Very sad that Ireland has become so contaminated. I saw it in the 1970s, and again in the mid-1980s. From what I have seen on TV and newspapers, it has become busier and, in recent decades, more affluent in parts than when I was there but also, now, far less pleasant by reason of the migration invasion.

You can see that process happening in the UK. In fact, it has been a factor for decades, but the huge migration-invasion since, arguably, 1989, is now completely destroying the “democratic rights” of the (real) British people.
Somewhere around 15%-20% of the UK population is now non-white; in England, the proportion is far higher, around 25%, and in the major cities such as London even higher, somewhere around 30% if not more. Some cities in the Midlands and North are already majority non-white.
Even in the UK as a whole, the average non-white presence in primary schools is now somewhere around 40%. As shown, that means that in cities such as London, the primary schools are already about 50% or more non-white.

By 2050, at latest, the UK population will be majority non-white. Yes, some non-whites will not support later waves of immigration; however, most will, and do.

We are not at the beginning of this, debating whether or not to lockdown. We've been doing it for a whole year. We have had stricter measures, for a longer period of time, than almost any other country on Earth. And still, you claim, 130,000 people died from the virus.

Sweden has had no “lockdowns”, yet has done better than the countries, such as the UK, that have had such draconian restrictions. I had an interesting experience a few days ago. I attended a routine eye screening test appointment at a medical centre in a small town in the South Central part of England, near the coast. About 6 miles from my home.
I was about 20 minutes or so early, so sat in my car reading a book and observing. The car park was small, and I parked right by the main entrance of the medical centre. Early afternoon.
Apart from the main entrance, there were two large signs, one red, one green, with arrows pointing left and right, both directing persons with booked vaccination slots to go this or that way. I wondered whether the red was for people with “Covid-19” or other symptoms. Or it may be that the red was for people in a higher-priority tranche of the population. I saw two people enter by those entrances. Both looked entirely normal and well, on the face of it.
For my own appointment, the routine eye test, I entered the building. Deserted. Not even a receptionist. In fact there was one very old person sitting, masked, in an ancient parka, on a chair in the waiting area, where the chairs had been widely-spaced.
After a minute, a nurse or assistant in a dark blue uniform asked me to wait (and requested that I put my disposable facemask above my nose!) (I should add that, in the test itself, the girl doing the test said that it could only conveniently be done by having the mask below the nose). I was called bang on time. Very good.
The eye test itself was conducted in a friendly and professional manner and took but a few minutes. Before eventually leaving the building, I noticed that the waiting area was now deserted again; even the old fellow in the parka had shuffled off. I was interested to note, while sitting in the car for a while (to ensure that my eyesight had returned to normal after the test) that a few more vaccination people (about half a dozen in all, in about 30 mins) entered or exited the building via the side entrance-points. All looked entirely healthy, whichever entrance they used.
I had been to that medical centre once before, a few years ago. It was fairly busy then. Where, now, are all those other patients? Looks as though many many people who were being seen, in pre-“virus” times, are now not being seen, or only seen in small numbers. As Peter Hitchens or someone said last year, to some extent the National Health Service has become a National Covid Service.
As to the routine screening I myself attended, and though I doubt whether it was really necessary in my case, I was grateful that, under the NHS system, such precautionary measures are available for free. In the USA and some other countries (most, in fact), many miss out, and some then suffer and/or die because they develop conditions which, had they been detected at an earlier stage, might well have been treatable.
The NHS needs a real overhaul, but the principle is good.

Not Britain as it ever was, but a sort of cartoon British history based on “Teach Yourself Marxism” meets “Wokeness”: undifferentiated “feudalism” from ancient times, leading up to some time around the English Civil War, and focussing on Levellers etc. Then the era of the Luddites and later Chartists. The Tolpuddle Martyrs. The founding of the trade unions, and the Labour Party.
Corbyn’s cartoon history of the UK would then take in the 1926 General Strike, the Jarrow March, the “Battle of Cable Street”, a few foreign aspects such as the Front Populaire, and Trotskyism, a risibly black-and-white version of the Second World War, then the NHS, social housing, new towns; the good ship Windrush and Commonwealth immigration (thought of by Corbyn as something good!). Finally, Thatcherism, the Miners’ Strike, Blairism and the betrayal of socialist principle, followed by 2010-2019 “Tory Austerity”.
Not that that view of British and European history is exactly or wholly “wrong”, in that those events were all aspects of it. The problem is that such a tableau contains no nuance and only a minute fraction of the real events and trends.
As for Corbyn’s vision of Britain’s future, it would be a compendium consisting of happy smiling workers of various races advancing to a radiant multikulti future, a Britain where trade unions worked with “socialist” “anti-racist” Labour politicians to eliminate “racism”, “sexism” and any form of inequality, in a Britain where borders were open to all, social services excellent and open freely to anyone just off the boat, where there was to be no conflict, magic money funding high pay and benefits, as well as quality public housing and transport (despite mass immigration), a Britain with no dissent except in how to move forward the socialist agenda, and no “fascism” or —God forbid!— “neo-Nazi” tendency.
The above Corbynist agenda and vision, of course, had as little reality as a Superman cartoon. In a way, it was the Jewish element that was the stumbling-block. Not that Corbyn was particularly “anti-Semitic” from my point of view (and after all, I ought to know!). It was more that Jews, with their “tribal” loyalty and clannishness, their materialism, their pushiness, their interest in financial advancement etc, not to mention their pragmatism, got in the way of that idealized and completely unworkable vision of an ideal post-Marxist “socialist” Britain and world.
Where would the Jews have fitted into that “Corbynist” vision? Nowhere. Corbyn knew it. His advisers, such as Seumas Milne, knew it. The Jews themselves knew it. Thus was set the stage for the conflict between the Jews and Jewish lobby against Corbyn and the Labour Party.

Labour stopped being “socialist”, even in theory, sometime around 1990-ish. Clause 4 was deleted, nationalization scrapped. Under Blair and Brown, it is hard to see Labour even as having been social-democratic.
The expenses scandal that rocked the end of the 1997-2010 Labour period was driven not only by criminal greed (on the part of both Labour and Conservative MPs) but by the wish on the part of Labour MPs (too) to live a rather affluent “bourgeois” life. Not only by cheating and freeloading on expenses, but by getting as much outside “work” as possible.
Thus we saw, for example, Tom Watson raking in a regular £500 per month expenses (extra, on top of salary and general expenses) for food alone; we saw outright fraud; we saw Patricia Hewitt and others selling influence for hard cash. And so on…
Labour MPs and officials married affluent people, often those with profitable businesses. Corbyn Labour as well as “centrist” Labour:

Having said that, the only way, at present, that Labour could form a government, would be with SNP help. If Scotland chooses Independence (however fake), that removes 50-60 Commons votes from any coalition or alliance.

I caught the last 5-10 mins of Radio 4 Today Programme. Some fellow whose voice betrayed his smug certainty of knowing “the truth”…That person managed to get away with several meaningless statements such as “populism is Right Wing” (“rightwing” stopped being a useful descriptor decades if not centuries ago), finishing up with the assertion that “populists” were trying to “latch on to anti-lockdown protests” but that would not help the “populists” because it put them in the same place as “the nutters who think that the virus is caused by 5G“.
Well, I don’t think that many imagine that “the virus” is or was caused by 5G, though there seems to be at least some evidence that 5G has deleterious health effects. After all, the public were told for decades that high-tension power lines caused no health problems. Now?

Moving back to “populism”, I think that it is true that mere populism is usually short-lived, built as it is on the shifting sands of public opinion. Without ideological structure, a populist protest movement is a jellybag and cannot create anything lasting. As I have said before, in the UK it has always been the norm or “done thing” that persons with a medical degree are called “doctor”. In fact, many medics have no “doctorate”, as such; it is a courtesy title in many cases.
Others who, in the UK, have always been able to use the title “Dr.” without eyebrows being raised, have been priests and others in holy orders, tenured academics and schoolmasters, and scientists.
In other countries, notably Germany, it has always been acceptable for anyone, pretty much, who has a doctorate in anything, to use the title. In a sense, I am not completely against that idea. When I was on Twitter (2010-2018, though I only started to tweet prolifically from 2011 or 2012), I had only one account, and that account was under my own name (“@ianrmillard“).
I can only suppose that Kamm wanted to present himself as the “important” person who therefore has “trolls” attacking him. I rather see it the other way round: I cannot recall ever sending any tweet or other message to Kamm, but I seem to recall him tweeting once or twice about me…It’s several years ago now, but I am sure that Kamm was either mistaken or lying. All those five tweets were general comments about society; none was addressed to any person directly, and I think that only two persons were mentioned by name. I was unaware at the time that snivelling Gove was or is also a cocaine abuser.

If Royal Navy vessels defend British fishermen and the fish in those waters from French fishermen, and if then the French Navy moves to defend the French fishing fleet, could there be undeclared war (akin to the 1970s Cod War off Iceland) in the Channel? As far as I know, that would be the first UK-France naval “engagement” in the Channel since the time of Napoleon.
There is another point: a high proportion (it may be 40%, it may be 60%) of fish taken in UK waters is then exported at once to EU states, mostly France and Spain. If France and Spain ban imports of British fish, or (via the EU) impose ruinously high tariffs, that will kill much of what is left of the UK fishing industry as surely as if the foreign fishermen simply took all the fish…
The only possible good thing is that fish in the UK will be cheaper, so at least the British consumer will benefit to that extent.

I should say, the degree of domestic comfort now taken for granted by UK residents of all conditions. Central heating is major, as is hot water on tap without problems (see old British films for an idea of what many had to endure before, not even 1945, but c.1970).

Some cited “public housing” (though of course that pre-dated 1945), “good and reliable television” (“reliable”, yes, if that means the picture appears when you switch on; “good”, doubtful…), and of course TV never really got going until the early 1950s though it had existed (in both Germany and the UK) since the 1930s, but with only a few hundred viewers initially.

So I have “zero life“? Well, it is true that my life is far less affluent —and far more circumscribed in consequence— than it was 15, 20, or more years ago, but Applebaum might reflect on how saying unpleasant things can boomerang back: he, once (long ago) an aspiring film critic, is now never, or hardly ever, published anywhere, is basically a “house husband”, and moreover has recently been tweeting about how he has been diagnosed as having both cancer and “Coronavirus”, which has affected his lungs etc.
As for “Dr. Dim” (Tim G. Stevens), an NHS psychiatrist with a depressive condition, and based in Essex, his tweet (above) scarcely covers his apparent obsession, stretching over several years now, with me. Actually, “Dr. Dim” tweeted not long ago to another mentally-disordered Zionist (a Jewish woman from North London) that he quite often looks at my blog (the said Jewess replied that she looks at it daily, no doubt to see whether she might be able to make —another— malicious complaint against me to the police). In other words, Dr. Dim’s assertion that he hardly knows of me, and so on, is rather “economical with the truth”…

I have noticed that quite a few people on Twitter, gratuitously nasty about me in the past decade, are now either dead or have serious and chronic medical conditions. Looks like someone “up there” is on my side. As the ancient Chinese proverb has it, “the stars in their courses fight on the side of the just“. May God mote it be!
In Hampshire, each little police area seems to run its own Twitter account. Most are unexceptionable, informing the public about their work, and about arrests made etc, appealing for information, and so on. Quite useful for the public. A few, however, have fallen into socio-political bias. For example, the “Waterside Cops” Twitter account (covering the area of the Solent shore South West of Southampton), seemed to be, until recently, full of propaganda about “hate speech”, and also about how good, supposedly, are the “Roma”, “traveller” etc “communities”. Ironic, in view of the “situation” with those “communities”…
Well, it seems that the Chief Constable (or whoever) has taken the matter in hand, with the result that all the local police Twitter accounts in Hampshire, all the ones of which I am aware anyway, will be closed on 4 January 2021. It may be that they are throwing out the baby with the bathwater, in that most of those accounts, most of the time, were all right. Still, there it is.
The above tweet may be unintentionally misleading. The hearing on 17 December 2020 is the trial of Alison Chabloz on another three charges arising from a complaint made in 2019 by Stephen Silverman of the “CAA”. It is not directly connected with Alison’s appeal in respect of earlier trials or matters (which are now concluded).
