Fundamental that’s being missed on the defence debate. Even if Starmer wanted to, there is no way Labour MPs are going to sign off major cuts in schools, hospitals and welfare to fund more tanks, bombs and drones. It simply isn’t going to happen.
“…and a good job too!“, to quote from Trial by Jury…
Why should British people sink even deeper into the mire merely to challenge Russia, a country which poses no threat to us at all, except that “NATO” (NWO/ZOG) has been goading it for 35 years (and Russia has felt compelled to respond).
Dan Hodges actually thinks that the UK should or somehow “has to” go to war with Russia, a war which would leave Britain a charred, irradiated island of dead souls.
Translates to a Commons with about 285 Reform UK MPs (41 short of an overall majority), Cons 98 (official Opposition in the absence of a coalition), Greens 88, LibDems 68, SNP 45, Lab 38 [etc].
As in all recent polling, Starmer would, on those figures, lose his seat.
As often previously blogged, underwhelming Reform is still in pole position but the voters are unenthusiastic, voting against Lab and Con rather than for Reform as such. I think the same or similar is true of the Greens, mutatis mutandis.
The longer this goes on, the less will voters be willing to stay within the traditional LibLabCon matrix, but will be open to radical new parties and policies.

My concern is wider. An advanced European society can only be created on the basis of a white European population. The backward elements now forming a large part of the UK population are incapable of even living in (let alone contributing to or improving) our present society.

Well, only 4/10 this week, but enough to beat political journalist John Rentoul (again). He only scored 1/10.
I knew the answers to questions 3, 4, 5, and 6.
General knowledge is not everything, but it is disturbing to see John Rentoul’s consistently low scores as he continues to opine on war and peace, geopolitics, grand strategy etc; disturbing, too, that many seem to take him seriously. A scribbler/talking head, and always parroting the NWO/ZOG line.

John Rentoul is government propaganda.
And no, Russia could wipe Britain out of existence.
The very idea that Britain could “win” a war against Russia is just laughable, or would be, were it not the case that such a war would result in this country being turned into a smoking, irradiated ruin.
Russia has over 6,000 nuclear weapons. Britain has 200-300.
Yes, Britain, acting alone, could probably land 50-100 nuclear missiles on major Russian cities and military bases. Russia, however, in essence, would survive. Could Britain survive if all major cities and towns were to be destroyed? (Britain not being big enough to locate ports and air bases away from major population centres).
Reform has overtaken Labour to have the biggest party membership in Britain, and that matters. My weekend article for @Independenthttps://t.co/FXlJ9hzvwx
Of course, back in 1972, the British people had more self-confidence. Britain had not, not to the extent of today, been swamped by migrant-invaders, and could still justifiably think of itself as a world power, albeit not a superpower.
John Rentoul's statement claims Britain could win a war against Russia, emphasizing UK's economic edge (GDP ~$4T vs Russia's $2.5T) for long-term deterrence. However, military analyses from Global Firepower, IISS, and BBC show Russia vastly superior in manpower (1.3M vs 108K),…
[“John Rentoul’s statement claims Britain could win a war against Russia, emphasizing UK’s economic edge (GDP ~$4T vs Russia’s $2.5T) for long-term deterrence. However, military analyses from Global Firepower, IISS, and BBC show Russia vastly superior in manpower (1.3M vs 108K), aircraft, tanks, and nukes. A solo UK win is implausible. Delusion rating: 8/10.”]
I was unable to read Rentoul’s article because you have to pay, and I will not pay to read (evident) nonsense. If he means that Britain could somehow defeat Russia using conventional arms, in the Baltic, that would be equally crazed. Britain’s army is only about 70,000-strong now, and mostly rear-echelon, with perhaps as few as 15,000 truly battle-ready.
Even if Rentoul is suggesting that Britain is capable of defeating Russia in collaboration with France, Germany, Poland etc, that still comes up against the little problem of those 6,000+ nuclear weapons…
In any case, does Rentoul think that now-puny Britain, even with allies, could occupy Russia? Mad. Napoleon failed. Hitler failed. Look at their strength of will, and their massive and previously-successful armies, yet still they both failed, comprehensively so.
Rentoul needs to look again at history if he imagines that even an economically-booming Britain (of which there is no sign anyway) could somehow overwhelm Russia. History teaches, time and again, that economically prosperous and developed peoples are often defeated by relatively poor but militarily-strong peoples.
Of course, Starmer-stein has no chance of creating a wealthy, high-defence-spending UK anyway. The UK is importing a million blacks and browns each year; most are, at best, parasites, and many are actively criminal and/or hostile to us. That alone…
Apart from that, only deluded people would even want to fight for Britain as it now is. Many of the more gung-ho, if one reads newspaper comment columns, seem to be people aged 50+ or 60+ who, most of them, have never even served in a mobile laundry unit, let alone at the cutting edge or spearhead.
Finally, what makes Rentoul (and similar System drones) think that it is even necessary to confront, let alone fight with, Russia? Russia has no wish to to take on the burden of ruling Western Europe (which should be our only serious concern). Russia no longer has Marxist-Leninist ideology, or any wish for the world to go socialist/communist. Russia itself has moved from that over the past 30-40 years.
Britain should sort itself out, not try to create an unnecessary war with Russia, particularly around the corrupt, brutal Jew-Zionist dictatorship of Zelensky and his cronies in Kiev.
I notice the subtle shift in phrasing there. “Small-boat migrants” has become normalised to disarm the much more blatant, truthful and inflammatory “illegal migrant”, or better yet “invader”, from public discourse.
I think that I can claim that this blog (actually, before the blog, my Twitter/X account, which was closed down in 2018 at the instigation of a pack of Jew-Zionists) was the first to use the terms “migration invasion” and “migrant invaders“.
…and who is invading France? Not Russia!…

Poland, of course, has itself changed out of all recognition since I made several visits there in the late 1980s. Completely different.
Incidentally, in the past 20 years, and in real terms, the typical pay of a British employee has remained static; in the same period, the average or typical take-home pay of Polish people in Poland, in real terms, has quadrupled.

While I am scarcely “pro-farmer” as such, it is clear that the main reason Starmer-stein and Rachel Reeves are going after the farmers is because farming in this country is still, almost exclusively, something pursued by white, i.e. English/British people. One of the few areas of life left. Even the Bar, and the Army and Navy, are increasingly non-white.
Starmer-Labour have a fanatical desire to destroy all areas of real Englishness/Britishness left.

I was just looking yesterday, as I drove through, at the shopping area in the town very close to where I live. An affluent small town in coastal Southern England.
The big chains are mostly still there (Boots, Costa Coffee, Greggs, Holland & Barrett, M&S food hall, Waitrose etc), but the small independent shops have, many of them, closed up and disappeared. Why? Well, as I predicted at the time would happen, the sinister yet farcically-stupid “Covid” “rules”, “laws”, restrictions etc, so unnecessary (and utterly ridiculous), killed off those small businesses (despite furlough payments etc), and the knock-on effects of a poorer population also drove those shops to the wall over the past few years.
Examples? Well, the small barber-shop I once used, run by an old retired merchant seaman and his wife, which also employed a few local ladies, is no more. The old man died (nothing to do with the scamdemic/panicdemic, by the way), and his wife decided that she preferred to shut up shop. However, that was 2-3 years ago. The shop remains empty, as are those on either side (formerly a computer and office supplies place, and a junk shop).
A couple of new barber-shops have opened in the nearby High Street, true, but those are staffed by non-Brits (either Turkish or Kurdish).
I noticed, yesterday, that several small cafes are now closed, as is what had been a Cornish pasty shop. Some independent clothes shops too.
I went to the local Waitrose for the first time in months, mainly because I had £50 in gift tokens, and found that it has further declined since last summer. Not as many customers as there used to be at a similar time of day. Still, I bought 6 or 7 jars of red caviar, so that must have helped them.
More seriously, it is clear that people in the UK have been made much poorer not only because of the “Covid” scamdemic/panicdemic and its knock-on effects, but also because pay —not only recently but over the past few decades— has not kept pace with inflation, and particularly inflation in that most basic of needs— shelter, or housing.
Now “Rachel from Accounts” Reeves is sucking money out of the economy, and particularly out of the retail sector. The result will be further economic decline.
A measure of Basic Income must be the way forward.

I truly hate Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves, Angela Rayner, David Lammy, Liz Kendal.
They are the scum of the earth and traitors to the British people.

I disappeared almost as soon as the trial for the Southport Massacre ended. Public opinion and concern has been split as to why I went missing; between those who thought I had a breakdown after covering the massacre, and those who thought I had caved to government pressure to stop reporting upon the cover-up. Neither of these, thanks to the strength of public feeling and the support of my colleagues, is true. What really happened? Three days after the trial ended, my X/Twitter account was hacked. My profile remained intact; live but inactive. Except for one thing…My viral timeline of the Southport massacre had been unpinned and DELETED. This timeline had been collated on the day of Axel Rudakubana’s sentencing, and detailed exactly what had taken place on that dreadful summer’s day in Southport. It exposed how the UK Government had failed time and time again to prevent this monster from moving about with freedom, and what they and other authorities had done to cover-up their incompetence, and the devastating consequences of their political agenda. This timeline had been see by 50 million people within 3 days – and was recognised as one of the most authoritative records of the Southport massacre. But, just as my account was gaining momentum, and I had the platform to explore the depth of the corruption in this case – including the anti-white sentiment of Rudakubana being glossed over by the Establishment and mainstream media – this detailed timeline of evidence was deleted, and I was locked out the account until this morning. (More on this to follow.) I do not know who did this to me, or what caused X to withhold my account from me for almost two months. 11 days now. You’d think that where there is evidence that lawyers might present a risk to the administration of justice, their regulators might think:
Those tweets from James Wilson, successful claimant in the libel case Wilson v. Mendelsohn, Newbon (deceased), and Cantor, refer to the dishonest and negligent conduct of some (and it seems all, from what Wilson is saying) of the Jewish lawyers instructed by the unsuccessful defendants in the matter (one of whom, a vicious social media troll and Zionist, committed suicide before the case finished).
This must be the death of the Labour Party as anything even notionally “socialist” or even “social-democratic”. It goes way beyond anything done by Blair and Brown, or even Cameron-Levita’s “Conservative” regime during 2010-2015.
Why would anyone, especially anyone English/British, vote Labour-label now?
The by-election at Runcorn and Helsby now takes on an importance few would have expected. It is or was the 16th-“safest” Labour seat. Now, Reform has a good chance of winning it, according to opinion polls, bookmakers etc. I would go further: Reform has at least a pretty good chance of smashing the by-election, and thus humiliating both Lab and Con.
At the 2024 General Election, Labour got over 50% of the vote. We are now in a different political world. Reform came second last year, ahead of the Conservative Party.
The by-election is between Reform and fake Labour. The Cons have no chance, and their former voters, if they want to bin Labour, should vote Reform, even if only tactically. That is, surely, obvious.
I blogged about the by-election in more detail yesterday:
“The European Union is pushing for every household in the 27-nation bloc to have a three-day survival kit ready in case of war or natural disasters.

European leaders have said the invasion of Ukraine could soon break out into a ‘global’ war.”

So what do the unfortunate people of the EU states and UK do once the 72 hours have passed, and the 3-days’ supplies have run out? Kill themselves? Kill the System politicians? (Hey, now… wait a minute…).

Ha ha! Many of them actually think like that. The 2,000-3,000 years (or more) of European history and culture are, for most of them, a closed book; they know almost literally nothing about it, and so about us.

…and that is what it would be like in France under Marine le Pen, in Germany under the AfD, and in the UK under Farage or Reform UK. Controlled opposition. The touchstone is what any political group says about Israel, the Jew-Zionist lobby, and generally the “JQ”. If they are ideologically unsound on that, you can chuck them in the bin.
It is, apparently, “antisemitic” for non-Jews to play Jewish roles such as Robert Oppenheimer (the nuclear physicist) in a recent TV series, but Jews play white European roles all the time. Apparently, that’s OK (and, no doubt, to prevent that or even complain about it would be —you guessed it— “antisemitic“).
Blacks too, can play any European role (however absurdly), but I have yet to see a European actor playing Nelson Mandela or Muhammad Ali… That will never happen; if it did, our cities would burn to the ground (be burned to the ground).
As noted many times on this blog, the propaganda is not aimed at the adult audience, primarily; the main target is the under-18 demographic, especially children, and the aim is to normalize the existence, and prominence, of non-whites in every part of our society, even when (as in almost any European historical setting) there were no blacks at all. Also, to normalize mixed-race breeding.

It’s almost funny…just as the Soviet Union and the whole “East bloc” (and almost all Western observers) pretended, during the 1980s, that its system, way of life etc would go on pretty much forever (only to find that all that collapsed almost, not quite, overnight in various socialist states in 1989, 1990, 1991), the UK ruling groups are themselves pretty much stuck in a bubble of belief not unalike that Soviet/socialist mindset.
I saw the “East bloc” a few times in the late 1980s, and had a lot of contact with Soviet and ex-Soviet people all through that decade. I get a similar feeling looking at our UK society. The facade is still there, but it is held together with string and glue…
Look at this latest “conscript the British public to fight Russia” nonsense. To some extent, it may be an attempt to prevent the wipe-out of the Conservative Party at GE 2024, but it goes much wider than that. Similar nonsense has come out of Washington, Brussels, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Finland in the past 2 weeks.
In the UK, there seem to be Army top brass, as well as many members of the public, who believe that not only should the UK “fight Russia” but that “we” can (also, note the illusion that the UK is still a “nation”…). Also, that the projected (promoted?) Third World War (against Russia) will be somewhat like a conflation of WW1 and WW2. The usual mistake— “fighting the last war”.
I have as yet seen no colourful graphics from the Daily Mail, Express etc describing vividly what the blasted and irradiated remnant of the UK might be like after a nuclear war…

Always interesting to see the areas where such events took place. En route back across Europe by car (Turkey to UK) in the summer 2001, my wife and I stumbled upon a small family-run hotel in the Ardennes.
On its own, with no houses nearby, and on a minor road. All around, the country was heavily-wooded, and the hotel (a large 19thC house with a pleasant garden) had had a small restaurant extension added circa 1960 (I think), looking like —and furnished in— the style of some of the scenes in the film North by Northwest.
As we dined, initially alone in the restaurant (later, one other couple appeared, but I think that we were the only other hotel guests), we were told by the waitress (a young woman, one of the owning family) that during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944, that house had been the headquarters (or one such) for the American commander, Patton, and that we were occupying the room that Patton himself had used as a bedroom during part of those times (either during or after the actual battle; the exact details were not specified).
🚨 EXC: Rishi Sunak’s own pollster Will Dry has resigned as a SpAd at No10 amid rows over direction of government

The norm in the past has been for the opinion polls to narrow as a general election approaches. This time, with only 10 months to go, and possibly only 8 months, the polls are widening. Why?
For me it is clear that the widening is not because the voters love fake (and Zionist-ruled) “Labour”, and/or wishy-washy bureaucrat-dictator Starmer, but because they —including many former Con voters— actually now hate —and I do mean hate— this incompetent and hopeless “Conservative” government, and want to stamp on it until it dies. They want to kill off (politically) as many Con Party MPs as possible.
No point in going again through all the reasons, but part of, or added to, that long list would obviously be the endless pseudo-“tough” talk on immigration combined with no action whatsoever. Also, now, the craven “support” given to the evil Israeli regime and the UK Jewish lobby; also now the billions (more) being wasted on “Ukraine” (the Kiev regime), together with the suggestion that the UK should be placed on a war footing (notionally against Russia), with whatever civil rights still existing removed (eg the fast-disappearing free speech rights). Even the reintroduction of conscription or “National Service”. Madness.

Hard to believe that anyone ever gave the likes of “Boris” Johnson, Liz Truss, or Theresa May any credibility; same for the little Indian money-juggler, Sunak. There it is, though. Winston Churchill said that belief in “democracy” only lasts as long as a 5-minute conversation with the average voter.
Who are they trying to fool? As soon as he is kicked out, the little Indian money-juggler will be off, with his ultra-wealthy Indian heiress wife, to somewhere like Palo Alto or Bel-Air. Yes, he was born here, went to Winchester and then Oxford, but he has about as much in common with this country as Ali Bongo (the African one).

Partly-true, but the State could control pay if that were required (which I think it now is): set limits for pay, with exceptions for genuine inventor-entrepreneurs such as Dyson. People who are just executives could be restricted to somewhere around £500,000 a year (gross), or even as “little” as £200,000 (net). The same goes for the likes of TV presenters, footballers etc.
The vast majority of UK workers and others in this country (eg pensioners, disabled non-workers, unemployed etc) receive net pay and/or benefits of £25,000 p.a. or below. Even my own relatively modest income when a barrister (1991-2008), though sometimes (rarely, though, and expressed in the money of 2024) above £100,000 p.a., was often far far less (sometimes almost zero).
I do not think that many people will be sorry if the high-paid were to be restricted to a net income of, say, £200,000 p.a.

Sometimes loss, whether voluntary or involuntary, cannot be avoided, and is a matter of Fate. Sometimes you have to stand before the blows of Fate, then move on, hardened in your resolve.
Strategically, what really challenges the Conservative Party is not that Israel-puppets Starmer, Rachel Reeves, Yvette Cooper etc might form an “elected dictatorship” for 4-5 years starting in 2024, but the fact that, at present, only 10% of those under 50 intend to vote Con. As for those under 30, I do not have the figure to hand, but it is something like 4%.
At the same time, very few of the ethnic minority voters, even Indians, are intending to vote Con; also the ethnic minorities, at present about 20% of the voting public, may soon be 25% or even 30%. A large minority of those under 18 in the UK are already non-white.
That means that, even in the next decade, unless something very big and unexpected happens, the Con Party vote will not even be at 20% (where it now is) but more like 10% or so. LibDem level. UKIP (2015) level. Reform UK level. That is when the Con Party will probably fade out, except for a few outposts here and there. Around 2030.

A Dutchman, of all things, “warning” that “we” (the populations of NATO member states) are “preparing for a war with Russia“.
It strikes me as odd, a Dutchman fomenting war in this way. After all, the Netherlands was last a major power in the 18thC, 250-300 years ago.
The Netherlands was neutral in the First World War, neutral for the first 8 months of the Second World War, and then was invaded in May of 1940, an operation which took the forces of the German Reich precisely 4 days, on the fourth day of which invasion the Dutch forces formally surrendered.
Now some jumped-up Dutch mariner [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Bauer] seems to be cheerleading for a war with Russia, which would devastate our continent and much of the rest of the world. Madness. The bastard even admits that our way of life would change out of all recognition, and that civilians would have to be conscripted!
There seems to be a sinister agenda here, promoting a false narrative according to which Russia wants to invade Central and Eastern Europe. It’s rubbish. Indeed, the opposite is the case.
The old Soviet Union gradually lost its expansionist ideology in the 1980s, and the post-Soviet Russia has no expansionist ideology akin to Leninism.
Russia is nationalist in a defensive way, and even the Ukraine war can be seen as defensive, as being within the old imperial boundaries that existed long before the revolutionary upheavals of 1917.
Let us be clear. If there is a NATO-Russia war, among the first countries to be entirely wiped out by nuclear attack would be the UK (because of the American and other bases here) and the smaller states of NATO in Europe. The Netherlands would have no chance.
The UK should join with Russia, but the secretive Zionist and Masonic cabals that rule this country from behind the scenes are completely against any such idea. They stand ready to sacrifice the people of the UK to their evil NWO/ZOG plans.
The most important thing for the future of the world is that a core of people of white European humanity survive and are able to repopulate the world after any such disaster; indeed not only to repopulate the world but also to create the racial-cultural basis for a future superculture.

Boris-idiot has latched onto Ukraine as a kind of sub-Falklands Factor, to distract from his hopeless handling of pretty much everything in domestic British politics. The cunning Jew, Zelensky, is playing “Boris” for all he is worth. £500M in military aid, missiles, tanks (all gratis), “refugee” hospitality etc etc.
If Britain (either directly or in effect, via Poland) gives tanks to the Kiev regime, the UK is pretty close to being in a war with Russia which, though at present still a cold war, might well result in a hot war before very long.
Russia, if willing to use all its power, cannot “lose” in Ukraine. For example, were it to use tactical and/or battlefield nuclear weapons. Thus it can be seen that for the UK and USA to funnel arms to the Kiev regime is merely to prolong and intensify the agony of the Ukrainian civilians and their companion animals (which latter is not a “small” matter, as some believe; some apparently small matters are, spiritually, of great importance).

🇫🇷 French election: Macron tipped for win after campaign shows up France’s cultural divisions https://t.co/u6y1AXS0fY
— The Times and The Sunday Times (@thetimes) April 22, 2022
If Macron wins that semi-rigged election in France, it will be a situation of (to paraphrase the famous Sun headline of 1992), “it was the w*gs wot won it!“…
No less than 17% of the officially-noted population of France are non-white: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France#Ethnic_groups. Few of those will vote for Marine le Pen. The votes of the supposedly socialist Melenchon (22% in the first round, third-placed; knocked out) are mostly those of non-French (i.e. non-white) voters. Melenchon himself is only French by (partial) upbringing— his parents are Spanish and Spanish/Sicilian, and he lived in Morocco until aged 11.
Most of the Melenchon voters will either vote Macron (to stop Marine le Pen), or will abstain, in this second round. Thus the French people will —probably— be cheated.
Births to ethnic non-French are booming; births to French people declining. This election may be the last chance the French people have to save themselves by ordinary, “lawful” methods, and I fear that, like the Brits, Germans, and others, they will fluff it.
Not that I think hugely highly of Marine le Pen, who even has Jews advising her (and undermining her), but she at least seems to value the heritage of France and of Europe, as compared to Zionist puppet Macron.
Europe may have to be destroyed and remade.

One of the most telling indications that Britain has been sliding into a kind of fake “communitarian” fake “caring sharing” police state is that, during 2020 and 2021, and up to the present, Lord Sumption, a former “Law Lord” (Supreme Court justice), has been presented by the msm, System politicians, and of course the know-nothing pro-facemask, pro-lockdown Twitter mob, as a kind of lunatic or eccentric, to be ignored, sidelined, or just laughed at.
I have blogged fairly extensively on Ukraine in previous blogs over the past week. There are number of reasons why Russian forces may well invade at least the Eastern Ukraine area (i.e. East of the Dnieper river), as well as the Kiev area. There are few if any compelling reasons not to.
The Ukraine has been a shambolic corrupt mess for 30 years, and its military preparations look like something out of the First World War, with a bit of WW2 Dad’s Army thrown in. In fact, that Daily Mail account refers to British-sent weapons arriving in Lvov, in the deepest part of Western Ukraine, the least likely area to be occupied by Russian forces.
[Kiev. Civilians “training” with cut-out wooden “weapons”—suicidal]
[Russian self-propelled howitzers, training recently in the Urals— part of what is coming down the road at the Kiev-government forces]
As I have blogged in recent days, if there are sudden acts of sabotage in Kiev or elsewhere in the region (probably executed by Spetsnaz contingents), the countdown will have begun, and the “war” will have begun, in effect, major Russian armoured and other formations following within a few days. I imagine that the initial phase will be short, perhaps less than a week. Putin holds all the cards of importance.
Talking of the corruption of the past 30 years in Ukraine, I am reminded of an egregious carpetbagger whom I encountered in the late 1990s.
A lawyer originating in Virginia, the said carpetbagger —I shall call him “Z.”, not so much to protect the guilty but so as to make a libel suit even less likely— had an office in the City of London and one in Kiev. He wanted me to come to work with him, and probably relocate to Kiev before too long. I had recently returned to London from a year in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and was interested. I had never been to Kiev, but knew that it was considered, in Soviet days, as the greenest (the most “treed”) city in the Soviet Union, and in other respects quite pleasant.
I found Z.’s London office utterly chaotic. Just him, a secretary, and a rather pretty receptionist whom I had encountered somewhere previously, though I could not recall where exactly. She remembered me too.
Z.’s own office looked like a bomb had hit it. Anyway, I agreed to do some work for a few days on a trial basis, but soon found that Z. was a very strange individual, despite stellar paper qualifications. He once again proved the “rule” that, if someone has half a dozen degrees from various countries, he is either a brilliant near-genius, or a charlatan. Z. was no near-genius, in my opinion anyway.
It soon proved impossible to work with a near-lunatic of that sort. I left after 2-3 days, and needed to shake Z.’s cage a little to get him to pay up even a modest amount in recompense.
I did see Z. once more, about a year or two later, travelling on the Central Line. I was standing, he was seated. He pretended not to have seen me, and kept his eyes averted. Perhaps he was afraid of being assaulted (I confess, the thought did cross my mind!).
As it was, I exited at Chancery Lane and he disappeared with the train, eastwards.
There is an odd coda to this little reminiscence. I was talking over lunch, a year later, with someone who might or might not have been connected to SIS (I am still in two minds about that). Somehow, Z.’s name came up, and the luncher told me that Z. had a rather bad reputation in Kiev, partly because he paid girls aged about 16 to walk, naked except for high-heeled shoes, on Z.’s back as he lay on his front…
The luncher added that he himself found it distasteful, not least because Z., a person in his 40s, himself had a daughter of the same age.
Whether the luncher had some particular reason to tell me about Z.’s proclivities, I have no idea. Perhaps the Italian white wine had affected his tongue, though somehow I doubt it. Anyway, if there is one thing I am fairly good at, it is keeping a secret, so Z.’s oddness has not seen the light of day (via me) until now, about 24 years later. Anyway, as said, I got the story about the naked 16-y-o girls secondhand, and have no idea whether it is true.
I see now that “Z.” (whose name does not contain a Z) still has those London and Kiev offices, though.
