But to its opponents, including many in the government, civil service and intelligence services, the party is a far-Right menace that was recently classified as an extremist group by the country’s equivalent of MI5.

Dystopian Britain growing in plain sight
A few days ago, I took a trip by car, a round-trip of about 200 miles, something I only do occasionally. The journey, from the central-southern English coast, proved more than challenging. Several long waits behind temporary traffic lights made a 2-hour journey more like 3 hours, and the surfacing of even major roads (such as the major trunk route, the A34) is now appallingly-bad in places.
However, that was only the first impression of the day. The once-interesting (in the1970s) city of Oxford, which for some time has been in a state of redevelopment and economic expansion etc, cannot now be accessed by car without paying a congestion charge (nein danke), and the outer zones have become an unpleasant sprawl. Few of those seen trudging along on the streets are European, let alone English.
The drive back was…interesting…but not in a good way. I thought to avoid the unpleasant A34/M3/M27 experience by driving via Swindon and Salisbury. Well, “man proposes but God disposes“, as they say. The roads were not too busy at first, but then became yet another stationary experience. Several sets of “temporary” traffic lights, the wait at each nearly half an hour by reason of the weight of traffic at “going-home time”. Also, the state of the roads, in places, approaches that of the 18thC. Potholes so big that they could fairly be described as dangerous, surfacing generally very poor.
I suppose it was my fault that I somehow got a little lost in Swindon, not an area I know. When I was in my early/mid teens, in the early 1970s, I would occasionally attend the races at Cheltenham with my parents, and on the drive back to the South Oxfordshire/Berkshire area where we lived, we would call in at the then Trust House Forte “Post House” hotel in the then small and undistinguished railway town of Swindon for something to eat.

The town itself, though, seems halfway between a rundown area of what looked like council housing estates, and a semi-American (meaning Essex County New Jersey, really) landscape of fast food outlets, supermarkets, malls etc.
The few people I saw on foot were either black/brown (including a couple of Indians or Paki-stanis dismantling or repairing a car by the roadside) or white “youths” all in “hoodies”. Admittedly, I did not go into the very centre of the town, but I was glad to, eventually, find a way out.
The roads between Swindon and Salisbury were, again, in poor repair, and even the roads between Salisbury and the coast were in a terrible state, though apparently being repaired in places (meaning more long waits as lines of endless-seeming cars and trucks were held up by several more sets of temporary traffic lights).
The thought that came to me repeatedly during that unpleasant and long journey (well over 3 hours) was that Britain is just not working. The roads are just a symptom. The whole country is gradually (?) going to literal rack and ruin.
Not a nation, more a parking lot and shopping/housing landscape, and without racial, cultural, or historical integrity.

Don’t forget what happened when a couple of buildings were destroyed by (supposedly by) two airliners flown into them in New York City in 2001. Ah. Interesting. Looks as though the numbers of alleged victims have been edited down. I thought that the Jews/Israelis were still claiming that about 1,000, or even 1,500, had been killed. Seems that (as happened at the “reconstructed” site of the early 1940s Auschwitz camp, where a “4 million victims” sign was officially altered to about a quarter of that figure), the 1,500 supposedly killed by Palestinian Arabs in southern Israel in 2023 is now 378, at least at the festival itself. When I was at the Bar, I advised and appeared on several such cases in the County Court, both in London and the provinces. Almost all, in fact all, should have settled long before they got to court, long before any barristers were instructed.
I think that I can say that I, and other counsel in the cases known to me, did our best to achieve reasonable closure, but these are cases (often involving trivial amounts of land) where reason always seems to fly out out of the window.
In many cases, all Counsel, solicitors, and the judge in the matter, understand that the matters in question should settle before enormous costs are racked up but, often, the litigants are effectively willing to risk bringing down ruin on themselves for a chance of gaining a victory over their neighbours (with whom they will have to live —nearby— afterwards, after the case ends, whichever way it goes), unless one party sells up and moves (in which event…well, you get my point).
If you told someone to remortgage his house, take out equity of £50,000, £100,000 or more, then go to Las Vegas, and stake the entire amount, maybe in one spin, on red or black at the roulette table, the houseowner would call you crazy, but that is, often, exactly what he or she —often a couple— are willing to do in taking to the County Court (in some cases to the High Court) such cases.
I remember one case I had that was about a wedge-shaped piece of land running the length of a North London suburban garden; at one end it was only about an inch or so wide and, at the other, about a foot.

People of that sort write their rubbish for (in his case) Forbes magazine, the Daily Telegraph etc, and people believe it implicitly because it is in (albeit wrongfully) “trusted” publications, yet much of the content is unreliable. Read Axe’s Wikipedia entry. Not an ex-officer, not a military historian as such, but a writer of fiction primarily, at least until recently. His reporting on military matters has been patchy; refer to the Wikipedia entry.

If so, how much more different are the cultures of Afghanistan, the Middle East, black Africa etc?
I had not heard that kind of silly and ahistorical argument (as in “the Vikings and Normans invaded ‘us’, the Huguenots settled here, and that is not different from millions of blacks and browns coming here“) for some time. I recall reading, in the early 1980s, the biography of the head of the Cheka, Feliks Dzerzhinsky [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_Dzerzhinsky], a book produced in Soviet days (around 1970, I think) but never translated into English. It described, inter alia, how “sabotage” and negligence in various industries, particularly the railways, in the years of post-revolutionary upheaval and civil war (roughly 1918-1923) were combated by shooting those who —allegedly— abused their positions.

In a way, I am surprised at that poll. After all, the younger generations in the UK have been bombarded in their schools with Jewish-Zionist propaganda for many many years, albeit mainly confined to the years 1939-45.
