I happened to be watching a recorded episode of Celebrity Chase quiz show. As a matter of fact, and though I am giving a hostage to fortune by saying so maybe 4 years ahead of the next general election, I can see the Conservative Party possibly, plausibly, getting as low as 10% of the vote. Why?
Well, the Cons, though at 17% in the latest polling, have recently been as low as 14%. It is known that the bulk of the Con vote, indeed almost all of its vote in 2024, has come from those over 50, with the hard core being over 70. Natural wastage will deplete that core considerably over the 4 years up to late 2029.
Hardly anyone under 40 is going to vote Con in 2029. That is reinforced by the fact that the proportion of those who are non-white is growing rapidly, and that trend is more pronounced the younger the age group. Few non-whites in the UK vote Conservative.
Many many older people, those who remember the 1960s and 1950s, are unwilling to accept what the main System parties have been doing to this country in the past few decades, no matter that the Britain of 1955, 1965, 1975 had its own problems. Immigration is electorally key, not only but especially the “small boats” invasion (though that is only about 5% of the whole).
Those older voters are all switching to Reform. Anecdotally, I hear it all the time; opinion polls support that view.
The next general election —and earlier local ones, and any Westminster by-elections— will be between Labour (the party of choice still for non-whites, who are now 20% of the UK population) and Reform. I happened to see that someone with whom I was slightly acquainted at school in the early 1970s died a couple of years ago. Not someone I really knew, or knew well, because he, Matthew Perry by name, was in the “B” or “C” stream of my year, whereas I was in the “A” stream.
In fact, I really only became acquainted with Perry —and he was never a friend as such; I never visited his home or went anywhere with him— because, if I remember aright, we were both in the Bridge Club. An amusing fellow, with several stories to tell, often about (horse-) racing or gambling generally. The sort of person one might, in an older person, call “clubbable”.
I noticed from the piece I saw (from the online mag of my old school —incidentally, I should never have recognized him from the appended photo, perhaps taken in an unwell later year) that, after his school years were over, he had done well in pharmaceuticals, but had also flown aid to Africa (Uganda, I think it said).
Quite a few people of the same or similar age to myself, and whom I knew as a small child, older child, or generally in youth, are now no longer on this Earth. In fact, the same goes for several people I knew in later life. A reminder that we have to do what we can, accomplish our mission (of whatever kind) while still here.

In my last decade or so, or “time of troubles”, I have had the unsought opportunity to assess at first-hand the abilities and attitudes of what now passes for a “police force” in England. Unimpressive. As far as doing their proper job is concerned, the police in the UK are almost useless. You see tweets, or on TV, that “at least the migrants are prepared to work“, but first of all that applies to some, not all; secondly, what that naive assessment omits to add is that the kind of work most of them (the ones that are willing to work) want to do (or can do, having no usable qualifications or skills, or English language), is in the “black economy”.
