In the trite but true expression, “war is hell”, and civil war (which is, in a sense, what this has been) is worse. Goodwin’s tweet about “1950s” is not quite right though. “1940s” would be better. It is a linguistic point. The 1950s were when Britain began to exit from the terrible privation of the unnecessary war against the German Reich. The poverty of Britain was actually worse in the decade (and especially the 5 years) after the end of the war than it had been during that misconceived war. The decline in living standards during the war itself lurched lower in 1946, 1947 and did not improve, substantially, until about 1954 or 1955. The last remnants of WW2 rationing ended in 1955.
Incidentally, it is interesting to note that many poorer Brits actually had a better diet during WW2 rationing than they had had in the prewar 1930s.

In the present international situation, with huge tension between China and the USA, Chinese assistance to Russia is almost a given. Having said that, Russian leaders may be wondering whether China also wants to spread its influence and, maybe, some of its population, across Siberia, as far west as the Urals.
I rather like some quiz shows, though most have been hugely dumbed down, presumably to fit the current audience profile. My favourites are or were University Challenge (slightly dumbed-down but mostly still OK, and I shall miss Jeremy Paxman when he goes), Mastermind (now very dumbed-down and with a non-white presenter), Eggheads, and The Chase (despite many of the questions being either absurdly easy or on topics of which I admit I know little, notably popular music, football, and sitcoms).
A couple of shows recently astonished me without surprising me, if you understand me. The first was a Celebrity Mastermind.
It goes without saying that “celebrity” shows are usually replete with the incredibly ignorant (one of the few exceptions being any that feature Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, who is is relatively well-educated), and this show was no exception.
Four contestants, only two of whom were white. The winner was a rather odd Irishman, a stand-up comedian (apparently). As with most of such “celebrity” shows, I had never heard of any of the “celebrities”.
The oddest of the four was a TV and radio presenter (apparently) called Jayne Middlemiss [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jayne_Middlemiss]. Entirely innocent of any general knowledge. Her manner was very peculiar, she wore a strange pink sweater with a large “Communist”(style) 5-pointed red star on it, and I have to say that I wondered whether she might be on drugs of some sort. Either that, or she has a mental or personality problem.
Jayne Middlemiss shared the booby-prize honour of total ignorance with two others, especially one Harpreet Kaur, a winner of the show The Apprentice, fronted by the Jewish businessman Alan Sugar.
As to the winner, the Irish comedian, he was better than the others, yes, but almost all the questions were embarrassingly easy. I may cross Mastermind off my list soon.
The other recent show that left me shaking my head was an episode of Eggheads, which saw a team of British Army officers fail to place correctly both Stockholm (the officer on the spot thought that it was in Denmark) and Bimini (between the Bahamas and Florida, in fact technically part of the Bahamas); I cannot recall where that second Army officer thought Bimini was. Somewhere ridiculous, anyway.
I do not expect military officers, most of them, to be great minds, but surely a knowledge of basic geography would be useful, nicht wahr?
I suppose that there are more important things to worry about in the world, just as there are more important issues than whether a self-important TV football pundit, one Lineker, should be allowed both to “blag” £2M a year from the BBC and, at the same time, make (stupid, ignorant) “refugees welcome” pronouncements on Twitter. Oh well, there it is.

As it is, I live only 15-20 miles (nearer 15 as the crow flies) from the port of Southampton, and even nearer to the military port at Hythe, on the Solent in Hampshire; both ports would be major targets.
In other words, even a “limited” NATO-Russia nuclear exchange would probably see the end of me. The only “comfort” (and cold indeed) would be that the “cabal” (((aka “them”))) that would laugh at my demise are mostly (there are a few exceptions) in and around London, so would probably precede or at least accompany me into nuclear annihilation.

There are other factors too, as I know, having lived in both NY/NJ and London (though not in the past 25 years). Watched the last episode of Endeavour, which was pretty good, but again succumbed to the “blacks with everything” nonsense. The road to Hell, as we know, is paved with good intentions. About 24 years ago, I had a girlfriend in Tampa, Florida. Far from a typical American “liberal”, and more likely to vote Republican (or some other) than Democrat (and from a Southern plantation-owning background), but she had resigned from the very nearby Country Club [https://www.pcgc.org/] because, breaking with a tradition going back decades (the club had been founded in 1916), the —normally approved on the nod— courtesy membership for the current commander of the huge MacDill Air Force Base, not too far away, had been blackballed for one reason only, i.e. because the then new base commander was black (for the first time).
Despite my overall world-view, I had considered the lady’s resignation from the Country Club principled, if unnecessary, and the blackballing uncultured, in the circumstances. However, the line does have to be drawn somewhere. Once on a slope, you start to slide.
Courtesy is a good thing, but it cannot be allowed to over-ride higher principle.

This has become pervasive. I seem to recall that, during one of her times in police custody a few years ago, Alison Chabloz, the persecuted satirist and songwriter, was confronted by a young policewoman who told her, inconsequentially, that she, the policewoman herself, did not agree with her, Alison Chabloz’s, views!
Come to that, I recall also picking up, from Hatchards bookshop in Piccadilly, a pre-ordered copy of one of the books by the Soviet defector, Golitsyn. That must have been in the late 1980s, maybe 1988.
The youngish (22 y o, perhaps) blonde girl felt the need to inform me, as she gave it to me, that she disapproved of Golitsyn, and me for buying one of his books; “because I am very left-wing“, as she rather foolishly expressed it (I myself never use the pointless “left/right” terminology). I just nodded affably, while really thinking that she probably deserved a couple of rounds pumped into her.
Imagine that, though: the (entitled, possibly Oxford/Cambridge grad) shop assistant thought to intrude her ridiculous, half-baked —and unwanted, and unsought— personal political views into a mundane book-buying situation which did not call for her judgment, or judgmentalism.
You see that kind of attitude everywhere now. It came out into the open during the “Covid” non-crisis or “panicdemic”, with silly shop-people loving their new roles as herders of shoppers, ordering them to “socially distance”, and making sure that the human “sheep” were wearing their useless facemasks “the right way” etc.
Funny how life moves on though; I was at a Waitrose supermarket earlier, and you could just about see the football-sized circles on the ground, almost worn away, which originally, in 2020, had messages such as “keep your distance” and “NHS priority” etc on them.

The arithmetic seems to suggest that it will not be long before the forces of the Kiev regime run out of ammunition of various kinds. At that point, a gigantic offensive, if the Russian forces can mount —and continue to supply— one, might be able to take the major cities and towns east of the Dnieper, including Kharkov; maybe even the main prize, Kiev (which lies on both sides of the Dnieper).

It has only now come to my attention that the Chairman of the BBC (since February 2021) is one Richard Sharp, a Jew (or possibly half-Jew), who was previously an international banker worth several hundred million pounds, and who has given £400,000 to the Conservative Party.

The idea that the NHS was somehow wonderful before 2010 or 2012 is just silly. I can recall seeing (as an almost daily visitor to a hospital, though not as patient) some appalling service and attitudes (as well as the opposite, and as well as surgical excellence) during the period 2012-2015, from only about 18 months after the 2010 General Election. It takes longer than 18 months for either positive or negative trends to develop in such a huge organization.
It is clear that maladministration is a major problem in the NHS, perhaps the major problem.

What a “mug” tweeter “@SteveChev1” must be. 643 other mugs are each sending “Jack Monroe” between £3.50 and £44 each month via the Patreon website, and not even getting the various bits and pieces promised; they are thus sustaining the not-uncomfortable lifestyle of the “Bootstrap Cook”. Somewhere between £2,500 and £30,000 each month.
Sadly, most people prefer the comforting lies, whether re. race, culture, Ukraine, migration-invasion, the “Covid” “panicdemic”, “Jack Monroe”/”Bootstrap Cook”, the war against the German Reich, or whatever.
And no doctor, whether on television or otherwise, had any reason at all, from day one, to recommend these procedures to anybody.
There is nothing wrong with the principle(s) behind the NHS, but the system is just not working or properly working now, and simply increasing the pay of nurses, doctors and others (not that I oppose that) will not help in the slightest, because the administrative system is broken, from the top down.

“Jack Monroe” was going to sue, said the (((occupied))) Press, not only Lee Anderson but also the political commentator Martin Daubney, at least one of whom (Lee Anderson) had implied (indeed expressed) on TV that “Jack Monroe” is a fraud: he actually said “living off the backs of the poor“. I could not have put it better myself.
Well, here we are, nearly 7 months later, and there has been no action launched; nor even any pre-action correspondence sent.
Lee Anderson has already said that he has heard nothing from the woman or her lawyers (if any), despite the Press claims from May 2022, which seem to have been uncritically supportive of the egregious “Bootstrap Cook”.
While, technically, that leaves “Bootstrap Cook” with another 5 months to bring an action, I think that it is reasonable now to opine that there will be no defamation suit by “Jack Monroe” against Lee Anderson.
However, that is not the whole story: “Jack Monroe” asked people in general and her “supporters” in particular to send money to fund the (so far, non-existent) legal action. She implied also that her solicitor would be fanatical Jew-Zionist solicitor (based in Israel) Mark Lewis, about whom I blogged extensively some years ago: see https://ianrobertmillard.org/2019/01/11/update-re-mark-lewis-lawyer-questions-are-raised/. He himself has not tweeted anything about having been instructed or consulted on the Lee Anderson matter.
Now people are asking about where went the crowdfunded monies raised (assuming that there were some). “Jack Monroe” has not explained. The reasonable assumption, surely, is that she has had at least some monies from that source, but has either retained the monies or simply spent them.
It is a moot point, on those premises, whether “Jack Monroe” has committed a fairly serious criminal offence.
A black woman in Bristol is presently awaiting trial on what seem to be similar facts, involving a crowdfunding appeal for projected lawsuit(s).
The police and/or State regulators should be investigating all of this.
Likewise, as of today, 641 total mugs are sending “Jack Monroe” between £3.50 and £44 a month via the Patreon website, supposedly in return for goods and services never provided.
That’s anything between £2,300 a month and £30,000 a month (gross). “Not a bad little earner“…
“Jack Monroe” has taken money from, inter alia, the “poor” and vulnerable and, when asked to refund monies for non-performance, has refused, or has ignored the requests; on occasion, she has even insulted some of the poor and suffering people concerned.

All the same, look at the facts: several thousand pounds, possibly several tens of thousands, via Patreon each and every month, £24,000 (plus legal costs) from her Katie Hopkins libel action award, somewhere around £100,000 from book royalties in the past decade, other donations, paid Press and TV interviews and appearances, deals with ASDA etc to promote their stuff. Large amounts of money, and it has been claimed that “Jack Monroe” now has as much as £200,000 stashed away, yet she still “cosplays” the poverty thing, as if she is living on a few pounds a day.

I was once, in the early 1980s, somewhat acquainted with a wealthy property-developer who lived in West Sussex. His wife was a novelist of sorts, and had been published (by a real publisher, not via Amazon self-publishing or the like) several times. This in fact was well before Amazon; her first novel had been published around 1980 or slightly earlier.
Apparently, when her first book was accepted, that lady was asked to the publisher’s office. He congratulated her, and then counted out £600 in cash on his desk as an advance; she never earned any more from it. Not a fortune even 40+ years ago. Her later novels earned her even less. Fortunately, with a wealthy husband, that did not matter so much.

If anyone is interested, I myself was a member of a “gun club” in the days before Major and Blair used one of only two “spree shooting” massacres in English history (Dunblane; before that, there had been Hungerford) as an excuse to close down most private ownership of firearms. There has been one other such “spree shooting” since then, in Cumbria in 2010.
I belonged until the mid-1980s to the now more or less defunct Kensington Rifle and Pistol Club in West London , which was off the Cromwell Road, and not too far from the Earl’s Court Underground station. I believe that a rump of it still shoots at Bisley in Surrey, where I have not been since I was at school in the early 1970s.
I have had, also, and in the 1970s and 1980s, some limited experience of various firearms (shotguns, pistols, automatic weapons too) in other parts of the world: Central Southern Africa, Ireland, the USA etc, but have never been fascinated by weapons, and have never made the mistake of imagining that Mao’s dictum that “political power grows out of the barrel of a gun” is 100% right (though it is not 100% wrong either).
Ideology, organization, and discipline must come first in any serious social-national party or movement.
