I recall that Michael Palin, about 18 years ago, in Michael Palin’s New Europe, sympathetically interviewed both Yulia Tymoshenko (at the time, Prime Minister of Ukraine) and her then very attractive daughter, who was about 25 and was a former student at the LSE and, according to Wikipedia, Rugby School (I had thought Cheltenham Ladies’ College; maybe I mixed her up with someone else).
At that time, Eugenia Tymoshenko was married to an Englishman called Sean Carr, a rock music singer, who was then in his late thirties. He was also featured on Palin’s show. A bearded motorcyclist. The couple divorced about five years later.
Since Palin did his TV show, Yulia Tymoshenko has been convicted of corruption etc, been imprisoned, appealed, been released, and is now an MP again, and the leader of a political party. Her daughter has remarried and has a high profile but is not a politician, and the English (I think Yorkshire) rock music person, Sean Carr, died in 2018 at the relatively early age of 49 or 50.

Saw a Russian film this evening: Silver Skates, set in 1900. Rather un-Russian in that it was quite watchable, had a plot that was not obscure, and a relatively happy ending. Not bad. Well put-together.

Second tweet not entirely accurate. While it is true that GCHQ was established under that name only in 1946, it seamlessly took over the similar though (in the pre-1939 era) much smaller org known as the Government Code & Cypher School, which operated from a number of places between the two world wars, one being a station or outstation located in the Dog Kennel Hill (East Dulwich borders) and Denmark Hill border of South London. That base, not mentioned in the Wikipedia entry below, was active certainly until the late 1980s, though I think not used by GCHQ (possibly by MI5 or other org ) at that time. The Jew Zelensky knows that his time is limited in terms of bringing NATO directly into war with Russia. I have blogged for the past year or more that the best idea is for Russia to take the areas of Ukraine east of the Dnieper, and for some Ukrainian successor to the Zelensky regime to control the larger area west of the Dnieper, and centred on Lvov. That would leave aside the Kiev area (which is on both sides of the Dnieper), Crimea, and the Black Sea littoral centred on Odessa.
Crimea was always Russian, with a mainly (now almost entirely) Russian population. Kiev should probably have some kind of special status, and Odessa either the same or a degree of autonomy, with Russia controlling the Black Sea coast to a depth of about 50-100 miles.

Saw a recording of a documentary (I think Channel 4) about “Boris”-idiot and the Lebedev father and son (with the old KGB, its successor-agencies, and British SIS and MI5, as spear-carriers).
The whole thing is rather odd, and there are certainly questions to be answered, but I cannot see Johnson as a Russian agent, not as such. For one thing, he is at root completely unideological; any such connection would be money-based or based upon getting help to push “Boris” upward (he was Foreign Secretary at the time he visited one of the Italian castles owned by the Lebedevs).
At the time, as now, the Lebedevs controlled msm outlets such as the Independent and Evening Standard.
My tentative conclusion at the end was that, possibly/probably what happened was that the younger Lebedev was offered a peerage for straight cash to “Boris”, paid somewhere offshore, protected by layers of (perhaps) offshore trusts and companies, such as Panamanian trusts and/or numbered bank accounts. A personal deal, nothing to do with the old KGB, or its SVR successor, though the details would no doubt be of interest to the latter, and to the Kremlin.
I concede that I have no evidence at all with which to back the above speculation. Pure speculation and hunch, backed only by the facts as known. Why did Johnson later nominate Lebedev junior for a peerage? Against Security Service and other advice, too.
Of course, at the time Johnson visited the Lebedevs in Italy, he was Foreign Secretary, not Prime Minister, so could not have nominated anyone for a peerage, but his unmerited likely elevation to No.10 was a good each-way bet at the time, and anyway no money need to have been paid unless and until.
If it happened, how much money? Name any figure north of £10M. £20M is good, £100M even better.

So-called “Travellers” (Irish “tinkers”). Quite typical behaviour. I once witnessed such an incident myself. I was in a cafe at Dover, near the port, and waiting to embark for France with my car. On entering the cafe, I saw that the main area was empty, but that a noisy group of Irish persons, aged from 40+ to small children, had been put in a side room. They were both eating and drinking (beer).
After about 20 minutes, they all came out into the main area, and while one or two talked to the two Italian (I think) staff, the rest went out into the street. The two inside seemed to be preparing to pay, but made up a story about how others were going to pay. One of the two, then the other, went “to fetch the others” but of course disappeared. The waiters ran out and took the number of one of the cars. They also called the police.
Well, there were two minor sequels to that incident. The first was the same day. On arrival in Calais or Boulogne (I forget which, and was a regular arrival at both, in those days), and on going back to my car on the ferry, I noticed the small crowd of foot passengers at a disembarkation point. One of them was a tall girl aged about 18-20, who was part of that “tinker” group. I noticed that she was now alone, and trying to “play grey”, i.e. blending in with the other foot passengers.
The other members of the “tinker” group were not there. Had they stayed in the UK? Had they gone to vehicles? Who knows?
The other sequel was that I stopped by the same cafe about 6 months later, and asked whether the police had done anything. Apparently not, though that may have been because the registration number taken was not a known one (probably false).

Regular readers of the blog will be aware that I am being prosecuted on 5 counts of breach of the notorious “bad law” known as Communications Act 2003, s. 127, relating to five blog posts allegedly posted by me.

I have already stated that I shall not be blogging in detail about the case until it is concluded.
Today, I attended the magistrates’ court for a case management hearing. At that hearing, various directions were given. The only ones of interest to readers of the blog are that there will be another case management hearing later in the year (in October), and that a trial date has not as yet been fixed but possible dates are in the latter half of November 2023. If those dates prove ineffective, then it may be that the trial of this entirely pointless and malicious prosecution will not take place until December 2023, or even a later date, i.e. in 2024.
I shall blog in detail about the matter once the trial has been held (assuming that one is held).

The very fact of part of Ukraine being a war zone should preclude Ukraine from joining NATO (under NATO’s own rules).
I think that the Americans, meaning the leadership or ruling circles, are starting to realize that they are pushing Russia too hard and that, if push comes to shove, Russia just might hit NATO states with strategic nuclear weapons in the end. No matter that most of Russia’s 6,000+ weapons might not launch successfully, or reach their targets. Several hundred could. That means every American city of any size wiped out. Don’t do it. Pull back from the brink.
Once dementia sufferer Biden is removed from office next year, there will be an opportunity for the USA to re-evaluate this whole situation, stop funnelling arms, ammunition, and money to the Kiev regime, in effect take away Zelensky’s ricebowl. The war would then cease almost immediately. Russia can have the territories between the river Dnieper and the Russian border, as well as Odessa and the Black Sea littoral. There would then be a fully-Ukrainian state west of the Dnieper, probably based on Lvov, but north of the strip of land along the entire Black Sea coastline.

My understanding when I donated was it would be used for the case. After I donated you said if it was taken on a no win no fee basis you would give to charity. You didn't proceed with the case so not sure why money wasn't just refunded or at least more transparency.
There is in fact no evidence (beyond the word of a long-term liar, “grifter”, thief, fantasist and fraudster) that any of that money was given to any —unnamed— foodbank as claimed).

I am not a doctor but, in my layman’s view at least, “Jack Monroe” is a type of psychopath not unknown in psychiatric literature: relentless, and likely to “double down” on her lies even after they have been comprehensively exposed as lies.
The “sue Lee Anderson and Martin Daubney” “grift” has been typical. She crowdfunded to sue them (ostensibly). She never in fact had a case, because their (I agree) defamatory (as innuendo) statements saying that “Jack Monroe” “lived off the backs of the poor” etc were, in a word, true. They were true statements (though possibly simply “mere insult”, and not actionable). Anderson and Daubney therefore had a complete defence of “truth”, even leaving aside fair comment, honest opinion etc, and the “mere insult” point. Also, had the matter gone to trial, “Jack Monroe” would have been required to disclose at least the outline of her financial affairs. She could never allow that.
It is noteworthy that the Jew lawyer, Mark Lewis, who had conduct of the libel case brought by “Jack Monroe” against Katie Hopkins years ago (a case impossible to lose; Ms. Hopkins was in the wrong, was possibly badly advised, and should have eaten crow a bit, and settled at an early stage), has in the past year not even emerged from his kennel re. “Jack Monroe”.
Lewis, now resident mainly in Israel, does not take on cases certain to fail (because he would then make no money).
It always looked like “Jack Monroe” had simply kept the “sue Lee Anderson” monies, and I shall believe that (as with her previous scams) that is exactly what happened in this case, unless and until I see at least plausible proof to the contrary.

Just monroe things. Did it before with teemill money, claimed they'd donated enough for thousands of hungry people to eat to various unnamed charities, then showed receipts for a few hundred quid to one charity.
My own impression, reading her tweets, and having seen her on TV once or twice, is that “Jack Monroe” is a dangerous woman, and one who, in other circumstances, might have been a more conventional type of criminal, or even worse.
I can't stand Lee Anderson, but Jack Monroe raised a large amount of money to sue Lee -refuses to say how much, won't provide any transparency, says she 'donated' it but won't provide proof. It's not 'trolling' to ask relevant questions. It's not the first time she's done this.

Having said that, I am more interested in the fact that, despite “Jack Monroe” claiming that reporters from “Fleet Street” were ringing her doorbell (in Essex) and looking in the windows, i.e. more or less besieging her house, to the extent that she and her son (who may not even live with her anyway; that seems to be disputed) have had to flee elsewhere, not one major news outlet has reported on “Jack Monroe” today. Interesting. I rather like Turkey, and have been there several times, both to the mainland and (once) to Turkish North Cyprus. On my last visit, in 2001, everything was pleasantly inexpensive for someone with hard currency. Even cheaper now, it seems. I drove to Turkey from the UK, and back again. I have blogged quite a bit about “Jack Monroe” over the past 8 months.
Most of us knew this threat was the usual Jack Monroe silly drivel. It just makes the arrogantly aggressive threats and put downs we've read all year from her even more deplorable. Get it sorted!
“Jack Monroe” has been defrauding or otherwise cheating the public for at least a decade.
As I predicted (on the blog) would happen or, rather, not happen, there never was a libel case launched or even formally started against Lee Anderson or Martin Daubney.
Mark Lewis, the Israel-based Jewish lawyer once retained by “Jack Monroe” in another (rather simple) matter years ago, has not even emerged from his kennel in relation to the Lee Anderson non-case.
In other words, crazed “Monroe” simply made up the “libel case” and used it as yet another opportunity to extract money from mugs such as “@jdpoc” (see below).
Incidentally, Dan Wootton calls “Jack Monroe” a “celebrity chef”. Too kind. She is scarcely even a cook, let alone a “chef”. Her food mostly looks like a dog’s dinner and, from what I have read, largely consists of pasta with a bit of cheap sauce on it. She has never been trained as a “chef” or even a cook, as is abundantly obvious from the photos and recipes she used to post online.

I think that many people, even today, will be honest if they find a purse or wallet. In the past few years, I myself have found two or three. One was a kind of wallet I happened to see in a clifftop parking place. I was there, unusually, early one morning, not long after dawn. I saw the item in the half-light, was curious, so went to pick it up.
The wallet contained about £50 in cash, I think also a debit card, a couple of other bits and pieces, and a student railcard in the name of some girl.
I went home, thinking that the girl must be fairly local, in view of the station which had issued the railcard, only about 8 miles from that car park. Her surname was unusual, so I called the few telephone numbers (landlines) with the same name. Only one answered. An old lady, so no-go.
In the end, I drove to the local police station (its desk manned by an old fellow, a civilian support person) and gave in the wallet. I made the point that there was a large college near the rail station which issued the card, so the girl was almost certainly one of the students there.
I hope that the girl got back her money and the rest. As for what a young girl aged 16-18 was doing in a clifftop car park and (presumably) after dark, and how she managed to lose her wallet, maybe it is better not to speculate…
The second wallet was larger, newer, and packed with both money and cards (an incredible number, literally dozens, neatly and individually carefully tucked into pockets), and had been left in a shopping trolley at Waitrose. I took it in to the help desk, and a member of staff took it from me. Probably the woman who lost it got it back soon afterwards. I imagine that she must have called the store in a panic.
Not that I promise to be a good citizen if someone leaves an attache case containing a million pounds somewhere, which amount of cash could not, in my view, be the property of any honest person. No, the (so far, hypothetical) million pounds stays with me, in that event.

Oliver Reed— quite a character. Despite the hellraising reputation and lifestyle, he could be quite pleasant and polite. My parents told me that they had met him (would have been in the late 1970s, I think, though maybe early 1980s) when stopping off for a drink at an inn on the Hog’s Back in Surrey, not far from Reed’s large Victorian country house. He was at the bar with a (male) friend, and was interesting and courteous, they said.
The conversation had ended prematurely when the publican whispered to Reed that “she’s outside!“, at which Reed and his friend ran out the back way, behind the bar. A moment later a blazingly-angry woman arrived, and said to the barman “has he been in?“, to which the barman diplomatically said “haven’t seen him“! She then stalked out. This turned out to have been Reed’s then wife, Jacquie.
Yes, Oliver Reed. The sort of character rarely seen then, and never seen now (arguende). Descended from Peter the Great, supposedly, and someone who started a romance with a 16-y-o schoolgirl when he was 42 (they later married, when she was about 21 and he was about 47).

You see that wish of many to perceive people in a very rigid saint/sinner way in almost every political or social (or historical) scenario: the contending forces of the Second World War have to be either “evil” or “good”, despite it being obvious that bad things were done by all major forces contending.
The same is true of contemporary social or political matters in the UK. Those living on State benefits are often seen as either “scroungers” or “fraudsters” (though by some as suffering “victims” of society). Both can be true, even in one individual case, but people only want black and white, not grey.
Likewise, anyone who has served in the Army is now (following the American usage) a “veteran” and, if ever anywhere near a war zone, quite likely a “hero”, a usage that the Sun “newspaper” started in the early 1980s, when anyone who had set foot in the Falklands during the campaign was a “Falklands hero”.
Nurses of course are all seen as good, or even “angels”. Same, more or less, with doctors etc.
There is now no or very little nuance.

Funny. In 1988, when I first went to Poland, driven by a former schoolfriend who had met a Polish girl in London when I very nearly slipped into the Thames and drowned— long story…), he opined, after we had spent some weeks there (I think about 6 weeks, in the end) that maybe poor Poland, then still under socialist control, might one day overtake the UK and France, in the Biblical “the last shall be first” way. At the time, I thought it highly unlikely, but look now…
In fact, my addiction to Google Earth and its Street View has revealed to me in recent years how much Poland has changed since I was there in 1988 and 1989 (I went several times over a couple of years). The roads look better by far than most of the UK ones now, especially the motorways and main highways that now exist. As for Warsaw, completely different.
The above changes must be interesting to my then friend and driver (I did not drive at the time), who married that Polish girl a year or so later, in the Autumn of 1989 (I was the best man, and the wedding was a lavish affair held in the St. Mary Basilica in Krakov, in the main market square).

Incidentally, the last I heard, some years ago, the pair were still married, and living in leafy Buckinghamshire with their two teenage children (who by now must be well into their twenties).
