I was just thinking about the “level”, culturally, of Russia and Ukraine.
When you think of Russia in terms of historical culture, a host of names come to mind at once. In the world of literature, you could cite —to name but a few of the most famous— Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Chekhov, Pushkin, Gogol, Turgenev, Bulgakov, Lermontov, Sholokhov, Leskov, Yevtushenko, Solzhenitsyn etc.
Some of those writers, eg Gogol and Bulgakov, were in fact born in Ukraine; Gogol was ethnically and culturally Russian as well as Ukrainian. After all, Ukraine and Russia were together for a thousand years.
In music, one thinks of, inter alia, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Glazunov, Glinka, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Borodin, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Balakirev, Mussorgsky, Shostakovitch, Myaskovsky, Khrennikov, Popov, Shchedrin, Sviridov and many others.
The same can be said of painters.
As to Ukrainian writers, composers etc, there are quite a number (e.g. Lyatoshinsky), but few who would be known to people in the UK, USA etc.
It is true that, until about 30 years ago, there was a broadly Russifying policy in the Ukraine and, in both the 19thC and under Stalin, a general repression of Ukrainian language, but that is not the whole picture.
Ukraine is a country the same size as France, and which has today a population of over 40 million (minus 5-10 million now living beyond its borders).
There can surely be no doubt that, historically, Russia has produced a great deal more, culturally, than Ukraine, whatever reasons can be adduced, yet when we look at Western propaganda, whether in the msm or on Twitter etc, all we see is that Russians are “savages“, or “orcs” (a reference to the brutal and stupid evil soldier-creatures of The Lord of the Rings) and so on.
By contrast, the Ukrainian (Kiev regime) people and soldiers are represented as being far far better than Russians.
Well, of course, “in war, truth is the first casualty” but, even so, it is “disappointing” to see how easily bamboozled many people are in, say, the UK, and how enthusiastically the basically Jewish-pervaded msm has embraced its faux-war propaganda role.

Not that I disagree with him about Sunak’s “study maths until age 18” nonsense. I posed the question weeks, and I think even months, ago as to whether “Jack Monroe” sometimes makes up things and rolls out a pack of lies almost daring people to accuse her of lying, as in (to take a few examples only) that she was “on the game” (prostitution) in Essex (by reason of impecuniosity), that she attended the Grenfell Tower fire (60+ miles from where she lives), was “waved through the police cordon” (oh yes, the police would really allow a stray interfering rubbernecker to go through…) and even had plans of the building (why would she? How could she?).
The “Bootstrap Cook” said that she was so poor that she had to sell her small son’s toy dinosaur, that she had to take out lightbulbs in order not to waste electricity, and that she had to boil soap to make shower gel (which does not even stack up logically, when 90p shower gel lasts for 1-3 weeks with daily use, and when boiling soap costs money in itself; and why not just use the soap instead of trying to make gel out of it?). Ludicrous.
On several occasions, I have been certain in my own mind that her lies must amount to her thinking “surely the sad bastards won’t buy this one?!“, and then they (those who defend her to the marrow) do buy whatever absolute crap she comes out with at any given moment; while also (631 utter mugs as of today) each sending her between £3.50 and £44 a month!
In other words, at times she is certainly, in the well-known phrase, “having a laugh”, a laugh at the expense of the mugs subsidizing her and the others promoting her, the latter including Nigella Lawson, at least a couple of Labour MPs, and of course the media rats from the Guardian, Observer, BBC and Channel 4.

I have no idea who that particular mug is, nor whether his/her problem is a mental illness or just plain everyday stupidity, but imagine taking money off someone like that on the false promise/threat that Con Party MP, Lee Anderson, was going to be sued for stating, entirely truthfully, something along the lines of the assertion that “Jack Monroe” is basically a fraud (at very least, a “grifter”) “living off the backs of the poor“, which is exactly what she is and does.

Strange to see: I was just reading about Ava Gardner [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ava_Gardner] and saw that she died in 1990, aged 67, at at her home in Ennismore Gardens, Kensington (London), near Kensington Gardens, where she had lived since 1968. I never knew. Had I thought of it at all, I probably would have assumed that she lived in either California or New York City.
I have only been to that exact place once, I think; in the very early 1980s, with someone escorting the then Metropolitan of Kiev (a kind of Russian Orthodox archbishop, the second-highest prelate of that church) who was then visiting London. The Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition is at the end of a kind of hidden-away cul de sac there. We dropped him there, and were invited in (no-one else was around, as far as I can recall). Christmas University Challenge
This evening, Hull University v. West of England University (“UWE”— at one time, Bristol Poly).
The two teams of alumni were not much good, though I thought that Hull (whose team won easily) was a slight cut above the other teams seen in recent days. Though I still think that I did at least as well as the winning team, I was lost on some of the mathematical and scientific questions (and, of course, popular music). On the other hand, so were most of the contestants.
I have to say that I was shocked at the ignorance of the UWE team, who could not even get the name of the US President in office in 1957 (Eisenhower), despite two of the team having reported for the BBC and (I think) Channel 4 for years. Unbelievable.

It is hard enough to beat a human grandmaster. In 1971 (I think), I took part in the Marlow International Chess Tournament, held in a school at Marlow, Buckinghamshire on a weekend in July. I camped in the grounds.
I took part in a “simultaneous exhibition”, in which a famous and very strong player takes on a number of others; in this case me and 19 others against Jana Hartston, a women’s grandmaster, former Czech women’s champion, and also (being then married to William Hartston, himself a grandmaster) British Women’s Champion.
I decided that I had no chance against her, so rather than trying to play seriously, started with a few conventional moves followed by an outrageously oblique one (not thought through at all). The result was mildly comical: the serious and youngish woman (she was herself only ~24 at the time; I was, I think, still 14) came swiftly around the rectangle of desks, each housing a chessboard. When she came for the third or fourth time to me, I made my move.
Madame Hartston paused, evidently puzzled for a moment, then made a swift move before moving on. I tried the same tactic again the next time round, but she barely paused.
I was checkmated after about 20 moves, if that, and was the second player to be beaten by her.
In the main tournament, I also fared badly, not lasting very long before being knocked out.

I favour a free-at-point-of-use NHS service, but only for British people, not for “health tourists” and all manner of riff-raff. How such a service can be funded is an open question. How such a service can be staffed is another question. The aim should be for the UK to train its own doctors and nurses, for one thing, and they should be forced to work in the NHS, and not allowed to emigrate to the white Commonwealth or elsewhere, for several years (in the case of doctors, perhaps 10 years).
Back in the 1970s, even 1980s, despite many Press stories about deficiencies, the NHS did work, most of the time. Now, mass immigration and NHS maladministration has ruined it.
Management, or rather mismanagement, is one of the really major problems with the NHS.
I see that the propaganda campaign is being readied to pretend to the public that they, the public, are to blame for the NHS not working properly, because they, the public, are actually requesting the services that the NHS is supposed to provide.
This winter, the NHS will not easily be able to blame the 2020-2022 “Covid” “panicdemic” for its inability to run itself properly, and it has been 3 or 4 years since other illnesses or conditions (eg “flu”) were blamed (almost every winter for many years).
If and when the UK has a real government, it must tackle the healthcare mess and the associated adult social care mess as a priority.
One idea might be to use a “dedicated” or “ring-fenced” tax only for the NHS. “National Insurance”, which is merely another tax on top of income tax, is paid into general government funds. If it, or a large part of it, were only usable for health services, the taxpayers would accept it far more readily, especially under a suitable name such as the unoriginal but easily-understood “Health Services Tax”. It is claimed that that would be less efficient; I think not.
Another point: blaming the consumer, or worker, or citizen, now seems to be “a thing” in the UK.
NHS not working right? It’s because Joe Public actually has a medical problem and wants it dealt with. Water shortage? It’s the fault of the public, because they actually want to have a bath or shower, and to water their plants. People cannot live on peanuts? It’s their fault, for being unable to “budget”, or cook, or enjoy “fasting” (going without food— yes, the Daily Telegraph suggested even that recently).

A few thoughts about the hot weather
I have lived and worked in, as well as merely visited, various countries, both those which are usually hot and those which are hot only in summer: USA, Australia (where I was at school for three years), a few parts of Africa and North Africa, Turkey, the Caribbean, Kazakhstan, Russia, and of course European countries.
It is hard to come to a firm conclusion about climate from personal experience alone. That is especially true when other factors than temperature come into play: humidity, air flow, the difference (if any) between temperature in the day and after dark.
Age is certainly a factor. Children are often more accepting of hot weather, though many old people enjoy at least sunshine, if not fierce blazing heat.
For myself, I find that age makes hot weather less tolerable, especially when combined with high humidity.
Is the British weather less tolerable now, as compared to, say 1976 or other noted years? As a matter of fact, I would say that it is, possibly because the very hot weather at least seems to continue longer, indeed almost endlessly. In 1976, I was 19, so more resilient to heat than I now am, but I lived in London throughout that famous summer, and did not find it too difficult, despite its duration (longer than the present heatwaves).
I have not examined in detail the statistics of temperature etc, but we do seem to be having more hot and very hot days, days when the temperature is above not even 20C, but 25C and even 30C.
As to “climate change”, my own view is that there has been a change: Australia today, meaning Sydney and other Eastern seaboard regions with which I and my wider family are familiar, is far hotter more often than was the case in the late 1960s when I was a child there. What is driving the change is (in my view) uncertain. If it is said that CO2 emissions are the cause, then the UK or even all Europe making changes will be of only limited effect anyway. China and India are the big emitters as well as the big polluters, and they are not going to change what they do any time soon.
For me personally, I just look forward to next week, when the forecasters predict cooler weather, with rain, in southern England.

I have never met either of the above individuals. Moreover, I do not “support” either, as such, and I do not oppose either, as such. Nick Griffin did well to turn the BNP into a machine capable of at least winning a few EU and local election seats prior to 2010. As for Mark Collett, I like what little I see online about Patriotic Alternative, inasmuch as they are at least doing things on the ground, even if those activities are only going on hikes and putting up banners at various places.
It is hard for an outsider like me to come to any firm view as to whether one or the other is more or less worthy or meritorious. I cannot think that either of those sides or groups is “what Britain needs”, as such, but “all roads lead to Rome” is, I suppose, my basic attitude.
It will take more than opposition to the “panicdemic” to make me like Alex Jones, but his main point is worthwhile.
Interesting to note that Jones’s type of free speech would not be permitted in the UK: OFCOM would “unperson” him at once. In fact, Jones would probably end up getting prosecuted on some bs Mickey Mouse charge or other.
People generally tend to think of Sovietism as having come into being purely under conditions of political violence. Much of its consolidation in the early years, however, took place under what were basically conditions of near-chaos. Rudolf Steiner referred, in 1918 or 1919, to the “impossible social conditions” in Russia (it did not become the Soviet Union until 1923 —officially, 22 December 1922—; the 33-year cycle of world politics and society, again).
What conditions were “impossible?” Shortages caused by official policy, weird laws, “rules”, “advice” etc. People getting sacked, quarantined, arrested for crazy small things, or because their faces did not fit in the New Order, or because they were “former people” who remembered that things had once been mainly better. Also, gradually more severe restrictions on movement, particularly travel outside the country.
Does any of this seem familiar? Yes, the old “socialism”, Marxism-Leninism, even social democracy, started to disappear rather fast after 1989 (again, that 33-year cycle), but the essentials are there, meaning especially the lunacy that becomes dogma, with harsh enforcement of crazy “rules”, supposed “laws” etc. Look at what has happened in the UK and in many other countries in 2020-2021.
The facemask nonsense, the arbitrary “rule of six”, “2 metres social distancing”, the absurd enforcement of those and other crazy “rules” and the “advice” (whims) of idiotic ministers etc, enforced by dim and/or brainwashed police. Arrests of people doing perfectly ordinary things such as walking in the country, sitting on park benches, sunbathing on beaches, going for a recreational car or bike ride outside the local area. Oh, and don’t forget the socially-mandated “clapathon”, idiots clapping on command outside their houses, notionally “for the NHS”, which NHS was pared back to a kind of skeleton service in reality.
All underpinned by a huge propaganda “fear campaign” in the msm.
It is hard to people now to understand how the Russian Revolution gradually became a total police state. Why did more people not resist? Why did many people comply, and even support the embedded nonsense? These things are not easy to spot whe they are happening. Look around you.
I am not just talking about the “Covid-19” situation. The pushing of the “Black LIves Matter” nonsense too: every ad with blacks in it, or with the multikulti “family” (often a white woman, often blonde, and a black man as husband figure). The same in dramas, “soaps” etc. Even historical dramas, like the recent one showing Ann Boleyn as a black woman!
None of this is a kind of “accident”. People, and not only in the UK, are being played like balalaikas, and most have no idea about it.
