Largan has obviously realized that, as a “Conservative” MP who won his seat narrowly in 2019, with a majority of only 509 votes, he has little chance of beating the Labour candidate this time in the normal way, so has decided to cheat.
Largan is an election cheat. Those fake “Labour” and “Reform UK” posters he has published are an outright attempt to defraud the High Peak electorate.
Despite having been a barrister (in practice or overseas employed practice 1992-2008, and still nominally a barrister until wrongfully and unlawfully disbarred for political reasons in late 2016), I know little about the law pertaining to elections.
The above, however, does not seem to cover the case of a candidate deceptively using the style and colours of his opponents in order to trick voters directly.
Even if Largan is not actually in breach of electoral law (and I cannot say whether that is so or not), in view of his deliberate and dishonest copying of the colour and style of Labour and Reform UK posters, the voters of High Peak must be made aware of how very dishonest and desperate Largan is (desperate not to have to get a real job again, something he has only had for 5 out of his 38 years).

Well, I agree with Hodges on that, at least in terms of the gap between Con and Lab, but then, after all, I did predict on the blog quite some months ago that, contrary to the usual scenario, there would not be a convergence in the polling prior to Election Day. In the past, there was clear blue water between Con and Lab, at least on some issues, but the Cons cannot now even compete on issues traditionally (if falsely) their own: immigration, defence, law and order, Treasury competence. Etc. They have failed miserably on all of those and more.

I am 72 and from 1970 to 2017 I voted Tory at every GE. I couldn’t vote for the King of Liars in 2019 so voted LD.
This time I will (tactically) vote Labour for the first time in my life and will never vote Tory again.
There were genuine reasons to favour Con over Lab in, say, 1970, 1974, even 1979 and 1983, though I personally have voted only once, aged —just— 18, in October 1974, and it was not for a System party (my chosen candidate came 4th out of 4 with about 600 votes).
Both major System parties have changed out of all recognition since the 1970s, and are really just corporate facades, indeed to a large extent similar corporate facades, hiding the almost identical core ideologies within.

A suspected New Forest murder victim was this week buried in a “once-in-a-lifetime” service, some 500 years after he met his end.
The remains of the unknown man were laid to rest about five centuries after he was initially disposed of in a “clandestine” fashion, as revealed by the A&T.
The 25-minute ceremony took place two years after his medieval-era skeleton was found in mysterious circumstances on a beach near South Baddesley.

As reported in the A&T, after a lengthy investigation, archaeologists have since concluded that “foul play” may explain how he came to be there.
Tuesday’s special funeral took place at St Mary the Virgin, in South Baddesley. Around 50 attendees – comprising nearby residents, those who had been involved in research and local historians – came to pay their respects.
Mourners were greeted and handed a leaflet titled ‘The Funeral and Burial of the 16th Century Man Known only to God’.
The Very Rev Gordon Wynne conducted the service, which included a medieval hymn before the handmade wooden casket was buried in the church graveyard.
The funeral comes after police were alerted in May 2022 by local resident Graham Coulter who helped excavate the human remains after half a skull became exposed in the mud near the mouth of Lymington River.
Speaking after the ceremony, the chartered surveyor, who lives in Lymington, said: “I think it’s a nice reflection on Christianity and mankind.“It’s very moving. It’s nice people turned up to give him a proper send-off.”
The rare remains – of which 80% of the body was still present – were recovered from Sowley Beach. They were given a radiocarbon dating estimating them to have been buried in AD1450-1650.
An osteoarchaeologist who studied the 5ft 4in (1.63m) skeleton concluded it was likely to have been a 20 to 25-year-old adult male.“

The full report is a good read, though it is disappointing to see that the senior archaeologist at the local council thinks that 1450-1650 comes within the “mediaeval” period. Either the Renaissance or, just about, the early Enlightenment.

The fact is that we now have health rationing in the UK. There has always been an element of that but it is now becoming impossible to ignore. It is not OK to simply repeat the old slogans of “our NHS” etc and how the rest of the world supposedly envies it (which is not true in respect of most advanced countries).
I am totally in favour of “free at point of use”, but the existing NHS model is just not working. Resourcing is one factor, but attitude and ethos is another one, and one that must be addressed. Also, pervasive maladministration.

I still cannot understand why Sunak went out in the pouring rain to announce GE 2024. Was he trying to show the population that he is stoic, or a tough guy of some kind? What it said to me is that he is an absolute idiot, for all his paper qualifications; someone who does not know enough to put on a raincoat when it is raining hard, or at least have someone hold an umbrella over him. Actually, what is the point of “National Service” even if the scheme could be enforced? In any serious war with Russia (the scenario constantly being pushed; no other exists), there will probably be a nuclear exchange before very long. Come to think of it, how exactly would UK troops on any large scale be deployed? Both the air force and navy are now very small, and the air lift capacity very limited as well. As for the Royal Navy, its new aircraft carrier could carry a large number of troops, but it is not even defended by many naval fighter aircraft. It would probably be sunk long before it got to the Black Sea or Baltic.

Where Goodwin goes wrong is in failing to see that only some form or forms of social nationalism can save Europe as anything much more than a geographic space inhabited mainly (after about 2100, possibly before then) by non-Europeans.

Ha. The fact is that, for all his brief “celebrity” about 10-12 years ago, Lewis is not much of a lawyer, in my opinion. That is even if we leave aside Lewis’s own admission, before the Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal in 2018, that at times he had no idea what he was saying, writing, or doing (by reason of his intake of prescription drugs).
Solicitors Regulation Authority principle 7 states a solicitor must “act in the best interests of each client”.

3. Mr Cantor now says Mr Lewis said the only way to get a zero money settlement was to ask me for £5k.

This is far from having been the first time that “Mark Lewis Lawyer” (his old Twitter/X name, now supplanted by “@MLewisLawyer”) has acted entirely unprofessionally, but up until now the fanatical and semi-loonie Lewis has managed to wriggle out of professional sanction, except in 2018, when the Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal fined and censured him for having tweeted violently-abusive things on social media.
Even then, supportive Jews stumped up, via a crowdfunder, the £12,500 penalty (being a fine plus costs). Lewis’s fine itself (£2,500) had been reduced by two-thirds because he had effectively no money. His own Counsel said to the Tribunal that Lewis had not only been affected mentally by his (prescription) drug intake, but that “his only assets” consisted of his own clothes, a mobility scooter, and a private pension worth £70 a week.
Lewis’s honesty, as well as his competence, has been in question for many many years.
In the Wilson case, should the recent defendant, Cantor, wish to have reduced his liability for the costs of the successful Claimant (Wilson), he has (it seems) little choice but to go after Lewis. Should Lewis have no or not sufficient means to satisfy the costs, then I suppose that Cantor’s remedy would be, in principle, to go after Lewis’s legal partners in the law firm to which he is now attached, Patron Law.
It will be interesting to see what eventually happens. Unfortunately, the costs will be less than they normally would be (had solicitors and Counsel represented the Claimant); it seems that Wilson represented himself much of the time.
Still, Cantor and maybe Wilson can both complain to the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority. I hope they both will.

At present, about a million migrant-invaders are coming to the UK each year. Most are not “asylum-seekers”, but that is irrelevant; all that matters is the total number.

Anyone’s guess, as far as the 2024 Westminster election is concerned (GE 2024), but my take is that tens of millions of British people are just sick of experiencing how nothing works any more in this country, from local right up to national level. They just want all this utter shite to stop. Labour will probably be unable to do much better, but what people want now, first of all, is to put the Conservative Party on a pyre, and then set light to it.
As to “how low” will the Con vote go at GE 2024, my view, formed over the past year or two, stands at present somewhere below 20%. The latest YouGov poll puts the Cons at about 18%.

Even if those figures are wildly out, it looks as if 2024 may be the swansong for the Con Party as both “the natural party of government” and even as the natural main opposition party.

The situation is exacerbated by the increasing quality and quantity of missiles and drones developed by hostile states such as Russia, China, Iran and North Korea.
The Royal Air Force currently has just nine squadrons of fast jets, down from 30 at the end of the Cold War. The Royal Navy’s six Type 45 destroyers are equipped with the country’s only missile defense systems. But only three of those ships are “available for operations,” including one in the Middle East, according to a Navy spokesman.
On land, the military has about six Sky Saber ground-based air defense systems, each capable of shooting down multiple missiles. But at least two of them – and perhaps more – are deployed overseas, and those in the UK have a very limited range.

As noted on yesterday’s blog, what you get with Matthew Parris is the logical but spiritually-empty argument of the culturally-unattached, atheistic, metro-affluent gay, which Parris is.
If you had to characterize Matthew Parris symbolically, it would be a minimalist painting of an empty room. Something like this:

Having said that, the ageing of the population is a challenge. We see that the birth-rate in Europe and across Eurasia is dropping to, has already dropped to, below replacement level.
The birth-rate is falling in the European-populated countries (my main concern), but also in almost every other part of the world, except Africa and a few parts of the Middle East, Central Asia and South Asia.
The facile, pro-immigration argument is that “Europe is not having enough children to continue its life and economy— bring in immigrants from… [wherever, but Africa and parts of Asia are usually mentioned]”.
That is like saying “the pilot and co-pilot have both had fatal heart attacks— get the cabin crew to fly the plane.” It just does not work, and cannot work.
It may be that via a concatenation of circumstances, the European peoples will quite soon have to start again, to build a new foundation for social and economic life.
It comes to mind that the ultimate reason for the falling birth-rate almost worldwide may be because so many human spirits were, in the past century or more, rushing into incarnation in order to experience the high-water mark of the industrial culture of the 20th/21st centuries. That rush is now at an end. The fact that it is mainly the Africans who are still being born in large numbers may reflect the fact (if it is a fact) that they were last in incarnation very long ago. Speculative, admittedly.

Having lived amongst these people, I can tell you that they are vile, ruthless and dangerous individuals. They are beyond rehabilitation and should be locked up for life. This is not so much about recruiting new recruits, but about retaining soldiers and officers who are already in service, writes Politico. European countries that rely on professional militaries are trying to make their armed forces more attractive. But this is difficult to achieve in times of low unemployment, fierce competition from the private sector and widespread use of remote work, the publication explains.
A recent report presented in the German parliament showed that 1,537 soldiers left the Bundeswehr in 2023. In addition to increasing layoffs, the German army has to deal with dilapidated infrastructure, the repair of which could cost about €50 billion, Politico notes.
French Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu admitted that the difficulty of “retaining” personnel exists in many allied countries. Paris and some other NATO members hope to stimulate the military with higher salaries and social guarantees, the article notes. Money does play a significant role in keeping people in the military. But the problem is that the conditions of service in NATO armies are not that attractive. After all, chronic overtime, the inability to get home for many months and a lack of days off are commonplace there, Politico emphasizes.“
If NATO were to stop interfering in Ukraine, the Middle East, and elsewhere, that shortage of personnel would not even be a problem. Meanwhile, almost all NATO states are suffering from non-European migration-invasion, and no amount of new or old soldiers will stop that, because the NWO-ZOG political leadership is encouraging mass immigration into the European space.

Having said that, when I had (historical) tax problems and had to engage with the Revenue, well over a decade ago, especially in 2010-2011, I was quite frankly amazed to see how utterly shambolic the HMRC “service” actually was. It’s an overused term, but it was “Kafka-esque” to a degree I would not have believed had I not experienced it myself.
So now it is actually worse? Hard to believe. The one comfort I have from that very stressful period many years ago is that, soon after I got off the hook, and during the Cameron-Levita/Osborne “austerity” programme, most if not all of the HMRC staff that had harassed and annoyed me, and created problems for me, lost their jobs. Suck on that…
Still, all’s well that ends well…my income is now so low that the shambles of administration in that “service” need not concern me. My problems with “the taxman” were settled to my satisfaction in 2012.
