Most readers of the blog will be aware that I was sentenced yesterday for breach of the notorious Communications Act 2003, s.127, a law so defective that the Law Commission has recommended its repeal.
I shall blog about my trial and sentencing hearing etc either later today or tomorrow.
Today, the most important thing is to think about forward strategy.
We see, in the Britain of today, a level of repression on free speech and/or freedom of expression never seen previously, not even during times of war, at least since the 17th Century.
Countries which are not cohesive, and which are sometimes called “diverse”, always have to have tyrannical police and secret police, and repressive laws. The modern paradigm, I suppose, was the Soviet Union.
My trial last November, and yesterday’s sentencing hearing was only one small example of the repression which is still increasing. Incidentally, “Labour” supports the latest anti-free speech repression. At least, those with power in the Labour Party: Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves, Yvette Cooper etc; all Labour Friends of Israel members.
What I want to do here is look at “what now?“, in the context of a British society where free speech (especially speech critical of “certain groups”) is finished, at an end, extinct.
Nick Griffin was (also) on the right track when he tweeted (and I think that his views remain the same) that there was “no Parliamentary road” to power for us as social-nationalists, but that we should avoid getting involved in “terrorism” (hard to define, of course, but let that lie for now).
The Parliamentary road is no good mainly because the game is so rigged that the Chicago mobs of the 1920s would feel ashamed. Look at the latest Israel-lobby-procured “extremism” nonsense coming out of Gove and the rest. That means that entirely lawful bodies such as Patriotic Alternative (mentioned by name by Gove) would never be able to take part in elections (certainly not if they looked like having success), might well find it hard to hold bank accounts, or operate any “regulated” mass media etc.
Of course the “antifa” clowns (unwitting pawns of “others”) will think this all wonderful, at first. Later, of course, they will find themselves fed into the meat-grinder.
As for anything approaching the usual view of “terrorism”, that would have no chance even were it morally acceptable. The State holds all the cards— police, military power, secret and security services, arms and ammunition, the mass media (more or less), and pretty tight control over international travel; and so on.
I think that that has to be the way forward. It is in concord with Clausewitz and his views (in another context) re. concentration of forces, sometimes referred to as a kind of Schwerpunkt, or focussed point or area.

Having said that, and acting as advocatus diaboli, let us suppose that the Kiev regime is speaking the truth for once. Let us suppose that the first line of defence (of, apparently, four) laid down by Russian forces has been breached. Let us suppose, further, that Kiev-regime forces can exploit that breach. Let us even suppose that they can breach all four defensive lines. What then?
The Kiev regime does not have the quantum of armour and infantry to breach all four defensive lines and then go on to take the major towns and cities of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Still less can the depleted Ukrainian Army go further, to invade the vast spaces of European Russia proper (which would anyway be a farcical repeat of the mistakes of both Napoleon and Hitler).
All that can happen, the most that can happen, is for the Ukrainian (Kiev-regime) forces to breach the defensive lines, then somehow hold on and bring up artillery with which to attack the civilian towns and cities in the Donetsk/Lugansk regions held by Russian forces (and now designated by them as part of Russia).
Russia has overwhelming air power, still mostly unused. Then there are its missiles. Soon winter will come to Ukraine, sometime in November, so within 2 months from now. Once the ground is hard, the Russian armour will come into its own.
I had thought that the much-trumpeted “Ukrainian counter-offensive” had already failed. It may be that, in one small southern sector of the overall front, that is not so, and that the Kiev-regime forces are still advancing slowly. Perhaps,; but for how long?
I think that, on the high-command level and above, the Russians are waiting to see what happens politically; in the USA, and in EU states as well. A change of US President may mean a change of attitude, and a change of policy.

I saw an assessment by some British ex-officer that, were the Russian forces to use nuclear weapons (I presume he means tactical ones) in Ukraine, US and UK forces would respond, directly, by wiping out the Russian forces in Ukraine in 2-3 days! If the above were to happen, we would be in world war, “Dr. Strangelove” territory, and the USA would be involved both as target and as nuclear attacker.

The Razor’s Edge
I just wasted 2 hours watching the 1984 remake of the fine 1946 film, The Razor’s Edge, which was based on a novel by Somerset Maugham.
The remake expunged entirely the character of Somerset Maugham himself, who in the 1946 version was both the unseen narrator and also seen in several scenes throughout the film (Somerset Maugham was played by Herbert Marshall: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Marshall).
Several changes were made, I think not very successfully, in the 1984 version: the film starts at a kind of charity fete, rather than a country club by one of the Great Lakes. The main character, Larry Darrell (played by Bill Murray in the 1984 film, but —far better— by Tyrone Power in the 1946 one) is, in the 1984 version, a former ambulance orderly home from American involvement in WW1 (in the 1946 film, he is a former WW1 American pilot).
The 1984 film leaves out, entirely, the 1946 version’s final parts set on the Cote d’Azur, and resets those scenes in Paris.
The Himalayan scenes, where Larry Darrell seeks and finds enlightenment after consulting with an Indian holy man and “abbot” of an ashram, were much more powerful in the 1946 version; the 1984 film makes the ashram a Tibetan Buddhist monastery, and the scene in which Larry Darrell is enlightened on a mountain is just not at all convincing.
I have never read the novel, but I see now from Wikipedia that Darrell’s enlightenment in the book came after encounter with a Hindu spiritual master. The 1946 film leaves it vague as to the religion of the “abbot”, but the “abbey” is described as an ashram.
Even the drink which causes the character, Sophie, to fall back into alcohol abuse, is changed from Pertsovka (pepper-and-honey vodka, called —in the French way— “persovka”, in the film) to Zubrovka (bison-grass vodka). Incidentally, the 1984 film was both a critical and commercial flop, making back only half of its production budget, whereas the original 1946 version was nominated for four Academy Awards, and won one (Anne Baxter, playing Sophie); it also won two Golden Globes. The 1946 film was not a huge success commercially, but still made back 4-5 times its production cost.
Sometimes, remakes surpass earlier versions, but rarely. In this case, the 1946 version outdoes the 1984 remake in every way: storyline, acting, music, cinematography (despite the 38-year gap). The script in particular is very crisp in the 1946 film.

Saw a Russian film this evening: Silver Skates, set in 1900. Rather un-Russian in that it was quite watchable, had a plot that was not obscure, and a relatively happy ending. Not bad. Well put-together.

A Ukrainian state, presumably based on Lvov, can then exist in the two-thirds of Ukraine west of the Dnieper and north of that coastal strip.

Economic sanctions either do not work at all or have unexpected consequences. When I visited Rhodesia in 1977, aged 20, I half-expected to see a country weighed down by sanctions imposed by the UN. What I found was a country where those who owned cars mostly drove quite new ones. The UK complied with the sanctions regime, but France, Germany, Japan etc did not, judging by the cars seen on the road. Outside the capital, Salisbury (now Harare), though, there were often empty roads— one sanction that did have an effect was that on fuel, which was rationed.
I noticed that books were hard to get. The main bookshop (I was told it was the main one) in Salisbury had few if any serious books (and none of my then-favourite Penguin Classics), but plenty of books from South Africa, most seemingly (my perception, anyway) about how to take care of your horse/dog/cat/tropical fish. You could buy Wilbur Smith adventures, another South African import [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilbur_Smith]. Also, no American or British news and current events magazines, no Time, Newsweek, Spectator etc. Rather poor South African magazines such as Scope were available. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scope_(magazine).
The dearth of serious reading material was probably the result of both sanctions and the disinclination of most Rhodesians to spend time on intellectual pursuits even of a superficial nature.
As to other effects of the sanctions regime against Rhodesia, imported booze (from Europe or North America) was almost unobtainable, but that did not affect me personally during my time there, because my main drink, apart from water and orange juice, was beer, and the local product was of high quality (Lion Lager or Simba, pronounced “Shumba“, or South African Castle Pilsner, my favourite).
The Rhodesians tried to get around sanctions by diversifying, producing admittedly inferior substitutes for previously imported products. Everything from chocolate to whisky, and even some firearms. I remember seeing ads in the local press for a highly inaccurate submachinegun called the Rho-gun. I seem to recall that the price was about $290 (Rhodesian dollars, not exchangeable outside the country officially, though I did manage to sell quite a few —at a poor exchange rate— to a businessman in Gaborone, Botswana, after I left Rhodesia).
I noticed that “white goods” such as refrigerators, icemaking machines etc were very expensive, whereas locally-produced food such as oranges, nuts, and biltong (meat, often beef or antelope, dried in the sun) etc was not too expensive.
As for exports (supposedly impossible under the UN sanctions regime), the Rhodesians were able to export minerals and some fruit etc. Years later, I discovered that the Soviet Union, one of the states pressing for harder sanctions against Rhodesia (and South Africa) had in fact been secretly buying Rhodesian exports (at a substantial discount). Chromium and other minerals, and Mazoe oranges (sold in the Soviet Union as “Chinese”, apparently). All shipped out of Mozambique.
Tobacco was another prime export, sold on world markets by a sanctions-busting operation based, I think, in Rotterdam.
The idea that Russia will be “brought to its knees” by economic sanctions is a pipe-dream. In fact, such sanctions help Russia in a “be cruel to be kind” way. They force Russia to diversify, and to improve agriculture and horticulture. The sanctions have also forced Russia to create new trading links, and to strengthen existing ones.

Thoughts
Thinking about that visit to Rhodesia in 1977: many people imagine that a collapsing society looks like Germany in 1945 (or 1923). Not so. I was in Poland (several times) in 1988 and 1989; also, in the DDR/East Germany, and Czechoslovakia.
The whole socialist system fell apart in late 1989. Yet the police still patrolled, the borders were maintained and guarded (until the Berlin Wall fell), utilities still worked, and there were few political demonstrations, let alone riots or the like. Letters continued to be delivered. Shops remained open, even if they had little to sell in some cases. The seismic changes were about to happen, but there were only slight external signs of that.
One got a sense of considerable discontent, talking to people in Poland and Czechoslovakia (on those visits and elsewhere as well), but the surface normality prevailed. The police still functioned, even in Poland (I myself picked up two tickets for, in the American phrase, “jaywalking”, i.e. crossing the road at the wrong place). Fined on the spot…twice. A recidivist.
Turning from those situations to the UK, there often seems to be little public appetite for swift political change. Frustrating for many of us.
We have seen, over 20 years, almost uncontrolled mass immigration (including, now, direct migration-invasion in small boats across the Channel, thousands of the bastards per day), crushing “austerity” for the poorer half of the society, ridiculous policies about the “Covid” “panicdemic” etc, an inability of Government to supply (directly, or via the private and/or third sectors) services vital to the people (such as trains, road repair, NHS or other healthcare, social care for various groups). Also, a failure to guard our borders, and a failure to clamp down on real crime (theft, drug abuse, social nuisance etc)., while kow-towing to Jewish/Zionist pressure re. social media non-crime.

The only thing that can be said is that at least most of those small shareholders lost only a few hundred pounds, if that, their share allocations having been very small.
Lastminute is still, I think, trading, technically. I tried to use the booking service once, about 20 years ago. Useless.
As to Purplebricks, looks as if many shareholders are now left with the value of their shareholding being worth little more than 1% of the peak valuation.
