Stray thought

Saw my first two facemask loonies of the season. One old (80+ years) man, buying fish at a stall, with his (unmasked) wife, and then, in the entrance area of a supermarket, an old woman accompanied by a peculiar young (teen) girl, the girl unmasked and eating, as she trailed behind, a gingerbread-man before 0900 in the morning. The old woman was so concerned about her own health that she bought two packs of cigarettes…

Snoopers, and strongarm thugs.

In Britain, the “lobby” works in a less obvious way…

Unfortunately, that last tweeter has a point:

[“Akehurst is described as a non-Jewish Zionist and from 2011 to 2024 was employed as director of the pro-Israel group We Believe in Israel.[23][27][28] He has described Israel’s actions in Gaza as proportionateMomentum said Akehurst’s views on Israel’s actions were “a slap in the face to voters across the country already outraged by Labour’s failings on Gaza”.[23]“]

“Proportionate“? Hamas operatives supposedly killed somewhere between 500 and 1,300 Jews and others about 2 years ago. Quite many of those were in fact killed by the usual triggerhappy Israeli Jew soldiers, operating a kind of scorched earth protocol.

In retaliation, and as a genocidal policy designed to clear the whole of the Gaza Strip of Palestinian Arabs, [Israeli] Jews have, in the past 2+ years, killed or badly wounded about 200,000 Gazans, mostly civilians, mostly women and children in fact. The survivors are starved, many of them, deprived of medicines, most of them, and also forced, many of them, to live without shelter, or in tents, and without basic services such as water supply and sanitation.

Akehurst is a disgrace to this country.

Israel is doomed.

The “soldiers” of the Kiev regime are brave enough when fighting an unarmed Ukrainian civilian, and in a proportion of about 15 to 1, but on the battlefield they are not so successful, and are being pushed back daily by Russian forces (the Kiev regime is losing up to 2,000 men every day, not including a huge number of desertions).

Naturally, no-one wants to serve in the Kiev-regime army; the front-lines are a death sentence. That is why the corrupt and brutal dictatorship has to beat up and kidnap citizens on the streets.

Hyperbole, but he is more right than wrong.

That has been replaced this year, at least temporarily, by a giant stylized Jewish “menorah” display, apparently.

Take the case of someone who builds his own house on land his family have occupied for generations. In an unguarded moment, he allows someone, perhaps someone rightly or otherwise evicted from other houses, to stay there, and that feral person, when the owner is not paying attention, takes over, makes the true owner live in inferior circumstances nearby, then exhibits all the characteristics of the true owner, despite being just an illegitimate squatter…

Kay Burley was one of the worst treacherous individuals of the msm.

Her pathetic argument there would not hold much water were it applied to a bold cat burglar who risks all to “have it away” with Ms. Burley’s (I believe extensive) jewellery collection…

An American tweet. I do not have to hand the exact statistics of the UK in relation to this, except that the Jewish population in the UK is closer to 0.5%, but the overall situation is similar, mutatis mutandis.

Yes. That second tweeter is right.

That opinion poll is even more stunning than many other recent polls. Translates to a House of Commons with about 441 Reform UK MPs (a huge overall majority), 53 Greens (making the Greens the official Opposition, albeit a very weak one), 42 SNP, 40 LibDems, 21 Cons, 18 Lab [etc].

You can see why the Greens, despite their pathetic bad-joke policies, are overtaking Labour in some polls, such as this one. Labour is empty of not only helpful policy offerings, but empty of decent sentiment, and also devoid of people who are both competent and incorrupt.

Those who want something at least semi-socialist (if naively so) are going Green. Also, to punish the fakery of Starmer-stein “Labour”.

Reform, too, is being supported not for its policies —or personalities— as such, but because it at least promises to cut some of the immigration and migration invasion, and bring back some law and order. People are supporting it for that, and because each vote for Reform means one more knife stuck into both Lab and Con, as in Murder on the Orient Express. People are getting seriously angry at both Lab and Con, as I have blogged for some time. Reform UK and Farage are the main beneficiaries of that.

That is why all the recent petty (and contrived) scandal and scuttlebutt about Farage and his people is not cutting through. People know Farage and Reform are flawed but will vote for them anyway, to get at Con and Lab, to stamp on them.

For me, Reform is a good way to being down the fake “two main parties” (and dustbin alternative LibDem) System. If/when Reform fails to rule the UK properly, real social nationalism can arise. “At the end stands Victory!“…

I would love to see all those Lab and Con careerists lose their seats, as well as incomes, perks, side-hustles etc. Upset and tears, no doubt, but “Moscow does not believe in tears“, in the old saying.

Late tweets seen

That was tweeted by a Jew in Australia, but you see the same sort of sentiment on Twitter/X etc in the UK.

Look at the Gaza slaughter. Nearly 100,000 Arab Palestinians killed by Jews over the past two years or so, as against maybe 500 Jews killed two years ago by Hamas operatives in southern Israel/Palestine. A ratio of 200:1.

Targeting civilians?” What has the Jewish state of Israel been doing for many decades, and particularly in the past couple of years? Gaza alone: 200,000 dead and injured, the vast majority civilians, the majority women and children.

“They” really cannot see themselves. Group-delusion.

Jews around the world are and have been, many of them, applauding the Gaza slaughter; few have openly opposed it.

Indeed, according to Jew-Zionist organizations such as the so-called “Campaign Against Antisemitism”, perhaps 96% of UK Jews support Israel, which at least implies that they, or most of them, support what Israel has been doing in Gaza for over two years.

Goodwin means manslaughter, not murder; otherwise correct.

The usual pro-“ethnic minority” (who will soon be, collectively, the majority…) tweeters are all attacking Goodwin, saying “it was just a slap” etc… Bottom line, a n** killed a white man who was trying to ask for decent behaviour, and now the untermensch will be out in about 3 years. Fact.

Wall. Squad. End.

As noted earlier.

In what way can this pose as “democracy”?

The only good thing is that a real and angry head of steam is building up in this country. If it blows, Starmer-stein, Angela Rayner, Yvette Cooper, Rachel Reeves, Lammy etc will be blown off their perches forever.

For once, I wholeheartedly agree with Shelagh Fogarty. We Europeans do not have to respect the backward “customs” and habits of non-Europeans. We can ban both male and female genital mutilation (eg Jewish and Muslim circumcision), we can ban halal meat slaughter, we can ban kosher meat slaughter. (etc). We are Europeans, in Europe, and therefore hold society to European standards.

It would help, though, if British and other European-origin women actually learned to behave properly. Many do, some do not.

Brought a smile to my face.

Talking point

Farage is, of course, correct. This blog has been warning about it for the past 8-9 years (since 2016/2017), and in exactly the same terms.

Societal collapse is not usually immediate, but may take decades, or even hundreds of years (as in “the Fall of the Roman Empire”). It does not necessarily look dramatic, especially in the early stages.

It would be very good to see freeloading and thick-as-two-short-planks “diversity hire”, Lammy, indicted and on trial.

Imagine what might happen if a couple of atomic “suitcase bombs” were to explode in the USA, say one in New York City and another in Washington D.C….

The Jewish lobby in countries such as the UK is “standing with Israel”, and so is complicit in the crimes of Israeli Jews. Organizations such as the evil/malicious “Campaign Against Antisemitism” or “CAA”, operating anonymously out of post office boxes etc, are semi-clandestine offshoots of the Israeli Embassy, and abuse the English legal system, including the criminal justice system, in a kind of politically-motivated “lawfare”.

In the UK, we harbour a “fifth column”, which should be rooted out.

…about which the Jew-Zionist lobby is either silent, or actually blames the child (and other) victims, and while continuing to whine endlessly about what the Germans are alleged to have done to Jews sometime around 1944, over 80 years ago…

Notional result at election— Reform 304 MP (22 short of bare majority), Labour 171, LibDems 71, Cons 44, SNP 26 (etc).

The important thing is that, as in all opinion polls for almost the past year, Reform still leads Labour. Also, the decline of the Con Party continues. It is bumping along the bottom of its core support now. Most are very elderly people, and many of them will not even survive to see the next general election, still anything up to 4 years away. I feel that the Con Party is finished. It has lost relevance, and really much of its default credibility.

[A Rainy Day at Lower Regent Street, by Tushar Sabale]

Quite atmospheric.

The Foreign Office once had a kind of down-at-heel outstation in Lower Regent Street, a building called Charles House. Further down the street, out of view of that painting (behind where the artist must have stood), and on the other side of the street, a building so unmemorable that few will have noticed its departure. I do not think that it even had “Foreign and Commonwealth Office” on the outside, just “Charles House”.

I see now that, the outside obviously having been cleaned of a century of grime, it is currently, or was recently, being offered for commercial rental: https://www.gryphonpropertypartners.com/property-details/charles-house-5-11-regent-street-sw1/154.html

Just found it on Rightmove. Lease offered by something called Levy Properties or similar. Wouldn’t you know?…

The interior seen on Rightmove now looks very bright and open-plan, quite different to what it was in 1978 or 1979, when I had to go there once (some bureaucratic nonsense about my passport, which was being held by them).

The building was then very dark and gloomy, there were few if any people about, and the visitor (I was the only one, it seemed) was, and had to be, closely escorted by an unsmiling old dragon dressed in a dark-blue uniform, a bit like the female prison guards sometimes seen in old British films. The few windows were draped in thick and filthy net curtains (to deter both snoopers and bomb fragments; this was still IRA-terrorism days).

The dragon took me to the room in question, and waited for me outside, later escorting me back to the very unwelcoming front desk, and making sure I left.

[George Buchanan (1506-1582); https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Buchanan]

George Buchanan (Scottish Gaelic: Seòras Bochanan; February 1506 – 28 September 1582) was a Scottish historian and humanist scholar. According to historian Keith Brown, Buchanan was “the most profound intellectual sixteenth century Scotland produced.” His ideology of resistance to royal usurpation gained widespread acceptance during the Scottish Reformation. Brown says the ease with which King James VII was deposed in 1689 shows the power of Buchananite ideas.[1]

His treatise De Jure Regni apud Scotos, published in 1579, discussed the doctrine that the source of all political power is the people, and that the king is bound by those conditions under which the supreme power was first committed to his hands, and that it is lawful to resist, even to punish, tyrants. The importance of Buchanan’s writings is shown by the suppression of his work by James VI and the British legislatures in the century following their publication. It was condemned by act of parliament in 1584, and burned by the University of Oxford in 1664 and 1683.[2]

Three girls enjoy the sunshine in the latest a la mode sunglasses.

Shoppers meander through a market piled high with fruit and veg. There is barely a seat to be had at the fashionable Cafe des Deux Magots in the chi-chi Paris quarter of Saint-Germain-de-Pres.

At Longchamps, France’s smartest racecourse, the It-girls of the day are parading in dazzling hats.

According to received wisdom among the French, the Occupation was a time of unspeakable deprivation and cruelty.

That is the story France has been repeating to itself for 64 years [as of 2008], ever since General de Gaulle turned up in a Paris newly-liberated by the Americans and praised a “martyred” capital for bravely freeing itself.

But it is not exactly the story which leaps out of these pictures.

“I’m lovin’ it!

Trump, of course, as an American businessman, a businessman involved with real estate in, inter alia, New York City, at that, has been dealing with the American Jewish business element for his whole life, pretty much. He understands Zelensky’s negotiating style, and is unwilling to be bamboozled by it.

It looks increasingly likely that Russian tanks will be at the gates of Kiev before very long, probably in 2026 if not later in 2025.

It is actually laughable that “little Britons” such as Dan Hodges, among many, think in terms of the supposed importance of royal invitations etc, and how “crushing” to such as Trump (and, notionally, Putin etc) being disinvited to some visit or meeting must be. They really are living in a little parochial Westminster Bubble. I love the (now long-defunct) British Empire, but that was then. The world has now moved to a different place.

Dan Hodges, Rory Stewart, all that type, think that the UK can “take a stand” against Trump (and the USA), after having been “America’s poodle” for at least 35 years if not 85 years.

Ha ha! Forget it. Even if there is some pointless protest, they will not be serving drinks.

So Trump and Vance are “very small people”, according to one Alex Massie, a real “Little Briton”, it seems [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Massie_(journalist)].

I love that all these enemies of Britain’s better future, and Europe’s better future, are being put in their place by proxy. Most if not all of them are pro-Israel, pro-Jewish Lobby etc (I do not know whether Massie is such, but he writes or has written for Murdoch’s Times, Sunday Times etc, so… prima facie?…).

I suppose I can concede that there is an unmistakeable whiff of The Beverly Hillbillies about the Trump White House. Not so much Trump himself, but some of the entourage.

A long way from the sophistication of the Kennedy years of “American Camelot”…

The main thing, though, is that the international agenda, and indeed the post-1945 international order, is being reset. Britain is not involved, not as a player. It is, at most, an object, as are the other western and central European states.

This is the down-the-line result of Europe’s defeat in the Second World War. Europe was defeated, in big-picture terms, by western oligarchy (the USA) and eastern despotism (the Soviet Union), mainly. The UK started to be a vassal-state of the USA.

Now, the USA finds that it does not really need the UK even as “America’s unsinkable aircraft carrier” as someone (F.D. Roosevelt?) once called it. Result? Vassal-state UK has been dismissed by Trump’s USA, as has Starmer.

Trump

Trump looking presidential, in a way that he rarely did even when he was President before.

If he can survive the campaign and get re-elected, his personal history, and his personal flaws, can take a back seat. He can stop funding Zelensky and the whole Kiev regime. That can be his first task.

Trump may be in a position, if or when re-elected, to call a halt to the rush to world war. That is the issue of primary importance.

From the newspapers

https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/24453094.warrant-issued-barge-asylum-seeker-bit-police-officer/

An arrest warrant has been issued for an asylum seeker who tried to bring cannabis onto the Bibby Stockholm barge and then bit a police officer when he was being arrested.

Kenson Noel, aged 29, pleaded guilty at Weymouth Magistrates Court on June 7 to possession of a class B drug and assault by beating of Portland Port Police officer Christopher Grant.

The charges relate to an incident on May 16, 2024.

He was due to be sentenced today at Poole Magistrates Court but did not appear.

This triggered a warrant for his arrest to be issued by the court.

The court previously heard that Noel, whose address was given as a hotel in Bournemouth, is an asylum seeker who fled Trinidad and Tobago after being threatened by gangs.

Archaeologists have finally traced a lost alphabet that puzzled scholars for decades back to a 3,000 year-old civilization of Biblical significance.

Since 1964, archaeologists have found 15 different tablets with strange carvings at the site of an ancient settlement in Jordan.

Thanks to new analysis, archaeologists have found that they were likely made by the Canaanites, an indigenous group who thrived in the Middle East until the second half of the 13th century BC.

The Canaanites resided in ‘the Promised Land’ from 3500BC until 1200BC before they were conquered by Israeli tribes following their Exodus from Egypt.

The Canaanites are mentioned several times in the old testament, including the books of Genesis, Leviticus, Deuteronomy and Joshua.

Federal Judge Aileen Cannon has dismissed the classified documents case against Donald Trump in a bombshell ruling less than 48 hours after the former president was shot at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Trump was accused of taking highly sensitive national security documents to his Mar-a-Lago estate when he left the White House, and FBI agents seized a trove of material during a search of his Florida home in August 2022.

Judge Cannon threw the case out based on ‘violations’ of the Constitution’s Appointments and Appropriations clauses.

In her ruling, she found that the appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith was unconstitutional.

The decision has an enormous impact on Trump’s legal battles, and he now faces just two criminal trials in Georgia and the federal court in Washington D.C.

A year ago, Trump’s classified documents case appeared to be his most serious legal threat: perhaps easier to prove than Trump’s January 6 case, which relied on public statements, tweets and complex schemes involving electors around the country to charge a complex conspiracy to overturn the election.

Fuck it. I’m just gonna come out and say it. After a lot of thought, I am now 100% behind Donald Trump for President. Let me explain my reasoning…

Trump fell short in many ways in his first term. He was weaker than he should have been on the border. He appointed people to his cabinet that frankly stained his image and sunk his reputation. He let us down with the vaccines and Operation Warp Speed. But it’s about more than Donald Trump. It’s always been about more than Trump.

He has awakened the sleeping giant in America and across the world. People have hit breaking point. And they are sick to the back teeth of the status quo. For all my reservations, I do believe at heart his intentions are mostly good. Compare and contrast him to a demented old man who doesn’t remember what he had for breakfast.

What happened on Saturday night pushed me over the edge. They have tried everything to stop this man. Impeachment, election rigging, lawfare and now an attempted assassination in broad daylight. It’s not about trying to stop Trump. It’s about trying to stop a populist uprising.

In these times we can’t be picky. Trump isn’t going to fix all our problems. Trump isn’t going to save the world. We are living through a time of pure evil, the likes of which only God can protect us from. But we have to rebuild, we have to reorganise. We all have differences of opinion on various issues but ultimately we all see the evil in this world and we all want to make a change. And I believe the best start to that work is to get behind Donald Trump and use our influence to push for the change we want to see.”

Ha ha…yes, but the joke is on us…

The System promotes idiots like that, making sure that they can wave a few bits of paper (tick-box degrees, diplomas etc) if challenged, as a way of accelerating the destruction of European civilization.

Even the System msm cannot ignore the migration invasion completely, because the public has started to awaken and, indeed, become fearful of what is happening, and what might and probably will happen not so far down the road.

The Twitter-twits, and the System politicians, have been laughing at the Reform UK result at GE 2024 (“only 5 MPs” etc), but the underlying reality is that, out of nearly 29M actual votes, Reform UK got over 4.1M, the Conservative Party only 6.8M, and victorious Labour 9.8M.

Labour received under 10M votes, and has 411 MPs, despite only getting about (indeed, less than) two-and-a-half times the number of votes cast for Reform UK, fobbed off with merely 5 MPs.

As noted in previous blog posts, for every 20 people who were eligible to vote at GE 2024, a plurality, 8 people, did not bother to vote, probably because they were disenchanted with the whole set-up.

Out of that group of 20 people, only 4 actually voted Labour.

Another 3 out of the 20 voted Conservative; 2 voted Reform UK. 2 also voted LibDem (which however received only 3.5M votes as against Reform’s 4.1M). (Almost) 1 notional voter out of the 20 voted Green, which party received 1.8M votes.

The point is that Reform UK is, at least in part, “controlled opposition” but, notwithstanding that, over 4 million people decided to register their anger by voting for it. Another 19.6 million did not vote.

It is possible that, were a credible social-national movement to exist, a substantial part of the 19.6M non-voting bloc, as well as a large part of Reform UK’s 4.1M bloc, might vote for, or otherwise support it.

Remember, out of every 20 adult people in the UK, only 4 voted for Starmer-Labour.

Starmer-Labour has no real mandate from the people.

Happened to see part of one of those fly-on-the-wall cop shows, called Police Interceptors. The bit I saw concerned a raid on a house where a man was thought to be trading in drugs.

The police arrived in force, were ready to bust open the front door but found it unlocked, so went in and took control of the property. The man named on the warrant was not at home, but his wife/girlfriend/whatever was, along with her small and terrified children.

In the kitchen, the police found large bags stuffed with herbal cannabis, apparently harvested from the marijuana farm in the attic, which the police also found. They also found little plastic bags used for retail sales of the drug.

The woman was arrested only because the wanted man refused to give himself up, but was in touch with the woman by telephone, under police guard, and was apparently nearby. He gave himself up a few days later.

What interested me was that I should have thought that there was ample evidence to prosecute them both for “possession with intent to supply”, but in the end the woman was released (I was distracted so missed the exact outcome, I think an official caution), and her husband/boyfriend/co-habitee was apparently not charged with anything!

A big raid, the police all dressed up in the paramilitary style to which they have become accustomed, warrants obtained, searches made, drugs found, arrests made and, in the end…nothing.

The police and CPS need to start dealing with (real) crime, rather than snooping on tweets and blog posts and generally behaving like a poundland Stasi.

This country is now pretty close to running on empty.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12003445/Stricken-3-2BN-Royal-Navy-aircraft-carrier-HMS-Prince-Wales-reduced-acting-scrap-yard.html

Britain’s £3.2 billion aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales has been reduced to acting as a scrap-yard. Essential pieces of equipment are being ripped out of the stricken warship, a move that raises questions over its long-term future.

The UK’s second carrier has been in dry dock since breaking down off Portsmouth in August 2022.

Now Navy top brass have begun stripping the carrier – a process known as ‘cannibalisation’ – which will render HMS Prince of Wales inoperable for much longer. Lift chains, which allow fighter jets to be raised from below deck, electrical systems and sections of the ship’s gas turbines have been taken out.

[Daily Mail]

So will the few functioning ships of the Royal Navy now be tasked to fight Russia? Or China? Both? Or neither?

The UK armed forces have become a bad joke. They cannot even protect our own borders from migration-invasion by untermenschen.

Better not rename HMS Prince of Wales as the HMS Charles III. If it were to break down again, people might start to see parallels with the Monarchy…

Are the Scottish people finally waking up to the ludicrous faux-“nationalism” of the SNP?

He is right.

Another African post-colonial success story. Oh, no, wait…

A shambolic failed state. Without foreign money, arms, ammunition and direct intelligence flow, Kiev-regime “Ukraine” would now be merely territory to be occupied.

Pretty miserable. Morale must be rock-bottom…

Sudan was once just one minor part of our huge and generally well-run Empire. Pity that that has passed into history. Now the blacks and browns fight for the right to cream off the bribes that accompany power in black Africa and elsewhere.

Yes, but so is the fake “Opposition”. Get rid of both.

“Euthanasia” or State-sanctioned killing of the “inconvenient”, not in National Socialist Germany, not even in Stalin’s Soviet Union, but in our supposedly “caring sharing” UK, in the 21st Century.

The Jew Zelensky is somewhere between dictator and figurehead, or between figurehead and puppet, and his regime has shot or imprisoned its political opponents, closed down trade unions, and repressed free speech.

It is noticeable that, in Western news photos and footage, the Ukrainian children repatriated to Ukraine, after having spent time in Russia, always look happy and well-fed.

Why on Earth would Russia, which left Marxism-Leninism behind 30+ years ago, want to invade Western Europe (inc. UK)? How could it even try? The whole idea is ludicrous.

More “trans” nonsense

We know the way all of that is probably going to end, somewhere down the line…

What is it when, like —and yet unlike— those souls noted in Gray’s Elegy, some “wade through slaughter“, not “to a throne“, but simply “pro bono publico“? Duty? Higher law? “For the welfare of the people is the highest law“: salus populi suprema lex esto [Cicero, De Legibus].

American memories

Idly “surfing the net”, I came across a brief obituary of a lady I had met a few times between late 1989 and early 1993, during which years I spent about half my time in the USA (mostly in New Jersey and New York City). I shall not name the lady or her family.

In 1989, I travelled with my then fiancee from New Jersey (near the Jersey Shore) to Fox Chapel, an affluent semi-rural area near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, we having been invited to spend Thanksgiving with a family there.

The couple who owned the large, comfortable house were in their fifties, and their daughter, aged about 25, was a friend of my then fiancee. The father of that family was a nuclear scientist, and his wife what the Americans charmingly call a “homemaker”, a much more respectful term, I think, than the Anglo-German terms “housewife” or “hausfrau”. American to the core, they had both been born and brought up in the Mid-West, but had also lived in Belgium, and had travelled very widely, to dozens of countries from Mexico to the Soviet Union.

The house, though on a semi-rural, semi-suburban road with a few other similarly-large houses, had a large hinterland, mostly not so much a “garden” as a tranche of forest; I think they said about 40 acres, where some of Pennsylvania’s millions of deer were often seen.

The lady’s husband was a tough but very decent type, very solid (in both senses), rather like a more intelligent version of John Wayne (to my European perception). He was a fan of American football, and I think that he had played football himself at college (university) level.

I admired the lady’s collection of Palekh lacquer boxes [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palekh_miniature], and also their very American cars, his a Cadillac (I forget the model), and hers a Lincoln Town Car, probably my own favourite at the time, though I myself did not have a licence then (I only held a driving licence —a foreign one— from 1999, and a UK one from 2002).

The couple were very hospitable to me; I have always remembered them with good feelings.

I last saw the couple in Maryland, in (I think) 1992.

The lady mentioned died a few years ago, it seems, aged 85 (at that time, at least, her husband was still living). I was unaware until today, not having kept up with any of those I knew or met so long ago.

I have been struck recently by renewed realization at how transient life is in any one incarnation. We must do what we can while we are still on the Earth.

When you consider that cannabis-smoking is more prevalent among the lower-IQ groups in society, such as West Indians, the functioning of persons in those groups is likely to be lowered further yet (than it already is). How can an advanced society be created, or even the present one maintained, with such a population as a basis?

Interesting obituary

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/oct/17/el-alamein-dresden-and-a-cold-war-spy-the-incredible-life-of-victor-gregg

After El Alamein, Vic transferred to the Parachute Regiment and was dropped into Arnhem. He fought for 10 days until he was captured. He could never understand how he survived. He was a machine gunner and every other man assigned to the weapon was killed. “Twelve of them, Rick, I’ve got more lives than a cat.” As a prisoner of war, Vic sabotaged a soap factory and for this “crime against the Reich” was condemned to death. He was taken to Dresden and held in a huge makeshift prison with 500 other doomed men. That night the allies bombed the city. A 1,000lb bomb blew in one of the walls and a stunned Vic stumbled into the hell of the firestorm.

He was in the city for over a week. During the raid, he saw women, men and children trying to escape the flames in huge water tanks set up by the fire brigade and boiling to death; he saw others burning in molten tarmac and yet others sucked into the air with their heads on fire, their bodies exploding in the heat. Vic told me that he was used to killing, had held men in his arms as he pushed his bayonet into their stomachs, smelling their breath and staring into their dying eyes. “Nothing Rick, nothing, had prepared me for what I saw in that raid. It was a war crime,” he said.
