Well, this week a convincing victory over political journalist John Rentoul, who scored a modest 21/. My score was 6/10. I did not know that answers to questions 2, 4, 6, and 7.
Talking point
I happened to see again the following, a blog post I published nearly 2 years ago in 2024:
“As part of a privately funded experiment in Universal Basic Income in 2019, the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration (S.E.E.D.) conducted a pilot project that gave a $500 stipend to 125 randomly selected residents for an 24-month period with “no strings attached.“[51] “
[Wikipedia]
“SEED was a Randomized Control Trial that distributed $500 a month for 24 months to 125 recipients. The cash was unconditional, with no strings attached and no work requirements, and recipients were selected randomly from neighborhoods at or below Stockton’s median household income.
Results gathered from the first year, which spanned February of 2019 to February of 2020, found recipients obtained full-time employment at more than twice the rate of non-recipients. Recipients were less anxious and depressed, both over time and compared to the control group. They also saw statistically significant improvements in emotional health, fatigue levels and overall well being. Recipients had a greater ability to pay for unexpected expenses.
People spent the SEED money on basic needs, including food (nearly 37%), sales/merchandise (22%, on home goods, clothes/shoes and discount/dollar stores), utilities (11%) and auto costs (10%). Less than 1% was spent on alcohol and/or tobacco.”
In my view, Basic Income must be the way to go, with AI and robotics impacting employment and set to do so more. The alternative to Basic Income is to have a tiny sliver of the population ultra-wealthy, a wider layer wealthy, and about 80% of the population near-destitute.“
I think that that is even more obvious in 2026.
Another talking point
“A country that has forgotten its culture, history, traditions and national heroes is doomed to extinction” [Tolstoy]
That is where the UK now is; or very close to it.
Another talking point
“Give white men a pile of bricks and they will leave you with a civilization. Give blacks a civilization and they will leave you with a pile of bricks” [Anon.].
Simplistic, of course, but true none the less. The white inhabitants of London, and many other European and North American cities, can vouch for the veracity of that.

This is the problem. Starmer's weakness means British foreign and defence policy is now being channeled through the prism of how to save his premiership, not what's actually in the British national interest. https://t.co/RzrdKSMI0o

Perhaps, after Reform UK gets into government but then fails to satisfy the needs of the British people, real social-national politics will come to the fore. We do not need universal support, nor even a majority, just a large enough minority (disciplined and equipped etc) to take over regardless of rigged System elections.

Also, with such a small gene pool to work from, if their ancestors had strong dark triad traits, it’s certain that most living descendants today also have them which explains this awful behaviour below.“]
Israeli Jews did that, and much more besides, and even the Jewish-lobby organizations in the UK and other parts of the world admit (indeed, claim) that most Jews living in the UK and other countries support what the Israeli Jews are (once again) doing. Mass slaughter of civilians.

[Wanda Landowska, celebrated harpsichordist, with Tolstoy, either at his Kropotkinskaya (Moscow) townhouse (which I myself have visited), or (more likely) at his family estate at Yasnaya Polyana, where she went on several occasions, travelling with her own harpsichord. Exact date of photo uncertain, but certainly in 1907, when Wanda Landowska made a concert tour of Russia; three years before the death of Tolstoy in 1910. The lives of Tolstoy and Landowska spanned much of the 19th and 20th centuries, Tolstoy having been born in 1828, and Landowska having died in 1959]
Just imagine: in 1910, a mere three years after that photo was taken in 1907, Tolstoy was dead and, four years after that, in 1914, the disaster of the First World War started, followed three years later by the even more disastrous Bolshevik seizure of power in late 1917.

[“After spending the night in hospital with my daughter, who is very unwell but not life threatening, I don’t want to hear another word about how great the nhs is. The nurses have not looked after her at all. Loud unnecessary conversations throughout the night, lazy can’t be arsed attitudes, no explanation of what’s happening, at all, no desire to offer reassurance or comfort, not one question about whether she wants to sit up or lie down. We are being made to feel like everything is too much and we should be grateful for less than the absolute minimum. She asked for more pain killers, as it’s been six hours. “We will come at six, as it must be six hours unless you’re in pain” (it can actually be four) we explained the doctor says to make it regular, she’s also had morphine and that she is in a lot of pain. “If you dont wait until six the next lot will be hours and hours and hours” I ask what time the last lot was as we think it’s been a really long time. “11:13, so she can wait until six, unless she’s in pain” I say that that’s six hours ago. “Yes so at six we will come round” I have to say “no, at six it’ll be nearly seven hours, she’s in pain now, please can you go and get the pain relief now” She goes. When she returns, rather than coming round to the side of her bed to give a patient medicine, on a drip, she leans from the bottom of the bed and motions for my daughter to get up and take it from her. I have to remind the nurse that she’s in hospital because she’s unwell and in agony. “Oh I didn’t know, I’m new to this ward” this ward is uneventful, nothing is happening. She must have read my daughter’s chart to give her the tablets. What sort of nurse gives tablets from the bottom of a bed?!?! Imagine I wasn’t here? How many patients would have felt despite the pain they should take it from her? Imagine my daughter was a frail or vulnerable patient? The entire experience has been god awful. The hospital is very empty, with wards full lit with no patients in them. It’s utterly utterly shit.”]
All too typical. While the picture overall is not unmixed, and while NHS care is sometimes good, it really is time that the British stopped regarding the NHS as some sort of world-beating service and quasi-religious object of devotion, and started to look at the NHS objectively, as a necessary first step to fixing the array of problems within it. That of course cannot be done so long as the UK is being invaded by a million “migrants” (migrant-invaders) every single year.

One thing her consultant said was that if she had any flu symptoms she must get a blood test. Yesterday I went with her to the GP because she has flu symptoms. The paramedic was miffed and didn’t think it was necessary. I mean, he too had had sepsis and he didn’t need a blood test. I know had I not been there my daughter would have left without the test. The results came back and she’s got a crp of over 70, which means infection, inflammation or sepsis. I’m so irritated that unless you’re bolshy the NHS ignores you.”]
The NHS situation is merely one symptom of a society which has been gradually but increasingly visibly declining since, arguably, around 1989 but, also arguably, from earlier dates.
The System political parties and many of the UK’s administrators are engaged in a quite conscious conspiracy sometimes called “the management of decline“, a phrase I think first used by Anthony Sampson in 1962, in his once-influential book, Anatomy of Britain, and its sequels. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatomy_of_Britain.
Of course, the invasion-by-immigration scarcely existed in 1962, despite what is claimed in the fake history now pushed down the throats of both schoolchildren and the general public. That migration-invasion (a term invented and first used by me about 15+ years ago but now in general use) has greatly accelerated the (post-1989?) process of decline and, indeed, degeneration.

The YouGov poll, yesterday, put Reform on only 24%. This More in Common poll is more in line with literally hundreds of previous polls, so perhaps more accurate.
Translates to a Commons with Reform having about 384 MPs (very solid overall majority), Labour 80 (official Opposition but very weak, having lost 332 MPs…), LibDems 51, SNP 43, and Cons 43 (meaning that they would have lost 78 MPs) [etc].
Among the 332 Labour MPs likely to be binned— Angela Rayner, Dan Jarvis, Shabana Mahmood, Jess Phillips (at last!), Christian Wakeford, Mary Creagh, Ed Miliband, Mike Tapp, Luke Akehurst, Stephen Timms, Wes Streeting, Rachel Reeves, Liz Kendall (it just gets better!), Yvette Cooper (yay!), Anna Turley, Kim Leadbeater, Gareth Snell, Torsten Bell, Heidi Alexander, Lisa Nandy, Emma Reynolds etc.
Among the likely-to-be-binned 78 Con Party MPs— James Cleverly, Mel Stride, Suella Braverman, Robert Jenrick, Desmond Swayne (my own local MP: I do not disagree with some of his views but, looking at him as a constituency MP, I have heard several tales of his laziness and uselessness); Rishi Sunak, Nick Timothy (good riddance! When it comes to the Jew-Zionist/Israel lobby, which is by far the most active lobby in the UK corrupting and suborning and influencing the police, CPS etc, Matt Goodwin puts a telescope to his blind eye and cries out “I see no ships!“.
The Jewish/Zionist/Israel lobby is engaged in massive and (of course) (((well-funded))) “lawfare”, trying to shut down the freedom of expression of British people: see, for example,
Basically, 1,000+ people have now been arrested following the recent protests and connected minor “riots” (or violent outbreaks) here and there.
Many of those people have been charged, and many of those have been remanded in custody, meaning put into prison until trial (which might be as long as a year or more later, unless fast-tracked). Those who have pleaded guilty so far mostly seem to have been imprisoned anyway.
The fact is that many (probably almost all) of those imprisoned, either pending trial or after having pleaded guilty, are not in any way, even in the lay sense, “dangerous”. Many have no previous convictions, and even those who do (and the sentences of which have been reported after guilty pleas) have convictions mainly for non-violent offences (shoplifting, drugs etc).
What Starmer, Yvette Cooper, and (absurdly) Shabana Mahmood, have done is to release known and active criminals early (many non-white, and after they have completed only 40% of their sentences), in order to free up space which is now being used to incarcerate English people who are, almost all, not active criminals.
Those released early under that scheme will, many of them, re-offend within a fairly short space of time, whereas relatively few of those arrested in the aftermath of the recent protests will re-offend at all, ever, and certainly not in terms of violent disorder. That of course applies even more to those arrested/charged/imprisoned because they merely made comments, justified or otherwise, on social media.
It is beginning to look very much as though Starmer, Yvette Cooper, and the ridiculous Shabana Mahmood (currently posing as “Lord Chancellor” and Secretary of State for Justice) have no idea what they are doing. To me, their over-reaction to the recent minor disorders that took place (by English people— those done by Roma Gypsies in Leeds, and Pakistanis in Birmingham etc, have gone largely unpunished) seems much like that of the Queen of Hearts in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: “Off with their heads!“
[“Off with their heads!“]
Incidentally, was there ever a “Lord Chancellor” and Justice Secretary less qualified? A moot point after some in recent years, I concede. However, Shabana Mahmood is an absurd choice for the role. She was only at the practising Bar for a few months, if that (after a year of pupillage), and then worked as a salaried gopher in a firm of solicitors, and only for a couple of years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shabana_Mahmood#Early_life_and_career.
Shabana Mahmood’s entire legal career only lasted about 3-4 years.
She was probably appointed to placate the Pakistani Muslim element in the UK.
Pakistanis as such are now about 3% of the population; Muslims as a whole (many of which are also Pakistani but born in the UK) comprise 6% of the UK population now. Both anyway are significant voting blocs, and important in general political terms.
“Nearly early two weeks after its surprise incursion into Russia, Ukraine finds itself struggling to find a balance between seizing territory across the border in Kursk and losing it at the heart of the eastern front in central Donetsk.
On Friday, Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, claimed advances were being made of up to two miles a day inside Russia, but Moscow’s forces have gained about three miles this month as the Kremlin bets heavily on capturing the hub of Pokrovsk.
In Pokrovsk, meanwhile, officials have stepped up civilian evacuations. Serhiy Dobryak, head of the city military administration, warned that Russian forces had “almost approached” the city and that alarm about its future was growing.
Until a year ago, Pokrovsk was considered safe enough to act as a regional base where journalists and aid workers could stay overnight. Its road and rail connections link the central city of Dnipro with Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. Capturing it would in effect cut the part of Donetsk oblast still in Ukrainian hands in two.
There are persistent rumours that Col Emil Ishkulov, the popular commander of Ukraine’s 80th brigade, now among those involved in the incursion into Kursk, was removed from his position at the end of July because he was opposed to the incursion into Russia – unsure his unit had the strength for the task. At the time, soldiers from the unit issued an unsuccessful public appeal for him to be reinstated.
Sumy, which has a population of about 250,000, has remained busy and lively in the summer heat, though the noise of explosions from Russian glide bombs in the distance stepped up over last week. Its hospitals, though, have been filling up with frontline casualties, and an appeals for blood donations went out to help treat wounded soldiers a week ago. It took an hour for the need to be met.
The city has also received about 4,000 people fleeing the agricultural villages in the area towards the border in the north, many of whom plan to rent apartments.
In the border zone, six miles from the boundary, meanwhile, only a tiny handful of civilians and little functioning infrastructure remain. One shop with smashed windows was still selling groceries, but most places were boarded up. An aid agency, Global Empowerment Mission, supplies nearly 26,000 food rations every month because market supplies are absent, visiting frontline villages every week to distribute to the remaining population.“
[Guardian]
I recently examined this situation on the blog. My thoughts were that either Putin might push the incursion forces back using conventional military means, or blast the entire area from the air, destroying the Kiev-regime forces (as well as any unfortunate Russian and Ukrainian villagers still trying to live there).
Another possibility, less likely, would be a massive bombardment of either Kharkov or Kiev, using bombers and missiles.
Now, I have come to think that there is a fourth possibility, one which has roots in Russian and Soviet history.
When, as Tolstoy put it, in War and Peace, “the forces of Western Europe invaded Russia” in 1812 (the forces commanded by Napoleon were not all French, though about two-thirds were), the strategy adopted by the Russian leadership under Kutuzov, once he was appointed, was to withdraw and withdraw out of reach, while carrying out some limited flanking attacks and what we might now term “special operations”.
According to the preferred strategy, St. Petersburg, the capital, was protected both by troops and by distance, and so was never threatened by the Grande Armee. Moscow, however, was abandoned and set on fire.
Napoleon’s retreat from Moscow was famously disastrous, his armies all but destroyed by attritional flank attacks, cold, lack of food, and by disease.
Of the initial half million men, only about 100,000 made it back to France or other countries.
“On 24 June 1812 and subsequent days, the initial wave of the multinational Grande Armée crossed the Niemen River, marking the entry from the Duchy of Warsaw into Russia.
Employing extensive forced marches, Napoleon rapidly advanced his army of nearly half a million individuals through Western Russia, encompassing present-day Belarus, in a bid to dismantle the disparate Russian forces led by Barclay de Tolly and Pyotr Bagration totaling approximately 180,000–220,000 soldiers at that juncture.[21][22]
Despite losing half of his men within six weeks due to extreme weather conditions, diseases and scarcity of provisions, Napoleon emerged victorious in the Battle of Smolensk. However, the Russian Army, now commanded by Mikhail Kutuzov, opted for a strategic retreat, employing attrition warfare against Napoleon compelling the invaders to rely on an inadequate supply system, incapable of sustaining their vast army in the field.“
[Wikipedia]
In the German invasion and war of 1941-1945, the Wehrmacht advanced to within sight of central Moscow, but were then held and pushed back. Stalin was unwilling to abandon Moscow, the capital, for reasons of morale and administration.
However, elsewhere in European Russia, the Stavka (high command) allowed the Germans to advance and advance into the apparently limitless space (prostor, in the Russian word), as the German supply lines became elongated and eventually unable to supply enough food and ammunition; this came to a head particularly during the battle for Stalingrad.
Reverting to the Kursk situation in 2024, it can be seen that the operation was designed by Zelensky, against the advice of some of his commanders, as a public relations exercise. The suppliers of arms and vast amounts of Western taxpayers’ money had to be shown that the Kiev-regime forces were not beaten. Those forces achieved surprise, and, at first, considerable success.
The Kiev-regime forces were advancing several miles a day in that Kursk border region, but have probably now almost stopped.
Russian forces far to the south, in the Donbass, are advancing 1-3 miles a day, apparently. The Kiev-regime forces are outmannned and outgunned there, a situation made worse by the use of some experienced Ukrainian troops for the Kursk incursion.
What Putin could do (though it might be politically difficult) would be to do little but just about hold the line in the Kursk region, or even fall back on Kursk city (about 30-40 miles from the present front-line), while pounding the Kiev-regime supply lines and rear echelon areas. The Kiev regime forces do not have the manpower or ammunition etc to advance endlessly. Their tide may already have reached its fullest extent.
In other words, Putin could almost let those Kiev-regime forces in the Kursk region “die on the vine”, in MacArthur’s memorable phrase.
Once those Kiev regime forces are stuck in the Kursk region, or have retreated, or are destroyed, those forces will not be able to be deployed, or re-deployed, on the Donbass front. Even now, it looks as though Russian forces will soon split the Kiev-regime forces there into two. Once that results in further crumbling of the front, startling Russian advances may be seen, either in the next few months or next summer. All of Eastern Ukraine may fall to Russian forces in 2025.

Labour have set the bar high – or rather, the threshold low – for arrests. Let’s see. https://t.co/HbM9XS9Q0Rpic.twitter.com/Unjvl7iYoL
The Notting Hill Carnival should never have been allowed in the first place, and should be terminated now but will not be, because the Government is afraid of weeks of rioting and looting by blacks if such a step were to be taken.
I attended that carnival once, out of curiosity. In the early or mid 1980s. Absolutely ghastly. Intolerable noise, mostly from horrible amplified “music”. Intolerable crowds. Also, no way of getting out without walking miles. In the end, I walked all the way back to Little Venice.
492 illegal migrants entered Britain on small boats yesterday, taking the total since Labour's election to 5,492, & the total this year to 19,066. As I've said, with no serious plan it's only going to get worse … https://t.co/NmI46TvxuA

So it seems that the “poor and victimized” Jewish couple, supposedly targeted by an American black comedian, then booed out of an Edinburgh Fringe comedy show by the irritated audience, were none other than Mark Lewis, the egregious self-promoting solicitor, and his wife/partner/carer Mandy Blumenthal. They made a big fuss about emigrating to Israel six years ago. They said that Britain was too “antisemitic” for them to remain here, and so were, in effect, getting out while they could.
A pack of lies. They spend quite a bit of time here, and do not seem to feel any obligation to stay and help Israel in its hour of need.
If those tweets by Reginald D. Hunter are true (accurate), that puts another complexion on the “victimized Jewish couple” story as first published and broadcast recently.
First of all, one has to ask why Lewis and his companion went to such a show in the first place, if the comedian, one Reginald D. Hunter, is known for being “antisemitic” (I have to admit that I had never heard of him at all).
What was their motive even for going there if they were aware of the comedian’s expressed views?
It will be remembered by some that Mandy Blumenthal deliberately tried to book passage, quite many years ago, on a Middle Eastern airline operating out of Heathrow, and made it known that she was Jewish (perhaps using her Israeli passport rather than her UK one). Once refused by the airline, a “typical” fuss was made, both at the airport and in the (((Press))), and the airline quickly stumped up, apparently, quite a few thousand pounds by way of “compensation” (to shut her up).
Is this yet another cynical way to get money, this time out of the comedian, the promoter or the theatre? Was the whole thing contrived in advance, like that airline scam, or not? We do not know, and can only try to draw logical conclusions from what we know.
Reading about what the comedian said on stage, it seems that he recognized the “anonymous” Jewish couple of the Press stories, and that that is why he said that he had been “waiting” for Lewis, assuming that it was Lewis, to turn up:
That’s even before one considers the way in which he treated his ex-wife, one-time low-level TV face, and radio voice (now washed-up and over the hill), Caroline Feraday. I have little time for her anyway, so let’s leave that aside for now (she joined with Lewis in abusing me very unpleasantly on Twitter, about 12 years ago, so she deserved to suffer once she married him, in my view).
Sabrina Miller, when a vociferous Jewish girl student at Bristol, found time to defend Jewish-lobby-puppet and then-MP, Ian Austin, who had tweeted that bestiality pornography and other similar material should be decriminalized. Now she is a “journalist” with the Daily Mail.
The Mail might not have the best reputation, but it really should draw the line at contrived “stories” such as this Edinburgh Fringe scam.
Looks to me as though the audience recognized Lewis specifically, and were loudly disapproving for that reason.
As for the comedian, the promoter (if any), and the theatre, they should resist any contrived legal claim that “any” ambulance-chaser might make…
This all makes me feel that “a certain person” was right (about “them”)…
And as you probably know, Sabrina Miller has form: see her role in trying to smear @Tracking_Power (David Miller – no relation) as an antisemite when he was working at Bristol University (claims which were destroyed in court).
There’s an air of unreality to prosecutions designed to nip unrest in the bud by handing down disproportionate sentences. English law, honed over centuries to match punishment to evidence, is misfiring. Many defendants have pled guilty without trial. Cases need testing by juries. https://t.co/ykuP6ExHuX
What does Starmer think those imprisoned protesters, tweeters, Facebook posters feel about the UK government of traitors now? Happy? Angry? Determined?
"More than 1,000 people have been arrested, with almost 600 charged so far. Some of those charged have been children, including two 12-year-old boys, a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy."
God help John Betjeman, were he still alive. “Come, friendly German bombers, and drop your bombs on Slough“… he would probably be arrested by the “Anti-Terror Command” or other poundshop UK Stasi police, and/or imprisoned for years.
Misleading headline. She’s talking about the dangers of deifying the NHS.
Also look at this nuts analysis from Sky’s Health correspondent. “The health service is our most cherished institution. Very few people would dare to attack it.”
Almost anything now published or spoken by msm scribblers and talking heads can be discounted. If they ever cross the line into uncomfortable and “unapproved” reality, they soon lose those lucrative jobs— and they know it.

Most voters, most TV talking heads and newspaper scribblers etc have not yet caught up with me and a few of the more perceptive msm commentators (such as Tim Stanley) in understanding that, in Stanley’s words, “the [Conservative Party] brand is…just gone“, and that means that only a few habit-voters, mostly the very elderly, will be voting Con at GE 2024 or thereafter.
I notice that, in latest polling, the Conservative Party is down to 18% with one pollster.
That has happened before to the Cons, in 2019, and in relation to the brief rise and fall of Brexit Party, but not 3 weeks before a general election. In that year, I think that the Cons were down to 19% at one point.
Wow. Only 22 days to go & in the very latest polls the Conservatives are averaging just 21% of the vote! https://t.co/10FbF9m032

On a secondary point, who could have imagined, in the 1980s, that Russian roads, in the provinces at that, would be better in 2024 than any roads in the UK? Shameful.
I’m staggered that the tories are predicted to get over 100 seats in parliament. Who the hell is still voting for these parasites? #panorama
The people still voting en masse for the Conservative Party will be, as previously noted, lifelong Con habit-voters now aged 75+, who are concentrated mainly in the safest seats of southern England. In those constituencies, the not-poor and the elderly are the majority.
Having said that, my prediction, right or wrong, remains closer to 50 than 100 Con seats after 4 July 2024.

As already blogged, I do not “blame” Sunak for not remaining at the 1944 commemoration. After all, he is not, in any real way, “British” in the first place, despite having been born here and having attended Winchester and Oxford.
As for Sunak’s poll ratings, hard to see how they could go much lower. He’s on the way out. Everyone knows it; he knows it. Within 3 weeks, give or take a day or two, he will no longer be PM. Within a few months, he will have been all but forgotten, like Liz Truss.

Many people don’t.

“You might not want to hear this. Many people don’t.
I just spent the last week travelling between London, Helsinki and Tallinn.
I lived in London for many years but it has changed out of all recognition. Tallinn and Helsinki have a safe feel. Homogeneous. No “diversity barriers”. After London, it was quite a shock. You can argue about whether the changes in London are for the better or not but the kids in both Helsinki and Tallinn are skateboarding and drinking milkshakes. They are not carrying around knives and terrorising or stabbing other kids. There is space and clean streets. People are friendly – even to strangers.
London felt like it was crumbling. Closed roads everywhere. A murder minutes from where I was within 6 hours of my arrival. People seemed miserable. I want the UK to do better. To be better. But they need to change things significantly and stop the transformation of the capital city into a third world city. Anyone else agree?“
Almost all people of sense agree. 90% of white (i.e. real British) people agree, and even very many of the non-whites agree. Just a tendentious 10% of the people disagree, but that includes most of the MPs, most of the fake “Lords”, and most of the treacherous msm talking heads and scribblers. Poisonous. Get rid of them, and the UK will start to improve.
I simply don’t believe voters are inspired by @Keir_Starmer. What an utterly dismal prospect for our country. Grey in every way.
Yes. Starmer is a disaster waiting to happen; not waiting as an actor or a barrister does, prior to striding onto the stage or rising up in court, but waiting like a man in a charity-shop raincoat, waiting for a bus in the drizzle of a London winter.
Laurence Fox is, politically, a sad waste of space. Pro-Israel, basically pro-Conservative but with a few quibbles around flags and monuments and the like.
Reform UK has one main use as far as I am concerned— to help kill off the Conservative Party. A secondary use is to move the “Overton Window” [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overton_window].

…and in the middle of the alien crowd, I see the philosopher Roger Scruton, now deceased. “And then there were none“.
A couple of friends of mine in South London were friendly with Scruton, back in the mid/late 1970s. He would arrive by bicycle, in the manner of Cambridge University.
Then a fairly obscure university college lecturer at Birkbeck College (part of the University of London), though already becoming known and communing with the famous and well-connected (including Margaret Thatcher), Scruton later dropped the couple I knew for fear of being associated with them after the popular Press ran a story about how Scruton of the Salisbury Review etc was associating with “fascists” and “neo-Nazis” etc.
In other words, Scruton put career before friendship.
Having said that, Scruton was a considerable figure, sometimes honoured more in the recently ex-socialist states such as the Czech Republic —where I myself once saw a whole bookshop window of Scruton’s works in Czech— than in the UK.
That display was seen by me in Central Prague in 1999; it could not have happened when I had previously been in that city (1988); very few Western visitors were there then, and the works of Scruton (and many others) were banned.
Scruton was born into modest circumstances and, when later both famous and wealthy (as some might say, “box office“, with his high-selling books in multiple translation, and with several income-streams), he took on some of the traditional habits of the English “upper classes”, such as foxhunting, and living in country houses. He also started to take money from tobacco-lobby interests.
[Scruton’s house —2004-2009— near Sperryville, Virginia, USA]
Scruton (whom I myself never met) strikes me as having been, like many, perhaps most people, a blend of the highminded and tawdry, of the original and the very derivative, of the highly ethical and the morally-suspect.
A hugely-talented man, in any event. One could say, without it being too much of a cliché, “a Renaissance man“.
Perhaps better remembered in his works than in himself.

Just remembering there is literally a button @BootstrapCook can press on Patreon to make the amount they earn from their patrons public….
Perhaps the (at time of writing) 643 utter “mugs”, each presently donating between £3.50 and £44, and every month, might start to wake up if they saw the total income (from that source alone) of “Jack Monroe”, the so-called “Bootstrap Cook”. Somewhere between a few thousand pounds and tens of thousands, monthly.
I'd love to know which part of "questioning an unlikely story and asking for transparency on fundraising & donations, plus promised refunds to be processed in a timely manner" is criminal as Jack Monroe alleges? https://t.co/9A3zUtZnLS
“Criminal?” My idea of “criminal” is pleading poverty or (when, e.g., Tiffany earrings are noticed by alert readers) near-poverty, in order to induce people to donate thousands of pounds monthly to a private bank account, while never or rarely providing the goods and services offered, and (it is said by many) never having intended to perform; or crowdfunding in order to fund a defamation case, with no real intent to launch such a case, and later (it is alleged by many, at any rate) keeping the donated monies for private purposes.
This will only be clarified if, or when, police and/or trading standards officers and/or various regulators properly investigate the activities of “Jack Monroe”, the “Bootstrap Cook”.
No decent meal can be made for either 30p or 11p. This is reaching Monty Python levels of nonsense.

The Zelensky regime in Kiev wants NATO to weigh in on the Kiev-regime side. If that were to happen even more blatantly than is presently the case, a nuclear exchange between NATO (NWO/ZOG) and Russia will be only a matter of time.

I cannot say whether the above is a genuine cause or not; probably it is. In any case, the true cost of war is the suffering of both human beings and their companion animals.
It is bad that Ukraine, whatever the reasons, is a theatre of war. Let us make sure that the rest of Europe is not dragged into a worse, and greater, war.
One of the warmongering gay intellectuals at neo-con GBNews is shocked that Ukrainian soldiers are often happy to talk with their Russian opposite numbers. Hey, Tom, if you want a war, Ze wants foreign volunteers. Off you go, I'm sure the #Azov Nazis will find a use for you! https://t.co/tFyEzqsilU

As previously blogged, the aim in the medium-term is to get as many people as possible microchipped, probably on the arm or wrist, and get them using that system for all everyday uses: NHS, shopping, travel. Those refusing will be gradually marginalized and, ultimately, probably, detained indefinitely.
Only extreme resistance now, or soon, will prevent this in Western and Central Europe, North America, Australasia, and elsewhere.
As a control mechanism, “the virus” has done most of its job. The majority of the (eg) British population have been proven to be sheep, easily corralled and controlled; in effect, brainwashed. The facemask nonsense was key in doing that.
Of course, a properly-run society would properly punish the likes of Professor Ferguson (or, indeed, laugh at him from the start, and certainly not take him seriously).
Stray thoughts about the increasingly acrid Ukraine situation
Had the Russian forces mounted a properly-planned Blitzkrieg from the start, and thus achieved their main strategic objectives within days, toppling the Jew-Zionist Kiev regime and installing a puppet government de facto over the Kiev region, over that part of Ukraine east of the Dnieper, and over the Black Sea littoral, there would have been no time for the creation of a civilian resistance, and no time for the NWO/ZOG powers of the EU, UK, and North America to respond effectively. Also, the Ukrainian civilians would not have suffered harm, certainly not on the scale that looks likely now.
In the ancient cult of Magna Mater, the candidates for initiation had at one point to wade through a literal bath of blood. Metaphorically, that is where Putin and the Russian forces now are.
Unless they are going to abandon the operation completely, which would not only be humiliating for Putin personally but disastrous for Russia strategically, they have to press on to victory, even though any victory now will be horrible and bitter.
NATO, the EU, even usually-neutral Sweden, and others, are funnelling serious armament into Ukraine now. It will be placed at the disposal of the Kiev regime.
The ground-to-air armament flooding in may deny Russia command of the skies before very long. Even now, Russia’s air force does not seem to be being used as effectively as it could be, and certainly not as ruthlessly as the Americans use theirs.
This situation can only worsen for Russia over time. The only answer will be for Russia to destroy the Kiev regime very soon, whatever it takes. The key players have to be captured or eliminated.
I tremble for the remaining civilian population of Ukraine (and their companion animals). This should never have happened, certainly not in this way.
Supplies of food and fuel must be running out in Kiev. The odds are still in favour of the Russian invaders, if they press forward.
The Russian Army has been hugely upgraded over the past 15 years, but has shown itself incapable of proper staff work and planning. It dithered for weeks (that may have been Putin’s fault), then launched an unimpressive, sluggish and “bitty” invasion that seems to have lacked elan and rigour.
In a way, this incipient debacle is reminiscent of what happened in Karelia in 1939-40.
Stalin would have been shooting generals by now. Putin cannot do that, but he has to reinvigorate this operation before it becomes a manifest and historic defeat.
How is it that a country with (one reads) 4,500 fighter aircraft cannot dominate the skies of one that has fewer than 100?
If Putin and his generals do nothing, or if they withdraw behind Russia’s frontiers, The Kiev regime will be resupplied, its forces upgraded (all paid for by NWO/ZOG states), and before long there will be NATO or NATO-proxy forces stationed only 300 miles from Moscow (Moscow is 300 miles from the Ukrainian border at the nearest point).
The logic of the above is that the Kiev regime must now be toppled by massive force, even though a victory bought at such a price in destruction and suffering could not be other than bitter and even sickening.

Ukraine— possible developments
What if Russian forces manage to control the whole area east of the Dnieper, as well as the Kiev area and the Black Sea coast? What then?
If there is a relocation of the Kiev regime to Lvov, with control over the western part of Ukraine, then NATO and the EU will flood it with arms and training staff. Russia, and Putin especially, would then have the choice of coming to some accommodation with that government, or fighting it. The Western allies would presumably keep referring to it as the Government of Ukraine de jure, even if the Russians install a Ukraine government, de facto, in Kiev.
In fact, both such regimes would only, de facto, control about half of of the whole country. Both would be supported as “de jure” governments of the whole by, and only by, their individual patron-states.
It is hard to see any such Lvov regime accepting Russian rule over a third to a half of present Ukraine, and including Kiev. On the other hand, and on present evidence, the Russian forces would seem incapable of taking the whole country, let alone holding it.
It is easy for many to talk about Ukraine as if it is smaller than it is, but Ukraine is about the same size as France. Huge. Nearly three times the size of the whole UK.
As for Kiev, with its 3 million inhabitants, it is —depending on where administrative boundaries are drawn— about the 7th-largest city by population in Europe. Indeed, if one excludes Istanbul, Moscow, and St. Petersburg, the 4th-largest.
Of course, if one includes suburbs outside strict city limits, London and Paris have even larger populations, but that would still mean that Kiev would be the 5th-largest city in Europe (excl. cities in European Turkey and European Russia), after London, Paris, Madrid, and Berlin.
The international situation can only go down from here. On the periphery, biding its time, China…
Time to repost my blog thoughts about the potential necessity of founding a new civilization on the rubble of the old…
"…we do not only fight for the Ukraine, we fight for the New World Order. We are the shield for Europe." Look at the WEF website! https://t.co/SOSlhatIBt
As that person is saying, Russia is not, as yet anyway, flattening everything in Ukraine, whereas the American idea, seen repeatedly, is to flatten whole cities, regardless of civilian harm.
In any case, Putin does not want to take over a flattened wasteland. The way things are going, though, he may have little choice.
Again, the cold logic seems to lead to a massive attack on the locations of the Kiev regime itself, i.e. on central Kiev, with the aim of decapitating the present government and thus starting to end any mass resistance.
