The continuing storm around “Jack Monroe”, the “Bootstrap Cook”

Very hard-hitting tweets, but maybe required reading for some sadly misled people in public services, charities etc, who are still apparently unaware of the storm around “Jack Monroe”, the “Bootstrap Cook”, which gained strength in July/August 2022 and has scarcely abated.

I think that some people in executive positions at charities etc, mentally bought into the whole “Bootstrap Cook” thing many years ago, and do not want to see how it has now become a very tarnished “story”.

I myself attempted an assessment on 30 September 2022: https://ianrobertmillard.org/2022/09/30/diary-blog-30-september-2022-including-an-assessment-of-jack-monroe-aka-the-bootstrap-cook/.

Having now seen more material over the past two months, I think that that assessment was more than fair. Perhaps I was too lenient.

This is not a matter which concerns only “Jack Monroe” and the many people who are alleged to have been cheated by her. This is a matter of considerable public interest and concern.

People have to have reasonable confidence that, when they donate money to a cause, or transfer the same, in order —or partly in order— to receive goods and/or services, that they are not being lied to, bamboozled, treated as “mugs”, and cheated out of money.

One of those allegedly cheated by “Jack Monroe” is a lady (not known to me other than via her tweets) called (I believe) Heather Booth (“@frugally_minded” on Twitter), who says that she donated monies on the Patreon website to “Jack Monroe”, but received neither the goods promised nor the refund(s) later demanded.

That lady, who with her disabled husband is now in a terrible financial situation, has not only not been refunded by “Jack Monroe” but also has had to contend with online trolls since the behaviour of “Jack Monroe” has become known online. Whether “Jack Monroe” herself was involved in that, I have no idea.

Please find the details of the lady’s crowdfunder here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/heather-booth-3?utm_term=Gde7678Nq.

As to the overall “Jack Monroe”/”Bootstrap Cook” situation, it seems to me that the responsible regulatory officers (eg for fundraising and/or trading standards) should investigate it. There may well be a need also for the police to investigate whether any offences around alleged fraud have been committed.

Conservative Party

Indicates, as much as any poll can, 18-24 months before a general election, that it may be that the Conservative Party will lose badly but not catastrophically.

It was only weeks ago that the Con Party was on 20%; now 30%. Labour Party has slipped back slightly, and LibDems have slightly improved, to 10%.

Of course, under a proportional representation system, that might give the LibDems 65 MPs, whereas of course, under FPTP voting, 10% gives between 0-20, maybe more MPs, depending on how many votes are concentrated wherever. UKIP got 12% of the vote in 2015 and only 1 MP (a previously-elected Con Party MP) instead of the 78 that might have been expected under a pure PR system.

Despite much noise from Farage, it is clear that, so far, Reform UK is not breaking through. That may be partly because Farage himself is a busted flush, having stabbed his own Brexit Party supporters and candidates in the back during the 2019 General Election. Also, in my view, because the new-ish “Reform UK” is playing the same sort of pseudo-“libertarian” and Brexit tune as did Brexit Party and UKIP before.

The national mood has moved. People want public services that work, not the right to try to become low-tax “entrepreneurs”. What most white British (especially English) people want, but unconsciously, is a form of social-nationalism suited to UK conditions. There is, however, no party even approximating to that.

Looking at that opinion poll, it may be that people are now seriously starting to assess Labour, which is aping most “Conservative” policies and, as someone once parodied Starmer, “we approve of workhouses but they must be run in a fairer way, and more efficiently.”

Rachel Reeves has, over the years, repeatedly said that she would be even harder on the unemployed, sick, and disabled than have been the Con Party governments. She is also a member of Labour Friends of Israel, like Starmer and all his Shadow Cabinet.

On immigration, Labour would allow in even more blacks and browns.

On free speech, Labour would be even more restrictive (hardly surprising, bearing in mind the powerfully poisonous influence of the Jewish lobby on Labour now).

All that, however, does not let Sunak and Con Party off the hook. Many previously Con voters are likely to see the present government as a shambolic mess, and therefore to abstain, or to vote LibDem. That may not result in many (or any) new LibDem MPs, but may have an effect in some Con constituencies.

Likewise, the Reform UK candidates are probably not going to become MPs but may well take votes away from Con Party in marginal constituencies.

It is clear to many that the Government is rubbish, but that the Opposition is also rubbish.

The Conservative Party has never scored as low as 30% in any general election. The closest was in 1997 (30.7%), which resulted in 165 Con MPs (in a slightly larger Commons— 659).

A few percentage points makes a big difference at this level. In 2001, the Con vote was 31.7%, and MPs elected numbered 166, just one more than in 1997, but in 2005 the 32.4% vote-share resulted in 198 Con MPs (in a 646-member House of Commons).

In 2010, David Cameron-Levita’s Con Party achieved only 36.1%, but had elected 306 MPs (out of 650).

The oddity of British elections is shown by the fact that, in 2017, Theresa May’s Con Party achieved 42.3%, yet only had elected 317 Con MPs (out of 650). The devil is very much in the detail.

In 2019, Boris Johnson’s Con Party received a 43.6% vote, not much more than in 2017, but the number of Con MPs jumped to 365.

All the same, once the percentage vote goes below about 35%, the number of MPs elected starts to plummet; below 30% would probably mean fewer than 150 Conservative Party MPs, below 25% a near wipeout.

At 30%, then, the Conservative Party is still just about in the game.

Little Matt Hancock

I wrote the following assessment of “deadhead MP” Matt Hancock over three years ago, long before he betrayed his constituents by accepting £400,000 to go on the so-called “reality” (i.e. unreality) show I’m A Celebrity— Get Me Out of Here:

Looking at that assessment again, I have to say that it has held up rather well despite having been written over three years ago, in September 2019.

The Church of England’s latest low point

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-11473075/PETER-HITCHENS-does-Church-England-knee-football.html.

The leadership of that Church, always the first to surrender to the spirit of the age, has even advised vicars to avoid having carol services on the Sunday before Christmas in case they clash with some football tournament now raging in the Middle East.

A document called Making The Most Of The World Cup Final 18th December 2022, says: ‘Churches often hold carol services in the afternoon or evening, and this could still be possible if you choose the time carefully… but what if there are penalties?! It may be best to avoid that day altogether and host a carol service on Saturday 17 instead.’

And the grotesque Nativity play, called Greatest Of All Time, is one of ‘just a few ideas for how you could use the World Cup as a missional tool this Advent and Christmas’. I am not making this up.”

[Peter Hitchens, in the Mail on Sunday]

Pathetic bastards. They, and the Vicar of Dibley types (and/or the slab-faced lesbian “priestesses”) now found everywhere should each be issued with a toothbrush and a section of pavement to clean, as a penance.

Incidentally, the Mail is now “allowing” comments on Hitchens’ column, albeit “moderated” (monitored and censored), for the first time. Perhaps the “Overton Window” is moving a little…

The Guardians

I have continued to watch The Guardians, for the first time since it was shown in 1971. Worth seeing. It should be put on again, perhaps on some nostalgia channel such as Talking Pictures TV:

To my mind, the series was better in its first half-dozen episodes; the final two episodes (12 and 13) are a little too talky, a little contrived too, and the ending was not so plausible, but overall the series was quite creditable, if very much of its time.

Chris Skidmore and others flee Parliament

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/nov/26/chris-skidmore-ninth-tory-mp-to-set-exit-plan-as-party-hit-with-dire-opinion-polls.

I never liked what I saw or read of Skidmore. Good riddance. Seems that his more senior colleagues also thought him pretty useless.

As with so many attention-seekers, “leaving Twitter” turned out to be a brief respite. As Basil Fawlty once said, “blink, and you’d miss it…as you did“.

Tricksters, whether in the field of “poverty porn” or Parliament, are destroying public confidence in what the people see and hear. Corrosive of trust generally.

Late tweets seen

Since I assessed Jack Monroe/Bootstrap Cook on the blog nearly 2 months ago, I have watched the debate about her unfold (it started in late July).

One thing that occurred to me, looking at some Twitter accounts, is that (in my opinion) several of those accounts supporting her fervently are, in fact “Jack Monroe” herself. That is purely my opinion, though based on a number of factors. The impression given is that, while many tweeters are critical of Jack Monroe, others, of various kinds, support her. Somehow, much of it does not ring true, though I concede that that is my opinion, and not something that I can call established fact.

I am puzzled why people should decide that, out of all the “good causes” out there, the one that they want to support —to the tune of anywhere between £3.50 and £44 a month each— is a young woman whose parents are apparently rather affluent, who already has several sources of income, and who is hugely better-off financially than millions of people in this country.

All that Jewish-lobby puppet and Pakistani Muslim apostate Sajid Javid wants is more power for the State, to repress the views of social-nationalism. A horrible little NWO/ZOG drone.

Neither does the corrupt Jew-Zionist dictator Zelensky. Almost funny: I saw a tweet from one of his American supporters applauding the fact that the Kiev-regime government “is 80% Jewish“.

There is truth in both points of view. Even accepting that defence is or will be necessary, a few small arms will not be very effective defence against a modern state armed with jets, helicopters, drones, tanks, armoured cars etc, not to mention large numbers of trained soldiers and police.

Ha ha. Just imagine future historians trying to work out why the Jewess Monica Lewinsky had 1.2M Twitter “followers” in 2022, when basically all she is known for is sucking her employer’s **** a few times, 40 years ago. Society is just mad, now, and that is nowhere more obvious, usually, than in the USA.

Even Ireland has gone mad.

The enemies of civilization will do anything to stop it being known or accepted that almost everything worthwhile in the world today comes from the European or, more accurately, the Aryan and post-Aryan.

Arguing or “debating” with the enemies of our culture and civilization is a waste of time. We are not in a debate but in a war, albeit a slow-burn race-culture war.

Saturday quiz

Well, another victory this week over political journalist John Rentoul: I scored 8/10, beating his 6/10. I admit that a couple were lucky guesses, notably the answer to question 6.

I did not know the answers to questions 8 and 9, the latter particularly galling because my blog post about the following by-election has proven very popular with readers. I could picture the errant MP, knew which constituency he represented, and almost got the name, but not quite.

The last tweet is close to my opinion, having observed, but not closely, the “Bootstrap Cook” phenomenon over the past decade. I think —obviously my own opinion— that “Jack Monroe” was at least basically sincere before she realized that there was real money to be made “in them thar hills“. Since then, her claims have become less plausible, and in some cases extraordinary. To what extent her admitted heavy drinking (she now claims to have become a non-drinker) and alleged drug-taking played a part must be a subject for conjecture.

There are still many people around who continue to take “Jack Monroe” at face value. As of today, there are still 667 mugs paying money to her for absolutely nothing in return (it is alleged), via the Patreon website. Between £3.50 and £44 a month, every month. Do the maths, as people say.

OK, but one has to ask what Germany gets out of this. Not even cultural influence, if the courses are being taught in English, though that is, I concede, arguable.

Also, if the students are black or brown, i.e. from less-developed parts of the world, they may eventually decide to find some way to stay on, such as marrying German women and so further diluting the gene-pool. Ah…maybe that is why the System in Germany is promoting this— it must be part of the working out of the Coudenhove-Kalergi Plan.

More tweets

It seems to me that, probably, the “Jack Monroe”/”Bootstrap Cook” career as a mass media sort-of “celebrity” is at or near its finish, though this country is now so screwed that one can never be sure.

Having said that, the 667 mugs on Patreon show no sign of ceasing to subsidize her lifestyle, so she is still getting between £2,334.50 and £29,348 each and every month from that source alone, in cash, and possibly/probably taxfree.

I find it quite likely that “Bootstrap Cook” will carry on at a lower-profile level, in the pseudo-socialist, affluent semi-“celebrity” niche, along with numerous others, such as Owen Jones, Billy Bragg, and the like.

Hang them high! Only joking. Well, sort-of…

As the Germans say, “put beggars on horses and they ride them to death“.

I have no idea whether any of the “pedo” aspect is true, but I have just noticed that “@DaveAFAF”, a pseudonymous Twitter account which has been pointlessly trolling me for almost a decade (under that name and also under its former name of “@slatfascists”), seems to have suddenly disappeared. If gone for good, good riddance. That tweeter is mentally-unstable, and particularly so when it forgets to take its prescribed medication (as it once admitted on Twitter).

Not an unknown phenomenon on “antifa” Twitter: see https://ianrobertmillard.org/2019/07/18/theyre-coming-to-take-me-away-ha-ha/.

Several of those mentioned in the 2019 blog post above are now suffering more seriously, and from not only mental but also physical ailments; some are even living out their last days. When will they learn?

More tweets

I have already blogged to the effect that many of the recipes of “Jack Monroe”, as photographed and then published on Twitter, make me feel unwell just looking at them.

I have just watched that clip, which was broadcast about two years ago. Not something I would normally waste time watching. Strange idea of a show about cuisine, though— a presenter chef (?) who is cooking strips of fish coated in crushed cornflakes, another (I presume genuine) chef but who had apparently lost his sense(s) of taste and smell; then, as a final bad joke, “Jack Monroe”/”Bootstrap Cook”, who seems to be unable to contribute anything at all (from the brief clip shown, about 10 mins in all) to the discussion.

I wonder how much that kind of nonsense pays? I mean to the guests. At a guess, maybe £500 or so. Maybe even £1,000. If so, “a nice little earner” to add to the rest.

Having said that, I have seen people online claiming that most guests on Saturday Kitchen and similar shows do not get paid at all but do it for the publicity, which makes sense. After all, if the TV people were offering even £500 for a short appearance, presumably they could get better, more interesting, guests. From the point of view of the guests, too, it makes sense, if some viewers thereby are persuaded that you are a person worth reading online and/or donating money to…

She is apparently talking about the Government. She does not want to “hand over the details of 1000s of vulnerable people, explicit info about their benefit claims...[etc]” to the Government which…has all that information anyway (on DWP and/or HMRC computer —and other— files). In other words, she is once again talking nonsense.

This is the blog investigation mentioned above in that @AwfullyMolly tweet: https://awfullymolly.com/2022/11/26/jack-monroe-2020-part-3/

I have come to the conclusion that “Jack Monroe” is not a very nice person…(except that she may or may not be an animal-lover; if she is, then good, as far as that goes).

By the way, though I am not a dentist, I am told by someone who saw the Saturday Kitchen clip that “Jack Monroe” has at least 6 “very expensive” dental implants. Maybe £15,000. Why she has them (assuming that the opinion I heard is accurate), I have no idea. Eating mineral and/or vitamin-deficient food? Or is there, er, another explanation?

What I have learned about “Jack Monroe”/”Bootstrap Cook” since I blogged about her at the end of September makes me think that I was far too kind in that assessment (always my weakness): see https://ianrobertmillard.org/2022/09/30/diary-blog-30-september-2022-including-an-assessment-of-jack-monroe-aka-the-bootstrap-cook/.

I should be blogging about larger issues, but I could not ignore what seems to have been sheer brazen “taking-advantage” of people, including very vulnerable people.

Late tweets seen

For me, the point is not so much that “Jack Monroe” has constructed what Soviet Intelligence used to call a “legend”, i.e. an embellished or untrue “backstory”, or whether she ever was really “poor”, but the fact that she is taking somewhere between £2,300 a month and as much as, at max, £30,000 a month from people via Patreon, has plainly not supplied the goods and services offered (at least to most donors) and, equally plainly (even after 4 months of public criticism), has no intention whatever of refunding those donors, many of whom seem to have been genuinely poor (unlike “Jack Monroe”, who might have been described, arguably, as “poor” for a few months, maybe a year, years ago).

I might add that I myself have seen, over the past two months, when I have been looking, not even one tweet saying that that tweeter had donated to “Jack Monroe” via Patreon and then received whatever was promised for that level of financial support, and/or was happy with it.

“Happy Holidays” was invented by Jewish retailers in New York City, who did not want to have to recognize Christmas. They justified “Happy Holidays” by lumping Christmas in with the Jewish festival of Hanukkah [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanukkah], which is a Jewish-supermacist festival, totally different in ethos to Christmas (read the Wikipedia article above), and then adding to that the ludicrous and contrived “African-American” festival of “Kwanza” [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwanzaa] invented in 1966 by a half-caste criminal who now calls himself “Maulana Karenga” [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maulana_Karenga].

As Wikipedia puts it:

Hanukkah[a] (/ˈhɑːnəkə/Hebrew: חֲנֻכָּה‎, Modern:Ḥanukka, Tiberian:Ḥănukkālisten) is a Jewish festival commemorating the recovery of Jerusalem and subsequent rededication of the Second Temple at the beginning of the Maccabean revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century BCE.[3][4]

There it is. An ethnic and political revolt, leading to a military victory. Totally different, in fact arguably the polar opposite, to Christmas, with the latter’s message of peace on Earth.

The above tweet is from a lady whose husband developed an awful and painful condition, as a result of which he and she both lost their jobs and were plunged into poverty. She paid out monies to “Jack Monroe”, the “Bootstrap Cook”, then (apparently because the items to be provided in return were never supplied) asked for a refund, but was fobbed off. A circumstance common to many who have sent monies to “Jack Monroe”, it seems (reading tweets about it all).

A very worthwhile crowdfunder. If some of those who read this blog were to give even £5 each, the lives of that couple would be greatly transformed.

Incidentally, I do not know the couple personally.

After everything recently exposed, thick Labour frontbencher Angela Rayner is following “Jack Monroe” on Twitter? Very misguided, in view of the continuing controversy.

That “@AntheaRogers” Twitter account has been accused of being a “Jack Monroe” “sock-account”. Maybe.

There is obviously a need for an investigation by competent agencies or orgnaizations into the whole “Jack Monroe” thing, especially the money and/or fundraising aspects.

It is only when you consider what else the UK government could get for £37 BILLION that you comprehend the sheer scale of the wastage. For example, completed cost of about 12 new aircraft carriers like these two:

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth-class_aircraft_carrier

Or funding for the entire NHS for 3 months.

Or funding for the whole of the British Army for about 10 months.

Worked in NHS for about a year. Now plays on the “doctor” thing to make money as supposed “activist”; was selling facemasks etc online.

Organizations need to be more cautious before allying themselves with people who may not be quite what they seem, as in the notorious Jimmy Saville case.

According to Viktor Suvorov [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Suvorov], the Soviet-era Spetsnaz used to joke that “when the real Revolution comes, we shall not kill the rich, and we shall not kill those who spout about ‘social justice’, but only kill the rich who spout about ‘social justice’.

Makes you think…

Diary Blog, 23 November 2022, including a brief overview of the upcoming City of Chester by-election

Morning music

On this day a year ago

City of Chester by-election

I was going to publish a separate piece about the upcoming by-election, but have decided that that would not be merited.

Chester, as a settlement, has a history going back to 79 AD, when it was established as a Roman fortress: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester.

The City of Chester constituency also has a very old history, going back to the times of Henry VIII. In modern times, meaning 19th/20th centuries, it has mostly been a Conservative/Unionist seat, though electing Labour Party candidates in 1997, 2001, 2005, 2015, 2017, and 2019. Two Labour MPs in that time, with a Conservative in the years 2010-2015: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Chester_(UK_Parliament_constituency).

The by-election will be held on 1 December 2022, 8 days from today, and is the first by-election in the constituency since 1956.

The MP from 2015 to 2022 had to resign by reason of sexual scandal.

The candidates declared are: Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat; also, Reform UK, Green, Freedom Alliance, UKIP, Rejoin EU, and the inevitable Monster Raving Loony.

This is likely to be a straight fight between Lab and Con, looking at previous elections. The LibDems have in the past scored as high as 21.9% (in 2005); since 2010 they have always received less than 10% of the vote (6.8% in 2019), and have never managed better than 3rd place (even in 2005).

Labour, nationwide, is clearly on a roll at present, if only by default. The latest YouGov poll (on 17 November 2022) of (UK-wide) voting intention put Labour on 48%, Conservative 25%, LibDem 10%, and both Green and Reform UK on 5%.

Despite the scandal attaching to the former MP, I cannot see that affecting the result. As a matter of fact, both Con and Lab are putting up female candidates, though that may be co-incidental.

There seems little to prevent Labour winning this by-election, and winning it easily. Not only is the present Con government extremely unpopular, but Labour has, after all, won in this constituency the past three times, and held it for 20 out of the past 25 years.

I cannot see the LibDems getting far here, even as some kind of unfocussed protest vote. As for Reform UK, the only other contender of interest, they may or may not save their deposit. I could see them, just about, getting 5%; I cannot see them getting 10% or more, especially now that Brexit is not so popular, having been badly mishandled over the past 6 years.

The main interest in the contest will be in the percentage(s) of the vote received by the two main contenders.

[Update, 2 December 2022: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Chester_(UK_Parliament_constituency)#Elections_in_the_2020s. A good win for Labour, as expected. My commentary on the result will be posted on the blog pages for 2 December 2022]

Looks as though the “Jack Monroe”/”Bootstrap Cook” star is rapidly waning.

The above tweet was about the “@GuardianLive” tweet featuring “Jack Monroe” as booked to appear on a podcast event in early 2023, which tweet has now been deleted. Now we hear that that podcast itself has been axed.

Seems that “Jack Monroe” is, as predicted, becoming “mad, bad, and dangerous to know“…

Even so, the 667 “mugs” on Patreon are, as of today, still giving her their monthly donations for doing absolutely nothing except maintaining her lifestyle, e.g. buying herself luxury goods. Somewhere between c.£2,300 a month and (at maximum) £40,000 a month. In reality, probably about £6,000, at an educated guess. In cash (minus Patreon fees), and every single month. All that and she still poses as a “champion of the poor“! Hard to believe that so many people are so very gullible; yet they have been told now for three or four months that they are just wasting their money.

More tweets

As said previously on the blog, I myself have no objection to Scotland declaring faux-“independence”, but those voting for it must accept lower living standards, and an end to UK subsidy.

As the tweeter says, just look at them! Can they really bring Scotland a new dawn? I think not.

As for Nicola Sturgeon, she is a ghastly little would-be dictator with no interesting ideas (that I have seen).

The flotsam and jetsam of the world is assisted to come here, destroying our society, and is kept in comfort (most of them), while British people suffer. Not only mad, but also evil. [Coudenhove-Kalergi Plan].

Whatever the relevance of that, can anyone look at those uninspiring people and imagine that they will be able to usher in a new age of prosperity and enlightenment in Scotland?

In any case, it seems that Scotland is still split about 50-50 on “Independence”, with possibly more wanting to retain the Union.

However, even if there were a small majority for “Independence”, would that be valid, really? To drag the other, say 45%, into an unwanted break with England and the other regions or countries? After over 300 years?

Of course, the absurd playground taunts of the two sides in the present conflict (“you are the ‘Nazi'”; “no, you are the ‘Nazi’“) are just silly.

Actually, the German Army in WW2, despite the pitiless nature of that war in the East, behaved well, mostly, in Ukraine, certainly better than the Red Army. Most atrocities were committed either by the Red Army (or by the forces travelling alongside them— the NKVD and, latterly, Smersh), or by Ukrainian auxiliaries under overall German command, or by Ukrainian civilians who just wanted to eliminate Jews, and who acted without either order or permission.

I have blogged in the past a few times about how I met, in or about 1995, the then Ukrainian Ambassador to London, H.E. Ambassador Komissarenko [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serhiy_Komisarenko], a biochemist by training, who went with me and his Scientific Attache in the ambassadorial limousine to Porton Down, Wiltshire [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porton_Down], to meet a scientific team based there. He later headed a major such laboratory in Ukraine, I think not far from Kiev.

The “Covid” hysteria, “lockdowns”, “working from home” in the barely functioning NHS, maladministration, and then the huge and unwanted influx of non-white migrant-invaders and other immigrants over the past many years.

Re. “Jack Monroe”:

The “Jack Monroe”/”Bootstrap Cook” storm shows no sign of abating, with more and more stories coming out about vulnerable and actually poor people (i.e. unlike “Jack Monroe”) being, in effect, fleeced.

What was her fee? Or did she do it for the publicity and msm “validation”?

Same thing happened with the threat(s) by “Jack Monroe”/”Bootstrap Cook” to sue (in defamation) MP Lee Anderson and political commentator Martin Daubney. It appears that (so far— she has about 5 months or so left in which to launch an action, in principle), not only has no legal process been launched, but there has been no pre-action correspondence as mandated by the Pre-Action Protocols of the Civil Procedure Rules. Chances are that “Bootstrap Cook” never will sue those two, or anyone else.

The Katie Hopkins case was different. Ms. Hopkins had no arguable defence and was a sitting duck. “Jack Monroe” got £24,000 damages, while the claimant’s lawyers got, in effect, Ms. Hopkin’s house, that had to be sold in order to satisfy the costs order made. About £300,000.

Ha ha. Of all the products from the “Jack Monroe” fantasy factory, the “I was so poor that I had to boil down soap to make shower gel” (and/or “shampoo“) claim must be among the top few in the utterly-ludicrous stakes. It actually makes me wonder whether she makes up ever-more-fantastical stories just to see where the gullibility of her supporters stops; meaning at what point do they wake up to such lies, and/or stop donating to her (lifestyle)?

I suppose that it is just possible that she actually did boil down soap to make shower gel, mad and implausible though that would be; in my opinion, she never did.

I myself like Waitrose Sea Moss shower gel. It costs 90p for a bottle that lasts maybe 3 weeks (with me, at least; used once daily). No-one is going to tell me that buying soap, boiling it somehow, despite energy cost, and then somehow making shower gel out of it (is that even possible?) is cheaper than spending about 30p a week on proper shower gel. Also, Sea Moss from Waitrose is not even the cheapest; no doubt Aldi, Lidl, Tesco have even cheaper alternatives.

Or one could just shower with soap, as did previous generations.

Same goes, mutatis mutandis, for shampoo, except that soap would not be so good in that role.

What I find incredible is how long she has been able to keep this going. It says a lot about how poor the UK msm is that no journalist has thought to investigate her claims or to find out which (if any) are actually true. And where are the “consumer watchdog” journalists and TV talking heads? Hundreds if not thousands of people appear to have been duped or bamboozled into sending money— tens, and maybe hundreds, of thousands of pounds.

Meanwhile, millions of people are in real poverty and get nothing, or very little.

Advice from what seems to me to be a rotten cook (not that I can cook much either, admittedly) about how to make curry by opening a tin of sardines and a can of peaches, mixing the two together with curry powder and heating the mixture in a microwave, is not very helpful, in my opinion. Frankly, it sounds terrible. I would rather open the sardines, put them on a piece of toast, then eat the peaches separately later. In fact, I should prefer a plain baked potato to that mixture.

Ha. In fact the “award” mentioned was an “Observer Food” award a few months ago, voted for by Observer readers, few of whom are “poor” or “struggling”. In fact, the voters are exactly the same sort of people (and quite likely the very same people) who support “Jack Monroe” vocally on Twitter. The Guardian is of course the sister paper to the Observer.

Activism“, meaning “promoting oneself as a campaigner, and making a lucrative career out of it“…

Britain must become a white northern European ethnostate (again).

It is not, fundamentally, a question of “hate” but based on the concept that only the European peoples can provide the basis for the next advance in human evolution.

667 “mugs” and/or dupes, as of today; thousands of pounds month after month, in cash (minus Patreon fees).

“Jack Monroe” is not a lawyer, and not a consumer law expert or anything similar. Her only known job (as far as I know anyway) was answering the telephone at a fire station or call centre, and that ended about 11 years ago. Her “Bootstrap Cook” thing is far more lucrative, it seems.

People in financial trouble need accurate advice, from trusted sources.

As of today, 667 “patrons” (mugs and/or those who are unaware of the storm now enveloping the “Bootstrap Cook”); I believe that there were over 800 earlier in the year.

As blogged earlier, only in a country where real journalism is all but dead would someone be able to do all that without facing serious questions after a while.

Still, look at “Boris”-idiot, who was able to fool much of the UK that he was a highly-intelligent, cultured, and serious, statesman, when none of those three are true (four things, if you include “statesman“). All it took was the fact that he had attended Eton and Oxford, and the expression of a few rote-learned Greek and Latin phrases. He also was “enabled” by a corrupt and stupid msm.

Late tweets

I have to say that —as readers have noticed— I am now far less favourable to “Jack Monroe” than I once was, or even since I published my assessment of her on 30 September 2022: see https://ianrobertmillard.org/2022/09/30/diary-blog-30-september-2022-including-an-assessment-of-jack-monroe-aka-the-bootstrap-cook/.

Incidentally, I thought that the monthly maximum that “Jack Monroe” was extracting from each of her “patrons” (mugs) on Patreon had been reduced to £10, but it turns out that £44 is still the max. Her monthly take-home pay from that source alone, for doing absolutely nothing, is therefore between £2,334.50 and £29,348, minus the Patreon fees, if any. In cash. Every month.

On this day a year ago

The continuing “Jack Monroe”/”Bootstrap Cook” Twitterstorm

I personally cannot judge as to whether, or to what extent, “Jack Monroe” is “sad, bad, or mad“, in the well-known phrase. Maybe a bit mad and a bit bad…but that is just my opinion, based on what I have read, and 66 years of life-experience.

The more I read about “Jack Monroe”, the more I think “bad” rather than “mad”, in fact.

As I have blogged previously, some of the photos seen on Twitter of the food made from the recipes of the “Bootstrap Cook” seem to be a “dog’s dinner” at best; some have made me feel actually unwell. I don’t mean when made and eaten (I would not make stuff like that anyway, still less ingest it) but just the mere sight of her “food” on Twitter.

I concede that I am not very domesticated and, until I married for the first time (in 1990), had mainly eaten cold food when dining at home (in my twenties and early thirties). In fact, I am still not much of a cook, though I can offer to my readers the following idea, which is relatively cheap, rather tasty, fairly healthy (though admittedly rather high-fat) and, best of all, can be made from start to finish in about 45 mins:

https://www.bestrecipes.com.au/recipes/vegetarian-zucchini-slice-recipe/uf45jukn

That “zucchini bake” can be added to; you can add whatever vegetables are around— mushrooms, broccoli (inc. stalks, if grated or sliced), carrots etc. The only essentials are eggs, butter, zucchini/courgettes, salt, pepper, and cheese (any kind, but cheddar works well, maybe with some parmesan). Some basil helps.

I do not think I shall make a regular thing out of suggesting recipes. I would probably run out of the things that I myself have actually made in my whole life after a week or two. Still, I hope that the above is useful for someone.

About £5 to serve 4 people, or one person four times. Basic, yes, but I think that it stacks up pretty well against the offerings of “Jack Monroe”…

…and the £24,000 award she collected from her libel case against Katie Hopkins…

I looked at a few tweets by that stupid “Susan Macpark” woman. A Scottish pseudo-“nationalist” who, however, supports migration-invasion by backward non-whites. Crazy. She often flings vituperation at others, either tweeting that their parents must despise them, or simply insulting their intelligence (despite the unthinking tweets that she herself puts out).

That Macpark bitch will not give a penny. Guaranteed.

As to “Jack Monroe”, I have no idea whether she will return to Twitter (more likely than not, because she can then plough on, publicizing her stuff to those who are unwilling to question; she will simply try to ignore the gathering storm), or whether she will just think “well, I have £2,000-£7,000 a month coming in from 600-700 mugs on Patreon, plus maybe another few thousand from other sources, so why bother with Twitter?

An open question.

As far as that specific building is concerned, I do not entirely agree. Architecture should be about both form and function. The form, in this case is (in my opinion) not so different in both cases, and I expect (though I have never been inside) that the function is better (for today’s purposes) in the replacement building. Admittedly, it is rather ugly, but so was, in my view, the building that it replaced.

Famous missionary explorer David Livingstone was a bit like that.

“...and I can’t understand why she does it“? Really? how about “because she is getting £2,000-£7,000 a month for free, from (as of today) 667 mugs, for doing absolutely nothing but proclaiming that she is (in some unspecified way) ‘campaigning’ etc)”

Yet the 667 mugs (as of today) are still paying out £3.50-£10 —or more— each month to her, incredibly.

Oh what a tangled web we weave/When first we practice to deceive” [Sir Walter Scott, Marmion, A Tale of Flodden Field].

Ha ha! Incredible, yet at the same time almost inevitable. The “Bootstrap Cook” wanders lonely as a cloud through Southend or nearby, only to meet someone, by Fate or chance, who will no doubt (in this fairy-tale) “gift” “Jack Monroe” everything she needs or wants for the decoration of her new home.

Well, I am myself rather susceptible to tales of wonder and magic —and sometimes incredible “co-incidences” do happen— but, having now read a number of conflicting fantasies from the tweets etc of “Jack Monroe” (tweeted or said to interviewers over the past decade), I think it only fair and sensible to doubt this one (too).

So long as 667 mugs continue to shell out up to £10 monthly for absolutely nothing but to be part of the “Jack Monroe support echelon” or virtue-signal club, she will be laughing all the way to the bank (or the paint and wallpaper shop), even if (as no doubt will now happen) the msm “Bootstrap Cook” career on TV, radio, and in the Press ends, with the producers, journalists, and publishers running for cover (as I expect they already are).

The whole “Jack Monroe” supporters’ clan/defensiveness thing on Twitter reminds me of those who even now insist on wearing a useless facemask.

“Amelia” is very typical of many in the UK today: wants to tick the “right” boxes, and believes any old crap if the “right” (pseudo-socialist) noises are made. She favours Owen Jones! (‘Nuff said…). See also: https://ianrobertmillard.org/2019/01/04/a-brief-word-about-owen-jones/.

The allegation now is that “Jack Monroe” is using dozens of “sock accounts” to interact on Twitter while pretending to have left (having deleted, for the (?) time being her main “@BootstrapCook” account).

Seems plausible to me, looking at the myriad of Twitter accounts with zero or few “followers” that have popped up in the past days and weeks, all attacking critics of “Monroe”.

Saw an extract, about a minute long, of a TV comedy/drama called The Larkins, a remake or re-adaptation of the well-known 1980s series The Darling Buds of May. Typical ludicrous rubbish.

We hear much about “cultural appropriation“, but our own culture and indeed history is being taken over, basically stolen from us. Behind all of this nonsense, really, is the (((you-know-who)))…

He has a point. Major utilities (water, electricity, gas etc) and railways should, in general, be under public control. Oil companies might be more difficult, but had Britain, from the 1970s onward, done what Norway did, and used North Sea oil and gas for national purposes, we would all be better off now.

Very true. I have blogged a few times about how uncertain life can be, especially for those without much back-up by way of family money or inherited capital: see, eg, https://ianrobertmillard.org/2022/08/25/diary-blog-25-august-2022-with-a-few-thoughts-about-poverty-and-living-through-hard-times/.

Jack Monroe/”Bootstrap Cook” latest

As far as I myself am concerned, I blog as accurately as I can about people, if individuals are mentioned. My material is true in the sense of accurate, and/or is covered by one or another of the several defences to libel known to law; besides which, I am extremely impecunious these days, have only the smallest income, do not own a house (even mortgaged) and so am, in effect, as good as unsueable.

I can guarantee that anyone launching an action against me will lose out: probably the action would fail anyway, and even if it did not, the claimant would end up with massive and completely irrecoverable costs.

I write whatever I like, but take care to be both accurate and fair.

On Twitter, every Tom, Dick, and Harry is an “expert” on the law, and especially defamation law; few really are.

It’s pretty obvious that there is enough suspicion to validate a police fraud investigation, to discover whether any crimes have been committed.

The brainwashing taking place in UK schools (mainly but not entirely in State-run schools) is indeed appalling. It has been going on for several decades, but has been intensifying. At the same time, standards of real education and knowledge have been falling.

While some people compare the situation in the UK to the Weimar Republic, that unpleasant and decadent time in German history lasted for only 14 years (1919 to 1933), whereas the UK version has been happening for a far longer period, at least 30 years, and arguably over 50 years.

Not that I like Churchill’s effect on British history (in particular, the crazy war against the German Reich, which destroyed the British Empire and all other European empires, and created the mess the world is in today), but he is undeniably a major historical figure, and I should not like to see the statue in question removed.

Jews always talk about “members of their family“, or even “relatives” supposedly being killed during WW2. Even leaving aside the main assertion, since when are people who (supposedly) died about 80 years ago called “relatives” of quite young people now living?

As for the young or other people now living being (pretending to be) hugely upset by the (presumed) deaths of people whom they never knew anyway, it really is so much bs. Non-Jews, especially white European people, don’t usually (in fact hardly ever) do that.

I must investigate having my old Twitter account returned (complete with new blue tick), both to promote my blog and to mightily p*** off (((the usual suspects))), who put in years of effort making faked complaints to get me expelled in 2018.

Not so good this week: 4/10, the same as political journalist John Rentoul. I did not know the answers to questions 1, 5, 7, 8. 9, and 10 (though in the back of my mind I sort-of “knew” 9 and 10).

I think that there are fairly empty areas even within that eastern sector.

Interesting. Is the actually quite laughable Sunak/Con propaganda, blaming Russia and Putin for Britain’s past ~15 years of economic mismanagement, working? Or is it that only 6% blame Sunak’s government because it is a. new, and b. seen as irrelevant?

Either way, it does not translate into Con votes, not on its own. I see that 29% either blamed others than the ones shown, or did not know who to blame, and that fewer than 6% anyway blame any sort of “Labour”. Unsurprising, when Labour has not been in government since early 2010.

Also, turns out that Liz Truss is proving a useful scapegoat for Sunak, with 21% of those asked blaming her, and (presumably) Kwasi Kwarteng (aka Woollyhead Trussbanger), for the present difficulties.

What is amazing is how many tweeters are still apparently supportive of the “Bootstrap Cook”. From what I have seen, many appear to be virtue-signalling and/or dim women (not a few with mental health problems), and possibly eccentric older men. Few if any under 30, and most well over 50. Few, if any, “poor” or “struggling”. Most are apparently rather comfortably-off.

As of today, 667 “patrons” are wasting their money (up to £10 a month, every month) on “Jack Monroe” via the Patreon website, so she is receiving up to £6,670 per month in cash (minus any Patreon fees) from that source alone.

Of course, only the “Bootstrap Cook” knows how much her income is. If the 667 Patreon donors are all giving only £3.50 a month, then the monthly total reduces to £2,334.50, minus Patreon fees, if any. At least £2,000 in cash, anyway, every month.

Not a fortune, but “a nice little earner” all the same, as people are said to say. Especially when one considers that added to that are any other income sources, such as book royalties (she has 7 books in print, including a new one coming out in January 2023), any appearance fees or other msm payments, and any other and smaller payments such as Child Benefit (about £95 a month for one child).

I have long ago ceased to expect sense from most people, but the “let’s give money to ‘Jack Monroe’” thing is egregious even so, especially when many of those giving almost certainly have less money than her.

I wondered how long it would be before assertions of either physical illness or mental collapse would be wheeled out. Together with allegations that those on Twitter who are asking, inter alia, “where did the money go?“, are “bullying” her, or engaging in abuse and/or “harassment”.

There may be some truth in her above tweets (about her being stressed etc), but what strikes me is how there is still no addressing of the main allegations many have made against her: Patreon donors who were in many or most cases neither supplied with anything promised, nor with refunds requested; misuse of donations for various purposes given to her, including the “libel case” crowdfunder (supposedly to be used for an action against Conservative Party MP Lee Anderson and/or political commentator Martin Daubney).

If (and she does still have, in extremis, 5 months or so left in which to bring a claim) there is no claim brought against Lee Anderson, and if the monies raised for the legal costs are not (as I read was promised) in that event given to charity, the “Bootstrap Cook” might find herself in real trouble. A black woman in Bristol is awaiting possible Crown Court trial on allegations that she, said black woman, crowdfunded for a legal action or actions but then just kept those monies for her own use.

In fact, “Bootstrap Cook” has not mentioned, as far as I have seen, the Daily Mail report (easygoing though it was) about her: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11403551/Row-anti-poverty-campaigner-Jack-Monroe-detractors-flares-up.html.

I notice that, after only 3 comments from readers, the Daily Mail closed down further comment.

I have to say that, as far as I am concerned, those who donate to the woman thinking that they, the donors, are somehow engaging in activism against the present government and/or “poverty” generally, have a screw or two loose somewhere. All that they are doing is supporting the lifestyle of someone who firstly is really not “poor”, not by any realistic standard, but who also has a father —living in the same town— who apparently owns quite a number of buy-to-let properties. Presumably, the “Bootstrap Cook” has very considerable inheritance expectations somewhere down the line.

Still, as said previously, the behaviour of many people is often almost unfathomable.

In case readers missed my late comment yesterday re. the “missile hits Poland” report:

Either this incident was accidental, or the explosions are a false flag by the Zelensky regime, created to drag NATO into war with Russia. Either way, it was plainly not a deliberate attack on Poland, and thus should not trigger Article 5 of the NATO treaty.

In any case, now that states such as Poland, the Baltic states etc belong to NATO (which should never have happened), Article 5 should be abrogated. It is now nothing less than a dangerous trigger mechanism which may put all of Europe (and quite possible both the USA and Russia as well) to sword and flame.

This situation has been caused, at root, by the reckless NATO support for the Kiev regime. This is not our fight, and never has been.

Latest news:

Reuters is reporting that a Nato source has informed the new agency that US president Joe Biden has informed the alliance that the missile that fell into Poland, killing two people, was a Ukrainian air defence missile.”

[Guardian]

Russia defence ministry: missile claims ‘deliberate provocation’, wreckage ‘identified’ as Ukrainian S-300

The Russian defence ministry is issuing a robust statement denying involvement in the explosion in Poland.

Reuters has snapped the following key lines:

  • Russia says it carried out a massive attack on military targets and energy infrastructure in Ukraine on Tuesday.
  • The strike achieved its goals.
  • High-precision strikes were carried out only on Ukrainian territory and no closer than 35km (22 miles) from the Ukrainian-Polish border.
  • Allegations of Russian missiles falling in the Polish village are a deliberate provocation to escalate the situation.
  • Photos of the wreckage found in Poland are identified as elements of the Ukrainian S-300

[Guardian]

As I commented late yesterday, quite likely a “false flag” operation by the Kiev regime of the Jew Zelensky. The Kiev regime is desperate to get NATO directly into the war on the Kiev side, or to get Russia attacked by NATO.

All tweets supporting her come from fairly affluent journalists, msm people, some lesbians and/or persons of the LBGTQXYZ brigade, fake “doctors” operating psychotherapy scams, retired people living in rural or semi-rural comfort, and/or readers of the Observer and Guardian. Elixir of youth?

Strange. I happened to see the chambers bio of someone who was at the “Bar school” (the Inns of Court School of Law) at the same time as me (1987-88), and in the same little practice group of about half a dozen or so people; all our surnames began with “M”.

I was told at the time (and in confidence) that this particular person was a great deal older than he looked, was (if memory serves) about 45, and had been a commended officer of the Flying Squad, who had arrested a shotgun-carrying robber in a bank branch. He looked to me somewhere between 28 and mid-thirties, no older.

I was told that said person (whose name it is unnecessary to mention) did not want it to be generally known that he had been in the police, because there was at the time rather a prejudice at the Bar against policemen becoming barristers. Perhaps. That is what I was told, anyway.

I noticed that the said student was good at listening rather than talking, for example when in a pub after our “practical exercises” (in those days, Bar students used the courtrooms of the Royal Courts of Justice after hours in order to playact being “Counsel”, supervised by a real barrister acting as “judge”).

The person in question blended in easily. I would never have thought that he had been in the police, had I not been told.

As mentioned, I was told that the said person was about 45 (I think that it was either 45 or 46). Now this was in 1987, maybe 1988. I see now that, after what I understand to have been a pretty successful career at the criminal Bar (though he has not taken silk), he is still practising and, as far as I can judge from his (presumably not too old) photograph, looks no more than 50, if that!

Various idle thoughts intrude: does he have a ghastly portrait of himself hidden away somewhere, as in The Picture of Dorian Gray? Has he found the fountain of youth, or the elixir of youth? If what I was told back in 1987-88 was true, he must be 80-81 years old!

I can only conclude that I may have been told a load of rubbish, yet even if one knocks off a decade from the age as related to me in 1987 or 1988, he must be ~70. Puzzling.

Incidentally, I do not think that I am breaking the confidence entrusted to me about 35 years ago. Apart from the time that has elapsed, I have kept the “secret” since 1988 and even now have not identified the barrister concerned. In any case, whatever the sensibilities of the Bar re. police becoming barristers may have been, 35 years ago, the pre-legal career of that individual must surely be taken to have been creditable, if anything.
