Saturday quiz

Damn. This week I was, for once, beaten by political journalist John Rentoul, who scored 8/10; I scored 7/10, and did not know the answers to questions 3, 8, and 9 (in fact, I should also have got no. 9 right, but I had forgotten about his existence).

Most readers will know the facts of the case: Sam Melia sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 2 years, of which he will probably have to serve 8-12 months, while Laura Towler struggles with her child —soon, two children— everyday life, her house (she may have a mortgage, I do not know), and her small business. Therefore, a crowdfunder was set up to help her at such a time of crisis. That fund has now reached, at time of writing, £58,972, and still rising. Excellent.

The monies raised will go towards helping the couple survive the year ahead, and get them back on their feet after Melia is released. In addition, no doubt a small part of the money will be directed to helping him while he remains in prison.

To use that service, you need the prisoner’s name, his official prison number, and his date of birth. Incidentally, many imagine that I just hate Israel and anything to do with it. Not so, as such. I like some of the Israeli town planning, and the efforts made to green the cities and towns; also, I like some of the modern architecture, and some of the agricultural, horticultural and hydrological techniques and projects (irrigation, de-salinization etc).

By the same token, I have only limited respect for many of the Arabs of the wider region (I have been to Egypt, Qatar etc several times, and, in the past, had occasional dealings with Kuwaitis and other types, as well as a few visits to Tunisia).

However, the Jews should never have been allowed or encouraged to take over Palestine and turn it into the state of Israel, and their brutal repression of the Arab inhabitants (including mass killings, deportations, and other “ethnic cleansing”) has been, in effect, a 76+ year war crime.

The French discussions, though, do seem to give the lie to the outpourings of Grant Shapps and others. Macron is obviously not expecting a Kiev-regime advance in 2024; au contraire… he expects Russian advances upon Kiev and Odessa. So do I, though whether they will be in 2024 or 2025 (after the US and UK elections this year) is an open question.

Now that the late Queen fades from memory, it is time to move to a republic.

Also, people from poorer countries outside Europe can live off small amounts of food-money, because they are accustomed to making their money stretch. I have had to do it myself a few times in the past, but it seems to come naturally to those such as a Nigerian girl I met in the 1980s, when she was a tenant of someone I knew. She would go to the street market a mile or so away in Peckham (South London), buy rice or potato by the sack, cook it with some hot spices and sauce etc, maybe add some small amount of protein, or not even that, and bingo…dinner served.

In fact, I seem to recall the same was true of a West Indian girl, another tenant of the same landlord, and also in the 1980s. She had been sacked for theft by her employer, the wife of an MI5 officer (she denied that she had stolen anything, but was sacked anyway), and was another one with basically no, or very little, cash.

I myself am not naturally a thrifty person, but I have blogged in the past about how I have had a few (in the American word) “hardscrabble” times in my life. You adapt, one way or another…

I favoured Brexit, but saw that it was (deliberately) mishandled from the start. A journalist in 2017 visited the civil service office that was meant to be planning for a smooth withdrawal, only to find it shut. That says it all.

“We are where we are”, in the commonly-heard phrase. For me, Britain’s main strategic move must be to withdraw from NATO before some lunatic starts a Third World War, and at the same time to pursue an independent course combined with a close friendship with the Russian Federation.

Russia can supply us with oil and gas at cheap rates, maybe even cost-price or below. It could save us.

Yet those mild anxious or protesting tweets have led to a flood of Twitter/X “woke” idiocy, as in the tweet below by one Andy Walsh:

Money, in vast amounts, wasted on the “Covid” panicdemic/scamdemic, on no-hope stuff such as “Ukraine” (the Kiev regime), money wasted on Israel and the UK Jewish lobby, huge sums expended on the upkeep and health of millions of migrant-invader parasites, money in even greater amounts wasted on a largely-useless State educational system. Of course, casualties in Gaza will be given less prominence than those in Israel, because the Western mass media is —mostly— controlled, or at least heavily influenced, by Jew-Zionists.

Look at the Jewish religious festivals. Most, if not all, are effectively celebrations of ethnic supremacism from ancient history. We are talking about 2,500-3,000 years of historical development.

If you said half or a tenth as much about Jews, the msm “claque” would be screaming and (in the UK) the “poundland KGB” police would probably be making a nuisance of themselves…

Political thoughts

The events in Israel/Palestine have resulted in an outpouring of System virtue-signalling.

Sunak, Starmer, and many others all falling over each other to pledge allegiance to Israel. Political con-man, and “controlled opposition” kingpin Nigel Farage, too. In a way, it is a good thing that those who are under that control have identified themselves.

On a different note, I wonder whether the “answer” to the otherwise intractable Gaza problem might be to establish a programme whereby Gazans can relocate to new towns across the Middle East, with co-operation of governments within the region. Instead of one very crowded city of 2 million inhabitants, 19-20 towns, each with 100,000 inhabitants. Gaza itself to be reduced to 100,000, or perhaps to be returned to sparsely-populated farmland.

The above “solution” might be acceptable both to the Gazans themselves (giving them greater freedom and better living conditions) and to the Israeli government (reducing the “security threat” to near-zero), if it could be organized.

Red Sparrow

Saw a spy film called Red Sparrow. I think that “Swallow” may have been changed to “Sparrow” because of the unfortunate double-meaning in English: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexpionage#Soviet_and_Russian.

The film was well-made, and featured a number of famous actors and actresses. Locations in Moscow (maybe), London, Budapest (particularly) and elsewhere.

The plot was a little implausible in parts, as is typical of such films, and the ending even less plausible. Still, not bad. Entertaining, though I easily guessed most of what was going to happen.

Farthing did not “abandon” his Afghan staff. They were not allowed into the airport area. That was the decision either of the US Army, or of the Taliban. Yes, Farthing could have stayed in Kabul. That would have meant suffering and death for those 200 animals, possibly for him too, possibly for the Afghan staff of the charity (and yes, they are still in that same peril, but no worse peril because of his departure).

Farthing took a decision to save those he could. Easy to criticize someone faced with an impossible choice. MSM scribblers should take a wider view, not just be conduits for official propaganda.

As I thought yesterday, and before, this evil stupid government is trying to scapegoat Farthing for weeks, months, even years of shambolic British Government incompetence. Absolutely absurd, and absolutely disgusting.

Oh, and lookee here: expenses cheat and corrupt bastard ex-minister David Gauke (completely in the pocket of the Jewish/Israel lobby) decides to call the rescue of cats and dogs “sentimentality”.

Expenses freeloader Gauke was lucky not to have been exposed in the 2020 appeal of one of Alison Chabloz’s cases, an appeal that she won, in effect, when the CPS declined to provide disclosure of documents relating to how Gauke and/or others had been influenced behind the scenes by the fanatical Jew-Zionist pressure group, “Campaign Against Antisemitism” [“CAA”].

When the CPS declined to show the appeal judge [H.H. Judge Egbuna, sitting at Derby Crown Court] the documentation, the CPS response to Alison Chabloz’s appeal was abandoned and the conviction quashed (she had, at a much earlier stage, been released from prison on bail pending the appeal. She was in prison for 3-4 days, after having been sentenced by a magistrate).

After that, the “CAA” were desperate to “get” Alison Chabloz by making malicious complaints and, eventually, they did get her (she has, at time of writing, now again been in prison for two weeks), but that is another story.

Alison Chabloz appeal hearing

Readers of the blog over recent days will have seen that there was a possibility that Alison Chabloz might have been made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order, one both very wide in its ambit and very long in duration, and which would have prohibited her from talking, writing or singing about WW2 (!), the NSDAP, Jews, Israel, Zionism and the “holocaust” farrago, inter alia.

Usually-reliable sources had reported that such an Order had actually been made by the presiding and sentencing judge. Yesterday, however, it was reported that such an Order did not form part of the judge’s sentence.

Impeccable sources now report that, while application for such a clumsily-drafted Order was made (by prosecuting Counsel), the application was refused outright by the presiding judge.

It does leave unanswered the question of why the CPS (and, indeed, police) continue to allow themselves to be manipulated and used by the tiny and malicious “Campaign Against Antisemitism” [“CAA”] “charity” (pressure group), whose leading members were exposed years ago in open court as pseudonymous harassers and trollers of a number of people (mostly women); Zionist supremacists who, when it suits their purposes, whine to social media organizations, the msm, the police and the courts that they are “victims” of “antisemites”.

Chesham and Amersham by-election

I recently included an appreciation of the upcoming by-election at Chesham and Amersham in my daily blog: https://ianrobertmillard.org/2021/06/06/diary-blog-6-june-2021-including-the-upcoming-by-elections-chesham-and-amersham-and-batley-and-spen/.

The by-election is being held tomorrow. I thought to add my last-minute thoughts.

As I blogged previously, I see no prospect of any upset to the expected Conservative victory in that constituency. Even in 1997, the Conservative Party vote topped 50%, and has exceeded 63%. 55.4% in 2019.

Incumbency is usually helpful to a candidate, so it is an open question as to whether the new Conservative candidate will get a very high vote-share in what is, after all, a by-election.

It may be that there will be a protest vote favouring the LibDems, but I doubt that it will be anything like enough to dislodge the Conservatives. The LibDem vote in 2019 was 26.3%.

The main interest is in seeing whether Labour will lose its deposit. I think that quite likely. The Labour vote in 2019 was 12.9%: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chesham_and_Amersham_(UK_Parliament_constituency)#Elections_in_the_2020s.

The Green Party scored 5.5% in 2019, and it may be that that will increase at the expense of Labour. At any rate, it is hard to see many people bothering to vote Labour after Starmer’s lacklustre and indifferent attitude at Prime Minister’s Questions today.

Well, you would think so, were you not aware how (to coin a phrase) “totally fucking hopeless” the Crown Prosecution Service is. The CPS is run by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Starmer was DPP. His predecessor was Alison Saunders. Both “totally fucking hopeless”, of course.

Time after time, since it started but especially in the past decade, the CPS has proven itself all but useless, stuffed as it is with mediocre (or worse) Common Purpose types.

For example, the CPS recently tried to pursue a case against persecuted singer-songwriter Alison Chabloz, based on a provision under the Public Order Act 1986. Such a prosecution requires the assent of the Attorney-General. When the matter came before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on first appearance not long ago, it transpired that not only had the CPS not received the said assent, but that the CPS had not even requested it, being unaware of the necessity!

Alison Chabloz is now being prosecuted on the same alleged facts, but under anotherAct with a far less severe maximum penalty on conviction (her trial is set down for one day on 1 September 2021).

On the above premises, why would Starmer be any good in his present role? He’s only there because the Jewish lobby wanted Corbyn binned. Who better to “regain the confidence of Jewish people” (which the msm, quelle surprise, thinks is all-important) than someone who is completely in the pocket of that Jewish lobby, and who is married to a Jewish woman lawyer, their children being brought up as if fully-Jewish (celebrating all the Jewish supremacist holidays etc)?

Starmer is about 5 years too late. If he thinks that bringing up the Jo Cox stuff now will help Labour either at Chesham and Amersham, or at Batley and Spen, he is very much mistaken, in my view.

I was looking at tweets by such as political journalist John Rentoul. For people like that, Prime Minister’s Questions is meat and drink, but for most people, PMQs is scarcely even noticed. System Clown A scores point off System Clown B.

Well, I was fairly and squarely wrong as far as the Chesham and Amersham headline result was concerned: the LibDems beat the “Conservatives” by a country mile.

On the other hand, I was right to see signposted another way-station on Labour’s slide to fringe irrelevance. I thought that Labour might get a vote as low as 4%; in the event it was 1.6%.
