The Dutch justice system is famously lenient, of course, but this is almost unbelievable.

I am not a “hanger and flogger”, as I have noted before on the blog, but the devil is in the detail. Very lenient sentences and prison regimes, as in the Netherlands and Norway, can work, but when the offenders are low-IQ non-Europeans, or extremely evil, or both, all that happens is that crime becomes a lifestyle choice with few deterrents on the perpetrators.
I think that the Dutch system has changed since the South Moluccan terrorists perpetrated their very unpleasant outrage (now all but forgotten) in 1977.

Incredibly, the 3 surviving terrorists got only 6 to 9 years in prison. An accomplice received a mere one-year sentence. I recall from news reports in 1977 that, at that time, there were no life sentences in the Netherlands; the longest anyone got for anything was 20 years. Usual story now: Reform triumphant, Labour reduced to a niche ethnic minority/public service worker electorate, LibDems as default/dustbin party in southern/rural England, and the once-great Conservative Party washed-up in almost all parts of the UK and UK society.
I have seen tweets from once-Con-leaning tweeters to the effect that the Cons might well be reduced to 15-20 MPs. Existential, surely, for one of the one-time “three main” or “national” parties. Zelensky’s, and the Kiev regime’s, only chance is, and has been for the past three-and-a-half years, to drag NATO and the “West” in general into the war. He is now living on borrowed time, at least politically.
