Saturday quiz

Only just beat political journalist John Rentoul this week. He scored “5 and a half“, he says, while I managed 6/10. I did not know the answers to questions 3, 4, 7, and 10. In fact, I had read about no.7 a while ago but forgot about it, and also should really have guessed no.10.

The destruction of beauty, and the creeping growth of housing

Earlier this week, I blogged about the horrible destruction of trees in Armada Way, Plymouth by a corrupt local council. Now, while reading a report about the recent suicide of a headmistress of a school attended by me 60 years ago, I saw something equally unpleasant about Emmer Green, just north of Reading.

Northwest and north of Reading, across the Thames, there are two basically suburban areas abutting the open woods and fields of Oxfordshire: Caversham Heights (where I lived at times as a child) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caversham_Heights], and Emmer Green [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmer_Green]. About two or three miles of more or less open country separates the two. Within that couple of miles there was, inter alia, a golf course, Reading Golf Club, which in the 1960s and 1970s was the only golf course on that side of the Thames and that close to Reading.

I myself was a junior member of Reading Golf Club for a year or so around 1972, when I was 15-16. My golfing equipment was old and rudimentary, given to me by family friends, I think: one or two woods (drivers), an oddly-short no.3 iron, an ancient and wood-shafted mashie niblick (no.7 iron)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsolete_golf_clubs#20th_century_wood-shafted_irons], and a putter (also wood-shafted). Out of date even then.

That golf course was rather beautiful, I thought, with plenty of majestic trees framing the fairways of the 18 holes, and even a very small valley, from which one drove from the tee on one side to the hole on the other. A very unusual par as well— 2 par, if I recall aright.

That hole must have been some kind of anomaly, because 3-par is the lowest par usually designated: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Par_(score). Maybe I just remembered wrongly, and it was 3-par; no matter.

I managed (by luck, really) to get a hole-in-one on that, though it hardly counts, arguably, not being a more typical sort of hole.

Be that as it may, I was discomfited to read yesterday that not only has that golf course now closed (and been subsumed, as a club, into a new golf club with a course a few miles away) but the area of the old course has been designated for housing— 223 new houses. There is strong local opposition from nearby residents calling their protest group Keep Emmer Green: https://www.keepemmergreen.org/.

We see this all the time now, especially in southern England: “infilling” of green areas around or in towns and cities, usually so that housing can be built for profit. Mass immigration, births to existing UK residents, the collapse of the traditional family. Overall result— pressure to build more housing.

In the end, will there actually be an England worth saving or defending? A question members of the armed forces, and the intelligence and security services, might pose to themselves in a lucid moment.

Incidentally, since the early 1970s, I have rarely played golf, and own no golf clubs (both my younger brothers are keen players, though).

Whatever the logical reasons behind the policy, Jeremy Hunt must have a political cloth ear to introduce such a measure at such a time.

“Covid” “panicdemic” nonsense, migration-invasion nonsense (fake “refugees” put up in hotels etc), general “Ukraine” nonsense (arms, ammunition, medical supplies, and hard cash, all being funnelled to the corrupt and dictatorial regime of the Jew Zelensky). Etc.

Prediction of the result of a general election not due to be held for possibly 20 months is a fool’s game, of course, but at present it certainly looks like a shoo-in for Labour, and most policy announced by the “Conservatives” seems to play into Labour’s hands despite Labour itself being so lacklustre.

Seems to be useful public health advice. I myself have no liver problem, but am posting those tweets as a general warning to anyone who, or who knows someone who, is in that situation.

Better pay than being “His Excellency” the Ambassador to [somewhere]. While a few British ambassadors get nearly £150,000, most are below £100,000, and some receive as little as £60,000, though they do get reasonably-nice, sometimes very nice, ambassadorial residences, and there are a number of perks. Also, diplomatic immunity. I should have appreciated that a few times myself, when working overseas. Very convenient.

I believe that Murray was appointed to Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in 2002.

Murray seems to be someone highly principled (according to his own lights), and a bit awkward, like one or two Quakers I encountered several decades ago. The Diplomatic Service was almost certainly the wrong career for him.

God… and most of those people have so little anyway, and amid such wealth. The USA in some ways is “the Great Satan“, as the Islamic crazies sometimes claim. Not in every way, but in some. I myself have experienced a little of both the more comfortable and less comfortable sides of American life. The USA needs radical reform.

So much for “Biden the great humanitarian”. Not that he has invented such hypocrisy— Clinton was there first.

Ukraine situation

True. Brutal. However, it seems that some fighters on both sides might be termed “cannon-fodder“. In fact, we in the West, subjected to the usual msm lies and spin, are not getting the true measure of the Ukrainian/Kiev-regime losses. Massive.

A maverick officer, too honest for his notional superiors. Every army has a few. General Lebed, a Soviet and, later, Russian Army commander, was like that. He would have made a good President of the Russian Federation but, like others before him and since, he died in an apparent “accident” (in his case, a helicopter crash). Maybe it was an accident. Of course, over the years quite a few Jews have actually been exposed and/or arrested for attacking Jewish graveyards, with the aim of inciting other Jews (via newspaper reports) to get excited about “antisemitism”, as well as the aim of goading the authorities to crack down on so-called “far right” (social-national) people or parties and groups, as well as repressing freedom of expression.

I have never understood why any social-national people would attack Jewish or any other graveyards. What is the aim? To kill dead Jews? Very strange.

The very fact that a dim and corrupt woman such as Jacqui Smith became an MP says much about the decadence of the political system in the UK. That she became Home Secretary beggars belief. Corrupt, an expenses cheat, a freeloader and a fraudster, as well as an influence-peddler.

A political self-server and chancer, who (like not a few of the self-describing “Left” and “antifascists”) loudly opposes Israel while at the same time giving lip-service to the “holocaust” fable (even the absurd fiction of “gas chambers”) which fable is Israel’s main weapon; he pretends (?) to be not “antisemitic” (as if being “antisemitic” were a bad thing).

Emma Barnett describes herself as “a camouflaged Jew“. Not much! “They” always imagine that they are not immediately obvious but, in 99% of cases, are (if one is not asleep).

When I myself was about 7, 8, 9, in the early-mid 1960s, I would often cycle from my home (almost at the very point at which Reading, Berkshire, becomes South Oxfordshire and open fields). I would sometimes venture several miles further, often to Mapledurham (the Thames-side village used, a few years later, in The Eagle Has Landed, though in that film the location was transposed to coastal Norfolk).

Hitchens is right. Almost everyone now is afraid of others, of a virus most will either not get or, if they get it, will not be aware of it, and of their own shadows.

Hitler etc

The huge “Hitler industry” rolls on, making profits for (often) Jews and others. Much of it is nonsensical. The typical TV “documentary” on Hitler has a number of “experts” (not infrequently Jewish), and often not very expert.

I was just watching a film about Hitler’s own art collection, and his own private funds. There were a number of schoolboy-level errors, as when one American “expert” mentioned the concentration camp “near the little town of Dachau, just south of Munich.” Dachau is north-west of Munich. A small point, admittedly, but typical of the careless scholarship on anything to do with the NSDAP, Hitler, or the Reich generally.

The film about Hitler’s private funds did contain some points of interest, as when one researcher said that, when he started to research the subject, he was expecting to find that Hitler had looted his art collection (“expecting“…!), but was “surprised” (!) to find that every last item had actually been paid for in the usual way.

Looks like that researcher had had his mind warped by anti-Hitler propaganda…at least he was honest to admit what he had found out.

I myself am not on Facebook, but that reminds me of the attitude of the Bar Standards Board [BSB] when a pack of Jews called “UK Lawyers for Israel” complained about me to the BSB in 2014, a malicious complaint that led to my disbarment nearly two years later, in 2016: https://ianrobertmillard.org/2017/07/09/the-slide-of-the-english-bar-and-uk-society-continues-and-accelerates/

Out of 150,000+ tweets and retweets posted over a number of years, and about 100 complained of by those Jews, a mere 7 (SEVEN!) were thought to be “grossly offensive” by the BSB and so formed the basis for the quasi-trial (Bar Disciplinary Tribunal hearing) in October 2016.

In fact, the allegedly offensive tweets were reduced in number at hearing to only 5 (FIVE). Out of 150,000+…Over 6 years of Twitter membership.

My point here is other, to wit that my tweets, all general comments about society and politics, were true in all particulars. One, at which the Tribunal took particular offence, was that Michael Gove [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Gove] was “a pro-Israel, pro-Jew expenses cheat“. That was deemed “grossly offensive” despite the fact that the facts alleged by me were, in fact, facts.

In other words, I was condemned for having tweeted the truth. Where is the greater offence, the crimes or defaults of a politician, or the tweets posted and which commented on those defaults?

I might add that, in 2016, the general public was not aware (neither was I) that snivelling Jewish-lobby puppet Gove was (is?) also a regular cocaine abuser.

The other four tweets which sank me at Tribunal were also all true…

Truth is often no defence in the public-private politically correct and Zionist-dominated police state of 2020 Britain.

What should be done with Professor Ferguson and others?

Bicycle riders are a nuisance, especially in the semi-rural English coastal area where I live; dark clothing, often no lights, usually no street lighting. Having said that, car drivers are often very negligent too.

My own niece, an Australian citizen working temporarily in West London, was knocked off her pushbike early in the year, and was lucky not to have been badly injured. The “accident” happened at an intersection where she had the right of way. The driver briefly stopped , then sped off. The police (who could have seized cctv evidence from nearby businesses, but did not), were useless. The hit-and-run driver, probably a non-European, has never been traced, identified, or punished.

I agree with Hitchens on the liberty point (not to have to wear helmets) but it is true that many have lost their lives by reason of not having been wearing helmets.

Around 1988 or 1989, I was asked by a friend and former Russian-language teacher of mine, the now-deceased Dostoyevsky translator, Ig Avsey, a good-hearted if eccentric fellow [https://www.theguardian.com/education/2013/dec/09/ignat-avsey-obituary], to investigate the death of his 30-something nephew, an employee at the BBC radio monitoring facility (now closed) at Caversham Park, close to Reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caversham_Park

Ig told me that his nephew had suddenly fallen down at home (in the Caversham Park suburb close to the monitoring station; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caversham_Park_Village); he later died. Ig was (unwarrantedly) suspicious of the nephew’s girlfriend, with whom the deceased had recently had a child; mother and baby also lived in the house.

Ig seemed to think that the young woman, a Ukrainian in her twenties, might have had a drunken argument with the nephew, and hit him with something. There had been a head injury, but the police were not treating it as suspicious.

Having heard of the deceased nephew (and having once briefly met him in London, several years before these events), I was aware that he was a fairly heavy drinker. On the night of the death he had apparently taken a fairly considerable amount of drink at the bar within the monitoring centre.

Anyway, I attended the inquest held in Reading, though only as observer (I was at the time not yet Called to the Bar). Ig had instructed Counsel, a fairly confident young woman whose name escapes me but who made a career at the Bar (I used to see her around the Inns in later years).

The inquest was a rather sad waste of time, as many are. The trail seemed to have gone cold.

However, some weeks after that, the report of the inquest, printed in the local newspaper, brought forth a bus driver who declared that he had been driving his bus one evening when a cyclist, not stopping where a cycle path met the road, and the man not wearing a helmet, had shot across in front of the bus, which had stopped short; the cyclist had, despite not having been struck, fallen off onto the road. He had been helped up, and had continued on his way, obviously somewhat the worse for drink.

So there it was. No espionage connection, no drunken domestic argument and assault, just a somewhat intoxicated man who fell off a pushbike and was not wearing a safety helmet. His choice, his accident, his death.

Rare pleasures

Had two relatively rare pleasures, one being traditional fish and chips, the other being a glass or so of Royal Tokay. The fish and chips was the first I had had for months, the Tokay (5 putts.) the first for at least 10 years. Both very pleasant.

At the same time, I saw University Challenge, another alumni match (Durham and Downing College, Cambridge). As on previous occasions, I did better than both teams. In a sense, that pleases me, but in another sense it displeases me (that highly-paid and respected broadcasters, scribblers and others are so damned ignorant in this country!).

BBC World Service

Woke up to some interminable BBC World Service Outlook programme, based around a black girl with sickle cell anaemia. Next up was something called Witness History, which might have been better entitled Witless History. Basically, more anti-white, anti-European propaganda, this time based around the history of UNESCO, and featuring an angry, shouting UN career “diplomat” from Senegal.

The World Service continues to be very poor.

Ukraine

As Peter Hitchens has written, Ukraine has been at the centre of many of the conflicts of the past century. Bolshevism, the White Guard, the Russian Civil War, Collectivization, Lebensraum, the war of 1941-45 etc.

During the Second World War, many Ukrainians supported the German invasion, as they had the German anti-Bolshevik occupation after the First World War.

Now we have a situation which has developed from that where the old Soviet Union collapsed and, understandably, after 70 years of Sovietism and/or war, many Ukrainians felt that they would be better off independent of Russia, an aim of many since the 19th Century.

Ukrainian-Americans were an important factor in the Ukranian nationalist revival, which however was before long taken over by Jewish-Zionist elements. Sadly, many of the hopes of the Ukrainians were dashed in the 1990s and thereafter. Corruption, poverty, gangsterism, and a wave of Jewish carpetbaggers arriving from the USA and elsewhere. I even saw that some Jewess from Maida Vale (the area of London where I spent most time over the years) had bought a confectionary factory there!

The “Orange Revolution” of 2004-2005 was basically a Jewish-funded NWO/ZOG plot, though you will look in vain for any hint on Wikipedia…https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_Revolution.

Now, Ukraine’s President, Prime Minister, and other top figures are Jews! One is even a Israeli citizen!

Ukraine and Russia have always developed together. Not always in great harmony, but always together. That partnership is now fragile and under attack.

The Crimea was placed administratively under the control of the Soviet republic of Ukraine in 1954: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimea. The population, though, is mainly Russian (65%; Ukrainians 15%; Crimean Tartars 10%; others 10%).

The Russian reassertion of sovereignty in 2014 was opposed by “the West” (NWO), which since then has completely taken over “independent” Ukraine and is building a great naval base on territory controlled by the Kiev government.

As Peter Hitchens says, these “NATO” (NWO) incursions are a direct threat to Russia, to its integrity and future. As Hitchens notes, imagine what would happen if the Russians did something similar in the Gulf of Mexico…

We may be looking here at the genesis of World War Three. At the same time, “NATO” forces are engaged in military exercises both in Ukraine and in the Baltic states.

Without Ukraine at least as neutral, Russia, as a near-superpower, is no longer in existence. Indeed, it would be not very viable, long-term, as a state at all, especially looking at the slow infiltration of Chinese influence in the Eastern part of Siberia (the former Soviet Far East).

Russia may be relatively poor compared to the USA and the EU, but it has both nuclear and non-nuclear forces which can match the “West”. Yes, the USA can destroy Russian cities and bases ten times over, and it is not known for sure whether the Russians can destroy the similar America targets ten times over, five times, or only once! Is there any difference?

In fact, were, say, New York, Washington DC, Seattle, LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Boston to be destroyed, would the USA even be able to function? Would it take 10 years to recover? 50? 100?

This is a road better not travelled down.

Quite. I thought, earlier in 2020, that to create new hospitals was a great achievement even bearing in mind their limited aims and equipment etc, but now I wonder whether those “Nightingale Hospitals” were just part of a propaganda “big lie”…

Just as the most enthusiastic supporters of mass media and social media censorship now are those who, in the past, would have fought for liberty: journalists, MPs, published authors etc.

The Jewish influence in society (and especially in the mass media and the legal profession) is a large part of all this.

Forbury Gardens attack

I blogged in some detail yesterday about this. It now turns out that the “suspect” is a Libyan and (as I guessed) an “asylum-seeker” (migrant invader), who not only has lived in the UK for some time, but was even imprisoned until recently for what the mass media are pleased to call “a minor offence”.

Listen, you treacherous msm bastards…I was once a practising barrister, and I know that it is —at least usually— not so easy to be imprisoned in the UK for what most people at least would regard as “minor” offences, especially for “first-time offenders” (i.e. those never prosecuted before) .

Obviously, the blame for a terrible incident such as that which played out in Reading on the weekend lies primarily with the culprit, but if such offences are committed by migrant invaders posing as “asylum-seekers”, then I believe that a great part of the blame also lies with those who encourage, assist and promote migration-invasion into this country, by which I mean those such as Yvette Cooper, “lord” Dubs (the Jew fraud/embezzler who cheated on his quite generous House of Lords expenses), paid pro-immigration campaigner Zoe Gardner (“@ZoeJardiniere” on Twitter) etc. The whole “refugees welcome” crowd, in fact.

Yvette Cooper prefers to turn a blind eye to her own culpability in supporting the importation of those who, many of them, hate us because we are white Europeans and they are not:

How many more “events” is she willing to accept (from her cocooned, privileged and protected affluence) before she shuts up?

Here (below) is an actress (but of course, being “woke”, she prefers to call herself an “actor”, surely even more absurd than priestesses calling themselves “priests”). She refuses to see that there is a “racist” connection to the Forbury Gardens attack. The suspect is non-white, his alleged victims all (as far as I know) white English (and one American).

The attack was not directly connected to the pathetic “Black Lives Matter” demonstration that apparently took place an hour or two earlier (I saw a video: most of the demonstrators seemed to be white, and there were only about 50 of them, if that). Probably students from Reading University. However, there may be an indirect connection between the “BLM” demonstration and the knife attack.

Not all blacks, or all West Indians, are “bad people”. I have never said so. However, they are, as a group, backward compared to us (“us” as a nation or group; sadly, many white people in the UK let themselves and the country down, and that includes not a few in the broadly “nationalist” camp).

Does the old fraud already have an Israeli one?

It is quite funny, though, to see quite a few Remain supporters on Twitter attacking Stanley Johnson, and claiming that their own children have somehow been deprived of the right to “live, work and study” in the EU states.

First of all, British people did “live, work, and study” in other EU and non-EU European states before the UK joined the then EEC in 1973. You could only do so by permission, true, but many did apply and almost all were able to do what they wanted despite the UK not being a member.

Secondly, this really is a “middle class problem”, if you like. How many British young people really study (I mean for 3-4 years, not the 6-12 months of a language placement, or a few months on exchange) at the Sorbonne, the Humboldt University of Berlin, Heidelberg, Delft, Utrecht or Louvain? Precious few.

As for working in the EU in serious jobs (not bartending in Marbella or doing self-employed plumbing in Fuengirola), how many do work in Paris, Berlin, Brussels? Thousands? Yes. Tens of thousands? Maybe yes, Hundreds of thousands? No.

31 million people have jobs in the UK (or did, until this futile excuse for a government introduced the “lockdown” nonsense). A few thousand or tens of thousands make little diference.

Most British people cannot (in the real world) live, work, or even study in other EU states anyway (though I myself did live in France for a few years). It is something 99% for the affluent or wealthy. These people tweeting (bleating) about how Sebastian and Camilla cannot take up that EU Commission job, or Milan fashion house internship, make me terribly sad of course, but I hope to get over it…

In keeping with the weasel times in which we live, the local news report above simply says that the 25 y o suspect is “from Reading“, though the BBC report is, unexpectedly, more honest, stating that the suspect “is Libyan“. All reports seen are at pains to say that the incident is “not connected with the “Black Lives Matter” “protests“” (vandalism) and not “terror-related”. Oh, that’s all right then…

So, it seems that a Libyan (“asylum-seeker”?) may have walked around stabbing (British?) people in a park with considerable historical connections, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbury_Gardens#History including British Empire connections (as well as connections with mediaeval, Renaissance and English Civil War events), and near a British Empire military memorial, simply at random? Sorry, me no believe that…

I know the Forbury Gardens, though I have not been there for at least 45 years. I was born in Reading, and when I was very small, my grandmother would take me to the Forbury Gardens occasionally. That would have been around 1957.

The lion on the memorial was painted white or light grey back then or in the 1960s (though the Wikipedia piece about it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maiwand_Lion makes no mention of that). It looks much better now, or whenever the photo above was taken (obviously in a recent year, looking at the buildings nearby).

The memorial was created “to commemorate the deaths of 329 men from the 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot during the campaign in the Second Anglo-Afghan War in Afghanistan between 1878 and 1880. It is sometimes known locally as the Forbury Lion.” [Wikipedia]. So to memorialize soldiers who died fighting Muslims. Can this be simply co-incidental?

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, when I was a small child, those gardens were peaceful, pleasant and safe, despite being in the centre of a large town.

The anti-British Twitter mob are still howling with delight about the expulsion of Katie Hopkins from Twitter. For example, here is a gross (and seemingly semi-literate, judging from other tweets seen) scribbler called Mollie Goodfellow:

That reaction to the Hopkins expulsion seems to be the norm for many actual or wannabee scribblers, “celebrities”, TV talking heads, System politicos.

I have little time for the “libertarian” (when it suits), pro-Israel, pro-Jew, Faragist “conservative” populist politics of Katie Hopkins. She is not really social-national, and is saying what she says at least partly because she makes a living out of it, never having had a job or profession (except —she says—a few years in New York, in some office bod “consultant” role, and a year in a similar job at the Met Office in Exeter).

All the same, it should not be for some factotum at Twitter to decide who is and is not allowed to tweet. Especially when the process is so biased. Most of the Jew trolls are allowed to stay (the Stephen Silvermans, the Stephen Applebaums, “Mark Lewis Lawyer”, and the mentally-disordered Jewesses of North London and the neighbouring Borshch Belt), as are “antifa” idiots.

This is not a matter of a simple commercial setup which has the right to bar people; this is a quasi-monopoly (notwithstanding that small “baby-Twitters” exist), and there should be some kind of citizen’s right to publish on it.

I do agree with about half of the views expressed by Katie Hopkins, especially re. migration-invasion, multiculturalism, gypsies (whether “Roma” or Irish tinker) and a few other topics. I strongly disagree with some of her other views (not only her professed love for the Jews).

Funny to think that Katie Hopkins was working at the Met Office in Exeter when I was a barrister practising (2002-2008) from chambers in the same city. In fact, Katie Hopkins’ house (which had to be sold a few years ago, after her misadvised defence to a libel action by the so-called “Bootstrap Cook” failed, with large costs consequences) was in St. Leonard’s, a district of Exeter adjoining the area of the bluff over the Exe River, which is where my chambers were.

I never saw Katie Hopkins when I worked out of Exeter (I lived about 50 miles to the west, on the Cornwall-Devon border), though I did notice a few other “celebrities”, mostly at the Exeter County Court: Noel Edmonds the TV presenter, and John Burton-Race, the TV chef and restaurateur, among others.

As I say, it is not about being pro-Katie Hopkins, which I am not, but about the continuing attempt by a mob of Jews and “me too” groupthink idiots to shut down freedom of expression, either for socio-political reasons, or for their own advantage.

Scottish independence (from UK, though not from NATO, presumably, nor from the EU, nor from international finance…) would mean a Westminster Parliament in which (on 2019 figures) the Conservative Party would have a majority of about 127 (because no Scottish MPs, of which 48 are SNP, 6 Conservative, 4 LibDem and 1 Labour).

I have a couple of issues with Nick Griffin’s tweet, above. First, he uses the old and now all but meaningless “right/left” binary; also, he posts a picture of the now completely sidelined Jeremy Corbyn. Not very skilled, politically.

Hard to believe that the “British” police can be “dumbed-down” even more! Anyone who has had more than passing contact with them in the past, say, decade or so will know that the Plimsoll Line on their ship is painted very low down already.
