He also ordered that a copy of his remarks should be appended to all future “CAA” private prosecutions for perusal of the trial judge and any preliminary judges.
The “CAA” goblins are now seeking a High Court judicial review of that determination (presumably both the material case determination and the order to append transcript copies of the judgment to future “CAA” private prosecutions).
In the Nick Griffin case, there will be heard (I think in May) an application by the defendant to stop the prosecution from proceeding. Good luck to him and, as the Germans might say, Gott strafe die Kobolde! (“God punish the goblins!“).

I am not a professional psychologist or psychiatrist, but I wonder what such a scientific or medical specialist would make of a patient who persistently minimizes the suffering, physical pain, or trauma of others, particularly that caused directly by the said patient, while magnifying or even inventing any trauma, inconvenience or irritation —however slight— of his or her own?
On the large scale, that is what we often see in the reactions of the Jews and Israel. The quantum of deaths (many of which are plain murder) and injury caused to the civilians of Gaza, numbered in the hundreds of thousands, and involving the death or mutilation of children and even babies, and over 2-3 years, daily, is answered by the screech “and what about the several hundred Jews killed on one day in 2023 by Hamas operatives?” [and also by Israeli free-fire protocols].
The starvation of many people in Gaza, and the death by starvation of some, is answered by Jews who either deny that there ever was starvation, or who say that “people only went hungry because Hamas militiamen took all the food generously allowed in by the Israeli Jews“, or that —in various ways— it is or was the fault of the starving children themselves, and/or of their families.

That said, the by-election result is most significant for the fact that Labour was trashed and trodden down. I was just reminded that the distance from Tel Aviv to the border of Gaza is a mere 47 miles, almost exactly the distance from my one-time (2002-2008) barristers’ chambers in Exeter to my (leased only, sadly) country house on the Cornish side of the Tamar. Betar failed to repair the Struma’s diesel engine and signalled distress. The Romanian navy returned and Betar demanded the Romanians fix their engine for free; the Romanians refused and requested to be paid for their time and the parts. Betar refused to pay the Romanians so the passengers paid the Romanians with their wedding rings instead; the Romanians then fixed the Stuma’s engine.
Two days later the Struma’s engine promptly failed again and she was towed into Istanbul harbour by the Turkish navy on 15th December 1941.
It was then revealed that Betar hadn’t arranged any visas to Palestine at all for the passengers or the Betar youth. The British refused them permission to migrate to Palestine as illegal immigrants (per the British White Paper of 1939 on this) and Turkey refused to grand them entry as illegal immigrants (so as to not encourage more such immigration and burden their tax payers and ports).
Weeks of negotiation followed between the British and Turks; the jews then ran out of food and refused to let Turkish police board the Struma. The result was the British honoured expired visas for Palestine held by a couple of the passengers plus granted visas to any jew who was 11-16 years old. The Turkish government spent weeks trying to repair the Struma’s engine but failed. Strange co-incidence. I just happened today upon an old email (from well over 20 years ago), sent to me by a girl law student from Plymouth, and thanking me for talking with her and answering questions she had had. She wrote that her talk with me had decided her to continue with her degree course and to go into the practice of law.
I had forgotten about meeting that girl (at an evening reception put on by a university law faculty at a yacht club in Plymouth, and to which a number of barristers, solicitors, and judges had been invited).
I just looked up the individual’s name, to see whether she was mentioned as either solicitor or barrister (I should add that her name is rather unusual). Turns out that, after starting out at the Bar, she had switched to the solicitors’ branch, and is now a partner in a fairly large UK/international law firm, specializing in corporate/commercial work.

I was just watching one of the now-ubiquitous TV “true murder” documentaries, it being called Britain’s Countryside Killers. The facts of the case were not unusual, but I was struck by the fact that one of the interviewees, an Irishman described as “Robert Giles, criminologist and author“, in talking about the case, referred to the suspect as having “been read his Miranda rights” and then, later, not having been “read his rights” (in relation to a second murder).
Now this TV show was covering a murder that took place in England. All the action took place in England. Miranda rights, as such, are a purely American matter. In England, yes, suspects are told something similar, but that is properly referred to as the suspect having been “cautioned”.
At first, I thought that it was just this Giles person not knowing his **** from his elbow, but then I saw that the film narrative (and subtitling) itself talked about the suspect having been “read his rights” and then (later) not given a Miranda warning.
