One of the big questions is as to whether Restore (not mentioned in that poll) and Reform are fishing in the same pool, or whether one (Restore?) or both are, or will be, able to get usual non-voters, those disgusted by the choice previously available, out to vote. In other words, is the “nationalist” vote around 30%, or could it be 35%, 40%, or even 50%?Open question.
Taking that opinion poll as stated though, it translates to a Commons with about 378 Reform MPs (excellent majority), LibDems 60 (very weak official Opposition), Lab 56, Greens 54, SNP 44, and Cons 39 [etc].

The Greens have a few good ideas (i.e. ideas with which I might agree), but are mainly loonie now. At present they are between 12% and 20% in the opinion polls. It is an open question as to whether they can get to 32% (Labour’s polling at GE 2019) or 40% (Labour’s polling at GE 2017), but I should imagine not, in both cases. In fact, I should be surprised were they even to score 25% at any general election up to 2029.
As it stands presently, the Greens are looking at somewhere around 50-60 Commons seats, potentially, so not enough to be anywhere near forming a government but possibly (on a good or bad day) enough to be a very weak official Opposition.
I suppose that, a few years down the line, the LGBTQXYZ etc faction might be sidelined, and then the Greens might become a coalition of Muslims, hardcore socialists, urban pseudo-socialists, hardcore environmentalist/social justice types, and a few others, defined mainly by opposition to anything white national, English, British in any real sense, or traditional.

Well, the betting (see below, taken from a random tweet seen) is heavily on the Green clowns to win at Gorton and Denton, but I have found over the past 10-15 years that betting odds are a poor predictor of by-election results.
My own assessment, admittedly from far away geographically (central-southern coast) is that there is all to play for, bearing in mind that over a quarter of the voters there are saying that they are as yet undecided (or are many of the “undecided” really secret Reform sympathisers? I've spent a couple of days in Gorton and Denton. People raised a lot of issues. Immigration was the primary one. Some raised crime. Others housing. A few fly-tipping. You know what wasn't raised by a single person. The Chagos Islands.

It seems to me that Gorton and Denton has all the problems of the rest of the UK but writ large because it is and always was a deprived area. I was unable to read Rentoul’s article because you have to pay, and I will not pay to read (evident) nonsense. If he means that Britain could somehow defeat Russia using conventional arms, in the Baltic, that would be equally crazed. Britain’s army is only about 70,000-strong now, and mostly rear-echelon, with perhaps as few as 15,000 truly battle-ready.
Even if Rentoul is suggesting that Britain is capable of defeating Russia in collaboration with France, Germany, Poland etc, that still comes up against the little problem of those 6,000+ nuclear weapons…
In any case, does Rentoul think that now-puny Britain, even with allies, could occupy Russia? Mad. Napoleon failed. Hitler failed. Look at their strength of will, and their massive and previously-successful armies, yet still they both failed, comprehensively so.
Rentoul needs to look again at history if he imagines that even an economically-booming Britain (of which there is no sign anyway) could somehow overwhelm Russia. We were all set to hold the premiere of our documentary, Think Before You Post, about the rise of the British speech police, at Rich Mix on Tuesday 25 November. But last night, we received an email saying the venue would be ‘terminating [our] booking contract’. ‘Since confirming your booking, it has come to light that the content and speakers featured do not align with our values and mission here at Rich Mix’, reads the email. ‘Our founding objectives are to support marginalised communities (primarily communities facing racial inequity), promote intercultural understanding, eliminate racial discrimination, and foster equality of opportunity through arts and culture.’
Those of you who have watched the documentary might be wondering what this is getting at. After all, the film is about the people who have been arrested, prosecuted and even held on remand for alleged speechcrime – even though they hadn’t said anything the least bit hateful.
Rich Mix claims that the ‘nature of the event was not fully disclosed to us upon booking’. This is despite the fact the documentary was already available to watch online when we snagged the slot. And all of the speakers who were due to take part in the post-screening Q&A were in the film itself.
I wish I could say I was surprised. The cultural sector is overrun with woke scolds who wouldn’t know what free speech is if it bit them on the backside. The gentleman who emailed us about the cancellation naturally had his pronouns in his email signature, too.
This isn’t even the first time our documentary about censorship has been censored. On X, it has been slapped with age restrictions, despite having no age-inappropriate content in it, thanks to the illiberal Online Safety Act.
I suppose we should be happy to have been proven right. But vindication is cold comfort when it comes at the cost of a great evening of screening the film and discussing it with our contributors, friends and – most importantly – supporters.

I happened to be watching a recorded episode of Celebrity Chase quiz show. I only recognized two of the four “celebrities”, one of which was the unpleasant, and at one time more famous, Janet Street-Porter. She, like so many “celebrities” on such shows, displayed an almost total lack of knowledge. My problem with that is that such people are put before the public on TV and radio etc as if sage, or at least sensible. They are usually neither.
