Until a couple of years ago, a very unprofessional NHS psychiatrist prolific online, one Tim G. Stevens, often insulted me on Twitter/X (not that such has ever bother me; water off a duck’s back). He identified with Israel and the Jew-Zionists, despite not being Jewish (possibly “part-” but even that is uncertain).
Stevens even made up, years ago, a story to the effect that I, satirical singer-songwriter Alison Chabloz, and another, were plotting to attack him and his family (wife and two daughters) at their home in or near Loughton, Essex. A number of utter mugs on Twitter actually believed Stevens, and commiserated online with him!
The Essex NHS trust which employs or employed Stevens provided Alison Chabloz with a formal apology, and I was given a sort-of apology by that NHS trust, and told that Stevens would be subject to disciplinary proceedings (the third party did not want to involve herself in anything by complaining formally).
Since then, Stevens both spoke on ethics at the official convention for psychiatrists a few years ago (you really cannot make up this scheiss!) and was hospitalized with delusions for a while. As someone remarked, the psychiatrist was in need of a psychiatrist…

I am not a football supporter. I should be interested to know the composition of the jury. I dare say that, had this been an American trial (which could never happen anyway, by reason of the U.S. Constitutional free speech protections), there would be a jury selection process enabling the defence lawyers to object to, for example, blacks, women, certain football supporters, people who are fans of the “victims” etc. None of that happens now in England.

Yes. That is a very partial view. Fresh vegetables and fruits, when available, were unrationed. Some vegetables were abundant and actually had to be promoted by ads; potato, carrot etc. Fresh fish was unrationed (though in short supply), and bread was unrationed until after the war. Beer was unrationed, when available.
Naturally, the people who lived on country estates were best-placed to weather rationing. Game birds, and fish, were unrationed, and people living on a country estate would have ready access to eggs and other foodstuffs (and of course could grow fruits and vegetables in kitchen gardens or fields). Such people would also often have extensive wine cellars, so would have been able to drink French (and German!) wines bought before 1940.
I recall that the Cornish country house of which I had a lease (about 22 or so years ago) had quite large wine cellars (unstocked when I was there) which brought to mind the horror film adaptations of the works of Edgar Allan Poe:

Nuts, berries etc would also have been available.
The big shortage would have been butter (olive oil was all but unknown to most British people in the 1930s and 1940s and anyway unavailable). Sugar was another big shortage, of course.

The answer, to that last tweet, is that Labour are still (perhaps) on 22% because 15%-20% of the voters are non-white, and most still vote Labour. Also, there are enough of two white British groups to make weight: 1. public sector admin types, plus low-level academics and teachers; 2. the sort of voters, mainly north of the line between the Bristol Channel and the Wash, who always vote Labour because their grandparents did. That second group is ebbing away fast, though.
Fact is, if only white British, and especially white English, people were to be polled, Labour would be on about 5%, certainly no more than 10%.

I have blogged in the past about how very many people (including, weirdly, many who were at least in their teens then, and so actually of an age to remember) say, and even perhaps believe, that the 1970s in the UK were some kind of dark age in which the electricity was off most of the time, in which bodies were left unburied by reason of industrial action, in which trains and buses rarely ran, in which rubbish piled up in the towns and cities, in which there was a โthree day weekโ when offices and factories were closed for four days each week, and in which life was generally miserable (for example, food was terrible, they say).
The above-noted fabled dystopia was, we are told, the result of overreaching trade union power and Labour misgovernment.
In other words, out of the 10 years, Labour was in power for about 6 years. Labour government was in place from the early 1960s until mid-1970, then from early 1974 until mid-1979.
Compare to 2024: 81.8% of seats based on 57.4% of the popular vote.
In 1966, the winning party (Labour) got 48% of the popular vote, the losing Conservatives 41.9%.
In 2024, Labour got 33.7%, and the losing Conservatives only 23.7%.
The electoral system has become not just unfair but also illogical and ridiculous. It no longer reflects reality.
Reverting to the general situation in the 1970s, the much-talked-about โThree Day Weekโ only affected, directly, commercial operations (which were banned from using electricity on the other four days). The Three Day Week only lasted for two months. Out of 10 years (120 months).
I saw the Three Day Week firsthand. I was working, aged just 18, as supposed assistant manager in a very small commercial intelligence outfit based in the Strand (London). The office only had 5 people including me, though we did have a network of mostly ad-hoc agents all over the southern and eastern parts of England (anywhere south or southwest of The Wash). Much of the work was in Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Hampshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Essex. The agents were often retired Army officers who, on being contacted, would โeagerlyโ say something such as โright-oh, old boy. Iโll fire up the Rover and get onto it.โ

Britain still had a functioning Army, Navy, Air Force (etc), and a police force that mainly did its expected job and was not usually the sort of poundshop Stasi we now see, snooping on or โmonitoringโ the expression of views and opinions.
Incidentally, the food was OK back then on the whole. Slightly less cosmopolitan, yes, but in the South of England at least, foreign foods such as hummus, taramasalata, olives, Indian, Chinese, etc were ubiquitous. In fact, some food was better and more available back then.
What I find worrying is not only that people who were not there, or were small children, are convinced that England in 1970-1979 was a dark and gloomy place; more that people who were there seem to have substituted, for what actually happened, a kind of folk-tale.
As for Jewish-lobby puppet Robert Largan, who was parachuted into the constituency of High Peak (Derbyshire) and served as MP from GE 2019 to GE 2024, he was only born in 1987.

His tough talk re. the migration invasion may stem the electoral rot (or rout) to some extent, but I doubt whether, even then, the poll-share would get above about 25%. That might reduce the Reform cadre of MPs to below the level of an overall majority, but would still leave Reform as largest party by far (and would also cut Labour back to below 100 MPs). The end result, on those premises, would be a Reform minority government or a Reform-led Ref/Con coalition.
Addendum: I doubt that installing Jeremy Hunt as Con leader would change the ultimate result much, though it might. He is still an MP, still ambitious at age 58 (59 in November), English, and I think might seize his chance to become Leader of the Opposition and, potentially, PM. We shall soon know. Well, I cannot speak as to any of those details, but right from the start I felt that there was something not quite right about Paul Mason. I have blogged about him previously, two or three years ago.
First of all, despite having trained as a musician, and worked as such, and also having lectured in musical studies at Loughborough (Leicestershire), Mason (a quarter-Jew, one of his grandparents having immigrated from Lithuania), never having had any formal financial or economics training, suddenly appears as a freelance financial journalist in London in 1991 at age 31 (after a “missing” three years). Then, from 2001, he is seen on shows such as Newsnight (as Business Editor), and his political persona at that time is a kind of semi-Marxist and semi-anarcho-syndicalist mixture, hard to pin down.
You can see from that piece how, over the years, Mason has veered from so-called “left-wing Communism” and Trotskyism to (he himself claims) “social democracy” and both Marxism and post-Marxism. At one point, he was writing in support of Jeremy Corbyn. More recently, Mason declared himself a supporter of Keir Starmer.
You see the point. Politically, for all his worn-on-the sleeve pseudo-radicalism, Mason is the political grey man, superficially at home here, there, and everywhere. He sort-of fits in almost anywhere in the (generally anti-British type of) political milieu, almost like a secret agent of some sort…
