Thought for today

I watched on TV a few minutes of the Remembrance Sunday march of old soldiers past the Cenotaph in Whitehall.

Naturally, such an occasion is always tinged with sadness. So many failed to return, especially from the First World War. My own maternal grandmother had two brothers killed in that war (both captains in the Berks and Bucks Light Infantry); one killed in France in, I believe, 1915, the other on the Somme in 1916.

Of course, there would now be no WW1-serving soldiers on that march, and few, if any, from WW2.

I paused to wonder what might be the views of those marching about the state of the country today. At a guess, not favourable.

My overall feeling, watching the still-proud ranks marching, was that the march has really nothing to do with the UK and its society today. It might as well have been ranks of Roman legionaries marching there. The same goes for so many other ceremonies and institutions which, until quite recently, say 35 years ago, were an accepted part of the national fabric.

The migration-invasion is now the pre-eminent electoral issue in the UK (and elsewhere) but there is still a big bloc of “I’m OK” idiots for whom rubbish such as football, rugby, cricket, lesbianki “lionesses”, X-Factor, Strictly Come Dancing etc take precedence in their little minds.

Translates to a Commons with about 428 Reform MPs, 80 Lab, 42 LibDem, 42 SNP, 14 Con, 9 Greens (etc).

My own opinion is that, by reason of the old System main parties, Lab and Con, now being equally hated and despised, very many people will vote Reform just to stamp on those two old parties; others will vote Reform because it is the only alternative now thought likely to have a chance.

Reform may end up with 450 MPs, it may end up with “only” 250, or even fewer; we shall have to see. I think that the “Conservatives” will slip lower as their natural hard core of elderly and very elderly pensioners start to pass away. Labour is also doomed, unless Starmer-stein is replaced by some figure able to appeal to a cross-section of voters.

At present, I see no sign of that. At one time I thought that Dan Jarvis might be a superficially-credible such figure, but his several years of toeing the Labour Party line, kow-towing to the Jewish/Israel lobby, and having nothing worthwhile to say about anything, have diminished him, visibly. No chance.

The present polling takes no account of either the Islamist independents or of Corbyn’s nascent “Your Party”.

I just fed my own speculations into Electoral Calculus, and came up with Reform 444 MPs, Lab 68, LibDems 50, SNP 40, Greens 15, and Cons…1 (etc). If “Your Party” were to get 5-10 MPs, then Labour would be reduced by the same amount accordingly.

Pie in the sky for now…

Then the same must be true, mutatis mutandis, of criticism of Jewish behaviour/Judaism/Zionism/Israel-ism/”holocaust” nonsense etc.

I still regret having missed the (apparently excellent) talk given by John le Carre (David Cornwell), the author of Tinker Tailor and similar books, at the G.B.-U.S.S.R. Association offices and library circa 1984. That was an organization in Grosvenor Place, London S.W.1., funded by the Foreign Office as a kind of para-diplomatic/cultural thing; the small staff (librarian, assistant librarian, and Director) were paid and employed on Foreign Office pay and conditions. The organization went back to 1959; several ex-Prime Ministers had belonged.

I joined mainly in order to use their library of Russian and English books, the windows of which library, a few floors up from ground level, overlooked the gardens of Buckingham Palace. I also took part in basic Russian language sessions.

That organization no longer exists. It was renamed in the early 1990s, moved to a ghastly brown-coloured office building near the (also now gone, and redeveloped) Nine Elms vegetable market at Vauxhall, then closed down as a result, in part, of government spending cuts (circa 1996).

Well, among them I would name the Bar, the Inns of Court, the system of “KC” appointment, the legal system generally, the court system, the prison system, the police, the Foreign Office, the Church of England, the whole political system and electoral system, the Civil Service, local government, the banking system, the Monarchy, the wider honours system, the RNLI, the National Trust [etc].

Britain needs a real Border Force, not the present Border Farce which actually ferries migrant invaders into the UK!

Of course, the old East German force called the Grenzpolizei (Border Police) had a dual role, as much aimed at keeping the working-age population of the DDR in as keeping smugglers, spies etc out…

I have to say that the Grenzpolizei, on the couple of occasions when I encountered them, were both amiable and alarmingly efficient, for example when I and my driver were processed through a small crossing-point (we were the only car, in fact the only vehicle travelling West, in an hour spent there). They (politely, efficiently) emptied the contents of the car (a Volvo estate or station-wagon), then partially dismantled the car, taking out, entirely, various parts, including the seats (they did put it all together again later).

While many who are hostile to Reform will be crowing because Plaid Cymru won that by-election, in big-picture terms the second place for Reform is far more significant.

Plaid only does well in a few places in Wales, and makes no pretence of being a UK-wide party. It has 4 MPs at Westminster (out of 32 Welsh seats), 2 peers (out of 828), and 14 Senedd members (out of 60).

Reform has just captured 36% of the votes at the Caerphilly by-election, more than impressive from a standing start and for a party basically perceived as English.

The main System parties have been trashed by the voters who bothered to vote (turnout was just over 50%): Labour, the previous holders of the seat, fell from 45.9% to a mere 11%. The Conservative party fell far too, from 17.3% to a mere 2%. Reform’s 35% this time can be compared to its previous result (2.2%, though some sources say 1.7%; no matter).

This has huge implications for both local and Westminster elections in England, of course.

Reform has achieved this level of support not because people love it, its policies, or its leader, Farage, but because people now hate and despise both main System parties. The SNP suddenly became pre-eminent in Scotland in 2015 not because many Scots loved or much-supported it, but because the Labour and other parties’ votes collapsed.

Think about it. Labour support overall is running at about 15%-25%, say 20% or thereabouts. Britain is now 20% non-white; Muslims are about 8% or maybe 10% of the population. Until recently, almost all voted Labour. Hardly any white English voters, in particular, now intend to vote Labour.

Dan Hodges trying to spin the Caerphilly result as not terribly good for Reform UK, despite their vote having increased from around 2% to 36%! Look at Labour— 11%. Or Conservative Party— 2%.

Another way to look on the Caerphilly result might be to say that, if Reform can get a 36% result in a core part of Wales, what will it be getting in much of England.

I have no quarrel with that, but Dan Hodges is trying to stem the tide with words.

It may well be that Reform cannot get more, overall, than 35% or even a few points below that (in that poll, 29%). What Hodges does not seem to want to say, though, is that a party which gets even 29% in a general election can very easily still be the party that gets a plurality of votes and a plurality of Commons seats, maybe even a majority of seats.

On the figures above, Reform would still get about 370 Commons seats, and a solid majority. Labour might get 89 seats, the LibDems 69, the SNP 45, Cons about 21, and Greens 18.

Conservative Party would be only the fifth-largest party in the Commons.

Yes, but the idea that voters who dislike Reform will vote tactically on a big enough scale to stop the Reform deluge is very doubtful. Dent the juggernaut, yes, stop it, no. Some of the results might be unpredictable.

If Hodges says that Caerphilly was bad for Farage and Reform, how much worse was it for Starmer and Labour, or Badenoch and the Con Party?

As previously blogged, neither side should be directly targeting civilians.

How about tackling the problem of Israeli “proxies”, and the Israeli “Fifth Column” in the UK?

So without tactical anti-Reform voting, an overall 25% vote for Reform UK would give Reform 200+ votes, maybe 250. With tactical voting, Reform might get “only” 150-200…

The System drones are getting desperate. Even 150 MPs is massive for a party which presently has half a dozen. Also, from where does the “25%” come? Reform is currently far higher in the polls and was, recently, as high as 36%.

The fact is that the “Overton Window” is moving fast now. The Lab and Con System parties are dying. Reform, though underwhelming, is a symptom of the (mainly) white, mainly English voters losing patience.

If Reform forms a government but then fails to do “the necessary”, real social nationalism can take the reins, with the support of enough people to take power. The NSDAP in Germany had only 2.6% of the national vote in 1928, but by 1932 had 33%, and Hitler was able to take over the rulership of the country.

Starmer-stein’s Labour Friends of Israel regime is in trouble…

If fake Labour can lose about three-quarters (in fact, more than 3/4) of their previous vote in formerly rock-solid Caerphilly, in South Wales, where Labour votes were once said to be “weighed not counted“, the fall in support in most parts of England must surely be as much or more, arguende. If so, then the number of Labour MPs in or after 2029 would surely be somewhere around 75.

Likewise, but even more striking, the Con vote in Caerphilly was around one-eighth of its previous level. Were that to happen in England and at a general election, the number of Con MPs would be around 15.

What a pity. I like France, and enjoyed my 4 years living in Finistere (and commuting every couple of weeks to the UK). I should be sorry to see France, including Finistere (which has a major submarine base on the Crozon Peninsula) all but annihilated by nuclear attack.

The action that makes sense would be to actually have proper security on Britain’s few remaining RAF bases, and not to label a small protest group “terrorist”; which will, in any case, only drive the situation underground, I should imagine.

When I lived in Devon and Cornwall (both, first in a large country house in Cornwall, then in a farmhouse in Devon), I would see badgers at night quite often; sometimes, on the Devon side of the Tamar, I would drive down an almost unused single-track lane at night which was a back-lane off a back-lane. Of course, these days in the UK, people cannot be identified as Roma Gypsies; they must always be referred to as “Romanians”, which is both inaccurate and, also, insulting to real Romanians.

A similar pathology is seen in the reporting about the dreadful Air India crash a couple of days ago. We are told that, among the hundreds of dead in the crash, 53 were “British”. What that means, of course, is that 53 were Indians who had British passports. As the Guardian put it: “British man is sole survivor of Air India plane crash that left more than 260 dead. On Thursday night, Air India confirmed that 241 of those on board had been killed in the crash, with a Briton, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor.”

Another example of this distorting-mirror is when German soldiers, sailors, or airmen of WW2 are referred to, even in large contingents, as “Nazis” (National Socialists). Thus we might read (or hear on the BBC) that such and such number of “Nazi ships” were in a sea battle, or that “Nazi armies” did this or that.

Incidentally, you can see “the usual” (((the usual))) influence in that Wikipedia piece, with the article itself headed as “Nazi Party“, not “National Socialist Party” or “NSDAP”. I had thought that Matt Goodwin would use the by-election to launch a front-line political bid. Maybe he thought it too much of a risk, but risk is the lifeblood of politics.

Not sure how accurate is the contention that counter-intelligence is the “main function” of the FBI; not much, I think. The FBI was set up or, rather, re-established under J. Edgar Hoover (“the New Bu‘”) to deal with the wave of interstate criminality that arose after the First World War.

Counter-intelligence and counter-espionage was not its main role then, though Hoover did try to counter both Soviet espionage and, from about 1941, German espionage and sabotage. He had some successes, but was always likely to do whatever led to favourable headlines in newspapers, even if that might prejudice delicate investigations.

Zelensky should have been eliminated three years ago, as part of a swift and near-bloodless takeover. That never happened.

All in retaliation, persistent and inhuman retaliation, for an attack by Gazans on southern Israel about 18 months ago, during which hundreds of Israeli Jews died, though many from the “friendly fire” of their own armed forces.

I disagree with Goodwin there on one point: “Ukraine” (Kiev regime) does not need to be involved in negotiations to end the war, because Zelensky’s cabal has no legitimacy and, crucially, without outside help the Kiev regime side would collapse in weeks, maybe even in days. Trump, of course, as an American businessman, a businessman involved with real estate in, inter alia, New York City, at that, has been dealing with the American Jewish business element for his whole life, pretty much. He understands Zelensky’s negotiating style, and is unwilling to be bamboozled by it.

It is actually laughable that “little Britons” such as Dan Hodges, among many, think in terms of the supposed importance of royal invitations etc, and how “crushing” to such as Trump (and, notionally, Putin etc) being disinvited to some visit or meeting must be. They really are living in a little parochial Westminster Bubble. I love the (now long-defunct) British Empire, but that was then. The world has now moved to a different place.

Dan Hodges, Rory Stewart, all that type, think that the UK can “take a stand” against Trump (and the USA), after having been “America’s poodle” for at least 35 years if not 85 years.

I love that all these enemies of Britain’s better future, and Europe’s better future, are being put in their place by proxy. Most if not all of them are pro-Israel, pro-Jewish Lobby etc (I do not know whether Massie is such, but he writes or has written for Murdoch’s Times, Sunday Times etc, so… prima facie?…).

I suppose I can concede that there is an unmistakeable whiff of The Beverly Hillbillies about the Trump White House. Not so much Trump himself, but some of the entourage.

A long way from the sophistication of the Kennedy years of “American Camelot”…

The main thing, though, is that the international agenda, and indeed the post-1945 international order, is being reset. Britain is not involved, not as a player. It is, at most, an object, as are the other western and central European states.

This is the down-the-line result of Europe’s defeat in the Second World War. Europe was defeated, in big-picture terms, by western oligarchy (the USA) and eastern despotism (the Soviet Union), mainly. The UK started to be a vassal-state of the USA.

Now, the USA finds that it does not really need the UK even as “America’s unsinkable aircraft carrier” as someone (F.D. Roosevelt?) once called it. Result? Vassal-state UK has been dismissed by Trump’s USA, as has Starmer.
