Diary Blog, 21 June 2023, with some thoughts about “narcissism”, “Jack Monroe”, and a personal memory

“Jack Monroe”, “narcissism”, and narcissists

I had missed that. It seems that there is now a template for suing “Jack Monroe” in the County Court. I wonder whether many people will be doing that.

Still no explanation from BBC Question Time as to why “Jack Monroe” was invited onto the show not long ago, thus facilitating more of her fraudulent activities. She was exposed years ago as a continual liar, and increasingly, certainly since mid-2022, as an outright fraud.

I myself have been surprised, over the past year, as to how outrageous the “Jack Monroe “grift”/fraud is and has been.

Thinking about the “Jack Monroe” fraud and/or “grift” reminded me of a similarly untruthful character I encountered 30 years ago.

When I returned from the USA in 1993, and started to try to make a living at the Bar (based in exceptionally-poor chambers in London), I did both civil and criminal cases, though I was never much at home in the criminal courts.

At that time (maybe still today, I do not know), solicitors employed unqualified stray persons as “outdoor clerks”, who would attend court hearings on behalf of the instructing solicitors, and in support of Counsel appearing. They had no rights of audience but were more or less messengers and “spear-carriers”.

Such “outdoor clerks” were people most of whom had no legal training at all: out-of-work actors, retired people in need of a financial top-up, all sorts. The advantage in employing them, for solicitors, was the low cost. I seem to recall that a recently-retired lady I knew got £10 or so (maybe £40 or £50 in today’s money) to attend. Most of the hearings were brief, and even with the waiting around etc, the “outdoor clerk” was usually free by lunchtime if not before. Any more-serious hearings, including trials weightier than minor traffic matters, would usually be attended by an articled clerk (trainee solicitor) or a solicitor in person.

One fine day, I was sent to appear in the magistrates’ court somewhere, and was met at court by an outdoor clerk, a rather swarthy mustachioed person, maybe late thirties, who looked more like what the police might term a “villain” than any kind of quasi-legal representative. As soon as he had introduced himself, a furious man accosted him and said “I need a word with you!“, upon which the pair adjourned to a nearby room where I could see them arguing.

The outdoor clerk, one Mitch Baird, then re-emerged, explaining that the furious man was a solicitor with mental health problems. I accepted that explanation by default. I was thinking more about the case in hand, the first appearance of a defendant in an indictable case.

After that, I was instructed on other matters (civil as well as criminal) by the same firm of solicitors, headed by a Jew called “Maxwell”, so encountered Mitch Baird fairly frequently. I met his West Indian girlfriend, with whom he lived (when around). A pleasant woman. I also met her mother. Their house (belonging to the mother) was a large detached Victorian house in the Stamford Hill area of London better known for its population of Hasidic Jews. I even attended a kind of garden party there, well-attended by an eclectic mix, including at least one Metropolitan Police detective (I would never have guessed his occupation).

That all-day barbeque/garden party, which I helped Baird to set up, was also notable for the amount of booze consumed: Baird and I alone drank (I think) 12 (it may have been “only” 8, but even so…) bottles of Bulgarian red wine between us (it seems impossible to me now…), before, late in the evening, heading to Le Caribe, “London’s only silver-service Caribbean restaurant” (now long-closed), a mile or so away, for a couple of imported (Trinidadian) Carib beers at the bar, overlooking a scene of gold-festooned Yardie types dining nearby. Baird then drove me home to Little Venice and dropped me off there. God knows what his alcohol reading would have been, had he been stopped.

Well, suffice to say that the said Baird was not to be trusted. Reports and complaints gradually emerged. For example, he had, apparently, actually taken money in cash from the family of a young Trinidadian visitor for legal defence, when the latter was supposedly legally aided! I had appeared for the defendant, managed to get the charge dropped as well (possession of an offensive weapon), but was never paid (Baird had obviously not put in the requisite legal aid papers).

In a civil case involving defamation, Baird had (in my own chambers, after a conference), got the lay client to make out a cheque for £2,000 to Baird himself. I was myself totally unaware of those facts at the time.

When the lay client discovered that my written advice was that the case was unlikely to succeed, he complained to my clerk that he had been cheated by both the Jew solicitor, “Maxwell”, and by Baird (I was cleared by the client of dishonesty but described in his letter as having not understood what a good case he had! His letter had gone to the Law Society (the solicitors’ body), I think, with the names of all concerned, such as MILLARD, in capital letters, as in the files of the Security Service. That detail has always stuck in my memory.

The lay client had demanded that my clerk, or I myself, somehow get back his money.

Though I was myself blameless (as was my almost useless clerk of the time), I could see the situation snowballing. My clerk had discovered that the £2,000 cheque (worth at least £6,000 today) had been paid into a bank account controlled by Baird’s girlfriend, Baird having himself been blackballed by all banks. I therefore pressured the girlfriend on the telephone, telling her (truthfully) that she could go to prison if the money was not handed back.

I am not a natural bully, but needs must, and after a great deal of bitter tears, the girlfriend did agree to give the money to my clerk, who returned it to the lay client.

I believe that Baird split up later with that woman. No loss (to her). She was probably unaware that she was but one string to his bow. In fact, a very nice St. Lucian bar owner woman had told me that various West Indian women were always telephoning the bar for Baird, leaving messages etc.

Baird then had the cheek to telephone me at chambers and threaten to “give you a good hiding”, as he put it, if I refused to give him, via my clerk, the £2,000. I invoked the name of the Metropolitan Police, then put the telephone down. I never heard from Baird again.

In the interim, though, I happened to meet, at court, that furious man described at the beginning of this story. It turned out that, far from being the lunatic described by Baird, he was a most reasonable fellow, a solicitor who had employed Baird in the recent past as outdoor clerk, and who had discovered that Baird was stealing money, tricking clients out of cash, demanding cash even when the defendant was legally-aided etc.

That solicitor also gave me some background. It seemed that Baird’s parents were mestizos from one of the main Caribbean islands (I forget which), and that his father was a pillar of the community (I think a surgeon). Baird was white-ish but his half-brother not. Baird himself had apparently been a shocking disappointment and source of shame to his parents, by reason of his various behaviours in the Caribbean.

That solicitor had told me how it had taken him a long time to untangle the skein of fraud, theft, and lack of any responsibility, of Baird. The Law Society had been on the solicitor’s neck, I think.

I was contacted not long afterward by that half-brother of Baird, who begged me to meet him and his Polish girlfriend to discuss the matter. Turned out that he worked in a senior (he said) or middle-management (my guess) role at Citibank. He was afraid of scandal tarnishing him, especially the fraudulent aspects of his half-brother’s behaviour.

I met the couple at Ronnie Scott’s, the famous Soho jazz club, which I had not visited previously, and which I found quite interesting. The “Citibank” Baird and Polish girlfriend (a blonde dentist), who seemed to have some kind of VIP membership (we were able to jump the queue to get in) were not unpleasant, and we discussed the problem amicably enough before parting.

What struck me at the time is how the fraudulent Baird had managed to get away with many things because most people, most of the time, believe most of what is told to them, especially when they are introduced (by others, or via mass media “validation”) to the fraudulent individual in such a way as to lull suspicion.

It takes time to wake up to the lies of a hard-core narcissist.

Here we come to the similarity with “Jack Monroe”, the so-called “Bootstrap Cook”. She was introduced to the public by sort-of-trusted organizations and people. The Guardian. The Observer. TV shows. Nigella Lawson, the Jewish TV cook. Others.

That validation (which to some extent continues— incredibly, “Jack Monroe” was on BBC Question Time recently, long after her “grifting” and outright fraud was exposed) makes many tend not to question her bona fides.

Even now, you see on Twitter those unthinking people perfectly happy to accept that “Jack Monroe” crowdfunded to “sue Lee Anderson”, then did not sue Lee Anderson (a few of the mugs even think that she did sue— and won!), and then (as she claims) donated all those crowdfunded monies to an unnamed food bank, indeed to one which she refuses to name. Meanwhile she tries to pull the old “mental health”, “physical health”, and “fear of stalkers and trolls” stunts, which she has used many times previously when suspicions about her gather.

Some commentators think that I am wasting my time on “Jack Monroe” and her mug supporters. Probably, but it makes me angry to see vulnerable, well-meaning, often elderly and, not-infrequently seen, disabled and sick people being taken for mugs by that cheat and liar, who is just laughing at them, if only they were able to wake up and see it.

Where are the police? Still seizing “racist” teddy bears? Still snooping on Twitter or blog posts?

Finally, I have no idea what happened to the egregious Mitch Baird. Maybe the bastard died. Many of those who target me seem to live relatively short lives. Or maybe he just faded into terminal obscurity.

This is the kind of untermensch we have been importing into this country for years, indeed for decades. I am generally anti the death penalty, but a general social problem now exists, and it may be that some brick walls and firing squads may eventually be necessary to solve it. When exactly that day will come, I do not know, but I know that it will come, and will have to be faced.

Not so amazing when you consider that the Jewish lobby has a stranglehold on mainstream media across much of the Western world, and especially the Anglophone world.

God knows what it would look like if one or more nuclear missiles were to land. When I was living intermittently in the New York/New Jersey area in the early 1990s, much of New York City already looked in a bad way, to say the least, but a nuclear attack would take everything to a level no-one wants to see.

It was always more likely that the Kiev regime blew the dam, rather than the Russian forces.

Embarrassing, but the avoider cannot be entirely blamed. Serving on the front lines of the Ukrainian Army seems to be tantamount to a death sentence. The Kiev regime is running out of soldiers, and having to use press-gangs.

A reminder about the fund set up to enable “Sven Longshanks” (James Allchurch) to resettle when he is eventually released from prison sometime in 2024.

Well, I disagree with the assumption of the question, but that result must be accurate as far as it goes.

When will the UK (particularly England) be majority non-white? Some say 2066, others 2050. Maybe even 2040. The Great Replacement. The Coudenhove-Kalergi Plan.

Eventually, the sliding standards in all areas (NHS, policing, education) will be scarcely noticed, because the non-whites accept rubbish administration, potholed roads, creaking railway infrastructure etc as normal.

The police in England, in 2023…

Of course, get accused of saying something about the bad behaviour of some ethnic group (especially Jews) and the police will spend endless hours “investigating” your speech, tweets, blog posts etc…

Watch this space. The “bad law” of Communications Act 2003, s.127 and its “grossly offensive” meaningless nonsense definition (frequently abused by Jewish “lawfare” groups such as the “Campaign Against Antisemitism”) is being replaced by the concept of whether actual harm has been done (once the Online Safety Bill currently going through Parliament becomes law).

So the transnational conspiracy found another use for Greta Nut now that her one-trick-pony “I’m an autistic little girl speaking up against climate change” act started to bore people.

From the newspapers

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12161585/Russias-defences-fragile-thought-officials-say-Ukrainian-counter-offensive-steps-up.html

The head of paramilitary group Wagner has slammed claims by the Russian defence ministry it had killed 1,500 Ukrainian soldiers in two days as ‘absurd science fiction’.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose mercenary troops have spent months fighting in Bakhmut on behalf of the Kremlin, has poured scorn on his country’s establishment after it claimed to have thwarted a second major offensive in Donetsk.

It comes as fighting continues to rage in the eastern provinces of the war-torn country, with Kyiv’s long-awaited ‘all or nothing’ counter-offensive believed to be getting underway.

Ukrainian forces have advanced in Novodonetske by up to five or six kilometres, local reports suggest, as officials claim ‘fierce battles are going on’ for control of the settlement.

Western sources have claimed that despite having to face hundreds of miles of entrenched Russian troops, the defences manned by Vladimir Putin’s troops could be ‘more fragile than thought’.

[Daily Mail]

[Daily Mail graphic]

In the end, Russia has several times —perhaps many times— the number of both reserves and fresh recruits, potentially. It also has, should it choose to use them, tactical and even strategic nuclear weapons.

The Russian economy is strong, despite Western sanctions, whereas Ukraine’s economy is on its back, and the Kiev regime is only functioning because the EU, NATO etc continue to supply arms, ammunition, military training, medical supplies, cash, and food to the Ukrainian forces and civilian population.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12162909/Rishi-Sunaks-tech-adviser-warns-world-got-two-years-tame-artificial-intelligence.html

World leaders may have just two years left to tame artificial intelligence before computers become out of control, the Prime Minister’s AI taskforce adviser has warned.

It follows fears that humanity could lose control of super-intelligent systems, or that AI could launch novel cyberattacks or threaten democracy by propagating mass disinformation.

He added that the ‘existential risk’ is ‘what happens once we effectively create a new species – an intelligence that is greater than humans’.

A group of 350 experts last week signed a statement warning that AI needed to be treated as a threat on a par with nuclear weapons or a pandemic.

Asked whether it was possible to stop AI from becoming cleverer than humans, Mr Clifford said: ‘It’s certainly not inevitable. However, the reason people are starting to get worried, even the people making these systems… is that the rate of progress we’ve seen over the last two or three years has been pretty striking.

‘I think what the signers of the letter are saying is we’re on an exponential… these systems are getting more and more capable at an ever increasing rate.

And if we don’t start to think now about how to regulate, how to think about safety, then in two years’ time, we’ll be finding that we have systems that are very powerful indeed.’

[Daily Mail]

Suddenly, everyone is waking up to this, but it may already be too late.

This report (in fact a revised version of an earlier document first issued in May 2022) will shock many Lockdown enthusiasts by saying that closing the country saved as few as 1,700 lives in England and Wales in spring 2020.

Labour was last night accused of declaring ‘class war on Middle Britain’ over shock plans to slash public services in affluent areas.

The radical plans, included among draft proposals for Labour‘s Election manifesto, would extend equality laws covering race, age, gender, disability and sexuality to include ‘the inequality of social class’.

given very low growth in public spending, the Harman plans ‘would certainly require real cuts to the services provided in more affluent parts of a council’s area’.

And that, he warned, could lead to a collapse in the middle classes’ faith in the state, raising the prospect of a new class of ‘tax refuseniks’.”

The UK police, many of them, are far more interested in doing fake “communitarian” things than doing their proper job, “proper job” meaning deterring or investigating those old boring crimes such as murder, other offences against the person, crimes of acquisition etc.

No, all too many of them have embraced all too readily their new role of being the militia of a toytown “woke” police state, and a poundland KGB, snooping on tweets and other online material (whether they understand that material or not). Still, what goes around comes around, in the end…

The above clip is a typical example. The police in question are chatting about (?) football or (?) Eurovision, and are ignoring the unlawful blocking of the road… until their chat is interrupted. Then they take action, but against a victim of the malicious little pseudo-eco mob, not the mob itself!

Sometimes you can just see what may well happen not far down the road, and if the police fail —continue to fail— to stand with the British people, they themselves will fall victim.

Virtually subhuman. Drop him and the whole troop down a black hole.

Actually, I admit that I am wrong. Not “virtually“…

Many very silly people think that the Suffragettes [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suffragette] were justified in their “direct action” programme, a kind of low-level “terrorism”, because without it, women would never have been granted the vote. The only thing about that, though, is that it is not true.

Women all over the world gained the vote in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, almost all without violent protest. Indeed, the Suffragists in the UK were on that same road: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_suffrage.

As to whether “the vote” really is useful, in 2023, that is a debate for some other time.

Economic sanctions

Economic sanctions either do not work at all or have unexpected consequences. When I visited Rhodesia in 1977, aged 20, I half-expected to see a country weighed down by sanctions imposed by the UN. What I found was a country where those who owned cars mostly drove quite new ones. The UK complied with the sanctions regime, but France, Germany, Japan etc did not, judging by the cars seen on the road. Outside the capital, Salisbury (now Harare), though, there were often empty roads— one sanction that did have an effect was that on fuel, which was rationed.

I noticed that books were hard to get. The main bookshop (I was told it was the main one) in Salisbury had few if any serious books (and none of my then-favourite Penguin Classics), but plenty of books from South Africa, most seemingly (my perception, anyway) about how to take care of your horse/dog/cat/tropical fish. You could buy Wilbur Smith adventures, another South African import [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilbur_Smith]. Also, no American or British news and current events magazines, no Time, Newsweek, Spectator etc. Rather poor South African magazines such as Scope were available. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scope_(magazine).

The dearth of serious reading material was probably the result of both sanctions and the disinclination of most Rhodesians to spend time on intellectual pursuits even of a superficial nature.

As to other effects of the sanctions regime against Rhodesia, imported booze (from Europe or North America) was almost unobtainable, but that did not affect me personally during my time there, because my main drink, apart from water and orange juice, was beer, and the local product was of high quality (Lion Lager or Simba, pronounced “Shumba“, or South African Castle Pilsner, my favourite).

The Rhodesians tried to get around sanctions by diversifying, producing admittedly inferior substitutes for previously imported products. Everything from chocolate to whisky, and even some firearms. I remember seeing ads in the local press for a highly inaccurate submachinegun called the Rho-gun. I seem to recall that the price was about $290 (Rhodesian dollars, not exchangeable outside the country officially, though I did manage to sell quite a few —at a poor exchange rate— to a businessman in Gaborone, Botswana, after I left Rhodesia).

See: https://guns.fandom.com/wiki/BHS_Rhogun and https://military-history.fandom.com/wiki/Rhogun. For sale to (white) Rhodesians with the appropriate permit. The Rhodesian military had far better arms, mostly either from South Africa or from elsewhere (and pre-dating UDI Independence from the UK). [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodesia%27s_Unilateral_Declaration_of_Independence]. See also: https://www.nytimes.com/1977/01/03/archives/travelers-get-armed-guard-on-a-road-vital-to-rhodesia.html.

I noticed that “white goods” such as refrigerators, icemaking machines etc were very expensive, whereas locally-produced food such as oranges, nuts, and biltong (meat, often beef or antelope, dried in the sun) etc was not too expensive.

As for exports (supposedly impossible under the UN sanctions regime), the Rhodesians were able to export minerals and some fruit etc. Years later, I discovered that the Soviet Union, one of the states pressing for harder sanctions against Rhodesia (and South Africa) had in fact been secretly buying Rhodesian exports (at a substantial discount). Chromium and other minerals, and Mazoe oranges (sold in the Soviet Union as “Chinese”, apparently). All shipped out of Mozambique.

Tobacco was another prime export, sold on world markets by a sanctions-busting operation based, I think, in Rotterdam.

The idea that Russia will be “brought to its knees” by economic sanctions is a pipe-dream. In fact, such sanctions help Russia in a “be cruel to be kind” way. They force Russia to diversify, and to improve agriculture and horticulture. The sanctions have also forced Russia to create new trading links, and to strengthen existing ones.

“Human rights abuses”

The next time some bought-and-paid-for “British” or American politician-for-hire, or some Jew neo-con publicist, or fake “centrist”, talks about “human rights abuses” by Russia or others, remember the behaviour of the USA itself. Here are a few examples:

More?

In tropical heat and/or blazing sunshine as well…

The above two images show the American concentration camp at Guantanamo Bay, on the island of Cuba.

…the fact is that the German camp guards of WW2, and even the brutal Soviet guards in their labour camps, behaved better than the Americans have in recent decades.

Behind the executives, and the paid-for public faces, the New World Order (NWO), and much of that is tied in with World Zionism, and Israel.

Unless a true movement can emerge in the UK and mainland Europe pretty rapidly, that must be correct.

Exactly.

In 2016, one of the five tweets that got me disbarred, at the instigation of two connected packs of Jews, was that describing Sarkozy —accurately, except that he is not a full Jew, only part— as “a corrupt little Jew“. Well, scroll on 6-7 years and here we are…

Incidentally, my disbarment was both wrongful and actually unlawful: see https://ianrobertmillard.org/2017/07/09/the-slide-of-the-english-bar-and-uk-society-continues-and-accelerates/.

Another of the five supposedly “grossly offensive” tweets posted by me, as a result of which I was unlawfully disbarred, was that describing snivelling cocaine user and drunk, Gove, as corrupt, as a fraudster and as a freeloader, and also as being in the pocket of the Israel/Jewish lobby.

Well, any argument on that now?

Look at the above news report. Speculators and parasites are favoured by Gove’s latest policy U-turn. Not all are Jews (and not all Jews are speculators and/or parasites) but, at the same time…

So, of the five “offensive” tweets, turns out that, in fact, two were undoubtedly —and now provably— simple true statements of fact, as were also (in reality) the other three tweets in question.

Corbyn was not even decently “antisemitic”, despite the constant (((whine))) about him. In general, a complete idiot.

700,000 immigrants last year. That’s “net”, meaning maybe a million entered but 300,000 (mainly real British people going to Australia, NZ, Canada etc) left.

Britain as a dustbin.

As, I think, Lord Green of Deddington said in the Lords recently, that amount of immigration means that, just to stand still, Britain requires 300 new dwellings every single day!

Horrible little blots such as Tom Harwood are now showing tiny bits of the Green Belt as scruffy here and there. The exceptions that prove the rule— the Green Belt must be saved and, yes, improved.

Starmer can now, I hope, kiss goodbye to his desired Commons majority in 2024. Much as I want rid of the “Conservatives”, Starmer-Labour is now showing its hand…and it is looking even worse.

It has nothing much to do with “dream of home ownership“. In any case, who wants to own a concrete or brick box in a hellhole landscape, and in which “neighbourhood” your “neighbours” may well be persons of backward culture not long off the boat (literally)?

Is that an honest poll? I wonder. Of course, the public has had 1-2 years of brainwashing or conditioning.

I wonder whether the results might have been different had the question made the point that if Ukraine joins NATO and has a war with Russia, it will be mandatory for all NATO states to join in. That is to say, it would be mandatory to join in a war against Russia which would almost certainly either be or become nuclear.

I suppose that, even were the question to elucidate the situation to the people asked, a few lunatics would still want to fight Russia, but most might think that the utter destruction of their homes and whole way of life would be a high price to pay for supporting “Ukraine” (the Kiev regime)…

Starmer still no more popular than Sunak, give or take a couple of points. Both stupid wasters unpopular with 60%-69% of the voters.

I daresay that, in a month’s time, once people realize that Starmer wants to continue to import millions of unwanted migrant-invaders, and destroy what is left of the still-beautiful English countryside so that millions of hutches can be built to house them, the popularity of Starmer —and so, Labour— will fall further yet.

The whole two-party system (with LibDem/dustbin add-on) is very ingrained. It is, in itself, a potent form of conditioning or brainwashing.

Thoughts

Thinking about that visit to Rhodesia in 1977: many people imagine that a collapsing society looks like Germany in 1945 (or 1923). Not so. I was in Poland (several times) in 1988 and 1989; also, in the DDR/East Germany, and Czechoslovakia.

The whole socialist system fell apart in late 1989. Yet the police still patrolled, the borders were maintained and guarded (until the Berlin Wall fell), utilities still worked, and there were few political demonstrations, let alone riots or the like. Letters continued to be delivered. Shops remained open, even if they had little to sell in some cases. The seismic changes were about to happen, but there were only slight external signs of that.

One got a sense of considerable discontent, talking to people in Poland and Czechoslovakia (on those visits and elsewhere as well), but the surface normality prevailed. The police still functioned, even in Poland (I myself picked up two tickets for, in the American phrase, “jaywalking”, i.e. crossing the road at the wrong place). Fined on the spot…twice. A recidivist.

Turning from those situations to the UK, there often seems to be little public appetite for swift political change. Frustrating for many of us.

We have seen, over 20 years, almost uncontrolled mass immigration (including, now, direct migration-invasion in small boats across the Channel, thousands of the bastards per day), crushing “austerity” for the poorer half of the society, ridiculous policies about the “Covid” “panicdemic” etc, an inability of Government to supply (directly, or via the private and/or third sectors) services vital to the people (such as trains, road repair, NHS or other healthcare, social care for various groups). Also, a failure to guard our borders, and a failure to clamp down on real crime (theft, drug abuse, social nuisance etc)., while kow-towing to Jewish/Zionist pressure re. social media non-crime.

Now we see idiots such as Ann Widdecombe criticizing parents who cannot afford to feed their children cheese sandwiches, while pumping billions out to “Ukraine” (the Jewish regime in Kiev) and to house and feed unwanted nuisances who have arrived via unauthorized Channel crossings.

Talk to people, and you get a sense of weary resignation in them, rather than anger, though that may also be there, under the urbane English exterior.

Still, there is everything yet to play for. The NSDAP vote in Germany was only 2.6% in 1928. Events happened, and the NSDAP triumphed only 4-5 years later.

From the newspapers

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/may/17/online-estate-agent-purplebricks-sold-charles-dunstone-strike

Purplebricks, the once high-flying online estate agent that reached a peak valuation of more than £1.3bn, has been sold to Charles Dunstone-backed rival Strike for £1 with all of its more than 750 staff put at risk of redundancy.

Purplebricks launched in 2014 and received early backing from Neil Woodford, the former star stockpicker. It floated on London’s junior market, Aim, in December 2015.”

[The Guardian].

Another example of the madness of crowds, and the madness of finance-capitalism, though I concede that there are arguments to the contrary.

Remember Lastminute.com? The newspapers boosted that simple and actually not very clever idea, made an entitled/privileged and silly woman (and her Jewish business partner) incredibly wealthy in the speculative scramble, but it ended with the small shareholders all wiped out; cheated, in reality.

The woman was even elevated to the Lords by David Cameron-Levita. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lastminute.com and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha_Lane_Fox.

The only thing that can be said is that at least most of those small shareholders lost only a few hundred pounds, if that, their share allocations having been very small.

Lastminute is still, I think, trading, technically. I tried to use the booking service once, about 20 years ago. Useless.

As to Purplebricks, looks as if many shareholders are now left with the value of their shareholding being worth little more than 1% of the peak valuation.

Diary Blog, 14 May 2023, with items about John Osborne, Anatoly Golitsyn, and the Russia-China rapprochement

From the newspapers

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-12080849/PETER-HITCHENS-impoverish-nation-help-poor-world.html

“Labour, as we know from the blurted revelations of the Blairite functionary Andrew Neather, actually wanted to change the character of the country. The Tories wanted lots of cheap labour, and didn’t care if it changed the country. The policy continues. I doubt that the latest law on migration will make much difference.

Lord Green of Deddington – a measured former diplomat who deals in hard fact – mordantly pointed this out during last Thursday’s debate in the House of Lords. He said: ‘The Government have actively encouraged large-scale economic migration,’ and produced clear evidence of this.

He warned: ‘The current scale of immigration, of which asylum is only a small part, simply cannot be allowed to continue. The pressure on our schools and public services is heavy and increasing. We already have to build… nearly 300 homes every single day just to house immigrant families.’

[Peter Hitchens, in the Daily Mail]

[should be captioned “MIGRANT INVADERS”]

Naturally, the pro-immigration careerists and “useful idiots” will display the details of some “refugee” brain surgeon or scientist, maybe one single individual out of every thousand.

John Osborne

“Given a platform to express his views in the 1957 anthology Declaration, he took the opportunity to criticize monarchy:

I have called Royalty religion the ‘national swill’ because it is poisonous… the leader-writers and the bribed gossip mongers have only to rattle their sticks in the royalty bucket for most of their readers to put their heads down in this trough of Queen-worship… My objection to the Royalty symbol is that it is dead; it is the gold filling in a mouthful of decay.[67]

[Wikipedia]

Polemical, but he had a point.

More from Osborne:

Critics saw a conservative attitude to empire reflected in West of Suez,[41][36][45] and later in the 1970s he expressed support for Enoch Powell;[76] in the words of Osborne’s biographer Michael Ratcliffe, “he drifted to the libertarian, unorganized right”.[69] Several commentators have argued that a conservative and nostalgic strain was apparent in Osborne’s work from an early stage.[77][52][76] As early as 1968, in an interview with Kenneth Tynan, he had declared himself “a patriot in the sense that my life only has meaning here, not somewhere else. This sort of spurious internationalism, where people respond to one another across nations and continents — it seems to me very unreal.[47]

[Wikipedia]

I am warming to his words, especially after the pathetic “Conservative Democracy” “conference” (about 100 people), at Bournemouth yesterday, had an even more pathetic knot of pro-“refugee” (migrant-invader) protesters (about 3 or 4) outside the “conference”. They were there, apparently, to support non-existent “climate refugees”.

The unreality has now permeated all levels, from mainstream System political parties (look at the last few Prime Ministers— Sunak, Liz Truss, Boris-idiot, Theresa May) to tiny groups on all sides, even the British nationalist side in some cases.

…and do not forget that millions of “me too” idiots promoted the facemask nonsense, including many many “healthcare professionals” such as doctors. Those who realized the nonsense was nonsense mostly kept quiet to protect their jobs and money.

Interesting but, if the KGB was so cunning, why was it unable to save the Soviet Union itself? The collapse of “the West” may be in train, but that of the “socialist” world already happened, starting (arguably) in 1989.

Not that that means that Bezmenov was completely wrong.

Defectors have to sell something, usually either “secrets” or some kind of analysis of events. cf. Golitsyn [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatoliy_Golitsyn].

As for Bezmenov himself, he died in Canada at the early age of 53: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuri_Bezmenov.

Talking about Golitsyn, his stock was low for decades. I recall discussing the matter in the early/mid1980s, after dinner with a senior member of the (British) Foreign Office research apparat. It was at his home in Blackheath (London), and was a merely social invitation via one of his daughters.

The FO man was dismissive of Golitsyn and, after a couple of his excellent aged Scotch whiskies, emphatically so. I had, at the time, the bad habit of playing devil’s advocate or advocatus diabolus

All the same, while the Soviet and Chinese communists may not have expressly plotted together to deceive the West about the Sino-Soviet split [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatoliy_Golitsyn#Controversies], look at what is now happening— what looks very like a slowly-emerging Russia-China rapprochement against NATO/NWO.

Slightly alternatively, a Russia-China rapprochement combined with a strategy of undermining the West not only militarily but also in financial and commercial areas; weakening the dollar as the default world currency, and bypassing the financial centres of the USA, UK, and EU.

Sometimes, ideas may not become official policy yet have unexpected effects later, down the line. An example of that would be the Helsinki Accords of 1975 [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helsinki_Accords].

Many saw them as meaningless, an example of the Soviet Union “fooling” the West. That may well have been the intention of the Soviet leadership. However, the dissidents in Russia and the Baltic states, Czechoslovakia etc, used the superficially “paper” agreements to push for liberalization of the whole socialist system in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. The rest is history.

Also, speculating philosophically a little, I think that, once an idea has passed through even one human mind, it has incalculable effects down the line.

A somewhat similar idea (re. Helsinki etc) was behind the episode of The Sandbaggers (for me, one of the very best spy story series on TV) called My Name is Anna Wiseman.

I confess that, when I first saw that episode, I thought it rather far-fetched. I thought the same, more or less, about Andrei Amalrik’s Will the Soviet Union Survive until 1984?, which I first read sometime in the early 1980s. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrei_Amalrik]. In both cases, I was (at least partly) wrong. Sometimes, life can be very surprising. I have found that.

Not only to “Ukraine” (the Kiev regime), but also to Israel:

The Jewish lobby in America captured Congress decades ago. The same is true, to a large extent, of the House of Commons in the UK.

I wonder how long it will be before the first nuclear missiles explode in or over Western Europe, and where they will be exactly. In the UK, for example. Faslane? Chicksands? London?

I myself live only about 20 miles from a major likely target area (Southampton). Maybe, in the end, the thing to do would be to buy an excellent bottle of Chateau Margaux or, maybe, Chateau d’Yquem, and just accept that one can do nothing to stop the madness.

If the Russians keep getting poked and prodded and, indeed, endangered by the NATO powers (egged on by the “you-know-whos”, as usual), this can only end one way.

I recall that, when I was living in the South West of the UK, ~20 years ago, a large amount of cocaine was discovered by a dog walker or the like on the wooded banks of the river Torridge, near Bideford. Obviously left by a small boat at night, probably off a larger ship (this was a couple of miles from the estuary, beyond which is the open sea).

Cannot quite remember the value, but I think it was in the hundreds of thousands, at least.

The finder reported it to the police. What else? After all, even leaving aside moral or legal imperatives, most people would have no idea how to sell such a haul. I certainly would not. I do not take prohibited drugs, and know no-one who does, or who would buy that —or any— amount of them.

Doesn’t take much to scare them, nicht wahr? I wonder where their boltholes are? USA? Canada? UK? France? Australia?

Germans know that their territory might well be the first to be obliterated if a terrible nuclear war were to start.

This is the Jewish comedian before whom the entire “Western” msm and political rabble have bowed down…

Zelensky always looks unwashed to me; frankly rather unclean.

I think that the musicians will beat the comedians…

Do you expect manners from “them”? Don’t expect it, then you will not be disappointed.

Now reverse-engineer it.

“Jack Monroe”, a complete fraud. Amazing that she is still being invited to various festivals, though I think only small ones, and she is still occasionally seen in the mass media. In fact, there are still (as of today) 429 utter mugs each sending her between £3.50 and £44 monthly via Patreon. Those idiots must have cotton wool for brains.

Yes, I know that there are other online “grifters”, such as one “Supertanskiii”, a blond woman who has made a living ranting pointlessly on Twitter about “the Tories” (because fake “Labour” under Starmer would be so much better…oh, no, wait a moment…). “Jack Monroe”, though, is a particularly egregious, and indeed pathological, liar.

That is very restrained.

I blogged about those events several times in 2022. As I guessed, there never was a libel action launched, but “grifter” Jack Monroe pretended for quite a while that there was, and solicited donations from mugs.

In fact, her one-time chosen lawyer, Israel-based self-promoter Mark Lewis (about whom I have also blogged in the past), has not even come out of his kennel on her behalf in the past year, as far as I know.

The further tweets are worth reading.

I find myself turning back to Nietzsche, particularly Also Sprach Zarathustra, not read for many years.

The nanny state…again.

About 22-23 years ago, I was en route from a social call in Hereford to the South Coast when the police stopped me in Wiltshire in the middle of the night. I had expected to overnight in or near Hereford, but in the end decided to drive through the night, starting after midnight.

I had had a couple of pints of cider during the (hot summer) day, and a couple of pints of Guinness in the evening. I was not intoxicated in the slightest.

The drive back was devoid of traffic. I scarcely saw any other vehicle, though I had to brake urgently when a black deer ran in front of my car before scrambling into woodland on the road that follows the course of the river Wye.

Sometime around 2 in the morning, I crossed an empty roundabout in Wiltshire and, not long after that, I noticed in the rear-view mirror a car a distance behind me. That car, a police vehicle, then blasted my car with bright headlights, so bright that they were shocking. Irresponsible. They then applied their blue lights.

I pulled over, and one of the two police approached. He asked me where I was headed, from where I had come, and why was I out so late. They probably had already checked the car’s registration (it was not my car), and so asked for no licence or insurance details. Just as well. I had a foreign licence at the time, and I find talking/explaining to the police rather boring.

The policeman had a perfunctory look and rummage in the back of the car, and then decided (on my admission that I had had a Guinness) to breathalyze me. Zero reading.

Turned out that a police camera operator had seen me cross that empty roundabout “erratically”. I was probably tired.

Anyway, the policeman was polite and friendly enough and, above all, let me go!

Still, how long before one has to blow into devices even in the car to test both sobriety and wakefulness?

True, sleepiness, like intoxication, can be dangerous to both a driver and to others, but sometimes these State control measures go too far, and destroy all freedom and pleasure in life.

Incidentally, that was both the first and the last time that I was breathalyzed. I rarely have even one drink now if driving (and drink little generally in any case). The only time in my life when I would have been driving actually intoxicated on a regular basis would have been when living in the Caribbean for a while, nearly a quarter-century ago. A few mojitos and a few daiquiris can seriously impair your driving ability…

An army, however huge, well-motivated, and well-equipped, against a nuclear power, even one which may not be ideologically-motivated or efficient, is little more than a display of strength which may become a field of cinders.

The sections of that Ukrainian-language graphic are, from top, Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Mediterranean Sea. Presumably all or most ships etc are from the Black Sea Fleet.

Good to see young people on the right track. That tweeter now has over 89,000 Twitter “followers”.

See my assessment from a few years ago: https://ianrobertmillard.org/2018/11/15/when-reality-becomes-subjective/.

Looks similar to the village of Dunsford, not far away, where I once stayed for about a third of each month when on “kommandirovka” (i.e. work journeys, as a barrister based in Exeter) from my then home in Brittany.

Seems long ago now. I was last there in 2008.

Clever idea. BTW, I have no financial interest in the product!

The “trans” nonsense has just become absolutely ridiculous in the UK and USA.

Leaving “Madame Hatchet” aside, that is quite right, but what is not said in the tweet is that any visionaries are frozen out by the System, and also attacked relentlessly by, mostly, the Jew-Zionist element and its “antifa” “useful idiots”…

Not so sure that the graph does show that, but I cannot think of many people or types of people, who would go out and vote Conservative Party at present, certainly not from active approbation of Conservative Party policy or actual rule. The most the Con Party can hope for is that there are enough people who actively oppose the Labour Party to mitigate the losses.

Even the “stop the migration-invasion” policy (re the cross-Channel invasion) has been proven to be pretty much hot air. The invaders still flood in, aided and abetted by those who could be called many things but “traitor” is closest, albeit in the “non-legal” sense.

It is very doubtful that Starmer-Labour will do any better in any area than the present bunch of idiots but, as a plea to the voters, that is not much to say…

Once again, a battle based not on which party is most popular but which party is least popular. Not very inspiring.

Good grief. I wonder whether that always works. After all, you only get one chance.

Might be useful sometime.

Various UK institutions such as the civil service, police, CPS, legal professions, judiciary, RNLI, even the National Trust are, so to speak, “riddled with traitors“.

Another hypocrite.

Oliver Reed— quite a character. Despite the hellraising reputation and lifestyle, he could be quite pleasant and polite. My parents told me that they had met him (would have been in the late 1970s, I think, though maybe early 1980s) when stopping off for a drink at an inn on the Hog’s Back in Surrey, not far from Reed’s large Victorian country house. He was at the bar with a (male) friend, and was interesting and courteous, they said.

The conversation had ended prematurely when the publican whispered to Reed that “she’s outside!“, at which Reed and his friend ran out the back way, behind the bar. A moment later a blazingly-angry woman arrived, and said to the barman “has he been in?“, to which the barman diplomatically said “haven’t seen him“! She then stalked out. This turned out to have been Reed’s then wife, Jacquie.

Yes, Oliver Reed. The sort of character rarely seen then, and never seen now (arguende). Descended from Peter the Great, supposedly, and someone who started a romance with a 16-y-o schoolgirl when he was 42 (they later married, when she was about 21 and he was about 47).

The darker side of Reed: https://www.pressreader.com/uk/daily-mail/20130706/282724814519990.

…but “Fr Twohig said: ‘‘Oliver Reed was a very nice fellow. He wasn’t such a bad egg as is said.

‘He was quite shy and he used to need a few shots for Dutch courage. Drink set him off but he was a decent chap and very kind.’’

[The Irish Examiner]

The generality of the public want people to be either saints or sinners, but few people are unalloyedly either. “Blame and praise alike befall, when a dauntless man’s spirit is black and white mixed, like the magpie’s plumage” [Wolfram von Eschenbach, Parzival]

You see that wish of many to perceive people in a very rigid saint/sinner way in almost every political or social (or historical) scenario: the contending forces of the Second World War have to be either “evil” or “good”, despite it being obvious that bad things were done by all major forces contending.

The same is true of contemporary social or political matters in the UK. Those living on State benefits are often seen as either “scroungers” or “fraudsters” (though by some as suffering “victims” of society). Both can be true, even in one individual case, but people only want black and white, not grey.

Likewise, anyone who has served in the Army is now (following the American usage) a “veteran” and, if ever anywhere near a war zone, quite likely a “hero”, a usage that the Sun “newspaper” started in the early 1980s, when anyone who had set foot in the Falklands during the campaign was a “Falklands hero”.

Nurses of course are all seen as good, or even “angels”. Same, more or less, with doctors etc.

There is now no or very little nuance.

Funny. In 1988, when I first went to Poland, driven by a former schoolfriend who had met a Polish girl in London when I very nearly slipped into the Thames and drowned— long story…), he opined, after we had spent some weeks there (I think about 6 weeks, in the end) that maybe poor Poland, then still under socialist control, might one day overtake the UK and France, in the Biblical “the last shall be first” way. At the time, I thought it highly unlikely, but look now…

In fact, my addiction to Google Earth and its Street View has revealed to me in recent years how much Poland has changed since I was there in 1988 and 1989 (I went several times over a couple of years). The roads look better by far than most of the UK ones now, especially the motorways and main highways that now exist. As for Warsaw, completely different.

The above changes must be interesting to my then friend and driver (I did not drive at the time), who married that Polish girl a year or so later, in the Autumn of 1989 (I was the best man, and the wedding was a lavish affair held in the St. Mary Basilica in Krakov, in the main market square).

[the nave of the Basilica of St. Mary, Krakov, where in 1989 a darkly-besuited Millard played the role of best man at a wedding reminiscent of that of Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren in the epic film, El Cid]

Incidentally, the last I heard, some years ago, the pair were still married, and living in leafy Buckinghamshire with their two teenage children (who by now must be well into their twenties).

Some mainstream and more or less international dishes, such as steak, sea bass with green asparagus, coquille of crabmeat and scallops; salad with duck and tomato; a meringue; a Russian favourite, Solyanka with meat (a traditional Russian soup: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solyanka); also (for the Central Asian guests?) Sherbet with lime.

…until a nuclear missile lands. Who, or what cabal, is stirring these revanchiste sentiments?

The Western msm, especially in the USA and UK, is more or less controlled, in its output, by Jews and those working in the Jewish and Israeli interest.

The same is true of, eg, UK governmental and legal systems.

Madness. Escalation of the conflict. Those missiles are not capable of reaching Moscow or Petersburg from Ukrainian territory, but are still able to reach far inside Russia. How long can it be before at least tactical nuclear weapons are used in Ukraine?

At one time, I wondered why the Palestinians in Gaza did not try to replicate the German V-1 technology of the Second World War era (which is almost all now openly available). My conclusion in the end was that the slow maximum speed of the V-1 (about 400 mph) would make it very vulnerable to Israeli jet fighters as well as to ground-to-air defensive missiles. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-1_flying_bomb.
