OK, the assault our basic liberties has gone too far now”. Or are we saying if it can help save people from Covid it’s a price worth paying. And if we are saying that, why should it stop at Covid. There will always be other threats.
“Matt Hancock does not deny that Operation Moonshot is set to cost a whopping £100bn – almost half the NHS budget”. Someone needs to get a grip of this lunacy. Fast.
The reality is we only have two choices. Return to some kind of normal, and accept infections and deaths will increase. Or lockdown, and accept economic collapse. But we don’t want to make that choice. So we’re fantasising we can be like Kirk in the Kobayashi Maru scenario.
Meanwhile, The Sun reports: “The Duchess of Cornwall visits training centre where trials are underway to see if dogs could detect coronavirus”. We’ve basically flipped as a nation haven’t we.
Where are the public on this? I detected (look at my blogs posts from as long ago as April or even March) that the public mood was by no means gung-ho to return to work etc, even discounting the fear factor so incessantly whipped up by the government.
My view was and still is that people would like a better way of organizing the work-life balance. Less work, or less frenetic work, more leisure or at least other, more personal work, nearer to home.
I have, in earlier blog posts, postulated the idea of “a society of measure” to set against both the existing (pre-virus) frenetic workaholic society and also against the 1960s idea of the “society of leisure”.
In practical terms, that could mean people working fewer hours per week, or the same number of hours per week but on fewer days, such as 10 hours a day for 4 days per week, or even 13 hours per day for 3 days per week, leaving 3-4 days per week for other activity.
My view is that there should be one day a week when all or almost all shops etc are shut. That creates rhythm in the society.
A start must also be made with Basic Income, even if at first that Income does not cover even all basic necessities.
I think that the public, as individuals and families, are ready to consider other forms of societal organization. If paid work (talking about persons employed by others) occupies 3-4 days per week, and if a measure of Basic Income exists, people will be free to start businesses of their own in the remaining 2-3 days (with 1 day as “day of total leisure”).
This is not just pie in the sky. J.K. Rowling has written about how it was only the relatively more generous “welfare” arrangements of the 1990s that enabled her to sit in cafes writing Harry Potter. It was not that more money was given, though that might also have been true in real terms, but that she was not harried by DWP staff constantly (as her equivalent would now be under a system which was made far harsher by the part-Jap Iain “Duncan” Smith and the Jew “lord” Freud and others).
Because J.K. Rowling was not harried by petty bureaucrats, she was able to write her first bestselling book, which has created a huge industry for this country: books, films, spinoffs.
My sense is that people generally want a society which is less pressured.
As for the “measures” taken by government, most people are now rather sceptical, but the constant msm propaganda (esp. but not only on the BBC) is keeping some fear instilled too.
Good on you Claire, @fox_claire This is a classic Bonhoeffer moment. Anyone who abandons Assange now should not be surprised if they themselves are defenceless in the unpleasant years to come. https://t.co/R7uS4Ve6Ks
I have no idea whether Johnny Mercer had some decent intentions when he applied for selection as a Parliamentary candidate but it is surely clear now that he is basically a woodentopped moneygrubber and a waste of space.
