“Demands for answers were mounting on Sunday as to how an armed man was able to get into position on a roof overlooking a rally and fire shots at Donald Trump – the 2024 presumptive Republican nominee – despite federal and local law enforcement presence and witnesses reportedly alerting police.
Trump was bleeding from his right ear and later described a bullet whizzing by while he was speaking at the rally. An attendee was killed and Secret Service agents then shot dead the suspect, with eyewitness reports that someone outside the rally had told police they’d seen the armed suspect heading to the roof but it appeared that officers did not respond.
“How was it that someone could get [in position] on a roof … with a weapon and try to assassinate [Trump]?” Turner told CNN’s State of the Union show on Sunday morning, adding: “The fact that people knew there was a man with a rifle and were trying to get the police’s attention is a cause for concern.”

It is bad enough when families like that get caught up in a “normal” war, but what we see in Gaza is a relentless and largely one-sided attack by one side (which alone has planes, real missiles, tanks, all sorts of advanced weaponry etc) upon an almost defenceless population. The background of that is known to some but not all readers. I therefore offer the following blog pages as explanation (obviously, I cannot republish or link to the 5 blog posts which were determined by the Court to have been, or to have contained material, “grossly offensive“, so here are 5 others).
I should add that, while 5 blog posts were determined, in the magistrates’ court, to have contained “grossly offensive” material (in fact, in my opinion, largely innocuous comments and cartoons), the material in question was tiny in amount, about 2% of each blog post, if that. In fact, only a few sentences allegedly written by me were specifically mentioned in the judgment.
As previously mentioned on the blog, I am perforce far more diplomatic now on the blog than I was a few years ago, but how sad it is that this country that, arguably more than any other bar the USA, championed free speech for so long, should fall victim to this kind of sub-“Stasi“, poundshop KGB-ism, with the Clown Prosecution Service and police falling over themselves to placate the Israel lobby.

Look, though, at what the Conservative Party now is. We are told, also, that the polls say that 20% of eligible voters have not even decided whether they will vote at all, and are also undecided as to which way they might cast their votes if they do vote. Do we take it that many of those will simply abstain? Will they vote simply as protest? Uncertain.
It could just be that those “undecideds” will vote, will want to vote as protest, and so will mostly vote Reform UK. Were that to happen, it really would put the cat among the pigeons.
The fact is that the Conservatives are in deep trouble anyway, that the mere existence of Reform UK has deepened that existing trouble, and that, even at a nationwide 15%-19% (as per recent polls), Reform UK, while perhaps only getting a few seats, would spell doom for the Conservative Party. Which is why the msm is now going crazy trying to demonize Farage and his latest party.
If Reform UK actually scores above 20%, then game on. If the existing ~18% is boosted by another 5 or 10 points, then UK politics will have received a meteorite hit, and will never be the same again. Were Reform UK to get 28% of the national vote, that might mean 80-90 Commons seats, and Reform UK would be the official Opposition.
That may seem impossible or crazy, and it may not happen, but the exciting thing is that it actually could happen. You cannot compare Reform UK in 2024 to Brexit Party in 2019, or UKIP in 2015.
This time, the Cons are going to go down really badly. More importantly, there is a perception this time that to vote Reform UK is not a mere protest vote, but a protest vote that really could accomplish something concrete— the utter destruction of the Conservative Party for a start.
I do not know whether Reform UK will manage to get beyond its present 15%-19% range, and/or get as high as 28%, but it just might.

His only non-political job was as a director of Cardiff Bus, a municipal bus service company owned by Cardiff Council; Williams was a councillor and on the relevant Council committee at the time. What a boondoggle.
Williams has been an MP since 2015, but lost his previous seat to Labour in 2017 and was then elected for another constituency in 2019. That constituency has now been abolished, and redrawn into the new constituency of Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr.
On the previous boundaries, the area was quite solidly LibDem until 2010, when the egregious Lembit Opik managed to ruin his political career by making plainly freeloading expenses claims and by playing around with young Romanian pop singers called the Cheeky Girls: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lembit_%C3%96pik.
While one might have expected Williams to continue the run of Conservative Party successes in the now-redrawn seat, the plunging popularity of the party, combined with Williams having tried to make an illicit profit by betting on the election date while obviously having inside information, may make him unelectable. The new constituency is being contested by Con, Lab, LibDem, Green, Plaid Cymru and, perhaps most interestingly, Reform UK.
Obviously, I have no idea how Reform UK will perform, and it may be that the LibDems have the best chance of getting rid of Williams, but if (a big if, as they say), Reform were to take half of the otherwise Con vote, then either Reform or the LibDems might succeed.
On the wider point, had something like this betting scandal occurred in, say, 1994, or 1984, let alone 1974 or 1964, the person implicated would have been expected to step down either as candidate or, later, as MP (if re-elected). The slide in integrity and honour in British politics is palpable. The bastard seems to be intent on riding it out, and hoping to get away with it.

“Former Tory voters in Clacton have been switching to Reform UK over Nigel Farage’s stance on immigration.
GB News ventured up to the coastal constituency to get a feel on the ground ahead of Farage’s launch near Clacton Pier.
Immigration was the main issue raised by residents, with the cost-of-living crisis and net zero also salient issues.
Speaking hours before Farage’s arrival, Andrew Humphries told GB News: “Immigration is a massive thing, especially how it impacts on the rest of society.
“I’ve been waiting for a couple of years now for housing. My family has been here for 40 years and I’ve seen the decline of the town.
“You’ve got to help your own first before you look out for others.”
Humphries, who described himself as typically a non-voter, claimed there is a “good chance” Farage will win and argued the two-party system is broken.

Immigration generally should be the first and most important issue. The other important matters —economy, pay, State benefits, housing, NHS, public services, educational standards etc— are all affected, hugely, by the migration invasion.
People (including some “experts” etc) were saying until very recently that polling numbers for Con and Lab would converge, as they always have done. Mechanistic, formulaic thinking.
I have disagreed. I still disagree. For me, the main thing is that almost everyone, barring about (?) 10%-20%, most of whom are elderly lifelong Con voters now in their 80s and 90s, has realized that the Sunak/Liz Truss/Boris-idiot/Theresa May/Cameron-Levita Con governments have run the UK into the ground, and have been actually totally useless.
It has been clear to me for quite some time that, barring those ingrained and very elderly Con loyalists (or lifelong habit-voters), almost no-one is going to vote “Conservative” in the upcoming election. Maybe 20%, maybe 15%, or even as low as 10% nationwide. My guess would be about 18%.
The polls are still moving: the Cons are still descending. Labour has slid somewhat from its (?) 49% high to around 40%. The uninspiring prospect of Israel-puppets Starmer, Rachel Reeves, Yvette Cooper, Liz Kendall etc fails to excite many voters, but I doubt whether Labour’s overall vote will be below, or much below, 40% in the end. I am thinking 40% or 42%.
The polling statistics seem clear: Labour beats Con on almost all topics, from economy and NHS through to “best PM” and even immigration. That means that, where there is a straight fight between a Labour candidate and a Conservative Party one, Lab will usually beat Con.
The joker in the pack is Reform UK. The difference in 2024 as compared to UKIP in 2015 and Brexit Party in 2019 is not really in the policy “offering”; that is all but identical. So is the leadership (Farage, mainly). The difference lies in the context.
In 2015, UKIP failed only because it was cheated by the rigged FPTP voting system. 12%+ of the popular vote, yet no seats won. That, and because the full horror of the mass migration invasion was still not understood, in its effects, by enough people.
In 2019, Farage stabbed Brexit Party in the back to help the Con Party achieve its faked “landslide” (43.6% popular vote, about one point above Labour’s “landslide of 1997).
Today, in 2024, things have moved on. Brexit was deliberately mishandled and has been negative in its consequences for that reason.
The immigration tsunami has brought in, quite literally, millions (more) of unwanted non-Europeans since 2015.
We see the “unelected” little Indian money-juggler, Sunak, throwing taxpayer money at both Israel and “Ukraine” (the brutal and dictatorial Jew-Zionist regime in Kiev).
Another aspect is the extent to which UK society has fallen apart since 2015, and especially since the 2020-2022 “panicdemic” or “scamdemic”.
Potholed and unrepaired roads have become “totemic” of it. NHS failings. The continuing migration invasion, of which the “small boats” crossing the Channel (in reality, ferried across by Royal Navy, RNLI, Border “Farce” etc) comprise only about 5% of all immigration. The slow collapse of law and order. The increasing overall cost of living.
Reform UK is still a bit of a one-trick-pony, both in policy and personnel, but it has at least a chance now of getting a handful of MPs.
More importantly, a high popular vote for Reform UK will hole this rotten misgovernment below the waterline, and that is exactly why many (including former Con voters) will vote for it.
In fact, were Labour supporters and LibDem supporters, in seats where either Labour or LibDems have no chance, to vote tactically for the party best placed to beat the Con candidate, or for Reform UK, the Cons might be left with an MP cadre in the single figures.

Add to that the hundreds of millions who might make claim to asylum illegitimately, and you see the point— the UK cannot, could never take a billion or more persons, a number about 15x the present UK population.
It is often said that that would never happen, that the number who might come here is far lower. Perhaps, but then what is that number? 150 million (which would triple the existing UK population)? Even that would completely collapse our present society. Lower yet, say 75 million? That would still double the existing UK population, and would also shatter our society, irrevocably.
At present, about a million migrant-invaders are coming to the UK each year. Most are not “asylum-seekers”, but that is irrelevant; all that matters is the total number.
Matt Goodwin should have made those points, not his poor point about how a couple of foreign girls in the UK put paraglider motifs on their clothing after the October 2023 attack on Israel by Hamas operatives.

Is the US war aim the defeat of Russia and collapse of the Russian state? Well, that is not going to happen. Ukraine has not the means to attempt such a task, against a population maybe now 5x the size, and in a vast geographic space.
Is the US war aim for the forces of the Kiev regime to occupy or re-occupy the oblasts of Lugansk and Donetsk, and the new Russian republic of Crimea? That, at present, also seems all but impossible.
Russia has a functioning and even growing economy, a growing and improving army, air force and (arguably) navy, missile forces, and the backstop of nuclear weapons. Ukraine has a collapsed economy, and a population much of which lives in other countries (including Russia). Ukraine (Kiev-regime Ukraine) is almost totally dependent on Western aid. It also now faces shortages of soldiers, arms, and ammunition.
The concealed US war aim was to use the Zelensky regime to put pressure on Putin, and possibly to encourage a palace revolution in Moscow. It never happened and, now that Prigozhin has been knocked off the board “with extreme prejudice”, and his Wagner Group mainly absorbed into the ordinary Russian forces, never will. Not in the next few years, anyway.
If the details were not so horrific, those accounts would be almost funny in places— “they” are always the “victims”, even when blowing up and shooting unarmed civilians, including women and children.
That was in 1948, but here we are in 2024, 76 years later, and similar crimes are taking place in Gaza. “Their” behaviour does not change…only the power of their weapons has changed.
As the above map shows, if Russian forces can take Kharkov, it will be massive. Other Russian forces, pushing up from the south and southeast, will then squeeze the Kiev-regime forces out of the area between Kharkov and Donetsk. Thus the stage will be set for a push west and north towards and along the Dnieper, until the outer boundaries of the Kiev defence lines are reached.

Having said that, Natalie Elphicke is unarguably right about Sunak’s bad joke government. The very roads are like something out of the Ukraine now— potholed, rutted, unrepaired or, at best, poorly-patched.
I started to comment on the blog years ago about how, not overnight but over 10-15 or more years (even pre-dating “Conservative” governments post-2010) “nothing works in Britain these days”. The newspapers started to say the same a couple of years ago. Now, hardly anyone would argue about it.
It will be interesting to see whether Natalie Elphicke, if not adopted as Labour candidate for the Dover constituency, stands as Independent. It might be tight between Con and Lab anyway, but with Reform UK in the mix (and very likely to do well), and Natalie Elphicke potentially standing as Independent, it could be a very close contest indeed. She might even win.
Come to think of it, Natalie Elphicke might have done better to have defected to Reform UK, which would probably have made her its Dover candidate, and with a reasonable shot at winning in a three-way split.

London has large areas of unused roof space which could be turned into green space; not necessarily all open to the public, but still a haven for birds and a recreational resource for individual people, families, employee groups etc.
I had such ideas back in the mid/late 1970s, when I happened to see some of the views from the roof areas of tall buildings: a couple of the then-tall buildings of the City of London (now dwarfed by the new high buildings, of course), the British Gas building at Marble Arch etc; both during the daytime and at night.
Since those times, others with similar ideas but more resources have actually been able to make a few projects a reality. There remains huge scope.

A reference to those detained and convicted in relation to the recent terrorist attack in Moscow, who may spend their lives as of now in so-called “coffin” cells measuring 4-6 square metres; cells as tiny as 6 feet by 6.
It troubles me that the apparent terrorists were treated with such brutality, verging on sadism (to say the very least), on the day when they were detained; also, that the now-mandated conditions of detention seem worse than simply inhumane; as bad as, or worse, than those suffered by some prisoners in America’s “Supermax” prisons.
It is not that I think that the terrorists “deserve” better treatment but rather, that to treat even such individuals as they have been treated and continue to be treated, diminishes Russia itself, just as Guantanamo, Bagram, Abu Ghraib etc diminished, and continue to diminish, America.

In relation to no.4 above, it is unfortunate that the learned district judge at my free speech trial (in November 2023) seemed unaware of or (much more likely) not in agreement with, the point(s) made (which have been made many many times previously).
In fact, and in any case, “antisemitism”, as such, is not illegal in this country; neither is so-called “holocaust” “denial”. That much has been made clear in numerous court cases though, as far as I am aware, not yet at appeal level in the higher courts (Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of the UK).
Actually, the trial judge was fair in his actual conduct of the trial, overall, but Britain these days has come under a kind of low cloud of repression in respect of —shall we say?— “them“…
I feel that a few issues were slightly fudged in the delivered judgment of the learned District Judge at my trial. It is long since I was a barrister in court (2007) but I feel that there was at least one good appeal point in that judgment.
However, I am disinclined to appeal, and then have to go through, at the Crown Court, what would amount to a retrial, rehashing all the nonsense of the “CAA” and CPS already heard, particularly as the sentence eventually handed down by the sentencing judge was relatively light; and also in view of the fact that the sentencing District Judge refused the Prosecution application for a Criminal Behaviour Order to restrict (though not much, really, the Order and Application having been so poorly-drafted) my publication of the blog.
Incidentally, my trial was at the end of last November, so only a week short of 4 months ago. Tempus fugit. Even my sentencing hearing was 9 days ago, but I have already done one day out of the ordered 15 “probation” days (nominally a day, in terms of the sentence format, but actually about an hour in real time).

Never elected to anything, not even as a local councillor, yet now she sits in the House of Lords, posing as a “baroness”, and will be legislating as of now. No doubt when Labour’s “elected” dictatorship happens (later this year), she will be appointed to some role or other, perhaps even to a ministerial position. “Democracy”?

“HMRC has sparked fury by announcing it will permanently close tax helplines for six months and let 100 customer service staff work a three-day week over the summer.
Taxpayers will not be able to call the tax office for help with their returns from April 8 until September 30, HM Revenue and Custom has today announced.
The move comes just weeks after the Commons Public Accounts Committee of MPs condemned HMRC’s customer service for hitting an ‘all-time low’.
New figures showed how almost 1million calls went unanswered in January – typically the busiest month of the year for the service, with taxpayers rushing to file for self-assessment tax returns without triggering fines for lateness.”

Having said that, when I had (historical) tax problems and had to engage with the Revenue, well over a decade ago, especially in 2010-2011, I was quite frankly amazed to see how utterly shambolic the HMRC “service” actually was. It’s an overused term, but it was “Kafka-esque” to a degree I would not have believed had I not experienced it myself.
So now it is actually worse? Hard to believe. The one comfort I have from that very stressful period many years ago is that, soon after I got off the hook, and during the Cameron-Levita/Osborne “austerity” programme, most if not all of the HMRC staff that had harassed and annoyed me, and created problems for me, lost their jobs. Suck on that…
Still, all’s well that ends well…my income is now so low that the shambles of administration in that “service” need not concern me. My problems with “the taxman” were settled to my satisfaction in 2012.

“Eight men have been sentenced over their involvement in violent disorder after trouble flared at a hotel housing asylum seekers. The court had heard there was “ill feeling” in the area following a video on social media which appeared to show an asylum seeker asking a 15-year-old girl for her phone number and for a kiss. Violence broke out outside the Suites Hotel in Knowsley, Merseyside, last year which was providing temporary accommodation for asylum seekers.
Brian McPadden, 61, of Kirkby, was jailed for three years and six months at Liverpool Crown Court.
There were gasps from the public gallery as he was jailed. Thomas Mills, 47, who brought a banner to the protest urging people to shout to get the asylum seekers out, was sentenced to two years and eight months.
Paul Lafferty, 42, was handed the same sentence while Jonjo O’Donoghue, 21, of Liverpool, was sentenced to three years and six months in a young offenders institution. Former British Army soldier Liam Jones was sentenced to 27 months while John Tippler, 59, was jailed for two years.
Warren Cullen, who was on a community order at the time of the protest, was jailed for 20 months. The judge gave Harry Boynton a 16-month suspended sentence along with 200 hours of unpaid work.“
